have_v some_o understanding_n and_o some_o ingenuity_n in_o they_o they_o will_v hearken_v to_o reason_n now_o there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o spiritual_a reason_n in_o the_o word_n there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n to_o convince_v man_n that_o be_v but_o rational_a man_n let_v a_o man_n be_v but_o a_o rational_a man_n and_o willing_a to_o attend_v to_o the_o word_n i_o say_v there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o reason_n to_o convince_v he_o in_o it_o and_o it_o be_v a_o sign_n of_o good_a breed_n of_o man_n of_o ingenuity_n to_o be_v willing_a to_o hear_v the_o word_n who_o be_v those_o in_o a_o parish_n that_o so_o disregard_n the_o word_n as_o not_o to_o hear_v it_o but_o the_o rude_a sort_n there_o be_v many_o i_o confess_v that_o be_v man_n of_o part_n perhaps_o the_o word_n do_v not_o prevail_v with_o their_o heart_n to_o convert_v they_o yet_o if_o they_o have_v any_o good_a breed_n at_o all_o if_o the_o word_n be_v preach_v in_o a_o convince_a way_n so_o that_o they_o see_v there_o be_v pain_n take_v and_o preach_v as_o the_o word_n of_o god_n to_o they_o they_o will_v vouchsafe_v their_o presence_n at_o least_o but_o the_o rude_a multitude_n that_o know_v nothing_o at_o all_o they_o have_v rather_o be_v in_o alehouse_n drink_v and_o swill_v they_o never_o care_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n as_o in_o such_o a_o place_n as_o this_o there_o be_v very_o few_o of_o your_o miserable_a poor_a people_n that_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n what_o place_n be_v there_o full_a of_o miserable_a poor_a people_n than_o this_o place_n be_v and_o yet_o what_o a_o poor_a appearance_n be_v there_o of_o such_o people_n at_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o word_n but_o now_o those_o that_o have_v any_o ingenuity_n in_o they_o at_o all_o or_o any_o breed_n for_o so_o the_o word_n be_v they_o will_v receive_v the_o word_n with_o readiness_n but_o this_o breed_n here_o speak_v of_o be_v a_o little_a high_o than_o natural_a breed_n they_o be_v spiritual_o noble_a and_o so_o they_o have_v a_o readiness_n in_o their_o heart_n in_o receive_v the_o word_n now_o this_o readiness_n of_o heart_n in_o receive_v the_o word_n consist_v in_o these_o particular_n first_o when_o you_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n if_o you_o will_v sanctify_v god_n name_n you_o must_v possess_v your_o soul_n with_o what_o it_o be_v that_o you_o be_v go_v to_o hear_v that_o what_o you_o be_v to_o hear_v be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n that_o it_o be_v not_o the_o speak_n of_o a_o man_n that_o you_o be_v go_v to_o attend_v upon_o but_o that_o you_o be_v now_o go_v to_o attend_v upon_o god_n and_o to_o hear_v the_o word_n of_o the_o eternal_a god_n possess_v your_o soul_n with_o this_o you_o will_v never_o sanctify_v god_n name_n else_o in_o the_o hear_n of_o his_o word_n therefore_o you_o find_v that_o the_o apostle_n write_v to_o the_o thessalonian_o he_o give_v they_o the_o reason_n why_o the_o word_n do_v they_o so_o much_o good_a as_o it_o do_v it_o be_v because_o they_o do_v hear_v it_o as_o the_o word_n of_o god_n 1._o thess_n 2.13_o for_o this_o cause_n also_o say_v he_o thank_v we_o god_n without_o cease_v because_o when_o you_o receive_v the_o word_n of_o god_n which_o you_o hear_v of_o we_o you_o receive_v it_o not_o as_o the_o word_n of_o man_n but_o as_o it_o be_v in_o truth_n the_o word_n of_o god_n which_o effectual_o work_v also_o in_o you_o that_o in_o they_o so_o it_o concern_v you_o that_o hear_v not_o to_o come_v to_o hear_v this_o man_n or_o that_o man_n but_o to_o come_v to_o hear_v jesus_n christ_n we_o as_o the_o ambassador_n of_o christ_n do_v beseech_v you_o say_v the_o apostle_n 2_o possess_v your_o heart_n likewise_o with_o this_o consideration_n that_o i_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n as_o a_o ordinance_n appoint_v by_o god_n to_o convey_v spiritual_a good_a to_o my_o soul_n and_o this_o be_v a_o very_a useful_a consideration_n and_o especial_o it_o concern_v man_n of_o understanding_n and_o part_n for_o the_o help_a of_o they_o to_o hear_v for_o man_n that_o be_v of_o understanding_n and_o part_n when_o they_o come_v to_o hear_v this_o temptation_n be_v ready_a to_o come_v upon_o they_o that_o except_o they_o hear_v some_o new_a thing_n that_o they_o do_v not_o understand_v before_o wherefore_o shall_v they_o come_v i_o be_o able_a to_o understand_v as_o much_o in_o such_o a_o point_n as_o can_v be_v say_v and_o when_o i_o have_v come_v and_o hear_v many_o time_n i_o have_v hear_v but_o that_o i_o know_v before_o and_o upon_o that_o they_o think_v there_o be_v no_o use_n of_o come_v to_o hear_v now_o this_o be_v a_o great_a mistake_n when_o you_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n you_o do_v not_o come_v always_o to_o hear_v what_o you_o do_v not_o know_v it_o may_v be_v sometime_o god_n may_v dart_v in_o some_o thing_n that_o you_o do_v not_o think_v of_o before_o
or_o so_o full_o understand_v but_o suppose_v it_o be_v not_o so_o you_o be_v to_o come_v to_o it_o as_o a_o ordinance_n of_o god_n for_o the_o conveyance_n of_o spiritual_a good_a to_o your_o soul_n you_o will_v say_v can_v we_o fit_v at_o home_n and_o read_v a_o sermon_n but_o have_v god_n appoint_v that_o the_o great_a ordinance_n for_o the_o convert_n and_o the_o edify_n of_o soul_n in_o the_o way_n of_o eternal_a life_n true_o there_o be_v some_o use_n of_o it_o but_o the_o great_a ordinance_n be_v the_o preach_n of_o the_o word_n faith_n come_v by_o hear_v the_o scripture_n say_v and_o never_o by_o read_v so_o that_o though_o when_o you_o come_v to_o hear_v you_o do_v not_o hear_v that_o which_o you_o hear_v not_o before_o yet_o you_o come_v to_o attend_v upon_o this_o ordinance_n for_o the_o conveyance_n of_o some_o spiritual_a good_a that_o it_o may_v be_v have_v not_o be_v convey_v before_o or_o in_o a_o further_a degree_n than_o it_o have_v be_v convey_v before_o and_o so_o you_o shall_v come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n with_o your_o heart_n possess_v with_o that_o meditation_n that_o it_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o the_o great_a ordinance_n that_o god_n have_v appoint_v for_o the_o conveyance_n of_o spiritual_a good_a so_o that_o i_o come_v now_o in_o obedience_n to_o god_n and_o in_o this_o do_v i_o testify_v my_o respect_n to_o god_n that_o i_o will_v attend_v upon_o this_o ordinance_n of_o his_o for_o the_o conveyance_n of_o spiritual_a good_a to_o i_o and_o although_o i_o may_v think_v that_o this_o or_o the_o other_o mean_n may_v do_v the_o deed_n as_o well_o yet_o because_o god_n have_v appoint_v this_o to_o be_v his_o ordinance_n therefore_o in_o obedience_n to_o he_o i_o will_v attend_v upon_o this_o mean_n rather_o than_o upon_o must_v come_v and_o wash_v in_o those_o water_n rather_o than_o in_o any_o other_o so_o because_o preach_v of_o the_o word_n be_v the_o great_a ordinance_n that_o god_n have_v appoint_v for_o to_o convey_v himself_o by_o therefore_o he_o do_v require_v that_o thou_o shall_v show_v thy_o respect_n to_o he_o so_o far_o as_o to_o attend_v upon_o he_o in_o this_o ordinance_n 2_o the_o second_o thing_n that_o be_v to_o be_v do_v in_o way_n of_o preparation_n it_o be_v to_o plough_v up_o the_o fallow_a ground_n of_o your_o heart_n and_o not_o to_o sow_v among_o thorn_n as_o you_o have_v it_o in_o jer._n 4.3_o and_o so_o in_o hos_n 10._o the_o word_n of_o god_n you_o know_v be_v compare_v to_o seed_n in_o that_o parable_n of_o christ_n in_o mat._n 13._o and_o a_o auditory_a be_v compare_v to_o the_o ground_n i_o suppose_v you_o be_v all_o acquaint_v with_o that_o parable_n of_o the_o sour_a that_o it_o be_v to_o set_v out_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n and_o what_o fruit_n it_o have_v upon_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n a_o congregation_n be_v like_o the_o field_n and_o a_o minister_n preach_v be_v like_o the_o sour_a that_o sow_v the_o seed_n in_o the_o field_n he_o know_v not_o which_o truth_n whether_o that_o or_o the_o other_o will_v prosper_v the_o seed_n be_v sow_v in_o some_o part_n of_o the_o ground_n it_o be_v lose_v and_o in_o another_o part_n it_o grow_v so_o in_o one_o pew_n the_o seed_n of_o the_o word_n be_v lose_v and_o in_o another_o pew_n it_o grow_v up_o but_o now_o if_o people_n that_o be_v compare_v to_o the_o ground_n will_v so_o hear_v the_o word_n as_o god_n name_n may_v be_v sanctify_v in_o it_o their_o heart_n must_v be_v plough_v as_o if_o one_o shall_v sow_v seed_n upon_o green_a soil_n sow_v it_o in_o the_o field_n upon_o green_a grass_n what_o will_v become_v of_o it_o the_o ground_n must_v first_o be_v plough_v for_o the_o preparation_n of_o the_o seed_n but_o you_o will_v say_v what_o be_v the_o meaning_n of_o the_o plow_a of_o our_o heart_n for_o the_o preparation_n of_o the_o word_n the_o meaning_n be_v nothing_o else_o but_o this_o the_o work_n of_o humiliation_n the_o humble_v of_o the_o soul_n before_o the_o lord_n when_o it_o do_v come_v to_o hear_v god_n word_n humble_v it_o in_o these_o two_o regard_n first_o be_v humble_v for_o your_o ignorance_n that_o you_o know_v so_o little_a of_o god_n mind_n as_o you_o do_v second_o be_v humble_v for_o all_o the_o sinfulness_n of_o your_o heart_n be_v sensible_a of_o the_o sinfulness_n and_o wretchedness_n of_o your_o heart_n and_o the_o miserable_a conditon_n that_o you_o be_v in_o if_o you_o can_v get_v your_o heart_n break_v with_o the_o sense_n of_o your_o sin_n and_o misery_n and_o come_v so_o to_o hear_v the_o word_n it_o be_v very_o like_o the_o word_n may_v be_v of_o mighty_a use_n and_o god_n name_n may_v be_v very_o much_o sanctify_v in_o your_o hear_n of_o the_o word_n you_o will_v say_v must_v we_o plough_v up_o our_o heart_n before_o we_o come_v to_o hear_v it_o must_v be_v the_o word_n that_o must_v plough_v we_o the_o word_n be_v the_o plough_n and_o so_o the_o minister_n of_o god_n be_v compare_v to_o plowman_n in_o the_o word_n he_o that_o put_v his_o hand_n to_o the_o plough_n and_o look_n back_o be_v not_o fit_a for_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n it_o be_v true_a it_o can_v be_v expect_v that_o the_o heart_n shall_v be_v thorough_o plough_v as_o it_o ought_v but_o by_o the_o word_n therefore_o at_o the_o first_o come_v to_o hear_v there_o be_v not_o hope_v that_o man_n will_v sanctify_v god_n name_n till_o the_o word_n get_v in_o to_o plough_v they_o and_o so_o by_o get_v at_o one_o time_n into_o their_o heart_n they_o come_v to_o be_v prepare_v for_o hear_v at_o another_o time_n and_o yet_o somewhat_o may_v be_v do_v before_o by_o that_o natural_a knowledge_n that_o man_n have_v they_o may_v come_v to_o know_v themselves_o to_o be_v sinner_n and_o come_v to_o understand_v themselves_o to_o be_v very_o weak_a and_o ignorant_a by_o some_o knowledge_n that_o they_o may_v have_v by_o the_o work_n of_o god_n and_o by_o conference_n with_o other_o and_o by_o read_v and_o the_o like_a and_o so_o they_o may_v in_o some_o measure_n come_v to_o have_v their_o heart_n to_o be_v humble_v and_o it_o be_v good_a to_o make_v use_n of_o there_o to_o humble_v the_o heart_n but_o now_o you_o that_o have_v hear_v the_o word_n often_o and_o yet_o have_v not_o sanctify_v god_n name_n there_o be_v truth_n that_o you_o have_v hear_v heretofore_o that_o if_o you_o have_v make_v use_n of_o in_o private_a to_o have_v plough_v up_o your_o heart_n they_o will_v have_v prepare_v your_o heart_n for_o the_o next_o time_n in_o hear_v of_o the_o word_n if_o therefore_o you_o will_v hear_v the_o word_n with_o a_o great_a deal_n more_o profit_n than_o former_o your_o heart_n must_v be_v plough_v by_o humiliation_n 2_o second_o tâ—â—_n heart_n must_v be_v plough_v by_o labour_v to_o get_v out_o those_o thorn_n that_o be_v in_o the_o heart_n those_o lust_n that_o grow_v deep_a in_o the_o heart_n as_o thorn_n grow_v in_o the_o ground_n labour_v to_o pluck_v they_o out_o that_o be_v when_o thou_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n get_v thy_o heart_n into_o that_o frame_n as_o to_o be_v willing_a to_o profess_v against_o every_o know_a in_o that_o thou_o have_v find_v in_o thy_o heart_n labour_v to_o find_v out_o those_o lust_n that_o be_v in_o thy_o heart_n and_o then_o profess_v against_o they_o that_o thou_o be_v willing_a to_o have_v they_o to_o be_v roâ—tâ—d_v out_o of_o thy_o heart_n if_o man_n and_o woman_n will_v but_o do_v thus_o when_o they_o come_v to_o bear_v that_o god_n may_v see_v this_o in_o they_o that_o they_o have_v before_o they_o come_v profess_v gâ—â—nâ—t_v every_o know_a sin_n this_o will_v be_v a_o execellent_a thing_n indeed_o 3_o again_o in_o the_o three_o place_n which_o will_v follow_v from_o hence_o when_o thou_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n come_v with_o a_o resolution_n to_o yield_v to_o what_o ever_o god_n shall_v reveal_v to_o be_v his_o mind_n i_o be_o now_o go_v to_o hear_v thy_o word_n o_o lord_n to_o wait_v upon_o thou_o to_o know_v what_o thou_o have_v to_o say_v to_o i_o and_o thou_o that_o be_v the_o searcher_n
though_o the_o word_n have_v be_v apply_v again_o and_o again_o to_o your_o heart_n and_o nothing_o will_v stick_v i_o remember_v it_o be_v a_o expression_n of_o one_o in_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o terror_n of_o conscience_n many_o come_v to_o apply_v comfortable_a scripture_n to_o he_o and_o he_o himself_o for_o a_o while_o do_v take_v those_o scripture_n and_o lay_v they_o upon_o his_o heart_n to_o pacify_v his_o trouble_a conscience_n but_o a_o little_a before_o he_o die_v he_o cry_v out_o with_o a_o most_o fearful_a terror_n there_o be_v a_o fair_a plaster_n make_v but_o it_o will_v not_o stick_v on_o it_o will_v not_o stick_v on_o so_o die_v despair_v so_o there_o be_v in_o the_o word_n such_o a_o plaster_n as_o may_v help_v a_o wound_a and_o trouble_a conscience_n but_o can_v thou_o expect_v that_o have_v not_o sanctify_a god_n name_v in_o thy_o life_n time_n that_o it_o shall_v stick_v upon_o thy_o soul_n in_o the_o day_n of_o thy_o affliction_n never_o expect_v it_o for_o the_o lord_n have_v say_v otherwise_o prov._n 1_o because_o when_o i_o cry_v and_o call_v you_o will_v not_o hear_v you_o shall_v cry_v and_o call_v and_o i_o will_v not_o hear_v the_o lord_n in_o his_o word_n cry_v to_o thou_o oh_o thou_o sinful_a soul_n who_o be_v go_v on_o in_o the_o way_n of_o sin_n and_o eternal_a destruction_n return_v return_n that_o be_v the_o way_n that_o will_v bring_v to_o worship_n god_n how_o quick_o be_v thou_o tire_v now_o what_o will_v thou_o do_v in_o heaven_n where_o there_o be_v nothing_o else_o do_v to_o all_o eternity_n but_o worship_v of_o god_n and_o then_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v delightful_a to_o god_n that_o thou_o shall_v come_v nigh_o he_o there_o be_v nothing_o in_o the_o world_n more_o pleasant_a to_o god_n then_o to_o have_v his_o saint_n come_v into_o his_o presence_n what_o do_v a_o father_n more_o delight_n in_o than_o to_o have_v his_o child_n about_o he_o never_o do_v any_o father_n or_o mother_n love_v to_o have_v their_o child_n by_o they_o so_o as_o god_n love_v to_o have_v his_o child_n come_v nigh_o he_o and_o be_v often_o with_o he_o and_o the_o truth_n be_v one_o great_a reason_n that_o god_n suffer_v you_o to_o fall_v they_o can_v come_v together_o that_o they_o be_v sure_a it_o be_v not_o through_o any_o neglect_n than_o it_o will_v not_o damp_n their_o friendship_n but_o when_o they_o be_v near_o and_o come_v not_o one_o to_o another_o than_o they_o think_v it_o be_v out_o of_o neglect_n and_o so_o they_o grow_v strange_a so_o it_o be_v with_o the_o soul_n if_o there_o be_v no_o possibility_n of_o a_o come_n into_o god_n presence_n than_o it_o will_v not_o hinder_v the_o sweetness_n of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n to_o we_o but_o now_o when_o we_o have_v those_o duty_n of_o worship_n wherein_o we_o may_v draw_v nigh_o to_o god_n if_o we_o neglect_v they_o our_o familiarity_n with_o god_n will_v quick_o be_v lose_v acquaint_v thyself_o with_o god_n and_o be_v at_o peace_n god_n be_v willing_a to_o be_v acquaint_v with_o his_o servant_n the_o lord_n love_v to_o be_v familiar_a with_o the_o poor_a of_o his_o saint_n and_o will_v not_o thou_o maintain_v that_o sweet_a familiarity_n with_o god_n these_o two_o benefit_n will_v follow_v upon_o thy_o familiarity_n with_o god_n first_o those_o that_o be_v most_o familiar_a with_o god_n they_o be_v most_o potent_a with_o god_n as_o now_o a_o stranger_n can_v prevail_v in_o any_o petition_n so_o as_o a_o familiar_a friend_n can_v thus_o my_o brethren_n when_o stranger_n come_v into_o god_n presence_n god_n do_v not_o so_o much_o regard_v they_o but_o when_o his_o familiar_n come_v into_o his_o presence_n the_o saint_n of_o god_n that_o keep_v close_o with_o he_o in_o constant_a communion_n and_o converse_n in_o the_o duty_n of_o his_o worship_n god_n do_v take_v they_o as_o his_o familiar_a friend_n and_o they_o will_v prevail_v much_o with_o god_n second_o by_o this_o mean_v the_o terror_n of_o death_n will_v be_v take_v away_o there_o be_v no_o such_o way_n to_o take_v off_o the_o terror_n of_o the_o thought_n of_o death_n as_o by_o keep_v familiarity_n with_o god_n death_n then_o be_v joyful_a to_o those_o that_o converse_v with_o he_o that_o reverend_a divine_a that_o be_v now_o with_o god_n doctor_n preston_n when_o he_o be_v to_o die_v he_o have_v this_o speech_n i_o shall_v but_o change_v my_o place_n i_o have_v converse_v with_o all_o thy_o day_n and_o then_o what_o safety_n be_v there_o in_o be_v near_o to_o god_n especial_o in_o these_o dangerous_a time_n in_o the_o time_n wherein_o we_o live_v it_o duty_n that_o we_o be_v set_v about_o the_o nature_n of_o it_o the_o manner_n how_o it_o be_v to_o be_v perform_v the_o rule_n by_o which_o we_o be_v to_o be_v guide_v the_o end_n that_o we_o be_v to_o aim_v at_o meditation_n be_v a_o good_a preparation_n to_o holy_a duty_n and_o these_o be_v the_o general_a head_n of_o our_o i_n ditation_n for_o our_o preparation_n to_o duty_n viz._n what_o god_n he_o be_v we_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o meditate_v of_o god_n n_o his_o attribute_n and_o then_o meditate_v of_o the_o weight_n of_o our_o duty_n and_o the_o nature_n of_o they_o and_o the_o rule_n of_o they_o and_o the_o end_n of_o they_o get_v your_o heart_n possess_v with_o meditation_n of_o this_o nature_n and_o in_o this_o as_o a_o special_a thing_n do_v consist_v your_o preparation_n to_o holy_a duty_n and_o that_o be_v the_o first_o thing_n 2_o the_o second_o thing_n wherein_o the_o preparation_n to_o a_o duty_n consist_v it_o be_v in_o this_o in_o the_o take_n off_o of_o the_o heart_n from_o every_o sinful_a way_n the_o endeavour_n at_o least_o if_o there_o be_v iniquity_n in_o thy_o hand_n or_o heart_n labour_v to_o put_v it_o out_o when_o thou_o be_v come_v into_o god_n presence_n do_v not_o bring_v into_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n the_o love_n of_o any_o sin_n in_o thy_o heart_n but_o labour_v to_o put_v it_o from_o thy_o heart_n in_o 2_o chron._n 29.5_o we_o find_v there_o what_o be_v require_v to_o preparation_n the_o text_n say_v hezekiah_n say_v unto_o they_o hear_v i_o you_o levite_n sanctify_v now_o yourselves_o and_o sanctify_v the_o house_n of_o the_o lord_n god_n of_o your_o father_n and_o carry_v forth_o the_o filthiness_n out_o of_o the_o holy_a place_n that_o be_v sanctify_v a_o thing_n to_o carry_v forth_o the_o heart_n the_o separate_n of_o it_o for_o such_o a_o work_n for_o that_o be_v the_o nature_n of_o sanctification_n the_o separate_n of_o a_o thing_n from_o a_o common_a use_n i_o be_o to_o worship_n god_n now_o i_o must_v labour_v to_o separate_v my_o heart_n from_o a_o common_a use_n at_o other_o time_n god_n give_v i_o liberty_n to_o let_v out_o my_o heart_n to_o common_a use_n but_o now_o when_o i_o come_v to_o worship_v he_o i_o must_v separate_v my_o heart_n from_o all_o common_a use_n that_o my_o heart_n may_v be_v whole_o for_o god_n i_o remember_v it_o be_v say_v in_o the_o story_n of_o sicily_n which_o be_v lord-treasurer_n that_o when_o he_o go_v to_o read_v he_o will_v lay_v his_o gown_n off_o and_o say_v lie_v there_o lord_n sicily_n so_o when_o we_o go_v to_o duty_n be_v holy_a you_o will_v say_v why_o may_v not_o any_o time_n be_v say_v to_o be_v holy_a that_o i_o spend_v in_o holy_a duty_n no_o that_o be_v not_o enough_o to_o make_v time_n holy_a for_o the_o time_n that_o god_n make_v holy_a it_o be_v not_o holy_a because_o of_o the_o duty_n that_o i_o perform_v in_o it_o but_o the_o duty_n that_o i_o perform_v then_o be_v more_o acceptable_a because_o they_o be_v do_v in_o such_o a_o time_n and_o so_o that_o make_v a_o place_n holy_a not_o because_o it_o be_v appoint_v for_o holy_a duty_n and_o use_n but_o because_o it_o be_v so_o appoint_v by_o god_n and_o the_o perform_v a_o duty_n in_o that_o place_n be_v more_o acceptable_a to_o god_n than_o in_o another_o place_n but_o now_o though_o we_o can_v make_v our_o time_n holy_a in_o that_o second_o sense_n yet_o in_o the_o first_o it_o be_v time_n set_v apart_o for_o a_o holy_a use_n and_o in_o that_o
that_o be_v there_o must_v not_o be_v a_o heart_n and_o a_o heart_n there_o must_v not_o be_v a_o compound_a heart_n but_o you_o must_v bring_v simple_a heart_n before_o god_n without_o any_o composition_n of_o dross_n in_o yourselves_o and_o of_o any_o kind_n of_o falseness_n but_o in_o the_o simplicity_n of_o your_o heart_n you_o must_v come_v to_o worship_n god_n and_o thus_o you_o shall_v worship_v he_o with_o such_o worship_n as_o be_v some_o way_n suitable_a to_o he_o as_o he_o be_v a_o spirit_n 2_o further_n consider_v god_n as_o he_o be_v a_o eternal_a god_n what_o suitable_a disposition_n do_v this_o require_v of_o i_o when_o i_o be_o to_o look_v upon_o god_n as_o a_o eternal_a be_v it_o require_v this_o only_a that_o therefore_o thy_o heart_n must_v be_v take_v off_o from_o all_o temporal_a good_a thing_n and_o set_v upon_o that_o eternal_a good_a thou_o may_v indeed_o desire_v these_o outward_a good_a thing_n but_o in_o order_n to_o thy_o eternal_a though_o a_o long_a time_n since_o commit_v as_o if_o they_o be_v but_o now_o do_v likewise_o there_o will_v be_v this_o require_v from_o the_o consideration_n of_o god_n eternity_n you_o must_v come_v with_o such_o a_o disposition_n of_o heart_n as_o not_o to_o think_v much_o though_o what_o you_o desire_v be_v defer_v and_o not_o grant_v in_o your_o time_n when_o you_o will_v have_v it_o for_o if_o there_o be_v no_o time_n that_o alter_v with_o god_n but_o a_o thousand_o year_n be_v with_o god_n as_o one_o day_n then_o that_o that_o we_o account_v long_o before_o it_o be_v do_v it_o be_v nothing_o with_o god_n and_o therefore_o we_o must_v have_v our_o heart_n so_o work_v towards_o god_n as_o towards_o a_o eternal_a god_n as_o one_o with_o who_o there_o be_v no_o alteration_n of_o time_n at_o all_o with_o who_o there_o be_v no_o succession_n of_o time_n if_o we_o come_v to_o a_o man_n and_o seek_v any_o thing_n of_o he_o if_o he_o do_v not_o answer_v we_o present_o we_o will_v think_v that_o he_o will_v forget_v it_o and_o other_o thing_n will_v come_v into_o his_o mind_n but_o when_o we_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n we_o must_v look_v upon_o he_o as_o a_o eternal_a be_v and_o that_o time_n alter_v nothing_o with_o he_o thus_o understanding_n god_n in_o a_o right_a way_n will_v much_o help_v we_o in_o his_o worship_n and_o to_o sanctify_v his_o name_n we_o can_v sanctify_v god_n name_n without_o know_v his_o name_n without_o have_v serious_a thought_n about_o his_o name_n and_o get_v our_o heart_n to_o work_v according_o 3_o three_o look_v upon_o god_n when_o you_o come_v to_o worship_v he_o in_o his_o incomprehensible_a be_v that_o be_v as_o a_o god_n that_o fill_v all_o place_n his_o be_v be_v as_o real_a in_o the_o room_n that_o we_o be_v pray_v in_o the_o place_n that_o we_o be_v meet_v in_o as_o it_o be_v in_o heaven_n now_o then_o when_o we_o come_v to_o worship_v he_o we_o must_v consider_v that_o that_o infinite_a glorious_a be_v stand_v before_o we_o look_v upon_o we_o be_v at_o our_o elbow_n and_o therefore_o especial_o when_o you_o worship_n in_o secret_n consider_v this_o it_o be_v good_a to_o consider_v it_o when_o you_o be_v with_o other_o but_o especial_o i_o say_v consider_v it_o when_o you_o be_v in_o secret_a and_o know_v that_o when_o you_o be_v most_o private_a you_o have_v one_o that_o look_v on_o you_o and_z god_n be_v our_o our_o trade_a time_n for_o heaven_n that_o be_v sad_a indeed_o and_o yet_o thou_o that_o make_v not_o conscience_n of_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o holy_a duty_n all_o the_o time_n thou_o have_v spend_v be_v lose_v and_o yet_o further_o you_o that_o have_v be_v false_a in_o the_o performance_n of_o duty_n and_o hypocrite_n not_o only_o all_o your_o pain_n and_o labour_n be_v quite_o lose_v for_o if_o that_o be_v so_o it_o may_v be_v well_o with_o you_o but_o you_o have_v aggravate_v your_o sin_n by_o your_o holy_a duty_n those_o duty_n that_o other_o have_v enjoy_v communion_n with_o god_n in_o and_o further_v their_o eternal_a life_n by_o thou_o have_v aggravate_v thy_o sin_n by_o they_o yet_o it_o be_v thy_o duty_n to_o do_v they_o but_o i_o say_v by_o not_o sanctify_v of_o god_n name_n thou_o have_v aggravate_v thy_o sin_n so_o much_o the_o more_o as_o those_o that_o be_v godly_a they_o work_v out_o their_o salvation_n even_o in_o their_o natural_a action_n they_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o eat_v and_o drink_v and_o follow_v their_o business_n they_o perform_v those_o action_n in_o such_o a_o holy_a manner_n as_o they_o honour_v god_n in_o they_o and_o further_o their_o eternal_a peace_n but_o as_o they_o in_o their_o natural_a and_o civil_a action_n work_v out_o their_o salvation_n so_o thou_o in_o the_o very_o religious_a action_n do_v work_v out_o thy_o damnation_n certain_o wicked_a man_n that_o be_v not_o acquaint_v with_o this_o work_n of_o godliness_n to_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n they_o work_v out_o their_o damnation_n even_o in_o the_o performance_n of_o they_o you_o will_v say_v then_o they_o have_v better_a not_o do_v they_o yes_o they_o be_v bind_v to_o do_v they_o but_o they_o be_v bind_v that_o a_o prince_n shall_v appoint_v a_o man_n to_o come_v into_o his_o presence_n such_o a_o day_n to_o petition_v for_o his_o life_n which_o he_o have_v forfeit_v by_o the_o law_n if_o he_o do_v not_o come_v he_o may_v be_v a_o dead_a man_n but_o now_o if_o this_o man_n be_v drink_v on_o that_o day_n and_o come_v drink_v into_o the_o king_n presence_n he_o may_v be_v a_o dead_a man_n too_o for_o presume_v to_o come_v drink_v before_o he_o so_o wicked_a and_o ungodly_a man_n whether_o they_o worship_v or_o worship_v not_o they_o be_v in_o danger_n to_o perish_v but_o of_o this_o more_o when_o we_o come_v to_o show_v that_o god_n will_v be_v sanctify_v in_o the_o four_o place_n here_o be_v a_o use_n of_o exhortation_n that_o see_v we_o have_v this_o truth_n thus_o present_v to_o we_o fit_a yet_o the_o truth_n be_v it_o concern_v the_o church_n as_o well_o to_o look_v who_o come_v there_o and_o likewise_o the_o minister_n i_o say_v to_o look_v about_o he_o that_o he_o do_v not_o say_v the_o body_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n be_v give_v to_o thou_o when_o he_o know_v they_o be_v profane_a and_o wicked_a it_o concern_v the_o minister_n to_o look_v that_o he_o do_v not_o tell_v a_o lie_n but_o now_o when_o the_o minister_n give_v it_o general_o to_o the_o church_n take_v eat_v and_o take_v drink_v he_o give_v it_o particular_o to_o no_o body_n now_o than_o his_o charge_n be_v divide_v to_o the_o church_n and_o if_o there_o be_v any_o body_n that_o be_v unworthy_a let_v the_o church_n look_v to_o it_o as_o well_o as_o he_o though_o he_o as_o a_o eminent_a officer_n it_o be_v more_o especial_o in_o particular_a his_o duty_n then_o any_o other_o heretofore_o the_o charge_n will_v lie_v much_o upon_o the_o minister_n but_o the_o minister_n according_a to_o the_o institution_n shall_v give_v the_o sacrament_n to_o no_o particular_a but_o in_o general_a to_o the_o church_n and_o therefore_o if_o there_o be_v but_o any_o particular_a that_o the_o minister_n upon_o a_o particular_a knowledge_n do_v know_v to_o be_v naught_o he_o may_v in_o great_a part_n discharge_v himself_o as_o profess_v against_o this_o or_o that_o particular_a man_n for_o see_v a_o enemy_n and_o be_v aware_a of_o he_o he_o be_v very_o diligent_a to_o observe_v how_o to_o avoid_v he_o so_o there_o shall_v be_v as_o much_o diligence_n to_o get_v good_a by_o the_o word_n as_o one_o will_v be_v diligent_a to_o avoid_v any_o danger_n whatsoever_o and_o the_o word_n signify_v sometime_o to_o give_v such_o heed_n as_o a_o disciple_n give_v unto_o his_o master_n so_o they_o give_v need_n to_o the_o word_n so_o in_o pro._n 2.1_o 2._o my_o son_n if_o thou_o will_v receive_v my_o word_n and_o hide_v my_o commandment_n with_o thou_o so_o that_o thou_o incline_v thy_o eaâ—e_n unto_o wisdom_n we_o must_v diligent_o attend_v and_o not_o to_o suffer_v our_o eye_n and_o our_o thought_n to_o be_v wander_v but_o diligent_o attend_v to_o what_o be_v say_v my_o brethren_n there_o be_v all_o thing_n that_o may_v challenge_v attention_n in_o the_o word_n what_o will_v make_v you_o to_o attend_v to_o any_o thing_n first_o if_o he_o that_o speak_v be_v much_o above_o you_o if_o it_o be_v a_o great_a prince_n or_o lord_n that_o speak_v to_o you_o than_o you_o will_v attend_v now_o though_o it_o be_v true_a it_o be_v but_o a_o man_n that_o it_o may_v be_v be_v inferior_a to_o most_o of_o you_o that_o speak_v yet_o know_v in_o he_o it_o be_v the_o lord_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n that_o speak_v to_o you_o and_o so_o you_o know_v what_o christ_n say_v he_o that_o hear_v you_o hear_v i_o so_o though_o you_o will_v not_o attend_v in_o respect_n of_o the_o messenger_n so_o much_o yet_o as_o it_o be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n that_o be_v speak_v to_o you_o it_o may_v challenge_v your_o attention_n this_o day_n if_o you_o shall_v hear_v a_o voice_n out_o of_o the_o cloud_n from_o heaven_n speak_v to_o you_o will_v you_o not_o then_o listen_v the_o truth_n be_v we_o shall_v listen_v as_o much_o to_o the_o voice_n of_o god_n in_o the_o ministry_n of_o his_o word_n as_o if_o so_o be_v
