let_v we_o mark_v they_o they_o go_v out_o from_o we_o say_v he_o but_o they_o be_v not_o of_o we_o for_o if_o they_o have_v be_v of_o we_o they_o shall_v have_v continue_v with_o us._n but_o this_o do_v grieve_v we_o &_o possess_v our_o heart_n with_o fear_n why_o shall_v not_o the_o fruit_n of_o our_o faith_n and_o obedience_n which_o be_v from_o god_n yield_v we_o comfort_v &_o fill_v our_o heart_n with_o hope_n not_o because_o they_o be_v in_o we_o for_o so_o we_o do_v many_o time_n weaken_v they_o at_o the_o jest_n if_o not_o impair_v or_o hurt_v they_o but_o as_o they_o be_v in_o we_o from_o god_n who_o we_o be_v sure_o will_v accept_v of_o his_o own_o good_a work_n and_o grace_n vouchsafe_v unto_o us._n last_o i_o say_v that_o as_o we_o abstain_v not_o from_o meat_n and_o drink_v and_o other_o necessary_a aide_n of_o natural_a life_n because_o we_o know_v that_o the_o term_n and_o time_n of_o the_o say_a life_n be_v limit_v by_o god_n so_o there_o be_v no_o man_n unless_o he_o place_n out_o of_o the_o first_o chapter_n of_o his_o second_o epistle_n verse_n 10._o where_o he_o say_v wherefore_o brethren_n give_v rather_o diligence_n to_o make_v your_o call_n and_o election_n sure_a therefore_o say_v they_o the_o faithful_a can_v be_v assure_v of_o their_o salvation_n but_o we_o say_v this_o be_v ill_o infer_v and_o as_o we_o shall_v hear_v anon_o no_o such_o thing_n to_o be_v gather_v from_o it_o but_o the_o contrary_a rather_o all_o doctrine_n must_v be_v gather_v either_o from_o the_o general_a scope_n of_o the_o place_n or_o from_o the_o particular_a word_n jesus_n christ_n yet_o as_o in_o regard_n either_o of_o the_o daily_a increase_v of_o it_o through_o the_o powerful_a work_n of_o god_n holy_a spirit_n or_o the_o cool_n or_o weaken_v of_o it_o by_o the_o remainder_n of_o our_o own_o sin_n or_o satan_n malice_n against_o we_o we_o may_v be_v say_v sometime_o to_o be_v strong_a and_o sometime_o to_o be_v weak_a in_o it_o and_o sometime_o to_o grow_v in_o it_o and_o sometime_o to_o be_v at_o a_o stand_n as_o it_o be_v and_o this_o be_v that_o that_o the_o apostle_n say_v the_o just_a proceed_v from_o faith_n to_o faith_n and_o again_o the_o spirit_n of_o and_o withstand_v satan_n say_v who_o resist_v strong_a in_o faith_n as_o also_o this_o that_o the_o apostle_n saint_n paul_n say_v of_o abraham_n the_o father_n of_o the_o faithful_a and_o friend_n of_o god_n that_o he_o not_o weak_a in_o faith_n etc._n etc._n roman_n the_o four_o yea_o one_o and_o the_o self_n same_o godly_a man_n as_o in_o respect_n of_o sundry_a time_n and_o diverse_a occasion_n may_v be_v say_v to_o be_v strong_a in_o this_o holy_a virtue_n and_o weak_a also_o what_o a_o faith_n be_v this_o in_o peter_n by_o christ_n comfortable_a word_n not_o only_o to_o expel_v fear_n but_o in_o the_o strength_n and_o power_n of_o christ_n speech_n unto_o he_o and_o say_n come_v to_o walk_v upon_o the_o water_n and_o yet_o what_o weakness_n be_v this_o in_o see_v of_o a_o wind_n to_o be_v afraid_a etc._n etc._n god_n make_v we_o in_o he_o to_o behold_v this_o truth_n that_o while_o we_o look_v upon_o he_o through_o christ_n we_o be_v strong_a and_o bold_a as_o a_o lion_n but_o when_o we_o leave_v upon_o ourselves_o or_o the_o arm_n of_o flesh_n and_o blood_n or_o regard_v calamity_n we_o be_v as_o weak_a as_o water_n and_o ready_a to_o sink_v therefore_o in_o the_o maior_fw-la proposition_n we_o may_v well_o and_o easy_o perceive_v that_o they_o neither_o deal_v plain_o with_o the_o cause_n for_o as_o in_o that_o behalf_n they_o shall_v not_o have_v use_v infirmity_n or_o weakness_n of_o faith_n but_o doubt_v because_o the_o question_n be_v not_o of_o weakness_n and_o want_n in_o god_n saint_n which_o they_o carry_v about_o with_o they_o not_o only_o in_o their_o faith_n but_o in_o all_o other_o good_a grace_n beside_o but_o of_o doubt_v and_o distrustfulness_n which_o indeed_o be_v wickedness_n and_o evil_n these_o two_o differ_v as_o much_o as_o good_a and_o bad_a light_a and_o darkness_n and_o that_o not_o only_o in_o their_o manner_n and_o nature_n but_o in_o their_o effect_n also_o weakness_n work_v in_o we_o run_v unto_o god_n for_o strength_n and_o doubt_v drive_v we_o for_o the_o time_n and_o in_o some_o measure_n from_o he_o to_o other_o that_o indeed_o can_v not_o steed_n we_o though_o it_o may_v be_v we_o may_v deem_v otherwise_o i_o say_v they_o neither_o deal_v plain_o with_o the_o cause_n itself_o nor_o with_o the_o truth_n of_o religion_n and_o the_o word_n for_o faith_n or_o confidence_n in_o god_n through_o jesus_n christ_n whether_o it_o be_v firm_a or_o unfirme_v strong_a or_o weak_a may_v be_v assure_v and_o certain_o determine_v concern_v god_n grace_n forgiveness_n of_o sin_n and_o eternal_a salvation_n though_o not_o as_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o strength_n or_o certainty_n of_o itself_o yet_o as_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o strength_n power_n and_o assurance_n of_o the_o object_n whereabout_o it_o be_v occupy_v to_o wit_n god_n mercy_n manifest_v in_o his_o son_n jesus_n christ_n and_o declare_v by_o the_o sweet_a and_o comfortable_a promise_n of_o the_o word_n the_o reason_n be_v because_o faith_n though_o weak_a do_v lay_v hold_n of_o as_o much_o and_o appropriate_a or_o apply_v as_o much_o as_o a_o firm_a or_o strong_a faith_n that_o be_v jesus_n christ_n whole_o with_o all_o his_o benefit_n and_o merit_n though_o it_o do_v not_o so_o strong_o or_o as_o we_o may_v say_v somewhat_o more_o weak_o apprehend_v and_o apply_v he_o so_o that_o the_o difference_n be_v not_o in_o the_o certainty_n and_o assurance_n of_o faith_n for_o he_o that_o be_v weak_a therein_o may_v for_o 〈◊〉_d measure_n be_v as_o well_o and_o certain_o assure_v as_o he_o that_o be_v strong_a but_o for_o the_o manner_n or_o measure_n of_o apprehend_v or_o apply_v jesus_n christ_n therefore_o as_o he_o that_o lay_v fast_o hold_v of_o a_o thing_n though_o it_o be_v but_o weak_a or_o feeble_a be_v yet_o for_o himself_o as_o well_o assure_v
work_n of_o righteous_a man_n indeed_o be_v in_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n and_o yet_o that_o they_o can_v now_o know_v whether_o they_o be_v belove_v of_o god_n or_o no_o and_o that_o they_o be_v this_o place_n of_o jerome_n we_o answer_v that_o be_v speak_v here_o not_o of_o that_o judgement_n which_o be_v to_o be_v give_v or_o gather_v out_o of_o god_n word_n general_o and_o more_o particular_o out_o of_o the_o promise_n thereof_o upon_o which_o indeed_o both_o for_o the_o remove_n of_o doubt_v and_o the_o better_a assurance_n of_o their_o own_o heart_n god_n child_n do_v comfortable_o rely_v and_o stay_v themselves_o but_o of_o that_o judgement_n which_o be_v or_o may_v be_v take_v from_o the_o present_a distress_a estate_n or_o affliction_n of_o man_n special_o of_o the_o godly_a from_o which_o because_o god_n afflict_v or_o strike_v they_o for_o diverse_a and_o sundry_a cause_n best_o know_v unto_o his_o wisdom_n as_o to_o try_v their_o faith_n to_o prove_v their_o patience_n to_o make_v his_o strength_n to_o appear_v and_o be_v make_v perfect_a in_o their_o weakness_n etc._n etc._n there_o can_v be_v no_o certain_a conclusion_n make_v or_o judgement_n give_v and_o it_o seem_v to_o i_o that_o he_o mean_v no_o other_o thing_n but_o that_o which_o ecclesiastes_n or_o the_o preacher_n himself_o do_v namely_o that_o by_o the_o outward_a event_n and_o success_n of_o thing_n we_o can_v certain_o conclude_v or_o know_v touch_v the_o love_n or_o hatred_n of_o god_n towards_o us._n this_o be_v my_o meaning_n that_o he_o speak_v not_o here_o of_o every_o knowledge_n or_o ignorance_n of_o the_o love_n or_o hatred_n of_o god_n or_o of_o all_o the_o mean_n whereby_o these_o thing_n may_v be_v manifest_v or_o discern_v but_o of_o that_o only_a and_o simple_o which_o be_v to_o be_v feel_v or_o draw_v from_o the_o present_a event_n or_o success_n of_o affliction_n or_o punishment_n which_o may_v appear_v not_o only_o by_o the_o reason_n before_o allege_v because_o god_n have_v so_o many_o end_n which_o he_o aim_v at_o in_o the_o strike_n of_o his_o people_n but_o even_o by_o jeromes_n own_a word_n if_o they_o be_v well_o weigh_v or_o else_o why_o do_v he_o so_o much_o mention_v endure_v and_o suffer_v for_o trial_n or_o punishment_n and_o allege_v to_o that_o end_n the_o love_n of_o god_n job_n example_n etc._n etc._n to_o which_o we_o may_v add_v this_o that_o no_o doubt_n but_o jerome_n know_v this_o truth_n also_o that_o though_o there_o be_v in_o man_n even_o in_o the_o best_a man_n matter_n sufficient_a to_o move_v god_n answer_v further_o thus_o namely_o that_o he_o speak_v not_o of_o or_o against_o the_o assurance_n of_o faith_n but_o of_o the_o trouble_n that_o many_o time_n the_o more_o simple_a sort_n have_v in_o themselves_o by_o that_o same_o equal_a state_n as_o in_o regard_n of_o outward_a thing_n special_o that_o be_v between_o the_o good_a &_o the_o bad_a and_o this_o may_v sufficient_o enough_o appear_v even_o by_o such_o word_n as_o jerome_n himself_o afterward_o add_v say_v such_o thing_n as_o of_o themselves_o be_v neither_o good_a nor_o evil_a but_o be_v call_v by_o the_o wise_a man_n of_o this_o temptation_n that_o fall_v upon_o job_n and_o upon_o david_n psal_n 37._o and_o upon_o jeremie_n jere._n 12._o and_o be_v describe_v in_o these_o place_n concern_v the_o outward_a felicity_n of_o the_o wicked_a and_o the_o misery_n of_o the_o godly_a they_o both_o may_v and_o be_v wont_a to_o rejoice_v in_o affliction_n as_o we_o may_v perceive_v both_o by_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o word_n rom._n 5._o and_o by_o the_o example_n of_o it_o also_o act._n 14._o and_o 16._o yea_o even_o those_o before_o name_v david_n job_n and_o jeremie_n and_o they_o that_o be_v or_o may_v be_v trouble_v as_o they_o be_v though_o in_o and_o for_o the_o time_n of_o their_o temptation_n they_o do_v it_o not_o yet_o afterward_o they_o believe_v as_o the_o rest_n of_o god_n people_n and_o rejoice_v as_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o saint_n in_o their_o faith_n and_o hope_n 4_o four_o they_o bring_v out_o of_o hierome_n certain_a word_n that_o he_o have_v upon_o the_o four_o chap._n of_o daniel_n prophecy_n say_v when_o daniel_n that_o foreknow_v of_o thing_n to_o come_v doubt_v concern_v the_o judgement_n of_o god_n say_v it_o may_v be_v god_n will_v pardon_v thy_o sin_n sure_o they_o must_v some_o except_a further_o &_o say_v that_o paul_n and_o the_o apostle_n in_o the_o place_n above_o mention_v speak_v of_o that_o certainty_n of_o their_o own_o salvation_n which_o they_o have_v by_o special_a revelation_n and_o not_o that_o they_o affirm_v that_o all_o the_o faithful_a have_v the_o like_a assurance_n but_o the_o answer_n be_v easy_a the_o apostle_n do_v or_o do_v not_o speak_v only_o of_o themselves_o but_o of_o all_o the_o faithful_a and_o not_o of_o their_o own_o faith_n and_o salvation_n only_o but_o of_o
bounty_n of_o god_n in_o his_o promise_n which_o god_n will_v have_v we_o as_o we_o may_v perceive_v by_o by_o his_o command_v of_o we_o to_o believe_v to_o give_v free_a and_o full_a consent_n unto_o as_o for_o the_o condition_n they_o speak_v of_o we_o tell_v they_o that_o be_v adjoin_v to_o the_o promise_n not_o as_o to_o make_v the_o promise_n more_o strong_a in_o themselves_o or_o as_o in_o further_o that_o if_o many_o a_o compassionate_a man_n in_o the_o world_n do_v not_o take_v all_o advantage_n of_o breach_n of_o covenant_n or_o condition_n that_o another_o have_v make_v with_o he_o be_v certify_v or_o assure_v of_o god_n grace_n and_o his_o own_o salvation_n but_o therein_o only_o require_v at_o our_o hand_n faith_n and_o repentance_n both_o which_o grace_n as_o all_o other_o fruit_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v in_o some_o more_o and_o in_o some_o less_o according_a to_o the_o measure_n thereof_o give_v unto_o man_n from_o god_n and_o this_o may_v appear_v because_o christ_n simple_o and_o plain_o say_v he_o that_o believe_v in_o i_o have_v everlasting_a life_n not_o express_v how_o much_o or_o how_o little_a faith_n be_v requisite_a to_o that_o work_n so_o it_o be_v in_o the_o memory_n and_o sight_n of_o they_o to_o throw_v we_o down_o to_o damnation_n no_o very_o satan_n indeed_o set_v they_o before_o we_o to_o that_o purpose_n but_o god_n do_v it_o to_o humble_v we_o in_o ourselves_o before_o he_o and_o to_o add_v a_o edge_n unto_o our_o supplication_n and_o prayer_n that_o so_o they_o may_v be_v more_o pierce_a than_o otherwise_o and_o this_o we_o may_v see_v in_o paul_n who_o say_v of_o himself_o that_o lest_o he_o shall_v be_v puff_v up_o through_o abundance_n or_o excellency_n of_o revelation_n there_o be_v give_v unto_o he_o a_o prick_n in_o the_o flesh_n and_o satan_n as_o a_o angel_n to_o buffet_v he_o and_o for_o the_o remove_n of_o they_o he_o pray_v the_o lord_n thrice_o &_o yet_o receive_v no_o other_o answer_n but_o this_o god_n grace_n be_v sufficient_a for_o he_o and_o the_o lord_n strength_n shall_v be_v perfect_v through_o man_n weakness_n yea_o this_o be_v that_o that_o the_o apostle_n speak_v in_o his_o own_o that_o you_o can_v do_v the_o same_o thing_n that_o you_o will_v to_o all_o which_o we_o may_v add_v for_o the_o further_a satisfaction_n of_o this_o doubt_n in_o our_o heart_n and_o the_o stop_n of_o as_o i_o may_v say_v make_v one_o with_o he_o so_o that_o now_o this_o great_a grace_n be_v bestow_v upon_o i_o and_o i_o have_v that_o precious_a gift_n of_o faith_n wrought_v in_o i_o to_o apply_v it_o to_o myself_o the_o lord_n can_v or_o will_v no_o more_o refuse_v or_o condemn_v then_o jesus_n christ_n himself_o which_o i_o think_v the_o apostle_n mean_v by_o these_o notable_a and_o it_o we_o may_v know_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v give_v unto_o we_o of_o god_n and_o though_o this_o be_v sufficient_a and_o indeed_o great_a than_o all_o exception_n yet_o have_v we_o beside_o the_o powerful_a work_n of_o the_o same_o spirit_n frame_v we_o and_o fashion_v we_o to_o sound_v conversion_n before_o god_n and_o to_o the_o yield_a orbr_v out_o of_o the_o sincere_a fruit_n of_o faith_n that_o be_v to_o say_v good_a work_n which_o can_v but_o assure_v i_o of_o my_o salvation_n and_o of_o god_n grace_n and_o confirm_v i_o in_o the_o certain_a hope_n of_o the_o one_o and_o the_o other_o and_o this_o be_v that_o which_o saint_n peter_n provoke_v unto_o when_o he_o say_v brethren_n g_o we_o diligence_n by_o good_a work_n to_o make_v your_o call_n and_o election_n sure_a for_o if_o you_o do_v these_o thing_n you_o shall_v never_o fall_v because_o by_o this_o mean_v a_o entry_n shall_v be_v minister_v unto_o you_o abundant_o into_o the_o everlasting_a kingdom_n of_o our_o we_o be_v assure_v of_o the_o one_o &_o the_o other_o notwithstanding_o our_o weakness_n and_o want_n therefore_o we_o must_v also_o conceive_v hope_n of_o the_o former_a &_o indeed_o assure_v our_o heart_n therein_o again_o why_o do_v christ_n dwell_v in_o our_o heart_n by_o faith_n as_o the_o apostle_n say_v in_o his_o epistle_n to_o the_o ephesian_n it_o be_v to_o this_o end_n that_o he_o may_v be_v idle_a in_o we_o no_o very_o satan_n when_o he_o possess_v man_n will_v not_o suffer_v they_o to_o be_v idle_a much_o less_o jesus_n christ_n but_o provoke_v they_o still_o to_o honest_a labour_n and_o good_a work_n for_o by_o his_o spiritual_a power_n he_o manife_v his_o own_o strength_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o our_o manifold_a weakness_n now_o if_o that_o be_v true_a than_o this_o ensue_v thereupon_o that_o i_o be_o christ_n and_o christ_n be_v i_o as_o the_o church_n &_o faithful_a soul_n sing_v in_o the_o book_n of_o the_o canticle_n yea_o he_o himself_o with_o all_o his_o grace_n and_o merit_n whatsoever_o so_o that_o he_o which_o feel_v and_o find_v these_o effect_n in_o himself_o can_v not_o but_o must_v of_o necessity_n infer_v thereupon_o that_o he_o have_v faith_n and_o that_o therefore_o he_o have_v christ_n in_o he_o in_o this_o life_n make_v he_o fruitful_a unto_o all_o good_a work_n and_o seal_v up_o unto_o he_o &_o in_o he_o salvation_n &_o everlasting_a life_n in_o that_o which_o be_v to_o come_v unless_o that_o he_o will_v imagine_v that_o christ_n can_v be_v idlye_o or_o without_o fruit_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o his_o people_n which_o be_v blasphemy_n and_o yet_o we_o may_v be_v the_o better_o assure_v hereof_o because_o true_a faith_n indeed_o can_v no_o more_o be_v sunder_v from_o good_a work_n which_o be_v the_o sound_a fruit_n thereof_o then_o light_a from_o the_o sun_n or_o heat_n from_o the_o fire_n or_o if_o you_o will_v the_o shadow_n from_o a_o natural_a body_n but_o yet_o satan_n will_v except_v against_o this_o this_o faith_n of_o thou_o which_o thou_o speak_v of_o and_o these_o fruit_n of_o it_o that_o thou_o mention_v they_o be_v imperfect_a they_o be_v faint_a and_o few_o yea_o they_o seldom_o or_o very_o rare_o appear_v or_o be_v see_v what_o then_o satan_n grant_v that_o my_o faith_n and_o good_a work_n be_v faint_a and_o few_o in_o i_o will_v thou_o infer_v that_o therefore_o i_o have_v none_o that_o be_v against_o all_o reason_n and_o religion_n in_o reason_n he_o that_o have_v but_o a_o sick_a pine_a or_o languish_v life_n live_v still_o and_o in_o hope_n of_o the_o better_n of_o his_o estate_n either_o as_o in_o regard_n of_o this_o world_n if_o god_n will_v or_o as_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o life_n to_o come_v especial_o and_o why_o shall_v not_o this_o in_o measure_n and_o manner_n be_v true_a as_o in_o respect_n of_o our_o spiritual_a life_n here_o in_o religion_n we_o know_v that_o god_n accept_v both_o the_o whole_a church_n &_o the_o several_a member_n of_o it_o according_a to_o that_o they_o have_v and_o not_o according_a to_o that_o they_o have_v not_o provide_v always_o that_o that_o which_o they_o have_v they_o have_v it_o from_o he_o or_o else_o how_o can_v the_o church_n &_o member_n of_o it_o rejoice_v or_o comfort_v themselves_o in_o the_o thing_n that_o they_o do_v and_o from_o hence_o be_v it_o indeed_o that_o we_o learn_v notwithstanding_o weakness_n &_o want_n either_o in_o whole_a congregation_n or_o several_a member_n not_o to_o break_v the_o unity_n of_o the_o spirit_n in_o the_o band_n of_o peace_n nor_o to_o forsake_v the_o fellowship_n of_o the_o brethren_n and_o the_o exercise_n of_o the_o church_n as_o the_o manner_n of_o sin_n be_v but_o n_o holy_a wisdom_n and_o power_n from_o above_o to_o put_v a_o difference_n betwixt_o good_a and_o evil_a and_o that_o not_o only_o in_o our_o persuasion_n but_o in_o our_o practice_n not_o forsake_v the_o good_a of_o our_o god_n for_o some_o evil_n or_o corruption_n of_o man_n adjoin_v therewithal_o nor_o yet_o for_o the_o good_n sake_n justify_v or_o approve_v the_o evil_a and_o if_o this_o be_v not_o sufficient_a yet_o we_o have_v further_a prop_n to_o our_o faith_n here_o namely_o first_o that_o though_o our_o faith_n be_v weak_a and_o faint_a yet_o be_v it_o true_a and_o sound_a for_o even_o that_o faith_n which_o be_v infirm_a and_o weak_a may_v yet_o notwitstanding_n be_v true_a &_o right_a the_o reason_n be_v because_o that_o not_o weak_a faith_n and_o true_a faith_n be_v opposite_a but_o weak_a faith_n and_o no_o faith_n and_o this_o we_o may_v see_v also_o by_o the_o worthy_a speech_n of_o the_o father_n of_o the_o sick_a child_n in_o the_o gospel_n lord_n i_o believe_v but_o help_v thou_o my_o unbelief_n this_o weakness_n &_o imperfection_n our_o faith_n not_o come_v from_o itself_o nor_o be_v in_o itself_o as_o of_o itself_o for_o so_o it_o be_v a_o excellent_a and_o a_o absolute_a work_n of_o god_n but_o as_o it_o be_v intermingle_v with_o the_o remainder_n of_o our_o unbelieve_a heart_n which_o yet_o notwithstanding_o the_o faintness_n and_o weakness_n of_o it_o may_v no_o less_o effectual_o
the_o grace_n of_o god_n for_o that_o can_v they_o never_o come_v into_o that_o be_v he_o for_o those_o who_o the_o lord_n love_v he_o love_v unto_o the_o end_n but_o drip_v or_o slide_v into_o sin_n and_o transgression_n and_o those_o neither_o not_o of_o the_o high_a degree_n but_o of_o the_o mean_a nature_n which_o he_o call_v afterward_o temptation_n appertain_v to_o man_n which_o though_o in_o their_o own_o nature_n as_o any_o other_o sin_n shall_v may_v dismay_v we_o much_o yet_o shall_v they_o not_o work_v as_o in_o respect_n of_o god_n and_o his_o goodness_n towards_o we_o doubtfulness_n in_o we_o because_o those_o who_o he_o love_v he_o love_v as_o we_o have_v hear_v already_o unto_o the_o end_n notwithstanding_o the_o weakness_n and_o want_n that_o be_v in_o they_o and_o the_o drift_n of_o the_o place_n will_v as_o little_o avail_v they_o for_o by_o that_o which_o go_v before_o as_o also_o by_o that_o which_o follow_v after_o we_o may_v see_v that_o the_o spirit_n labour_v nothing_o more_o than_o this_o to_o draw_v the_o corinthian_n from_o security_n to_o heed_n and_o carefulness_n which_o he_o do_v as_o by_o propund_v unto_o they_o ancient_a example_n of_o god_n wrath_n against_o a_o people_n that_o have_v very_o great_a privilege_n and_o token_n of_o god_n favour_n so_o by_o this_o also_o that_o they_o have_v a_o more_o plain_a declaration_n of_o god_n will_v then_o the_o other_o shall_v thereby_o learn_v to_o be_v more_o wary_a lest_o otherwise_o not_o the_o like_a but_o great_a judgement_n shall_v break_v forth_o against_o they_o by_o how_o much_o christ_n be_v more_o plain_o manifest_v among_o they_o and_o yet_o lest_o one_o side_n they_o may_v flatter_v themselves_o to_o much_o &_o so_o not_o so_o careful_o withstand_v satan_n subtlety_n as_o they_o ought_v for_o man_n that_o imagine_v more_o of_o themselves_o then_o there_o be_v cause_n why_o be_v common_o careless_a or_o on_o the_o other_o side_n propound_v here_o be_v such_o as_o have_v no_o familiarity_n or_o acquaintance_n with_o distrustfulness_n or_o doubt_v in_o a_o word_n the_o apostle_n here_o deal_v against_o carnal_a confidence_n and_o security_n enjoin_v we_o that_o we_o rely_v not_o to_o much_o upon_o the_o grace_n that_o god_n have_v bestow_v upon_o we_o or_o flatter_v ourselves_o in_o careless_a security_n or_o stay_v ourselves_o upon_o our_o present_a estate_n or_o foolish_a conceit_n and_o opinion_n that_o we_o have_v of_o ourselves_o but_o rather_o that_o acknowledge_v our_o weakness_n faintness_n and_o unworthiness_n and_o also_o god_n grace_n and_o goodness_n towards_o we_o we_o shall_v labour_v to_o live_v in_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n and_o combat_v against_o our_o corruption_n and_o flesh_n we_o shall_v crave_v god_n aid_n and_o assistance_n against_o sin_n and_o satan_n if_o the_o apostle_n here_o then_o have_v forbid_v the_o corinthian_n to_o trust_v in_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n it_o have_v be_v somewhat_o but_o he_o be_v so_o far_o from_o that_o that_o here_o he_o blame_v they_o for_o be_v so_o much_o puff_v up_o in_o the_o vain_a confidence_n of_o flesh_n and_o blood_n and_o provoke_v they_o rather_o to_o modesty_n and_o lowelinesse_n and_o what_o be_v this_o to_o distrust_v or_o doubt_v which_o be_v that_o they_o must_v prove_v or_o else_o nothing_o 4_o they_o allege_v a_o four_o place_n out_o of_o phil._n 2._o verse_n 12._o work_v out_o your_o own_o salvation_n with_o fear_n and_o tremble_a therefore_o say_v they_o man_n must_v doubt_v of_o salvation_n etc._n etc._n but_o this_o have_v no_o more_o pith_n or_o marrow_n in_o it_o then_o the_o former_a why_o may_v we_o not_o as_o safe_o allege_v it_o for_o free_a will_n and_o power_n not_o only_o to_o do_v
