life_n on_o he_o that_o be_v the_o fountain_n of_o life_n thus_o we_o have_v here_o this_o fear_n of_o god_n as_o often_o elsewhere_o set_v out_o as_o the_o very_a substance_n of_o holiness_n and_o evidence_n of_o happiness_n and_o that_o we_o may_v know_v there_o be_v nothing_o either_o base_a or_o grievous_a in_o this_o fear_n we_o have_v join_v with_o it_o delight_n and_o trust_v delight_v great_o in_o his_o commandment_n which_o be_v that_o badge_n of_o love_n to_o he_o to_o observe_v they_o and_o that_o with_o delight_n and_o with_o great_a exceed_a delight_n so_o then_o the_o fear_n be_v not_o that_o which_o love_n cast_v out_o but_o that_o which_o love_n bring_v in_o this_o fear_n follow_v and_o flow_v from_o love_n a_o fear_n to_o offend_v whereof_o nothing_o so_o tender_a as_o love_n and_o that_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o greatness_n of_o god_n have_v in_o it_o withal_o a_o humble_a reverence_n there_o be_v in_o all_o love_n a_o kind_n of_o reverence_n a_o cautious_a and_o all_o necessary_a truth_n once_o simple_o set_v down_o but_o a_o great_a variety_n of_o doctrine_n for_o our_o more_o abundant_a instruction_n and_o consolation_n among_o the_o rest_n this_o way_n of_o similitude_n have_v a_o notable_a commixture_n of_o profit_n and_o delight_n parable_n not_o unfold_v and_o understand_v be_v a_o veil_n as_o here_o to_o the_o multitude_n and_o in_o that_o be_v a_o great_a judgement_n as_o isa._n 6._o 9_o cite_v here_o but_o when_o clear_v and_o make_v transparent_a than_o they_o be_v a_o glass_n to_o behold_v divine_a thing_n in_o more_o commodious_o and_o call_v the_o word_n of_o the_o kingdom_n seed_n a_o immortal_a seed_n as_o st._n peter_n call_v it_o spring_v up_o to_o no_o less_o than_o a_o eternal_a life_n this_o teach_v we_o one_a high_o to_o turn_n and_o save_v we_o as_o we_o common_o fancy_v the_o temple_n of_o the_o lord_n the_o temple_n of_o the_o lord_n multitude_n under_o the_o continual_a sound_n of_o the_o word_n yet_o remain_v lifeless_a and_o fruitless_a and_o die_v in_o their_o sin_n therefore_o we_o must_v inquire_v and_o examine_v strict_o what_o become_v of_o it_o how_o it_o work_v what_o it_o bring_v forth_o and_o for_o this_o very_a end_n this_o parable_n declare_v so_o many_o aâ—e_n fruitless_a we_o need_v not_o press_v they_o they_o be_v three_o to_o one_o here_o yea_o that_o be_v too_o narrow_a the_o odds_o be_v far_o great_a for_o these_o be_v but_o the_o kind_n of_o unfruitful_a ground_n and_o under_o each_o of_o these_o huge_a multitude_n of_o individual_n so_o that_o there_o may_v be_v a_o hundred_o to_o one_o and_o it_o be_v to_o be_v fear_v in_o many_o congregation_n it_o be_v more_o than_o so_o whence_o be_v then_o the_o difference_n not_o from_o the_o seed_n that_o be_v the_o same_o to_o all_o not_o from_o the_o sour_a neither_o for_o though_o these_o be_v divers_a and_o of_o different_a ability_n yet_o it_o hang_v little_a or_o nothing_o on_o that_o indeed_o he_o be_v the_o fit_a to_o preach_v that_o be_v himself_o most_o like_o his_o message_n and_o come_v forth_o not_o only_o with_o a_o handful_n of_o this_o seed_n in_o his_o hand_n but_o with_o store_n of_o it_o in_o his_o heart_n the_o word_n dwell_v rich_o in_o he_o yet_o howsoever_o the_o seed_n he_o sow_v be_v this_o word_n of_o life_n depend_v not_o on_o his_o qualification_n in_o any_o kind_n either_o of_o people_z mistake_v this_o much_o and_o it_o be_v a_o carnal_a conceit_n to_o hang_v on_o the_o advantage_n of_o the_o minister_n or_o to_o eye_n that_o much_o the_o sure_a way_n be_v to_o look_v up_o to_o god_n and_o to_o look_v into_o thy_o own_o heart_n a_o unchanged_a unsoftned_a heart_n as_o a_o evil_a soil_n disappoint_v the_o fruit._n what_o though_o sow_v by_o a_o weak_a hand_n yea_o possible_o a_o foul_a one_o yet_o if_o receive_v in_o a_o clean_a and_o honest_a heart_n it_o will_v fructify_v much_o there_o be_v in_o the_o world_n a_o needless_a and_o prejudicial_a difference_v esau_n which_o some_o critic_n draw_v from_o a_o word_n signify_v the_o threshold_n the_o outer_a step_n that_o every_o foul_a foot_n tread_v on_o these_o retain_v nothing_o there_o be_v no_o hazard_n of_o that_o and_o yet_o the_o enemy_n of_o soul_n to_o make_v all_o sure_a lest_o peradventure_o some_o word_n may_v take_v root_n unaware_o some_o grain_n of_o this_o seed_n he_o be_v busy_a to_o pick_v it_o away_o to_o take_v they_o off_o from_o all_o reflection_n all_o serious_a thought_n or_o the_o remembrance_n of_o any_o thing_n speak_v to_o they_o and_o if_o any_o common_a word_n be_v remember_v yet_o it_o do_v no_o good_a for_o that_o be_v tread_v down_o as_o the_o rest_n though_o the_o most_o be_v pick_v up_o because_o it_o lie_v on_o the_o road._n so_o express_v by_o st._n mark_n 4._o 4._o the_o second_o be_v stony_a ground_n hard_a heart_n not_o soften_v and_o make_v penetrable_a to_o receive_v in_o deep_o this_o engraft_a word_n with_o meekness_n with_o humble_a pleasant_a one_o such_o love_n as_o the_o son_n of_o god_n to_o die_v for_o sinner_n such_o a_o rich_a purchase_n make_v as_o a_o kingdom_n the_o word_n of_o the_o kingdom_n such_o glory_n and_o sweetness_n therefore_o the_o description_n of_o the_o new_a jerusalem_n apoc._n 21._o suppose_v it_o be_v but_o a_o dream_n or_o one_o of_o the_o vision_n of_o the_o night_n yet_o it_o be_v passing_a fine_a it_o must_v needs_o please_v a_o mind_n that_o heed_v what_o be_v say_v of_o it_o there_o be_v a_o natural_a delight_n in_o spiritual_a thing_n and_o thus_o the_o word_n of_o the_o prophet_n as_o the_o lord_n tell_v he_o be_v as_o a_o minstrel_n voice_n a_o fine_a song_n so_o long_o as_o it_o last_v but_o die_v out_o in_o the_o air_n it_o may_v be_v the_o relish_n and_o air_n of_o it_o will_v remain_v a_o while_n in_o the_o imagination_n but_o not_o long_o even_o that_o wear_v out_o and_o be_v forget_v so_o here_o it_o be_v hear_v with_o joy_n and_o some_o be_v spring_v up_o present_o they_o commend_v it_o and_o it_o may_v be_v repeat_v some_o passage_n yea_o possible_o desire_v to_o be_v like_o it_o to_o have_v such_o and_o such_o grace_n as_o be_v recommend_v and_o upon_o that_o think_v they_o have_v they_o be_v present_o good_a christian_n in_o their_o own_o conceit_n and_o to_o appearance_n some_o change_n be_v wrought_v and_o it_o appear_v to_o be_v all_o that_o it_o be_v but_o it_o be_v not_o deep_a enough_o they_o talk_v possible_o too_o much_o more_o than_o those_o who_o heart_n receive_v it_o more_o deep_o there_o it_o lie_v hide_v long_o and_o little_o be_v hear_v of_o it_o other_o may_v think_v it_o be_v lose_v and_o possible_o themselves_o do_v not_o perceive_v that_o it_o be_v there_o they_o be_v exercise_v and_o humble_v at_o it_o and_o of_o affection_n suck_v the_o sap_n of_o the_o soul_n our_o other_o seed_n and_o harvest_n our_o corn_n and_o hay_n our_o shop_n and_o ship_n our_o trade_n and_o bargain_n our_o suit_n and_o pretension_n for_o place_n and_o employment_n of_o gain_n or_o credit_n husband_n and_o wife_n and_o child_n and_o house_n and_o train_z our_o feast_n and_o entertainment_n and_o other_o pleasure_n of_o sense_n our_o civility_n and_o compliment_n and_o a_o world_n of_o those_o in_o all_o the_o world_n be_v these_o thorn_n and_o they_o overspread_v all_o the_o lust_n of_o the_o eye_n the_o lust_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o the_o pride_n of_o life_n and_o for_o how_o long_o be_v all_o the_o advantage_n and_o and_o delight_n of_o these_o alas_o that_o so_o poor_a thing_n shall_v prejudice_v we_o of_o the_o rich_a and_o bless_a increase_n of_o this_o divine_a seed_n the_o last_o be_v good_a ground_n a_o good_a and_o honest_a heart_n not_o much_o fineness_n here_o not_o many_o question_n and_o
