god_n be_v the_o object_n so_o his_o worship_n be_v the_o subject_n of_o this_o reverence_n devotion_n holiness_n here_o require_v and_o the_o first_o thing_n command_v be_v swear_v true_o and_o in_o such_o a_o manner_n as_o that_o god_n may_v be_v honour_v and_o that_o the_o party_n swear_v may_v be_v innocent_a and_o god_n in_o these_o word_n do_v not_o command_v we_o to_o swear_v for_o that_o belong_v unto_o the_o first_o precept_n but_o to_o swear_v tru●y_n just_o and_o in_o a_o holy_a manner_n for_o god_n foresee_v that_o the_o condition_n of_o man_n will_v be_v such_o as_o that_o many_o time_n a_o oath_n will_v be_v not_o only_o convenient_a but_o in_o some_o respect_n necessary_a he_o think_v it_o fit_a to_o regulate_v the_o same_o and_o therefore_o do_v command_v we_o 1._o to_o swear_v by_o his_o name_n not_o by_o creature_n or_o false_a go_n 2._o because_o in_o judgement_n league_n and_o contract_n it_o be_v to_o be_v solemn_o use_v with_o some_o rite_n and_o ceremony_n he_o therefore_o appoint_v to_o be_v a_o part_n of_o his_o worship_n and_o that_o not_o only_o to_o man_n but_o angel_n 3._o because_o it_o will_v not_o prove_v to_o be_v of_o no_o force_n and_o effect_n if_o not_o take_v in_o due_a manner_n in_o this_o commandment_n he_o therefore_o prescribe_v the_o manner_n and_o bind_v to_o observe_v it_o not_o to_o repeat_v the_o dictinction_n of_o oath_n §_o xii_o into_o public_a private_a judicial_a extrajudicial_a voluntary_a impose_v i_o will_v only_o resume_v that_o of_o assertory_n and_o promissory_a whether_o negative_a or_o affirmative_a in_o a_o assertory_n oath_n it_o be_v require_v 1._o that_o the_o matter_n confirm_v by_o it_o be_v certain_a in_o itself_o and_o certain_o know_v to_o the_o party_n swear_v for_o if_o truth_n and_o certain_a knowledge_n be_v require_v in_o our_o ordinary_a speech_n and_o conference_n with_o other_o when_o we_o affirm_v or_o deny_v any_o thing_n much_o more_o be_v it_o require_v in_o a_o oath_n 2._o the_o matter_n must_v be_v of_o that_o weight_n and_o importance_n as_o to_o be_v worthy_a of_o so_o high_a and_o divine_a confirmation_n for_o god_n be_v not_o to_o be_v solemn_o invoke_v and_o attest_v in_o tri●les_n and_o matter_n of_o small_a moment_n 3._o it_o must_v be_v such_o as_o may_v be_v ju●●ly_o doubt_v of_o and_o that_o there_o be_v a_o kind_n of_o necessity_n of_o a_o oath_n for_o confirmation_n both_o because_o it_o be_v of_o special_a concernment_n to_o determine_v it_o and_o take_v away_o the_o doubt_n and_o also_o there_o be_v no_o
