and_o protestation_n to_o be_v assure_v and_o diligent_a in_o the_o trust_n commend_v to_o they_o so_o in_o these_o spiritual_a affair_n of_o great_a consequence_n there_o be_v no_o man_n have_v entertainmet_a in_o such_o business_n before_o he_o protest_v and_o vow_v his_o continual_a and_o utmost_a endeavour_n whereby_o he_o do_v solemn_o indent_v with_o god_n and_o bind_v himself_o to_o the_o due_a execution_n of_o his_o christian_a office_n 8_o religion_n then_o in_o religious_a man_n be_v not_o of_o conveniency_n only_o but_o of_o necessity_n necessary_a in_o all_o degree_n of_o man_n but_o of_o double_a use_n in_o the_o clergy_n for_o beside_o the_o particular_a profit_n which_o redound_v to_o he_o that_o be_v religious_a it_o gain_v much_o reverence_n and_o great_a authority_n from_o general_a reputation_n and_o give_v good_a testimony_n of_o the_o truth_n of_o such_o doctrine_n as_o from_o such_o man_n shall_v be_v deliver_v for_o there_o be_v no_o better_a way_n to_o gain_v credit_n to_o what_o we_o persuade_v then_o by_o conform_v our_o work_n to_o our_o word_n fetch_v example_n from_o our_o own_o life_n to_o confirm_v our_o own_o doctrine_n 9_o to_o be_v thus_o affect_v be_v the_o necessary_a condition_n of_o every_o pastoral_a office_n who_o direction_n must_v tend_v only_o and_o always_o at_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n without_o affect_v the_o glory_n or_o the_o profit_n of_o this_o life_n yet_o may_v religious_a man_n be_v lawful_o the_o owner_n both_o of_o wealth_n and_o dignity_n but_o with_o purpose_n only_o to_o make_v they_o serve_v a_o more_o necessary_a service_n and_o supply_v the_o occasion_n of_o holy_a purpose_n 10_o for_o god_n have_v make_v all_o thing_n for_o his_o own_o glory_n neither_o do_v the_o have_v of_o god_n earthly_a blessing_n hinder_v any_o in_o his_o holy_a resolution_n if_o he_o himself_o be_v holy_a and_o resolute_a for_o if_o his_o resolution_n be_v holy_a and_o his_o purpose_n resolute_a there_o be_v nothing_o able_a to_o remove_v such_o constancy_n and_o then_o prosperous_a fortune_n do_v not_o hinder_v but_o forward_o a_o christian_a resolution_n for_o wealth_n and_o the_o dignity_n of_o high_a place_n be_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n wherewith_o he_o do_v reward_v the_o service_n of_o man_n and_o therefore_o good_a man_n enjoy_v they_o of_o right_a but_o evil_a man_n by_o usurpation_n there_o be_v this_o difference_n also_o in_o the_o owner_n of_o earthly_a blessing_n that_o good_a man_n have_v they_o give_v but_o evil_a man_n take_v they_o either_o by_o force_n or_o fraud_n the_o latter_a sort_n make_v they_o their_o utmost_a desire_a end_n whereto_o they_o aspire_v the_o former_a make_v they_o serviceable_a mean_n only_o to_o attend_v and_o forward_o better_a purpose_n in_o the_o better_a they_o be_v but_o servant_n to_o religious_a service_n in_o the_o worse_o they_o be_v instrument_n of_o evil_a policy_n 11_o and_o these_o provocation_n be_v so_o powerful_a in_o man_n nature_n as_o that_o every_o degree_n of_o humane_a life_n have_v receive_v some_o infection_n from_o that_o poison_n even_o the_o holy_a rank_n of_o man_n who_o place_n be_v and_o ever_o have_v be_v of_o most_o reverend_a estimation_n man_n of_o religious_a name_n and_o place_n who_o have_v abiurde_v the_o vanity_n of_o this_o life_n and_o have_v dedicate_v themselves_o and_o their_o endeavour_n to_o god_n and_o godly_a care_n only_o even_o many_o of_o these_o man_n lose_v their_o lawful_a aim_n and_o shoot_v at_o such_o mark_n they_o ought_v not_o to_o level_v at_o make_v religion_n but_o to_o shadow_n policy_n and_o their_o good_a place_n to_o countenance_v their_o bad_a practice_n 12_o this_o affection_n in_o these_o man_n be_v dangerous_a and_o a_o most_o desperate_a inconvenience_n in_o many_o considerable_a respect_n first_o the_o service_n of_o god_n be_v thereby_o prevent_v second_o their_o pastoral_a function_n be_v neglect_v whereby_o the_o soul_n of_o many_o thousand_o be_v in_o danger_n three_o their_o reverend_a profession_n do_v receive_v scandal_n four_o the_o peace_n and_o prosperity_n of_o state_n be_v interrupt_v last_o the_o most_o desperate_a hazard_n of_o their_o soul_n be_v desperate_o venture_v which_o assure_o must_v answer_v all_o neglect_n and_o all_o colourable_a practice_n in_o the_o strict_a observance_n of_o their_o religious_a office_n 13_o and_o though_o the_o danger_n be_v most_o certain_a &_o the_o threat_n most_o terrible_a denounce_v by_o god_n himself_o against_o all_o offender_n in_o that_o kind_n and_o though_o in_o respect_n of_o their_o knowledge_n they_o have_v best_a understanding_n what_o the_o danger_n be_v of_o such_o offence_n yet_o so_o strong_a be_v vile_a sin_n in_o man_n nature_n that_o these_o vow_v &_o profess_a enemy_n of_o sin_n be_v oftentimes_o vanquish_v by_o these_o mean_a temptation_n and_o suffer_v their_o spiritual_a courage_n to_o be_v daunt_v with_o base_a encounter_n 14_o and_o this_o be_v most_o wonderful_a that_o such_o as_o know_v this_o danger_n will_v notwithstanding_o run_v desperate_o to_o most_o assure_a destruction_n damn_v themselves_o with_o their_o own_o consent_n and_o with_o the_o judgement_n of_o their_o own_o knowledge_n that_o such_o as_o be_v god_n ambassador_n and_o bear_v the_o message_n of_o eternal_a life_n such_o as_o stand_v in_o god_n presence_n to_o mediate_v and_o to_o make_v atonement_n for_o the_o sin_n of_o many_o yet_o forget_v themselves_o in_o a_o care_n of_o most_o importance_n such_o as_o dispose_v the_o spiritual_a favour_n of_o god_n mercy_n breathe_v abundance_n of_o grace_n with_o their_o holy_a teach_n yet_o themselves_o barren_a of_o all_o grace_n and_o of_o all_o such_o particular_a application_n the_o cause_n of_o this_o contrary_a disposition_n of_o name_n and_o nature_n in_o many_o of_o religious_a place_n be_v not_o to_o be_v find_v in_o the_o search_n of_o reason_n be_v a_o inserutable_a secret_n in_o the_o secret_a will_n of_o god_n 15_o such_o unfortunate_a man_n be_v they_o who_o have_v undertake_v the_o most_o serious_a of_o all_o service_n the_o service_n of_o the_o almighty_a bind_v themselves_o in_o a_o double_a obligation_n their_o vow_n of_o baptism_n and_o the_o vow_n of_o their_o profession_n dare_v and_o do_v notwithstanding_o infringe_v their_o serious_a promise_n and_o fall_v off_o from_o the_o service_n and_o charge_n they_o have_v undertake_v and_o such_o be_v all_o they_o who_o enter_v religious_a place_n and_o assume_v that_o reverend_a form_n for_o any_o by-respect_n either_o of_o profit_n or_o preferment_n or_o for_o any_o other_o cause_n than_o such_o as_o may_v direct_o conspire_v the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o the_o advancement_n of_o his_o church_n which_o be_v the_o utmost_a end_n of_o every_o christian_a office_n 16_o such_o man_n do_v not_o proportion_v the_o reverence_n of_o their_o place_n neither_o can_v merit_v the_o recompense_n of_o their_o service_n but_o as_o their_o name_n and_o nature_n utter_o disagree_v so_o their_o place_n and_o merit_n shall_v have_v no_o proportion_n for_o god_n will_v discover_v their_o hypocrisy_n and_o judge_v they_o according_a as_o they_o be_v and_o not_o as_o they_o seem_v to_o be_v for_o howsoever_o they_o bear_v the_o name_n and_o form_n of_o religious_a man_n yet_o have_v such_o nothing_o of_o religion_n but_o the_o name_n they_o themselves_o be_v in_o their_o purpose_n wicked_a and_o in_o their_o religion_n politic_a 17_o this_o unlawful_a and_o wicked_a policy_n in_o man_n of_o religious_a name_n &_o dedication_n be_v in_o their_o purpose_n in_o their_o practice_n and_o in_o their_o preach_n in_o all_o which_o many_o man_n offend_v and_o declare_v themselves_o politic_a and_o not_o religious_a policy_n in_o the_o purpose_n of_o clergy_n man_n be_v either_o when_o they_o compass_v those_o reverend_a place_n by_o indirect_a mean_n or_o when_o they_o propose_v private_a end_n or_o ungodly_a purpose_n the_o first_o sort_n be_v all_o they_o who_o intrude_v themselves_o into_o that_o sacred_a call_n by_o favour_n friend_n insinuation_n or_o base_a barganing_n all_o which_o enter_v uncalled_a and_o therefore_o want_v the_o promise_n of_o divine_a assistance_n the_o latter_a fort_n be_v such_o who_o undertake_v that_o serious_a charge_n not_o with_o purpose_n to_o discharge_v the_o duty_n of_o the_o place_n but_o only_a to_o glean_v the_o profit_n which_o from_o thence_o arise_v whereby_o they_o enjoy_v plenty_n and_o easy_a life_n wherein_o they_o place_v felicity_n and_o wherewith_o their_o base_a desire_n be_v satisfy_v 18_o policy_n in_o practice_n be_v when_o man_n abandon_v the_o care_n of_o their_o religious_a office_n to_o travel_v in_o the_o affair_n of_o politic_a state_n and_o of_o this_o sort_n there_o be_v hot_a and_o cold_a practitioner_n the_o cold_a be_v they_o who_o continue_v a_o general_a estimation_n of_o holiness_n with_o which_o mist_n they_o blind_v the_o common_a eye_n cover_v their_o politic_a design_n with_o the_o mantle_n of_o holiness_n &_o
now_o what_o he_o ought_v not_o to_o do_v must_v be_v consider_v which_o brief_o be_v but_o this_o that_o his_o proceed_n in_o the_o administration_n of_o his_o kingly_a office_n be_v not_o uniustifiable_a before_o god_n and_o conscience_n that_o in_o his_o consultation_n of_o state_n and_o in_o the_o exercise_n of_o arm_n wherein_o there_o be_v inevitable_a necessity_n of_o policy_n and_o stratagem_n there_o be_v not_o admit_v a_o unlimited_a liberty_n of_o all_o policy_n whereby_o the_o cause_n without_o the_o effect_n and_o the_o effect_n without_o the_o cause_n be_v bare_o consider_v but_o that_o god_n may_v be_v still_o in_o the_o eye_n of_o all_o such_o business_n and_o that_o the_o judgement_n of_o religion_n may_v determine_v all_o state_n consultation_n what_o be_v or_o what_o be_v not_o lawful_a in_o every_o work_n of_o state_n 11_o and_o therefore_o of_o ancient_a it_o be_v that_o in_o the_o state_n counsel_n of_o christian_a kingdom_n religious_a man_n either_o archbishop_n or_o bishop_n have_v have_v and_o have_v precedency_n in_o all_o such_o honourable_a assembly_n of_o state_n man_n because_o their_o judgement_n may_v determine_v the_o lawfulness_n or_o unlawfulness_n of_o such_o policy_n as_o in_o that_o assembly_n of_o senator_n be_v propound_v therefore_o in_o every_o action_n and_o in_o every_o consultation_n of_o state_n wherein_o there_o be_v necessary_a use_n of_o policy_n it_o be_v most_o needful_a that_o the_o prince_n declare_v himself_o religious_a and_o that_o he_o judge_v every_o practice_n and_o every_o policy_n by_o lawfulness_n and_o not_o by_o conveniency_n only_o in_o respect_n of_o state_n governor_n chap._n vii_o in_o this_o particular_a of_o state_n governor_n it_o may_v seem_v that_o not_o religion_n but_o policy_n be_v most_o considerable_a because_o in_o their_o common_a business_n of_o state_n wherein_o they_o have_v continual_a travel_n they_o common_o encounter_v with_o many_o politic_a and_o desperate_a design_n in_o the_o secret_a practice_n of_o their_o state_n enemy_n against_o which_o practice_n their_o wisdom_n advice_n upon_o such_o politic_a prevention_n as_o may_v best_o frustrate_v the_o evil_a purpose_n of_o their_o enemy_n and_o therefore_o it_o may_v seem_v that_o the_o service_n of_o their_o place_n do_v challenge_v a_o liberty_n in_o the_o use_n of_o all_o policy_n be_v to_o encounter_v with_o politician_n and_o practice_n of_o all_o nature_n 2_o to_o which_o i_o answer_v that_o there_o be_v no_o such_o necessity_n of_o evil_a policy_n in_o these_o worthy_a senator_n of_o state_n for_o evil_a be_v not_o to_o be_v resist_v with_o evil_a but_o with_o goodness_n neither_o be_v religious_a policy_n so_o defective_a as_o to_o be_v supply_v with_o ungodly_a practice_n or_o not_o of_o itself_o to_o furnish_v the_o wisdom_n of_o man_n with_o sufficient_a strength_n against_o all_o unlawful_a attempt_n and_o all_o pestilent_a contrivement_n 3_o and_o therefore_o as_o all_o man_n so_o statesman_n be_v bind_v within_o the_o limit_n of_o honesty_n and_o lawful_a warrant_n beyond_o which_o there_o be_v no_o policy_n or_o practice_n can_v be_v lawful_a this_o strictness_n of_o lawful_a policy_n be_v the_o square_a wherewith_o every_o religious_a statesman_n in_o the_o world_n do_v fashion_v all_o his_o policy_n in_o which_o conscionable_a consideration_n there_o be_v both_o piety_n and_o policy_n piety_n in_o conform_v obedience_n to_o holy_a rule_n and_o policy_n in_o observe_v such_o order_n in_o their_o counsel_n as_o may_v make_v the_o practice_n fortunate_a &_o assure_v because_o that_o god_n do_v ever_o forward_o the_o lawfulness_n of_o proceed_v but_o do_v often_o oppose_v his_o power_n against_o injurious_a and_o unlawful_a policy_n 4_o neither_o be_v it_o of_o any_o persuasion_n that_o the_o great_a politician_n of_o the_o world_n not_o only_o practice_v but_o publish_v unlawful_a policy_n frame_v argument_n of_o conveniency_n to_o conclude_v against_o the_o testimony_n of_o god_n and_o religion_n because_o such_o man_n howsoever_o of_o christian_a name_n be_v notwithstanding_o of_o heathenish_a judgement_n and_o of_o devilish_a disposition_n in_o who_o &_o in_o who_o judgement_n may_v be_v observe_v this_o most_o gross_a error_n that_o whereas_o all_o the_o travel_n of_o state_n be_v only_a service_n do_v for_o the_o state_n of_o religion_n they_o will_v have_v religion_n with_o all_o other_o occasion_n serve_v for_o the_o advancement_n of_o state_n by_o which_o most_o injurious_a &_o wicked_a judgement_n they_o will_v depose_v the_o king_n to_o advance_v the_o subject_n and_o divorce_v the_o wife_n to_o marry_v the_o maid_n but_o as_o themselves_o so_o their_o reason_n be_v wicked_a and_o senseless_a for_o as_o the_o soul_n do_v exceed_v the_o body_n in_o the_o dignity_n of_o their_o nature_n so_o do_v the_o church_n the_o state_n and_o so_o do_v religion_n policy_n 5_o it_o be_v also_o very_o worthy_a of_o note_n that_o the_o ancient_a roman_n a_o people_n most_o famous_a for_o civil_a government_n in_o the_o time_n of_o their_o aristocracy_n be_v govern_v by_o consul_n and_o senator_n have_v in_o all_o their_o great_a affair_n of_o state_n a_o precise_a regard_n to_o honesty_n and_o that_o no_o dishonourable_a practice_n may_v ever_o disgrace_v the_o trophy_n of_o their_o victory_n and_o this_o scruple_n they_o be_v teach_v by_o the_o wisdom_n of_o nature_n and_o by_o their_o great_a experience_n in_o civil_a government_n and_o therefore_o in_o they_o it_o be_v strange_a and_o worthy_a that_o have_v no_o divine_a law_n but_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n only_o to_o instruct_v they_o yield_v themselves_o notwithstanding_o to_o this_o obedience_n whereto_o they_o be_v not_o force_v but_o only_o by_o their_o own_o election_n and_o this_o their_o natural_a devotion_n to_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n may_v judge_v and_o condemn_v all_o dishonourable_a and_o dishonest_a practice_n in_o the_o christian_a world_n 6_o and_o though_o the_o christian_a world_n be_v full_a of_o example_n which_o have_v devise_v and_o practise_v project_n of_o most_o fearful_a remembrance_n and_o though_o many_o of_o these_o practiser_n have_v be_v man_n of_o state_n in_o religious_a state_n yet_o be_v that_o of_o no_o persuasion_n to_o corrupt_v the_o noble_a and_o religious_a affection_n of_o religious_a governor_n of_o state_n because_o discreet_a man_n live_v not_o by_o example_n but_o by_o rule_n for_o rule_n be_v ever_o constant_a and_o certain_a but_o custom_n and_o example_n be_v not_o but_o shift_v their_o fashion_n according_a to_o man_n diverse_a disposition_n and_o therefore_o such_o example_n be_v like_o sea-mark_n which_o allure_v not_o the_o provident_a passenger_n to_o approach_v but_o to_o shun_v they_o rather_o and_o by_o these_o evil_a example_n of_o bad_a man_n be_v good_a man_n admonish_v and_o resolve_v in_o their_o honest_a and_o godly_a resolution_n 7_o therefore_o in_o the_o strictness_n of_o conscience_n every_o counsellor_n of_o state_n and_o every_o politic_a instruction_n of_o every_o counsellor_n be_v bind_v with_o certain_a limitation_n beyond_o which_o they_o can_v go_v without_o offence_n for_o if_o the_o policy_n he_o advise_v respect_v the_o church_n and_o the_o state_n of_o religion_n such_o policy_n must_v either_o direct_o or_o by_o necessary_a consequence_n intend_v the_o glory_n of_o god_n otherwise_o the_o policy_n be_v bad_a practice_n and_o the_o politician_n wicked_a 8_o again_o if_o the_o counsellor_n advise_v in_o matter_n of_o state_n and_o civil_a government_n in_o such_o advice_n there_o must_v be_v charity_n lest_o for_o some_o ungodly_a respect_n they_o advise_v not_o the_o profit_n but_o the_o calamity_n of_o many_o thousand_o such_o be_v the_o counsel_n rehoboham_n have_v give_v he_o by_o his_o young_a politician_n 9_o last_o if_o the_o counsel_n we_o give_v concern_v our_o enemy_n yet_o there_o be_v a_o mercy_n even_o in_o that_o respect_n for_o in_o every_o man_n of_o godly_a disposition_n there_o be_v a_o gracious_a pity_n which_o will_v dissuade_v not_o the_o damage_n but_o the_o destruction_n of_o our_o enemy_n the_o want_n of_o this_o pity_n be_v punish_v in_o that_o devilish_a politic_a counsel_n of_o hammon_n who_o because_o his_o revenge_n be_v bloody_a have_v therefore_o god_n for_o his_o enemy_n and_o his_o destruction_n 10_o in_o respect_n of_o governor_n of_o state_n then_o religion_n and_o policy_n be_v most_o considerable_a religion_n be_v the_o utmost_a end_n whereto_o they_o direct_v their_o lawful_a policy_n and_o good_a policy_n the_o mean_n whereby_o their_o religious_a state_n stand_v and_o flourish_v in_o prosperous_a reputation_n and_o undoubted_o the_o truth_n of_o christian_a religion_n in_o all_o christian_n state_n may_v be_v argue_v from_o the_o observation_n of_o their_o state_n practice_v and_o from_o the_o lawful_a proceed_n of_o politic_n government_n 11_o for_o if_o the_o politic_a state_n be_v find_v guilty_a of_o dishonourable_a practice_n it_o lay_v a_o imputation_n and_o jealousy_n on_o the_o state_n of_o religion_n
in_o the_o true_a sense_n of_o religion_n do_v wander_v from_o the_o line_n of_o truth_n in_o many_o particular_n yet_o in_o respect_n of_o their_o main_a execution_n they_o be_v very_o noble_a and_o worthy_a personage_n and_o such_o as_o have_v well_o deserve_v a_o honourable_a remembrance_n 13_o beside_o these_o profess_a religious_a warrior_n be_v there_o many_o other_o of_o honourable_a name_n who_o valour_n have_v win_v much_o honour_n in_o the_o christian_a war_n many_o of_o they_o and_o some_o of_o this_o nation_n out-truding_a the_o barbarous_a and_o profane_a people_n from_o the_o holy_a land_n make_v famous_a by_o the_o birth_n and_o temporal_a life_n of_o christ_n jesus_n to_o reckon_v up_o the_o particular_n either_o of_o their_o name_n or_o of_o their_o noble_a deed_n in_o this_o kind_n will_v require_v much_o labour_n and_o large_a circumstance_n the_o which_o i_o careful_o avoid_v because_o they_o be_v already_o make_v famous_a in_o write_n of_o much_o more_o learned_a sufficiency_n 14_o these_o and_o such_o as_o these_o who_o have_v for_o religious_a respect_n only_o enter_v these_o quarrel_n and_o exercise_v their_o valour_n for_o the_o advancement_n of_o catholic_a religion_n only_o without_o all_o private_a direction_n to_o any_o by-respect_n whatsoever_o have_v be_v move_v and_o order_v in_o their_o honourable_a attempt_n by_o religion_n and_o not_o by_o policy_n because_o they_o intend_v not_o their_o private_a but_o the_o general_a care_n of_o christendom_n 15_o but_o if_o i_o shall_v strict_o examine_v the_o poceeding_n of_o these_o latter_a time_n and_o make_v curious_a search_n of_o every_o cause_n and_o purpose_n of_o our_o christian_a war_n it_o may_v be_v doubt_v that_o not_o religion_n but_o policy_n do_v both_o occasion_n &_o direct_v many_o of_o they_o and_o that_o not_o the_o good_a of_o religion_n but_o the_o greatness_n of_o empire_n be_v principal_o regard_v religion_n be_v only_o a_o pretend_a cause_n whereupon_o to_o ground_v some_o colourable_a excuse_n to_o make_v such_o practice_n seem_v honest_a and_o commendable_a which_o in_o truth_n be_v dishonest_a and_o not_o allowable_a 16_o therefore_o in_o every_o honourable_a exercise_n of_o arm_n among_o christian_n there_o must_v be_v a_o just_a and_o no_o pretend_a cause_n to_o move_v offence_n for_o he_o that_o labour_v to_o colour_v his_o purpose_n do_v thereby_o conclude_v his_o own_o guilt_n and_o the_o unlawfulness_n of_o his_o practice_n which_o if_o it_o be_v honest_a will_v not_o need_v any_o false_a colour_n to_o make_v it_o seem_v so_o for_o truth_n and_o lawful_a proceed_n be_v justifiable_a of_o themselves_o neither_o do_v truth_n ever_o mask_v her_o face_n or_o shame_n at_o her_o open_a appearance_n therefore_o all_o such_o colourable_a practice_n be_v not_o warrant_v by_o religion_n neither_o do_v it_o labour_v religious_a cause_n but_o by_o politic_n mean_v it_o reach_v and_o principal_o intend_v a_o politic_a end_n 17_o in_o respect_n also_o of_o courtly_a honour_n be_v these_o respect_n of_o religion_n and_o policy_n of_o much_o consequence_n because_o the_o most_o honourable_a in_o prince_n court_n have_v the_o high_a care_n in_o commonwealth_n and_o because_o they_o be_v near_o the_o person_n of_o the_o prince_n who_o common_o be_v either_o better_a or_o worse_o according_a as_o his_o honourable_a company_n be_v affect_v for_o the_o best_a endowment_n of_o nature_n be_v many_o time_n corrupt_v by_o society_n which_o have_v a_o great_a power_n of_o persuasion_n than_o instruction_n or_o argument_n therefore_o be_v it_o most_o needful_a that_o the_o honourable_a in_o court_n fashion_v the_o whole_a passage_n of_o their_o life_n by_o religious_a rule_n and_o shun_v all_o dishonourable_a and_o dishonest_a contrivement_n because_o of_o their_o near_a familiarity_n with_o the_o prince_n by_o who_o he_o be_v advise_v order_v and_o example_v 18_o and_o such_o no_o doubt_n there_o be_v many_o in_o many_o prince_n court_n who_o proportion_n all_o their_o proceed_n by_o wisdom_n and_o religious_a judgement_n serve_v god_n and_o their_o nation_n in_o the_o conscionable_a discharge_n of_o their_o high_a office_n and_o better_v the_o disposition_n of_o their_o prince_n by_o their_o virtuous_a example_n which_o provoke_v a_o princely_a mind_n to_o imitation_n that_o can_v be_v better_o teach_v then_o by_o example_n and_o these_o honourable_a pattern_n be_v most_o worthy_a and_o most_o religious_a who_o double_a the_o recompense_n of_o their_o reward_n be_v obedient_a in_o so_o high_a a_o call_n 19_o there_o be_v common_o in_o all_o court_n other_o of_o much_o diverse_a nature_n who_o when_o they_o have_v obtain_v those_o name_n of_o honour_n disproportion_v their_o practice_n to_o their_o honourable_a name_n prove_v not_o only_o vile_a and_o base_a in_o the_o ungodly_a behaviour_n of_o their_o life_n but_o very_o pestilent_a to_o their_o nation_n and_o a_o very_a poison_n to_o their_o prince_n by_o who_o he_o be_v withhold_v from_o godly_a purpose_n and_o flatter_v in_o vice_n and_o misdemeanour_n 20_o and_o such_o be_v those_o court-parasits_a who_o feed_v their_o prince_n appetite_n with_o variety_n of_o evil_a apply_v the_o command_n of_o his_o regal_a authority_n either_o to_o his_o or_o their_o own_o ungodly_a purpose_n whereof_o all_o time_n have_v example_n and_o whereof_o this_o kingdom_n have_v have_v a_o woeful_a experience_n and_o these_o howsoever_o they_o attain_v the_o name_n of_o honour_n and_o live_v in_o the_o number_n and_o fellowship_n of_o christian_n yet_o the_o exercise_n of_o their_o life_n be_v base_a and_o most_o ignoble_a and_o their_o religion_n be_v nothing_o but_o a_o wicked_a trade_n of_o damn_a policy_n 21_o therefore_o as_o in_o all_o other_o affair_n so_o in_o all_o honourable_a affair_n there_o be_v a_o duty_n of_o holiness_n which_o limit_n every_o passage_n of_o their_o life_n which_o be_v observe_v it_o give_v a_o gracious_a lustre_n to_o their_o nobility_n and_o make_v they_o honourable_a in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n and_o to_o live_v in_o the_o rank_n of_o his_o servant_n than_o which_o there_o can_v be_v a_o great_a honour_n but_o whosoever_o shall_v disgrace_v or_o despise_v this_o duty_n of_o conscience_n god_n will_v repute_v he_o base_a and_o disgrace_v the_o glory_n of_o his_o nobility_n of_o religion_n and_o policy_n in_o respect_n of_o prosperous_a fortune_n chap._n x._o prosperous_a fortune_n be_v in_o every_o man_n care_n because_o all_o man_n travel_v to_o attain_v such_o fortune_n wherein_o they_o place_v prosperity_n and_o from_o hence_o may_v be_v consider_v the_o wonderful_a variety_n of_o man_n pleasure_n from_o the_o variety_n of_o their_o desire_a fortune_n every_o man_n covet_v content_a but_o with_o much_o disagreement_n in_o their_o election_n insomuch_o as_o that_o which_o be_v painful_o seek_v by_o one_o be_v careful_o avoid_v of_o another_o and_o that_o which_o be_v hateful_a to_o one_o be_v to_o another_o most_o delightful_a 2_o and_o this_o do_v not_o only_o happen_v in_o the_o diverse_a nature_n of_o good_a and_o evil_a but_o both_o good_a and_o evil_n have_v this_o variety_n in_o their_o delight_n every_o virtuous_a man_n prefer_v the_o exercise_n of_o some_o one_o virtue_n before_o all_o other_o whereto_o his_o nature_n be_v most_o inclinable_a and_o every_o vicious_a man_n prefer_v in_o his_o choice_a election_n some_o particular_a vice_n more_o than_o other_o whereto_o his_o sensual_a appetite_n be_v most_o affect_a 3_o this_o variety_n do_v reduce_v itself_o to_o these_o two_o beginning_n either_o to_o good_a or_o evil_n and_o therefore_o though_o the_o particular_n very_o much_o disagree_v yet_o in_o their_o general_a aim_n they_o all_o direct_v themselves_o to_o one_o of_o these_o two_o end_n virtue_n or_o vice_n religion_n or_o policy_n 4_o and_o here_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o every_o man_n in_o the_o purpose_n of_o his_o life_n be_v either_o good_a or_o bad_a frame_v the_o whole_a disposition_n of_o his_o life_n according_a to_o his_o election_n of_o these_o two_o end_n for_o in_o man_n well_o affect_v their_o consent_n never_o yield_v to_o any_o ungodly_a practice_n though_o the_o infirmity_n of_o their_o nature_n force_v they_o to_o much_o unlawfulness_n and_o therefore_o though_o they_o do_v evil_a it_o be_v not_o of_o choice_n but_o of_o infirmity_n but_o of_o the_o contrary_a man_n resolve_v in_o evil_a enlarge_v the_o corruption_n of_o their_o nature_n give_v both_o will_n and_o desire_v to_o forward_o &_o assist_v they_o in_o their_o unlawful_a delight_n in_o the_o former_a there_o be_v a_o sense_n of_o sorrow_n and_o a_o desire_n of_o amendment_n cause_v by_o the_o persuasion_n of_o conscience_n in_o the_o latter_a there_o be_v no_o remorse_n though_o the_o conscience_n both_o judge_n and_o condemn_v and_o therefoe_n they_o refuse_v to_o apprehend_v the_o knowledge_n of_o their_o own_o misery_n &_o silence_n the●_n offend_v conscience_n which_o will_v both_o correct_v &_o reform_v they_o 5_o thus_o
