never_o deny_v a_o saint_n prayer_n in_o wrath_n or_o hear_v a_o sinner_n prayer_n in_o mercy_n the_o proposition_n lay_v down_o be_v a_o eternal_a truth_n god_n hear_v not_o sinner_n that_o be_v so_o you_o now_o have_v you_o shall_v not_o have_v have_v so_o much_o sin_n and_o guilt_n upon_o you_o as_o now_o you_o have_v by_o shut_v your_o eye_n against_o the_o light_n but_o now_o you_o say_v we_o see_v that_o be_v be_v puff_v up_o with_o the_o knowledge_n which_o you_o have_v as_o if_o you_o be_v the_o only_a man_n that_o see_v this_o proud_a conceit_n of_o you_o render_v your_o condition_n they_o pride_n be_v a_o great_a hindrance_n of_o knowledge_n than_o ignorance_n because_o the_o proud_a man_n think_v he_o want_v no_o knowledge_n 2._o that_o the_o most_o exalt_a knowledge_n be_v insufficient_a to_o salvation_n without_o a_o suitable_a and_o correspondent_a practice_n the_o pharisee_n have_v the_o key_n of_o knowledge_n at_o their_o girdle_n yet_o our_o saviour_n tell_v they_o of_o a_o double_a damnation_n lord_n how_o sad_a be_v it_o so_o to_o know_v christ_n in_o this_o world_n as_o that_o he_o will_v be_v ashamed_a to_o know_v we_o in_o another_o world_n chap._n
the_o truth_n and_o desire_v to_o obey_v it_o the_o spirit_n give_v you_o a_o affective_a operative_a and_o experimental_a knowledge_n not_o bare_o to_o know_v these_o thing_n but_o to_o believe_v they_o and_o feel_v the_o power_n of_o they_o in_o and_z upon_o your_o own_o heart_n but_o the_o generality_n of_o hearer_n do_v satisfy_v and_o content_v themselves_o with_o a_o bare_a notional_a knowledge_n of_o what_o they_o hear_v a_o parable_n therefore_o be_v well_o enough_o for_o they_o learn_v 1._o that_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v mystery_n 2._o that_o it_o be_v a_o matchless_a and_o unvaluable_a privilege_n practical_o and_o save_o to_o understand_v and_o know_v gospel-mystery_n 3._o that_o this_o privilege_n all_o be_v not_o sharer_n in_o nor_o partaker_n of_o but_o only_o those_o to_o who_o it_o be_v give_v unto_o you_o it_o be_v give_v to_o know_v the_o mystery_n of_o the_o kingdom_n but_o to_o they_o it_o be_v not_o give_v 12_o for_o whosoever_o have_v reference_n and_o relation_n to_o the_o pharisee_n who_o attend_v upon_o christ_n ministry_n not_o with_o a_o honest_a simplicity_n of_o mind_n to_o be_v instruct_v by_o it_o but_o to_o carp_v and_o cavil_v at_o it_o our_o saviour_n tell_v they_o he_o have_v former_o speak_v thing_n very_o plain_o and_o clear_o to_o they_o and_o also_o wrought_v miracle_n before_o they_o to_o convince_v they_o of_o the_o divinity_n of_o his_o person_n and_o of_o the_o verity_n of_o his_o doctrine_n but_o they_o will_v not_o believe_v either_o his_o person_n or_o his_o doctrine_n to_o be_v from_o god_n and_o therefore_o he_o will_v now_o speak_v to_o they_o in_o dark_a parable_n that_o they_o may_v be_v judicial_o blind_v they_o shut_v their_o eye_n against_o the_o clear_a light_n and_o say_v they_o be_v not_o cover_v with_o the_o harrow_n of_o meditation_n other_o be_v like_o stony-ground_n in_o which_o the_o word_n have_v no_o root_n no_o root_n in_o their_o understanding_n memory_n conscience_n will_n or_o affection_n but_o they_o be_v offend_v either_o at_o the_o depth_n and_o profoundness_n of_o the_o word_n or_o at_o the_o sanctity_n and_o strictness_n of_o it_o or_o at_o the_o plainess_n and_o simplicity_n of_o it_o again_o some_o hearer_n our_o lord_n compare_v to_o thorny-ground_n thorn_n be_v covetous_a desire_n which_o choke_v the_o good_a seed_n shadow_v the_o blade_n when_o spring_v up_o keep_v off_o the_o influence_n of_o the_o sun_n and_o draw_v away_o the_o fatness_n of_o the_o soil_n from_o the_o seed_n all_o these_o effect_n have_v thorn_n in_o and_o among_o the_o seed_n and_o the_o like_a effect_n have_v worldly_a affection_n and_o covetous_a desire_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n render_v the_o word_n unfruitful_a and_o unprofitable_a but_o the_o good_a christian_n hear_v the_o word_n attentive_o keep_v it_o retentive_o believe_v it_o steadfast_o apply_v it_o particular_o practise_v it_o universal_o and_o bring_v forth_o fruit_n with_o patience_n and_o perseverance_n fruit_n that_o will_v redound_v to_o his_o account_n in_o the_o great_a day_n of_o account_n learn_v 1._o that_o no_o hearer_n be_v in_o christ_n account_n good_a hearer_n of_o the_o word_n but_o such_o as_o bring_v forth_o the_o fruit_n of_o a_o holy_a humble_a and_o peaceable_a conversation_n 2._o that_o a_o person_n may_v be_v a_o good_a hearer_n of_o the_o word_n if_o he_o bring_v forth_o the_o best_a fruit_n he_o can_v though_o it_o be_v not_o in_o so_o great_a a_o proportion_n as_o other_o do_v as_o some_o ground_n bring_v forth_o thirty_o some_o sixty_o and_o some_o a_o hundred-fold_n in_o like_a manner_n do_v all_o the_o sincere_a hearer_n of_o the_o word_n they_o all_o

and_o elder_n and_o all_o the_o council_n seek_v false_a witness_n against_o jesus_n to_o put_v he_o to_o death_n abominable_a wickedness_n innocency_n itself_o can_v protect_v from_o slander_n and_o transfiguration_n be_v a_o type_n and_o shadow_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o heaven_n christ_n vouchsafe_v therefore_o the_o earnest_a and_o first-fruit_n of_o that_o glory_n only_o to_o saint_n upon_o bring_v forth_o fruit_n persevere_o learn_v hence_o 1._o that_o no_o hearer_n be_v in_o christ_n account_n good_a hearer_n of_o the_o word_n but_o such_o as_o bring_v forth_o fruit_n answerable_o to_o their_o hear_v 2._o that_o a_o person_n may_v be_v a_o good_a hearer_n of_o the_o word_n in_o christ_n account_n if_o he_o bring_v forth_o the_o best_a fruit_n he_o can_v though_o not_o in_o so_o lord_n shut_v up_o this_o parable_n of_o the_o sour_a and_o the_o seed_n with_o a_o cautionary_a direction_n to_o all_o his_o auditor_n to_o take_v heed_n how_o they_o hear_v the_o word_n take_v namely_o to_o teach_v and_o to_o bring_v to_o remembrance_n what_o christ_n have_v teach_v he_o shall_v teach_v you_o all_o thing_n as_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n be_v the_o great_a comforter_n so_o he_o be_v the_o special_a teacher_n of_o his_o child_n he_o teach_v condescend_o stoop_v to_o the_o mean_a capacity_n he_o teach_v efficacious_o incline_v the_o heart_n to_o receive_v instruction_n as_o well_o as_o open_v the_o ear_n to_o hear_v it_o he_o teach_v plain_o and_o clear_o uner_o and_o infallible_o he_o be_v truth_n itself_o and_o therefore_o his_o teach_n be_v most_o true_a and_o as_o the_o holy_a spirit_n be_v the_o saint_n teacher_n so_o be_v he_o also_o their_o remembrancer_n he_o shall_v bring_v all_o thing_n to_o your_o remembrance_n that_o be_v all_o truth_n needful_a pilate_n therefore_o say_v unto_o he_o be_v thou_o a_o king_n then_o jesus_n answer_v thou_o say_v that_o i_o be_o a_o king_n to_o this_o end_n be_v i_o bear_v and_o for_o this_o cause_n come_v i_o
