all_o thought_n of_o pride_n a_o man_n be_v so_o proud_a and_o vain_a that_o many_o idle_a and_o presumptuous_a thought_n will_v be_v rush_v in_o upon_o he_o and_o he_o will_v imagine_v himself_o to_o be_v in_o some_o high_a office_n and_o perform_v of_o some_o great_a function_n already_o you_o fancy_v yourselves_o to_o be_v preach_v in_o the_o place_n where_o you_o be_v bear_v with_o great_a allowance_n and_o like_v and_o you_o imagine_v that_o you_o produce_v great_a fruit_n already_o do_v you_o conceive_v that_o you_o be_v read_v or_o dispute_v against_o such_o conclusion_n with_o great_a applause_n of_o the_o hearer_n and_o such_o thing_n as_o these_o all_o this_o grow_v from_o our_o great_a pride_n which_o lie_v sprout_v and_o break_v out_o into_o these_o thought_n and_o therefore_o it_o will_v be_v very_o well_o do_v to_o make_v a_o particular_a examination_n upon_o the_o clip_n and_o cut_v of_o these_o thought_n which_o be_v so_o haughty_a and_o vain_a and_o so_o will_v it_o be_v fit_a so_o to_o stop_v and_o instant_o to_o cut_v off_o all_o impure_a thought_n and_o rash_a judgement_n or_o any_o other_o vice_n whereby_o we_o may_v find_v ourselves_o to_o be_v molest_v the_o sixth_o point_n shall_v be_v to_o carry_v a_o particular_a examination_n upon_o yourselves_o whether_o you_o esteem_v of_o all_o man_n as_o your_o superior_n according_a to_o that_o rule_n that_o we_o must_v animate_v ourselves_o towards_o humility_n by_o procure_v and_o desire_v to_o give_v the_o advantage_n to_o other_o esteem_v they_o all_o from_o our_o very_a soul_n as_o if_o they_o be_v our_o superior_n and_o exterior_o bear_v they_o that_o respect_n and_o reverence_n which_o the_o condition_n or_o state_n of_o every_o one_o of_o they_o shall_v bear_v with_o plainness_n and_o religious_a simplicity_n of_o heart_n and_o this_o be_v also_o take_v from_o the_o apostle_n and_o howsoever_o there_o be_v to_o be_v a_o difference_n among_o man_n according_a to_o the_o distinction_n of_o their_o person_n and_o state_n yet_o for_o as_o much_o as_o may_v concern_v the_o interior_a and_o true_a humility_n of_o our_o soul_n every_o one_o of_o we_o must_v hold_v himself_o for_o the_o least_o and_o low_a and_o must_v hold_v all_o other_o for_o his_o superior_n and_o better_n this_o shall_v therefore_o be_v a_o very_a good_a and_o profitable_a examination_n but_o yet_o so_o as_o that_o it_o be_v not_o only_o speculative_a but_o that_o in_o the_o exercise_n and_o practice_v thereof_o we_o procure_v to_o carry_v ourselves_o so_o towards_o all_o with_o occasion_n which_o offer_v themselves_o towards_o the_o get_n of_o humility_n be_v you_o wont_a to_o be_v trouble_v when_o another_o speak_v some_o little_a word_n to_o you_o which_o you_o will_v mean_n for_o the_o service_n of_o god_n and_o the_o good_a of_o soul_n may_v affirm_v with_o truth_n that_o he_o desire_v and_o like_v nothing_o in_o it_o but_o the_o glory_n of_o almighty_a god_n but_o let_v we_o now_o consider_v how_o we_o may_v know_v whether_o a_o man_n delight_n in_o honour_n and_o estimation_n for_o the_o mere_a glory_n of_o god_n and_o the_o good_a of_o his_o neighbour_n or_o else_o for_o his_o own_o sake_n and_o for_o the_o affection_n which_o he_o bear_v to_o his_o own_o honour_n for_o this_o indeed_o be_v a_o nice_a point_n wherein_o the_o whole_a difficulty_n of_o this_o business_n consist_v saint_n gregory_n answer_v thus_o our_o be_v glad_a of_o honour_n and_o estimation_n be_v to_o be_v so_o mere_o for_o god_n that_o when_o it_o be_v not_o necessary_a for_o not_o necessary_a for_o the_o good_a of_o other_o he_o know_v very_o well_o how_o to_o empty_v and_o abase_v himself_o say_v that_o he_o be_v not_o worthy_a to_o be_v call_v a_o apostle_n because_o he_o have_v persecute_v the_o church_n of_o god_n and_o still_v himself_o blasphemous_a and_o abortive_a and_o the_o great_a of_o sinner_n and_o when_o the_o occasion_n of_o dishonour_n and_o contempt_n be_v present_v to_o he_o therein_o be_v his_o contentment_n and_o joy_n such_o heart_n as_o these_o we_o may_v well_o trustwith_o receive_v honour_n and_o with_o say_v sometime_o such_o thing_n as_o may_v conduce_v towards_o it_o because_o they_o will_v never_o do_v it_o but_o when_o it_o may_v be_v necessary_a for_o the_o great_a glory_n of_o god_n yea_o and_o even_o then_o they_o do_v it_o so_o much_o without_o the_o stick_n of_o any_o part_n thereof_o to_o themselves_o as_o if_o they_o have_v not_o do_v it_o at_o all_o for_o they_o love_v not_o their_o own_o honour_n but_o nor_o speak_v nor_o desire_n nor_o think_v nor_o begin_v nor_o finish_v any_o thing_n which_o may_v serve_v for_o our_o salvation_n without_o god_n from_o who_o all_o our_o sufficiency_n proceed_v upon_o his_o own_o industry_n and_o diligence_n but_o to_o refer_v and_o ascribe_v all_o to_o god_n but_o indeed_o it_o be_v very_o hard_a for_o since_o we_o also_o contribute_v somewhat_o on_o our_o part_n towards_o good_a work_n as_o st_n paul_n say_v because_o we_o also_o work_v and_o concur_v joint_o with_o god_n we_o grow_v tacit_o and_o even_o as_o it_o be_v without_o find_v it_o to_o confide_v in_o ourselves_o and_o a_o secret_a presumption_n and_o pride_n steal_v upon_o we_o which_o make_v we_o think_v that_o this_o or_o that_o be_v do_v by_o our_o diligence_n and_o care_n and_o those_o gift_n grace_n honour_n and_o estimation_n as_o thing_n extrinsical_a to_o themselves_o and_o receive_v from_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n and_o to_o he_o they_o ascribe_v and_o give_v all_o the_o glory_n and_o praise_v thereof_o themselves_o remain_v still_o entire_a in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o their_o own_o unworthines_n consider_v that_o of_o themselves_o they_o can_v neither_o have_v nor_o do_v any_o good_a thing_n and_o from_o thence_o it_o also_o come_v that_o though_o the_o whole_a world_n exalt_v they_o they_o will_v never_o yet_o exalt_v themselves_o nor_o esteem_v themelve_n one_o
