danger_n which_o be_v therein_o and_o that_o for_o as_o much_o as_o be_v on_o our_o part_n and_o for_o that_o which_o may_v concern_v our_o self_n we_o must_v ever_o desire_v to_o be_v disesteem_v and_o despise_v yet_o for_o some_o good_a end_n of_o the_o great_a service_n of_o god_n the_o honour_n and_o estimation_n of_o the_o world_n may_v lawful_o and_o pious_o be_v desire_v and_o saint_n bernard_n say_v also_o that_o for_o as_o much_o as_o concern_v our_o part_n we_o must_v wish_v that_o man_n may_v think_v and_o esteem_v of_o we_o as_o we_o think_v and_o esteem_v of_o ourselves_o that_o so_o they_o may_v value_v we_o as_o ourselves_o do_v but_o yet_o he_o say_v withal_o that_o it_o be_v not_o fit_v many_o time_n that_o other_o shall_v be_v sure_a thereof_o and_o so_o say_v sometime_o even_o holy_a man_n be_v glad_a that_o they_o have_v good_a opinion_n and_o estimation_n among_o man_n but_o this_o
happen_v when_o they_o find_v that_o it_o be_v a_o necessary_a mean_n for_o the_o do_v good_a and_o give_v help_n to_o their_o neighbour_n soul_n and_o this_o say_v saint_n gregory_n be_v not_o to_o rejoice_v at_o his_o own_o credit_n or_o estimation_n but_o for_o the_o fruit_n and_o good_a of_o his_o neighbour_n which_o be_v a_o very_a different_a case_n it_o be_v one_o thing_n for_o a_o man_n to_o love_v humane_a honour_n and_o estimation_n for_o itself_o and_o to_o dwell_v as_o it_o be_v therein_o for_o his_o own_o respect_n and_o contentment_n that_o so_o he_o may_v grow_v great_a and_o be_v celebrate_v among_o man_n and_o this_o be_v naught_o but_o another_o thing_n it_o be_v when_o this_o be_v like_v for_o some_o good_a end_n as_o for_o the_o good_a of_o our_o neighbour_n and_o to_o give_v help_n to_o soul_n and_o this_o be_v not_o ill_o but_o good_a and_o thus_o we_o may_v well_o desire_v opinion_n and_o estimation_n of_o the_o world_n and_o that_o they_o may_v have_v we_o in_o good_a conceir_n for_o the_o great_a glory_n of_o god_n and_o because_o it_o may_v be_v necessary_a for_o the_o edification_n of_o our_o neighbour_n and_o for_o the_o benefit_n of_o their_o soul_n for_o thus_o a_o man_n shall_v not_o rejoice_v in_o his_o own_o honour_n and_o estimation_n but_o in_o the_o spiritual_a good_a of_o other_o and_o the_o great_a glory_n of_o almighty_a god_n and_o as_o he_o who_o for_o his_o health_n desire_v to_o take_v a_o purge_n which_o he_o natural_o abhor_v may_v well_o say_v that_o to_o admit_v and_o like_o the_o purge_n be_v to_o love_v his_o health_n so_o he_o who_o admit_v and_o like_v humane_a honour_n which_o otherwise_o he_o despise_v only_o because_o in_o that_o case_n it_o be_v a_o necessary_a or_o at_o least_o a_o profitable_a mean_n for_o the_o service_n of_o god_n and_o the_o good_a of_o soul_n may_v affirm_v with_o truth_n that_o he_o desire_v and_o like_v nothing_o in_o it_o but_o the_o glory_n of_o almighty_a god_n but_o let_v we_o now_o consider_v how_o we_o may_v know_v whether_o a_o man_n delight_n in_o honour_n and_o estimation_n for_o the_o mere_a glory_n of_o god_n and_o the_o good_a of_o his_o neighbour_n or_o else_o for_o his_o own_o sake_n and_o for_o the_o affection_n which_o he_o bear_v to_o his_o own_o honour_n for_o this_o indeed_o be_v a_o nice_a point_n wherein_o the_o whole_a difficulty_n of_o this_o business_n consist_v saint_n gregory_n answer_v thus_o our_o be_v glad_a of_o honour_n and_o estimation_n be_v to_o be_v so_o mere_o for_o god_n that_o when_o it_o be_v not_o necessary_a for_o he_o have_v persecute_v the_o church_n of_o god_n and_o still_v himself_o blasphemous_a and_o abortive_a and_o the_o great_a of_o sinner_n and_o when_o the_o occasion_n of_o dishonour_n and_o contempt_n be_v present_v to_o he_o therein_o be_v his_o contentment_n and_o joy_n such_o heart_n as_o these_o we_o may_v well_o trustwith_o receive_v honour_n and_o with_o say_v sometime_o such_o thing_n as_o may_v conduce_v towards_o it_o because_o they_o will_v never_o do_v it_o but_o when_o it_o may_v be_v necessary_a for_o the_o great_a glory_n of_o god_n yea_o and_o even_o then_o they_o do_v it_o so_o much_o without_o the_o stick_n of_o any_o part_n thereof_o to_o themselves_o as_o if_o they_o have_v not_o do_v it_o at_o all_o for_o they_o love_v not_o their_o own_o honour_n but_o
