believe_v this_o abide_v all_o thing_n else_o will_v fail_v psal_n 26._o thy_o mercy_n reach_v to_o the_o heaven_n and_o thy_o truth_n into_o the_o cloud_n abraham_n have_v no_o hold_n leave_v but_o this_o and_o david_n no_o comfort_n in_o affliction_n but_o this_o word_n that_o sustain_v he_o we_o have_v a_o sure_a word_n of_o the_o prophet_n which_o though_o the_o father_n in_o reason_n may_v and_o not_o crucify_v to_o the_o world_n with_o christ_n such_o paul_n speak_v of_o that_o they_o serve_v their_o own_o belly_n and_o not_o christ_n and_o say_v that_o they_o turn_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n into_o wantonness_n and_o yet_o frequent_v their_o feast_n of_o love_n and_o other_o peter_n show_v that_o under_o pretence_n of_o long_o pray_v r_n spoil_a widow_n house_n and_o lead_v captive_a simple_a woman_n these_o paul_n command_v that_o see_v they_o will_v not_o work_v they_o shall_v not_o eat_v they_o profess_v that_o they_o know_v god_n but_o in_o deed_n deny_v he_o that_o be_v they_o be_v sill_v with_o knowledge_n that_o christ_n be_v the_o way_n of_o life_n in_o justification_n but_o they_o follow_v the_o world_n in_o their_o appetitte_n and_o deny_v he_o 1._o for_o thus_o religion_n be_v make_v but_o only_o a_o cloak_n to_o a_o rot_a and_o fleshly_a heart_n that_o under_o it_o they_o may_v better_o attain_v their_o own_o desire_n 2._o those_o that_o have_v the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o gospel_n without_o the_o power_n thereof_o that_o have_v learned_a to_o know_v christ_n but_o not_o as_o the_o truth_n be_v in_o jesus_n they_o want_v the_o power_n of_o his_o death_n which_o be_v indeed_o all_o 3._o these_o never_o come_v in_o by_o the_o right_a door_n the_o deny_v of_o themselves_o forsake_v all_o and_o take_v up_o the_o cross_n 1._o and_o thus_o do_v most_o of_o we_o that_o profess_v christ_n to_o be_v our_o lord_n and_o king_n our_o life_n and_o hope_n our_o joy_n and_o salvation_n and_o that_o beside_o he_o there_o be_v none_o under_o heaven_n and_o yet_o none_o deny_v he_o more_o we_o will_v enjoy_v christ_n with_o full_a belly_n and_o purse_n and_o so_o enjoy_v christ_n in_o the_o flesh_n but_o lust_n rule_n over_o the_o spirit_n thus_o we_o strive_v to_o have_v heaven_n and_o earth_n both_o which_o can_v be_v what_o care_n and_o labour_n to_o please_v our_o belly_n be_v not_o all_o a_o manâ—_n care_n for_o his_o mouth_n and_o yet_o his_o desire_n be_v not_o satisfy_v this_o we_o make_v sure_a of_o to_o look_v too_o be_v not_o most_o of_o thy_o life_n time_n spend_v in_o labour_n about_o that_o curious_a belly_n of_o thou_o summer_n and_o winter_n night_n and_o day_n all_o be_v but_o for_o back_n and_o belly_n and_o yet_o nature_n be_v satisfy_v with_o a_o little_a and_o these_o be_v still_o hard-hearted_n man_n have_v rather_o the_o poor_a perish_v in_o the_o street_n than_o they_o want_v to_o satisfy_v their_o appetite_n for_o if_o a_o man_n will_v but_o spare_v the_o ten_o penny_n that_o he_o spend_v idelie_o only_o to_o please_v his_o lust_n will_v it_o not_o relieve_v a_o town_n nay_o if_o that_o vain_a waste_n be_v spare_v which_o man_n spend_v on_o his_o lust_n only_o to_o feed_v a_o sort_n of_o fat_a idle_a hostess_n it_o will_v keep_v the_o poor_a of_o a_o paroch_n and_o then_o if_o our_o gairesh_a woman_n will_v but_o spare_v one_o lace_n and_o garde_n of_o five_o it_o will_v clothe_v they_o from_o cold_a well_o christ_n will_v be_v no_o pattern_n for_o these_o thing_n but_o above_o all_o ashame_n it_o be_v for_o believer_n to_o stoup_n to_o this_o loose_a god_n to_o live_v dainty_o and_o fair_a delicious_o how_o many_o martyr_n have_v line_n in_o prison_n with_o bread_n and_o water_n and_o yet_o better_a heart_n be_v we_o enemy_n to_o the_o flesh_n and_o yet_o pamper_v it_o be_v flesh_n thus_o crucify_v with_o christ_n and_o yet_o so_o great_a a_o god_n unto_o we_o 2._o then_o if_o the_o cross_n go_v not_o along_o with_o the_o gospel_n it_o prosper_v not_o but_o flesh_n be_v strong_a and_o press_v to_o be_v satisfy_v and_o man_n will_v not_o can_v lay_v violent_a hand_n upon_o it_o but_o even_o this_o must_v be_v give_v of_o god_n that_o he_o keep_v man_n down_o and_o his_o lust_n and_o desire_n under_o viz._n so_o to_o see_v and_o feel_v himself_o as_o 1._o that_o he_o shall_v think_v himself_o unworthy_a of_o any_o food_n or_o to_o live_v 2._o that_o his_o mind_n be_v so_o perplex_v with_o want_n of_o another_o thing_n even_o christ_n that_o his_o mind_n be_v thereby_o draw_v off_o all_o these_o thing_n 3._o but_o he_o that_o walk_v orderly_o with_o christ_n under_o the_o cross_n be_v please_v with_o any_o thing_n brown_a bread_n and_o the_o gospel_n be_v good_a fare_n not_o vow_v wilful_a poverty_n but_o rejoice_v in_o christ_n and_o all_o his_o gift_n yet_o well_o content_v in_o the_o want_n of_o they_o who_o glory_n be_v in_o their_o shame_n of_o wâ—ll_n end_n in_o shame_n viz_o they_o seek_v glory_n by_o their_o religion_n and_o profession_n of_o the_o gospel_n but_o this_o course_n will_v bring_v more_o shame_n then_o if_o they_o have_v never_o profess_v it_o they_o seek_v glory_n but_o it_o be_v but_o a_o poor_a portion_n so_o that_o many_o in_o the_o church_n profess_v the_o gospel_n that_o they_o may_v gain_v glory_n to_o themselves_o thereby_o in_o the_o eye_n of_o man_n rather_o than_o out_o of_o simple_a love_n and_o sympathize_v of_o heart_n with_o the_o gospel_n you_o seek_v honour_v one_o of_o another_o the_o disciple_n seek_v who_o to_o be_v great_a pharisees_n take_v the_o uppermost_a room_n make_v their_o phylactary_n broad_a &_o all_o to_o be_v see_v of_o man_n 1._o for_o respect_n be_v still_o the_o aim_n of_o all_o knowledge_n and_o therefore_o man_n labour_v for_o knowledge_n that_o he_o may_v appear_v so_o this_o itch_a humour_n set_v he_o a_o work_n rather_o than_o his_o own_o misery_n and_o want_n 2._o this_o do_v still_o follow_v the_o gospel_n other_o that_o profess_v not_o look_v for_o no_o glory_n this_o way_n and_o yet_o this_o shall_v end_v in_o shame_n 1._o be_v not_o this_o apparent_a when_o man_n speak_v and_o talk_v of_o religion_n and_o utter_v great_a bumbaisted_a term_n and_o fly_v and_o soar_v above_o when_o god_n speak_v not_o in_o they_o all_o to_o be_v see_v and_o hear_v nay_o when_o we_o preach_v to_o please_v man_n we_o be_v not_o the_o servant_n of_o christ_n but_o when_o out_o of_o love_n to_o christ_n and_o sense_n of_o the_o misery_n of_o man_n and_o our_o own_o we_o pity_v man_n and_o make_v know_v the_o will_n of_o the_o father_n to_o they_o than_o we_o serve_v christ_n 2._o have_v not_o all_o a_o aim_a and_o desire_v of_o this_o man_n loath_a to_o appear_v ignorant_a but_o clothes_n himself_o with_o knowledge_n well_o christ_n see_v thy_o double_a heart_n and_o his_o servant_n feel_v not_o the_o warm_a power_n of_o his_o spirit_n in_o thou_o therefore_o it_o shall_v end_v in_o shame_n christ_n love_v the_o publican_n better_o than_o those_o 3._o but_o sure_a a_o believe_v love_a heart_n walk_v in_o shame_n which_o shall_v be_v turn_v to_o his_o glory_n for_o he_o that_o seek_v glory_n shall_v never_o have_v it_o and_o be_v that_o seek_v it_o not_o shall_v have_v it_o he_o that_o true_o understand_v himself_o never_o look_v for_o good_a opinion_n of_o any_o for_o look_v what_o good_a opinion_n a_o man_n have_v of_o himself_o he_o look_v that_o the_o gospel_n be_v carry_v after_o the_o lust_n and_o desire_n of_o the_o earth_n be_v a_o enemy_n to_o christ_n and_o a_o stranger_n to_o he_o sermon_n ii_o matth._n 11.25_o 26._o i_o thank_v even_o to_o babe_n that_o his_o mercy_n and_o love_n may_v appear_v 1._o he_o give_v thanks_o for_o confound_v the_o wisdom_n of_o man_n and_o reveal_v it_o to_o the_o ignorant_a 2._o a_o limitation_n of_o that_o knowledge_n only_o to_o the_o power_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n 3._o a_o invitation_n to_o all_o poor_a and_o desolâ—te_a soul_n with_o a_o promise_n of_o help_n 4._o a_o exâ—ortation_n to_o patience_n in_o bear_v the_o cross_n after_o his_o example_n with_o a_o promise_n of_o rest_n therein_o first_o he_o thank_v god_n for_o confound_v the_o wisdom_n of_o the_o wise_a not_o that_o he_o rejoice_v in_o their_o blindness_n but_o wish_v rather_o that_o all_o may_v be_v save_v and_o come_v to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o truth_n but_o he_o rejoice_v that_o see_v flâ—shly_a wisdom_n shut_v its_o eye_n against_o the_o truth_n that_o yet_o he_o reveal_v it_o to_o other_o wherein_o he_o show_v who_o eye_n be_v only_o open_a to_o the_o truth_n viz._n he_o that_o in_o conceit_n of_o his_o own_o wisdom_n be_v lift_v up_o above_o the_o simplicity_n of_o the_o gospel_n understand_v the_o least_o of_o the_o mystery_n and_o life_n of_o the_o gospel_n but_o he_o that_o lie_v low_a in_o himself_o seek_v to_o be_v guide_v by_o another_o shall_v understand_v all_o none_o of_o the_o doctor_n receive_v his_o message_n not_o many_o wise_a cor._n 1._o etc._n etc._n if_o any_o man_n seem_v to_o be_v wise_a let_v he_o become_v a_o fool_n christ_n choose_v not_o the_o wise_a scribe_n but_o poor_a fisher_n to_o know_v his_o truâ—h_n 1._o for_o the_o gospel_n be_v not_o understand_v by_o wisdom_n but_o by_o that_o spirit_n whereby_o it_o be_v reveal_v to_o the_o faith_n of_o a_o believer_n that_o be_v blind_a in_o himself_o and_o seek_v wisdom_n from_o god_n 2._o i'faith_o only_o see_v thing_n not_o see_v if_o they_o be_v see_v and_o comprehend_v by_o man_n they_o be_v not_o of_o faith_n 3._o the_o son_n that_o be_v grow_v wise_a through_o pride_n cast_v off_o the_o father_n but_o the_o little_a child_n walk_v in_o his_o hand_n 4_o conceit_n of_o knowledge_n make_v man_n unteachable_a and_o hard_o heart_v as_o a_o man_n that_o sit_v on_o high_a look_v down_o to_o the_o dungeon_n can_v see_v nothing_o there_o but_o sit_v in_o the_o dungeon_n look_v up_o see_v light_n of_o sun_n so_o a_o man_n sit_v above_o and_o look_v down_o to_o the_o gospel_n as_o a_o thing_n under_o he_o see_v nothing_o but_o he_o that_o sit_v in_o darkness_n of_o his_o own_o heart_n and_o look_v up_o to_o the_o sun_n see_v all_o wait_v still_o for_o the_o sun_n to_o shine_v though_o man_n know_v all_o the_o mystery_n of_o life_n to_o be_v in_o christ_n yet_o without_o christ_n he_o know_v nothing_o that_o he_o dare_v trust_v to_o object_n to_o what_o end_n then_o shall_v man_n labour_v for_o knowledge_n answ_n yes_o this_o condemn_v not_o knowledge_n but_o that_o a_o man_n shall_v seek_v it_o at_o christ_n and_o enjoy_v it_o in_o he_o in_o who_o it_o be_v jesus_n christ_n 3_o be_v content_a to_o be_v count_v a_o fool_n with_o the_o wise_a of_o the_o world_n thou_o think_v that_o he_o be_v a_o fool_n that_o follow_v christ_n but_o he_o know_v that_o thou_o be_v a_o fool_n that_o follow_v the_o world_n 4._o who_o will_v think_v that_o many_o wise_a man_n shall_v be_v so_o ignorant_a in_o christ_n matter_n as_o they_o be_v and_o that_o many_o ignorant_o shall_v know_v he_o 5._o well_o worth_n low_a and_o child_n like_o mind_n that_o dare_v not_o trust_v their_o own_o wit_n or_o strength_n but_o wait_v upon_o the_o father_n it_o be_v so_o o_o father_n because_o thy_o pleasure_n be_v such_o here_o he_o show_v the_o ground_n and_o prime_a cause_n that_o babe_n and_o not_o wise_a man_n understand_v the_o gospel_n not_o any_o power_n or_o only_o his_o good_a pleasure_n so_o that_o 1._o hereby_o he_o be_v enlarge_v to_o praise_n god_n free_o with_o admiration_n 2._o and_o also_o to_o believe_v and_o wait_v on_o that_o word_n of_o
