whether_o it_o be_v of_o nature_n or_o of_o grace_n or_o whether_o it_o be_v a_o work_n of_o the_o law_n or_o of_o the_o gospel_n the_o reason_n be_v if_o man_n be_v justify_v in_o any_o sort_n by_o work_n justification_n can_v not_o be_v by_o grace_n according_a as_o say_v the_o apostle_n rom._n 11._o 6._o if_o it_o be_v of_o grace_n it_o be_v no_o more_o of_o work_n else_o be_v grace_n no_o more_o grace_n and_o if_o it_o be_v of_o work_n it_o be_v no_o more_o grace_n else_o be_v work_v no_o more_o work_n thus_o none_o of_o these_o three_o foremost_a opinion_n can_v stand_v except_o we_o will_v destroy_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n and_o abolish_v it_o altogether_o from_o the_o work_n of_o justification_n for_o grace_n and_o work_n even_o though_o they_o be_v of_o grace_n can_v never_o stand_v together_o in_o the_o work_n of_o our_o justification_n which_o also_o manifest_v the_o gross_a impiety_n of_o all_o these_o three_o opinion_n in_o place_v faith_n either_o in_o whole_a or_o expound_v that_o sentence_n metonymical_o by_o faith_n understanding_n christ_n crucify_v apprehend_v by_o faith_n and_o so_o do_v esteem_v that_o faith_n relative_o or_o instrumental_o take_v and_o not_o proper_o be_v impute_v unto_o we_o for_o righteousness_n and_o this_o opinion_n agree_v with_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o matter_n itself_o but_o there_o be_v no_o necessity_n why_o faith_n in_o that_o place_n shall_v be_v take_v in_o a_o borrow_a sense_n if_o the_o right_a mind_n and_o meaning_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n in_o this_o phrase_n be_v grave_o and_o mature_o consider_v so_o that_o if_o they_o who_o take_v it_o proper_o do_v not_o err_v either_o in_o the_o signification_n of_o it_o or_o in_o the_o true_a sense_n of_o the_o imputation_n of_o it_o their_o opinion_n may_v well_o be_v allow_v for_o faith_n in_o this_o sentence_n be_v in_o my_o opinion_n to_o be_v take_v proper_o in_o that_o sense_n whereby_o in_o itself_o it_o be_v distinguish_v both_o from_o the_o word_n whereby_o it_o be_v beget_v and_o from_o the_o object_n of_o it_o in_o the_o word_n which_o be_v christ_n as_o also_o from_o the_o naked_a knowledge_n of_o the_o word_n and_o christ_n therein_o reveyl_v how_o soever_o it_o do_v comprehend_v knowledge_n for_o search_v out_o therefore_o the_o true_a signification_n of_o the_o word_n faith_n in_o this_o sentence_n we_o will_v first_o set_v faith_n be_v a_o action_n of_o the_o heart_n consist_v in_o judgement_n but_o they_o differ_v in_o three_o sort_n the_o first_o sort_n make_v this_o judgement_n of_o the_o heart_n in_o believe_v to_o be_v nothing_o but_o a_o naked_a opinion_n which_o be_v a_o doubtful_a inclination_n of_o a_o uncertain_a mind_n to_o the_o best_a part_n of_o the_o contradiction_n with_o fear_n of_o the_o contrary_a part_n be_v destitute_a of_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o true_a cause_n as_o for_o example_n in_o this_o contradiction_n christ_n death_n shall_v save_v us._n and_o christ_n death_n shall_v not_o save_v we_o they_o have_v a_o opinion_n of_o the_o best_a that_o be_v that_o christ_n death_n shall_v save_v they_o but_o no_o certain_a knowledge_n because_o they_o be_v ignorant_a of_o the_o cause_n of_o judgement_n betwixt_o opinion_n and_o knowledge_n which_o participate_v of_o both_o and_o yet_o be_v neither_o of_o they_o for_o they_o will_v not_o have_v it_o a_o doubtful_a inclination_n of_o the_o mind_n unto_o the_o best_a part_n with_o fear_n of_o the_o worst_a upon_o ignorance_n of_o the_o cause_n neither_o will_v they_o have_v it_o a_o certain_a inclination_n of_o the_o mind_n to_o the_o best_a without_o all_o fear_n of_o the_o worst_a upon_o certain_a knowledge_n of_o the_o cause_n and_o necessary_a mean_n but_o will_v have_v it_o middle_a conceit_n of_o the_o mind_n neither_o altogether_o contingent_a neither_o altogether_o necessary_a and_o now_o in_o these_o day_n there_o be_v a_o sort_n of_o man_n which_o agree_v with_o this_o second_o sort_n in_o substance_n promise_v to_o the_o child_n of_o god_n &_o all_o true_a rejoice_v and_o gloriation_n in_o god_n and_o in_o this_o work_n of_o faith_n consist_v all_o the_o strength_n whereby_o we_o be_v make_v able_a to_o stand_v against_o all_o power_n of_o darkness_n and_o sin_n and_o be_v uphold_v to_o the_o end_n in_o the_o scripture_n of_o god_n we_o find_v that_o all_o blessing_n that_o come_v from_o give_v we_o or_o impute_v unto_o we_o to_o justify_v we_o both_o in_o the_o give_n &_o in_o the_o impute_v be_v of_o god_n free_a grace_n the_o second_o use_n of_o the_o knowledge_n hereof_o be_v to_o preserve_v we_o from_o their_o error_n who_o take_v the_o name_n of_o grace_n in_o our_o justification_n for_o the_o gift_n of_o grace_n inherent_a in_o we_o be_v it_o faith_n or_o sanctification_n or_o the_o fruit_n of_o our_o righteousness_n and_o second_o from_o their_o error_n who_o take_v the_o name_n of_o grace_n for_o a_o gracious_a acceptation_n of_o our_o imperfect_a faith_n whereas_o grace_n in_o justification_n be_v relative_a to_o the_o give_v &_o impute_v of_o faith_n not_o to_o the_o accept_n of_o it_o for_o in_o respect_n of_o faith_n give_v by_o grace_n and_o impute_v by_o grace_n we_o be_v say_v to_o be_v justify_v by_o grace_n &_o not_o in_o respect_n of_o god_n accept_v of_o it_o at_o our_o hand_n by_o grace_n and_o thus_o much_o concern_v the_o form_n of_o our_o justification_n chapter_n xxxiii_o it_o ollow_v that_o we_o now_o speak_v of_o the_o object_n of_o justification_n that_o be_v the_o man_n who_o the_o lord_n do_v justify_v who_o be_v two_o manner_n of_o way_n to_o be_v consider_v first_o as_o he_o be_v in_o himself_o by_o nature_n second_o what_o he_o be_v by_o grace_n before_o he_o be_v justify_v as_o concern_v himself_o we_o have_v two_o place_n of_o scripture_n which_o do_v manifest_o instruct_v we_o what_o man_n be_v in_o himself_o when_o god_n justify_v he_o the_o first_o be_v rom._n 4._o 5._o where_o god_n be_v say_v to_o justify_v the_o ungodly_a the_o other_o rom._n 5._o 10._o where_o god_n be_v say_v to_o have_v justify_v we_o while_o we_o be_v enemy_n and_o this_o show_v the_o vanity_n of_o the_o papist_n who_o will_v have_v a_o man_n formalie_n just_a before_o he_o be_v justify_v touch_v that_o which_o he_o be_v by_o grace_n it_o be_v in_o many_o part_n of_o the_o scripture_n evident_o declare_v that_o he_o must_v believe_v before_o he_o be_v justify_v that_o be_v must_v have_v faith_n wrought_v in_o his_o heart_n in_o that_o sort_n that_o he_o may_v be_v justify_v for_o like_a as_o act_n 14._o it_o be_v say_v that_o paul_n perceive_v that_o the_o cripple_n man_n have_v faith_n to_o be_v make_v whole_a he_o do_v heal_v he_o even_o so_o the_o lord_n first_o give_v we_o faith_n to_o be_v make_v just_a and_o then_o justify_v us._n for_o we_o be_v to_o consider_v that_o although_o faith_n be_v the_o instrument_n of_o god_n power_n to_o make_v we_o able_a to_o apprehend_v christ_n and_o all_o his_o blessing_n in_o he_o yet_o in_o the_o work_n of_o justification_n it_o be_v particular_o to_o be_v restrain_v both_o as_o it_o be_v wrought_v by_o god_n in_o our_o heart_n and_o as_o our_o heart_n work_v by_o it_o unto_o the_o particular_a benefit_n of_o righteousness_n in_o christ_n like_v as_o in_o all_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o benefit_n faith_n be_v always_o to_o be_v particular_o restrain_v to_o every_o one_o of_o they_o in_o the_o particular_a apprehension_n of_o they_o moreover_o we_o see_v the_o truth_n of_o this_o same_o in_o the_o order_n set_v down_o by_o the_o apostle_n rom._n 8._o when_o he_o say_v who_o he_o have_v call_v they_o he_o also_o have_v justify_v whereby_o it_o be_v evident_a that_o god_n justify_v not_o a_o man_n until_o first_o he_o have_v obtain_v that_o degree_n of_o grace_n which_o god_n bestow_v upon_o a_o man_n when_o he_o call_v he_o of_o which_o it_o follow_v that_o he_o must_v have_v christ_n reveyl_v unto_o he_o &_o he_o must_v likewise_o be_v come_v to_o christ_n &_o must_v have_v embrace_v he_o by_o faith_n and_o that_o not_o only_o as_o the_o son_n of_o god_n for_o in_o that_o point_n of_o faith_n consist_v his_o
