a_o subsequent_a hypocrisy_n which_o follow_v the_o work_n vainglory_n be_v a_o antecedent_n hypocrisy_n glory_n distinguish_v of_o self-applause_n and_o vain_a glory_n which_o move_v we_o to_o the_o work_n 3._o nevertheless_o you_o must_v distinguish_v of_o self-applause_n and_o vainglory_n that_o they_o be_v either_o 1._o naked_a act_n or_o motion_n 2._o habitual_a quality_n or_o disposition_n even_o the_o most_o upright_a person_n may_v find_v they_o in_o respect_n of_o motion_n but_o the_o hypocrite_n have_v they_o in_o respect_n of_o disposition_n in_o the_o one_o they_o arise_v up_o as_o temptation_n for_o it_o be_v a_o most_o difficult_a thing_n total_o to_o be_v rid_v of_o ourselves_o either_o before_o or_o in_o or_o after_o duty_n in_o the_o other_o they_o rise_v up_o as_o natural_a affection_n the_o one_o feed_v on_o they_o as_o on_o meat_n the_o other_o be_v trouble_v with_o they_o as_o with_o poison_n they_o break_v the_o heart_n of_o the_o one_o with_o pride_n of_o the_o other_o with_o sorrow_n and_o humble_v in_o the_o one_o they_o be_v approbation_n in_o the_o the_o other_o they_o be_v vexation_n in_o a_o hypocrite_n they_o be_v like_o the_o wind_n which_o fill_v the_o sail_n in_o a_o upright_a person_n they_o be_v like_o the_o wind_n which_o trouble_v the_o stomach_n the_o duty_n do_v by_o a_o hypocrite_n be_v like_o glass_n make_v and_o blow_v up_o only_o by_o breath_n the_o applause_n of_o man_n breathe_v strong_o upon_o his_o affection_n to_o set_v out_o his_o service_n but_o it_o be_v with_o a_o uptight_a person_n in_o this_o case_n as_o with_o a_o leaf_n on_o a_o tree_n a_o little_a breathe_n of_o the_o air_n make_v it_o to_o tremble_v a_o upright_a person_n be_v afraid_a of_o his_o own_o high_a opinion_n or_o the_o commendation_n of_o other_o he_o can_v be_v high_o glad_a when_o the_o honour_n be_v cast_v on_o god_n and_o if_o any_o after-rising_n begin_v to_o grow_v for_o former_a duty_n he_o be_v not_o well_o till_o he_o have_v cast_v they_o down_o by_o after-humblings_a the_o upright_a person_n be_v much_o with_o god_n before_o duty_n and_o all_o for_o god_n after_o it_o he_o take_v all_o the_o strength_n of_o action_n out_o of_o god_n hand_n and_o therefore_o will_v not_o finger_v the_o least_o scruple_n of_o praise_n he_o look_v on_o inward_a applause_n as_o a_o cross_n and_o on_o public_a as_o a_o danger_n in_o the_o one_o i_o hate_v myself_o in_o the_o other_o i_o fear_v myself_o object_n it_o be_v lawful_a i_o confess_v to_o know_v what_o god_n have_v give_v we_o and_o to_o acknowledge_v the_o good_a which_o he_o have_v do_v in_o we_o or_o by_o we_o how_o else_o can_v we_o be_v thankful_a sol._n but_o then_o it_o be_v necessary_a to_o make_v he_o the_o end_n who_o we_o acknowledge_v to_o be_v the_o cause_n to_o give_v unto_o god_n the_o glory_n who_o have_v give_v to_o we_o the_o strength_n no_o more_o to_o this_o case_n but_o this_o beg_v for_o much_o grace_n to_o do_v duty_n be_v make_v only_o by_o god_n and_o for_o he_o sect_n v._o a_o three_o use_n of_o the_o doctrine_n shall_v be_v to_o stir_v we_o up_o to_o get_v use_n 3_o uprightness_n and_o to_o keep_v it_o there_o be_v two_o thing_n which_o it_o labour_v to_o get_v uprightness_n and_o keep_v it_o here_o offer_v themselves_o viz._n 1._o motive_n to_o persuade_v we_o 2._o mean_v to_o direct_v and_o help_v we_o 1._o for_o the_o first_o of_o these_o what_o shall_v i_o say_v how_o shall_v i_o persuade_v if_o all_o the_o argument_n of_o heaven_n or_o earth_n may_v be_v available_a i_o have_v they_o at_o hand_n to_o present_v they_o unto_o you_o to_o motive_n motive_n excite_v your_o heart_n to_o this_o labour_n if_o there_o be_v any_o regard_n of_o a_o god_n of_o a_o christ_n of_o your_o soul_n of_o your_o comfort_n here_o of_o your_o happiness_n hereafter_o then_o think_v of_o uprightness_n content_v not_o yourselves_o till_o you_o have_v it_o why_o 1._o god_n regard_v you_o not_o if_o you_o be_v not_o upright_o his_o eye_n be_v upon_o the_o truth_n and_o he_o will_v be_v worship_v in_o spirit_n and_o truth_n thousand_o upright_o god_n regard_v you_o not_o if_o not_o upright_o of_o ram_n and_o river_n of_o oil_n daily_a oblation_n solemn_a humbling_n cry_n and_o calling_n he_o can_v away_o with_o they_o he_o hide_v his_o face_n from_o they_o if_o the_o heart_n under_o these_o be_v false_a and_o doubt_v the_o word_n of_o god_n condemn_v you_o if_o you_o be_v not_o upright_o it_o will_v not_o acquit_v you_o if_o you_o have_v lamp_n without_o oil_n a_o form_n of_o godliness_n without_o the_o power_n thereof_o though_o you_o make_v many_o prayer_n though_o long_a prayer_n though_o you_o give_v much_o alm_n yet_o if_o your_o heart_n be_v not_o upright_o in_o these_o the_o word_n will_v condemn_v you_o for_o hypocrite_n and_o will_v give_v you_o your_o portion_n with_o they_o who_o shall_v have_v the_o great_a damnation_n your_o conscience_n will_v secret_o reproach_v and_o
