bring_v a_o soul_n to_o the_o sight_n and_o sorrow_n for_o sin_n the_o use_n be_v three_o the_o three_o be_v the_o main_a we_o will_v press_v on_o unto_o it_o if_o it_o be_v so_o that_o meditation_n be_v thus_o powerful_a and_o profitable_a both_o for_o contrition_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o to_o bring_v in_o consolation_n to_o the_o heart_n then_o what_o shall_v we_o think_v of_o those_o man_n that_o be_v unwilling_a to_o practise_v this_o duty_n nay_o what_o shall_v we_o think_v of_o that_o untowardness_n of_o heart_n which_o be_v in_o we_o against_o the_o command_n of_o this_o duty_n it_o be_v a_o word_n of_o reproof_n against_o this_o practice_n and_o it_o fall_v marvellous_a heavy_a upon_o we_o all_o more_o or_o less_o in_o this_o kind_n for_o we_o be_v marvellous_a guilty_a in_o this_o kind_n that_o we_o be_v tardy_a in_o this_o duty_n a_o man_n have_v as_o good_a bring_v a_o bear_n to_o the_o stake_n as_o a_o carnal_a heart_n to_o the_o consideration_n of_o his_o own_o way_n much_o more_o loath_a be_v he_o to_o ponder_v serious_o and_o meditate_v continual_o upon_o his_o sin_n no_o man_n be_v so_o far_o from_o muse_v of_o their_o sin_n that_o they_o disdain_v this_o practice_n and_o scoff_n at_o it_o what_o say_v they_o if_o all_o be_v of_o your_o mind_n what_o shall_v become_v of_o we_o shall_v we_o always_o be_v pore_v on_o our_o corruption_n so_o we_o may_v hap_v to_o run_v mad_a if_o we_o be_v of_o your_o opinion_n thus_o we_o slight_a and_o put_v it_o off_o and_o trample_v on_o this_o duty_n which_o be_v so_o profitable_a the_o poor_a will_v not_o meditate_v on_o his_o sin_n he_o have_v no_o time_n the_o rich_a they_o need_v it_o not_o the_o wicked_a dare_v not_o and_o so_o no_o man_n will_v in_o this_o case_n what_o shall_v a_o man_n set_v his_o soul_n on_o a_o continual_a rack_n say_v they_o shall_v a_o man_n drive_v himself_o to_o a_o desperate_a stand_n and_o trouble_v himself_o unprofitable_o can_v man_n keep_v themselves_o when_o they_o be_v well_o this_o be_v the_o course_n and_o frame_v of_o the_o world_n and_o we_o may_v complain_v of_o this_o careless_a and_o heedless_a age_n as_o jeremiah_n do_v of_o his_o time_n jer._n 8.6_o no_o man_n repent_v he_o of_o his_o wickedness_n say_v what_o have_v i_o do_v there_o be_v no_o question_v nor_o search_a no_o muse_n no_o man_n say_v what_o have_v i_o do_v no_o man_n say_v the_o prophet_n jeremiah_n say_v 8.12_o be_v they_o ashamed_a when_o they_o have_v commit_v abomination_n nay_o they_o be_v not_o at_o all_o ashamed_a neither_o can_v they_o blush_v he_o add_v a_o reason_n in_o the_o eleven_o verse_n they_o can_v not_o be_v ashamed_a why_o because_o they_o cry_v peace_n peace_n let_v the_o minister_n speak_v what_o he_o can_v and_o denounce_v what_o judgement_n and_o stubbornness_n be_v such_o vile_a sin_n in_o other_o than_o they_o be_v so_o in_o i_o and_o as_o there_o must_v be_v a_o sight_n of_o our_o personal_a particular_a sin_n so_o second_o the_o soul_n must_v be_v set_v down_o with_o the_o audience_n of_o truth_n and_o the_o conscience_n of_o a_o sinner_n shall_v be_v so_o convict_v as_o to_o yield_v and_o give_v way_n to_o that_o which_o be_v know_v as_o not_o seek_v any_o shift_n or_o way_n to_o oppose_v that_o truth_n which_o be_v reveal_v his_o particular_a apprehension_n of_o sin_n be_v like_o the_o indictment_n of_o a_o sinner_n before_o god_n and_o his_o conviction_n be_v that_o which_o bring_v the_o soul_n to_o such_o a_o pass_n that_o the_o heart_n will_v not_o nay_o it_o dare_v not_o nay_o which_o be_v more_o it_o can_v it_o labour_n to_o defeat_v and_o put_v by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o word_n that_o it_o may_v not_o come_v home_o to_o the_o heart_n as_o a_o man_n in_o battle_n array_n labour_v to_o put_v by_o the_o blow_n that_o it_o may_v not_o hit_v his_o body_n so_o it_o be_v with_o a_o corrupt_a heart_n when_o the_o word_n come_v home_o to_o the_o soul_n as_o it_o do_v sometime_o into_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o drunkard_n or_o a_o adulterer_n or_o a_o murderer_n and_o the_o word_n of_o god_n seem_v to_o stab_v the_o heart_n they_o put_v by_o the_o word_n of_o god_n by_o carnal_a shift_n and_o so_o break_v the_o power_n of_o it_o that_o it_o can_v have_v its_o full_a blow_n upon_o the_o soul_n and_o so_o the_o word_n take_v no_o place_n to_o any_o purpose_n in_o they_o now_o this_o kind_n of_o knowledge_n take_v away_o all_o shift_n that_o the_o soul_n have_v nothing_o to_o say_v for_o itself_o and_o pluck_v away_o all_o defence_n that_o the_o edge_n of_o the_o word_n can_v be_v blunt_v but_o that_o it_o will_v fall_v flat_a on_o the_o heart_n this_o be_v that_o i_o will_v put_v to_o your_o consideration_n punctual_o when_o there_o be_v that_o wisdom_n and_o knowledge_n reveal_v to_o the_o soul_n so_o powerful_o that_o it_o prevail_v with_o the_o heart_n and_o it_o give_v way_n thereto_o so_o that_o all_o the_o reply_n and_o plea_n of_o the_o soul_n be_v take_v away_o and_o the_o soul_n fall_v under_o the_o stroke_n of_o the_o word_n not_o quarrel_v but_o yield_v itself_o that_o the_o word_n may_v work_v upon_o it_o and_o withal_o there_o be_v a_o restless_a amazement_n put_v sinner_n and_o the_o lord_n hate_v i_o too_o say_v the_o soul_n for_o i_o be_o guilty_a of_o that_o sin_n many_o time_n when_o a_o sinner_n come_v into_o the_o congregation_n and_o attend_v unto_o the_o ordinary_a mean_n of_o salvation_n if_o now_o the_o lord_n be_v please_v to_o work_v mighty_o at_o last_o the_o mind_n be_v enlighten_v and_o the_o minister_n meet_v with_o his_o corruption_n as_o though_o he_o be_v in_o his_o bosom_n and_o he_o answer_v all_o his_o cavil_v and_o take_v away_o all_o his_o objection_n with_o that_o the_o soul_n begin_v to_o be_v amaze_v to_o think_v that_o god_n shall_v meet_v with_o he_o in_o this_o manner_n and_o say_v if_o this_o be_v so_o as_o it_o be_v for_o aught_o i_o know_v and_o if_o all_o be_v true_a that_o the_o minister_n say_v than_o the_o lord_n be_v merciful_a unto_o my_o soul_n i_o be_o the_o most_o miserable_a sinner_n that_o ever_o be_v bear_v give_v i_o leave_v to_o open_v a_o passage_n or_o two_o this_o way_n suppose_v there_o not_o go_v to_o christ_n so_o then_o if_o you_o have_v worthiness_n this_o will_v encourage_v you_o for_o to_o go_v why_o then_o you_o think_v christ_n be_v not_o able_a alone_o to_o help_v you_o but_o you_o will_v have_v your_o worthiness_n help_n christ_n to_o save_v you_o and_o so_o you_o will_v join_v with_o the_o lord_n jesus_n in_o this_o great_a price_n of_o salvation_n and_o if_o he_o have_v not_o such_o a_o great_a debt_n to_o pay_v he_o will_v be_v content_a to_o come_v to_o he_o but_o the_o truth_n be_v the_o debt_n be_v so_o great_a that_o he_o will_v not_o come_v to_o he_o nor_o trouble_v he_o now_o one_o of_o these_o two_o must_v needs_o follow_v either_o he_o think_v his_o friend_n be_v not_o able_a or_o willing_a to_o pay_v his_o debt_n or_o else_o in_o truth_n he_o will_v not_o be_v behold_v to_o he_o for_o so_o much_o but_o if_o the_o debt_n be_v a_o little_a one_o than_o he_o will_v make_v a_o shift_n to_o pay_v some_o and_o his_o friend_n some_o and_o so_o they_o will_v make_v up_o the_o debt_n between_o they_o so_o it_o be_v in_o this_o case_n this_o be_v that_o which_o keep_v the_o heart_n from_o lay_v hold_n on_o the_o promise_n they_o think_v they_o be_v unworthy_a to_o partake_v thereof_o which_o be_v nothing_o but_o pride_n of_o spirit_n for_o either_o they_o will_v bring_v something_o and_o share_v with_o christ_n in_o the_o
