own_o charge_n but_o have_v bring_v it_o against_o we_o to_o the_o end_v they_o may_v the_o more_o effectual_o divert_v from_o a_o observe_v how_o and_o after_o what_o manner_n they_o insinuate_v and_o spread_v their_o own_o erroneous_a opinion_n in_o this_o apprehension_n many_o will_v be_v confirm_v when_o they_o consider_v that_o the_o matter_n charge_v upon_o we_o be_v not_o only_o without_o the_o least_o colour_n of_o reason_n but_o most_o contrary_a to_o our_o know_a and_o avow_a principle_n nor_o have_v there_o be_v any_o thing_n offer_v that_o we_o know_v of_o to_o countenance_v this_o accusation_n but_o the_o raise_n another_o which_o have_v as_o little_a truth_n and_o no_o more_o ground_n for_o it_o than_o the_o former_a which_o be_v that_o we_o encourage_v ignorant_a person_n and_o man_n of_o no_o good_a report_n to_o enter_v on_o the_o ministry_n who_o make_v it_o their_o business_n to_o preach_v up_o the_o error_n charge_v upon_o we_o which_o we_o will_v never_o have_v do_v have_v we_o not_o favour_v their_o notion_n to_o which_o we_o reply_v 1._o that_o touch_v man_n enter_v on_o the_o ministry_n we_o yield_v no_o more_o than_o other_o protestant_a church_n such_o as_o the_o church_n of_o scotland_n holland_n and_o england_n have_v hitherto_o do_v viz._n that_o man_n of_o sound_a knowledge_n in_o the_o substantial_o of_o religion_n discreet_a holy_a and_o humble_a who_o heart_n god_n incline_v to_o the_o work_n of_o the_o ministry_n though_o they_o have_v not_o have_v the_o advantage_n of_o eminency_n in_o the_o academic_a learning_n or_o any_o considerable_a skill_n in_o philosophy_n yet_o when_o the_o state_n of_o the_o church_n and_o some_o special_a circumstance_n in_o regard_n to_o their_o opportunity_n of_o service_n and_o usefulness_n require_v it_o may_v enter_v on_o this_o holy_a work_n in_o a_o orderly_a way_n with_o approbation_n 2._o we_o do_v also_o declare_v that_o they_o who_o enter_v on_o the_o ministry_n ought_v ordinary_o to_o be_v endue_v with_o a_o competent_a measure_n of_o learning_n which_o be_v necessary_a for_o the_o defence_n of_o truth_n against_o subtle_a adversary_n as_o well_o as_o with_o other_o ministerial_a gift_n and_o that_o they_o may_v obtain_v this_o qualification_n they_o ought_v to_o use_v those_o help_n that_o be_v most_o proper_a in_o order_n thereunto_o in_o knowledge_n or_o that_o which_o be_v seek_v out_o by_o study_n or_o receive_v from_o other_o and_o will_v have_v all_o infuse_v now_o consider_v timothy_n have_v the_o main_a and_o chief_a of_o his_o knowledge_n
