be_v the_o death_n of_o christ_n but_o chief_o because_o the_o force_n of_o the_o apostle_n argument_n lie_v in_o these_o word_n that_o then_o christ_n die_v without_o a_o cause_n yet_o here_o we_o intend_v not_o to_o meddle_v with_o the_o natural_a cause_n of_o his_o death_n for_o manifest_v it_o be_v that_o natural_o his_o crucify_a cause_v it_o nor_o yet_o with_o the_o voluntary_a cause_n of_o it_o on_o the_o jew_n part_n for_o so_o the_o cause_n of_o it_o be_v partly_o the_o sentence_n of_o pilate_n who_o will_v it_o be_v to_o condemn_v he_o partly_o the_o malice_n of_o the_o jew_n who_o will_v it_o be_v to_o importune_v that_o sentence_n and_o partly_o the_o treachery_n of_o judas_n who_o will_v it_o be_v to_o betray_v he_o but_o our_o meaning_n be_v to_o declare_v the_o voluntary_a cause_n of_o it_o on_o god_n part_n why_o god_n have_v a_o will_n to_o decree_v the_o death_n of_o christ_n and_o actual_o to_o subject_v he_o thereunto_o and_o the_o cause_n thereof_o on_o god_n part_n if_o they_o be_v right_o allege_v according_a to_o the_o scripture_n must_v needs_o have_v in_o they_o these_o three_o quality_n 1._o they_o must_v be_v repugnant_a unto_o justify_v by_o the_o law_n for_o otherwise_o we_o lose_v the_o force_n of_o the_o apostle_n argument_n which_o run_v thus_o for_o if_o righteousness_n or_o the_o right_a whereto_o a_o man_n be_v justify_v come_v by_o the_o law_n than_o christ_n die_v without_o a_o cause_n i._n e._n if_o the_o law_n have_v this_o effect_n to_o justify_v than_o there_o be_v no_o just_a cause_n why_o christ_n die_v and_o therefore_o there_o must_v be_v such_o a_o repugnancy_n between_o that_o effect_n of_o the_o law_n and_o the_o cause_n of_o christ_n death_n that_o he_o who_o suppose_v the_o former_a do_v thereby_o overthrow_v the_o latter_a and_o contrary_o if_o there_o be_v a_o cause_n of_o christ_n death_n the_o law_n must_v needs_o be_v without_o that_o effect_n 2._o they_o must_v be_v consequent_a to_o the_o love_n and_o grace_n of_o god_n for_o otherwise_o again_o we_o lose_v another_o force_n of_o the_o apostle_n reason_v whereby_o he_o infer_v that_o if_o christ_n die_v without_o cause_n than_o i_o frustrate_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n but_o i_o do_v not_o frustrate_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n who_o by_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n convey_v that_o grace_n unto_o i_o for_o indeed_o the_o supreme_a inward_a impulsive_a cause_n or_o prime_a motive_n of_o christ_n death_n be_v the_o love_n and_o grace_n of_o god_n towards_o we_o and_o not_o his_o hatred_n or_o wrath_n but_o of_o this_o remote_a cause_n we_o speak_v before_o upon_o the_o former_a verse_n and_o therefore_o shall_v not_o insist_v upon_o it_o any_o further_o 3._o they_o must_v be_v respective_a unto_o the_o new_a testament_n partly_o because_o the_o new_a testament_n be_v both_o repugnant_a to_o god_n law_n and_o also_o consequent_a to_o god_n grace_n partly_o because_o the_o new_a testament_n be_v that_o solemn_a will_n and_o act_n of_o god_n wherein_o his_o love_n and_o grace_n be_v convey_v and_o whereon_o all_o the_o action_n of_o christ_n reflect_v repugnant_o therefore_o to_o the_o effect_n of_o the_o law_n and_o consequent_o to_o the_o love_n and_o grace_n of_o god_n and_o respective_o to_o the_o new_a testament_n the_o immediate_a proper_a final_a cause_n or_o reason_n of_o christ_n death_n be_v chief_o three_o 1._o to_o testify_v or_o prove_v the_o truth_n of_o the_o new_a testament_n every_o testament_n ought_v to_o be_v sufficient_o and_o solemn_o testify_v for_o hence_o by_o way_n of_o eminency_n it_o be_v call_v a_o testament_n partly_o because_o active_o it_o do_v testify_v the_o mind_n or_o will_n of_o the_o testator_n as_o the_o civil_a law_n deliver_v it_o which_o thereupon_o say_v testamentum_fw-la ex_fw-la eo_fw-la appellatur_fw-la quod_fw-la sit_fw-la testatio_fw-la mentis_fw-la but_o chief_o under_o correction_n because_o passive_o it_o be_v solemn_o testify_v by_o the_o testimony_n of_o several_a testable_a person_n who_o be_v to_o attest_v the_o truth_n of_o it_o and_o in_o case_n it_o be_v a_o write_a testament_n actual_o do_v attest_v it_o testify_v by_o a_o angel_n in_o the_o audience_n of_o all_o the_o nation_n and_o beside_o this_o solemn_a testimony_n the_o law_n have_v the_o prescription_n of_o be_v in_o force_n for_o the_o space_n of_o fifteen_o hundred_o year_n the_o new_a testament_n therefore_o which_o be_v to_o infringe_v the_o old_a wherein_o a_o whole_a nation_n have_v be_v so_o long_o interest_v have_v need_n of_o good_a testimony_n because_o man_n will_v struggle_v hard_a for_o their_o law_n custom_n and_o religion_n wherein_o the_o grave_a sort_n will_v hardly_o endure_v any_o change_n and_o the_o new_a testament_n though_o it_o be_v not_o write_v as_o be_v the_o old_a but_o be_v nuncupative_a declare_v by_o god_n only_o to_o christ_n yet_o it_o have_v very_o sufficient_a testimony_n as_o good_a and_o better_a than_o the_o old_a for_o the_o certainty_n and_o truth_n thereof_o be_v testify_v by_o the_o son_n of_o god_n a_o great_a person_n than_o any_o angel_n and_o he_o testify_v it_o by_o great_a mean_n not_o with_o lightning_n and_o thunder_n but_o with_o work_n of_o wonder_n such_o as_o never_o be_v do_v in_o the_o world_n before_o such_o as_o have_v they_o be_v in_o sodom_n it_o will_v have_v remain_v until_o this_o day_n as_o the_o strangeness_n of_o his_o miracle_n the_o holiness_n of_o his_o life_n and_o the_o solemnity_n of_o his_o death_n which_o solemnity_n be_v perform_v upon_o
