love_n of_o their_o parent_n so_o to_o a_o proper_a share_n of_o the_o affection_n and_o service_n and_o all_o other_o advantage_n of_o the_o family_n first_o therefore_o a_o servant_n owe_v the_o child_n of_o his_o master_n a_o sincere_a affection_n affection_n affection_n which_o will_v easy_o be_v grant_v if_o it_o be_v but_o consider_v that_o it_o be_v impossible_a for_o a_o servant_n to_o bear_v faith_n and_o love_n to_o his_o master_n and_o have_v neither_o for_o his_o child_n for_o child_n be_v the_o dear_a interest_n and_o most_o valuable_a treasure_n of_o their_o parent_n child_n be_v the_o joy_n and_o hope_n of_o their_o father_n they_o double_v the_o pleasure_n of_o his_o prosperity_n by_o be_v sharer_n in_o it_o and_o ease_v the_o toil_n of_o his_o labour_n by_o be_v the_o in_o a_o three_o the_o sluggish_a servant_n shift_v the_o burden_n off_o himself_o and_o this_o must_v lie_v somewhere_o now_o this_o be_v the_o high_a injustice_n for_o it_o be_v to_o ease_v one_o own_a trouble_n by_o increase_v another_o a_o second_o error_n to_o which_o servant_n be_v prone_a be_v insolence_n there_o be_v no_o master_n so_o tyrannical_a and_o domineer_a as_n be_v one_o servant_n over_o another_o and_o this_o be_v common_o the_o use_n a_o disingenuous_a servant_n make_v of_o that_o authority_n which_o the_o favour_n or_o trust_v of_o the_o master_n confer_v upon_o he_o namely_o to_o oppress_v insult_v over_o and_o despise_v his_o fellow-servant_n methinks_v it_o shall_v now_o be_v difficult_a to_o convince_v any_o of_o you_o of_o the_o injustice_n of_o this_o behaviour_n for_o how_o can_v any_o one_o of_o you_o be_v so_o stupid_a as_o to_o think_v that_o behaviour_n just_a in_o he_o towards_o his_o fellow-servant_n which_o he_o will_v think_v be_v not_o to_o be_v endure_v in_o his_o master_n towards_o himself_o beside_o i_o can_v tell_v whether_o the_o folly_n of_o this_o carriage_n be_v not_o great_a than_o the_o injustice_n not_o only_o because_o such_o a_o servant_n forget_v his_o own_o quality_n upbraid_v himself_o whilst_o he_o insult_v over_o his_o fellow-servant_n and_o render_v the_o worst_a usage_n his_o master_n and_o mistress_n can_v treat_v he_o with_o just_a and_o reasonable_a for_o he_o have_v no_o reason_n to_o complain_v of_o his_o superior_n for_o that_o usage_n which_o he_o be_v guilty_a of_o towards_o his_o equal_n but_o beside_o this_o such_o a_o servant_n must_v expect_v to_o be_v undermine_v at_o home_n and_o most_o certain_o defame_v abroad_o and_o when_o any_o ill_a accident_n befall_v he_o or_o lessen_v his_o interest_n in_o his_o master_n he_o must_v expect_v the_o just_a return_n of_o his_o insolence_n in_o contempt_n and_o hatred_n i_o will_v have_v such_o servant_n as_o these_o call_v to_o mind_n what_o our_o saviour_n say_v of_o that_o servant_n who_o be_v by_o his_o lord_n make_v ruler_n of_o his_o household_n 51._o household_n matth._n 24.49.50_o 51._o begin_v to_o smite_v his_o fellow-servant_n and_o to_o eat_v and_o drink_v with_o the_o drunken_a the_o lord_n of_o that_o servant_n shall_v come_v in_o a_o day_n when_o he_o look_v not_o for_o he_o and_o in_o a_o hour_n that_o he_o be_v not_o ware_n of_o and_o shall_v cut_v he_o asunder_o and_o appoint_v he_o his_o portion_n with_o the_o hippocrite_n there_o shall_v be_v weep_v and_o gnash_n of_o tooth_n now_o though_o to_o make_v party_n and_o set_v one_o servant_n against_o another_o or_o whether_o it_o be_v last_o by_o sly_a insinuation_n or_o malicious_a accusation_n to_o the_o master_n it_o matter_n little_a this_o be_v in_o each_o instance_n the_o fruit_n of_o a_o naughty_a and_o wicked_a heart_n 15.19_o heart_n matt._n 15.19_o for_o out_o of_o the_o heart_n proceed_v not_o only_a murder_n adultery_n etc._n etc._n but_o also_o evil_a thought_n false_a witness_n blasphemy_n and_o these_o be_v the_o thing_n which_o defile_v a_o man._n it_o be_v strange_a to_o observe_v that_o if_o this_o sin_n be_v to_o be_v estimate_v by_o the_o practice_n of_o servant_n it_o be_v so_o common_a one_o will_v be_v tempt_v to_o think_v it_o be_v no_o sin_n at_o all_o and_o yet_o if_o it_o be_v to_o be_v estimate_v from_o the_o word_n of_o god_n one_o will_v be_v tempt_v to_o think_v it_o be_v the_o great_a of_o sin_n for_o i_o do_v not_o know_v whether_o there_o be_v any_o sin_n
a_o servant_n both_o happy_a and_o considerable_a in_o despite_n of_o the_o meanness_n either_o of_o his_o birth_n or_o fortune_n and_o happy_a must_v those_o master_n be_v who_o be_v serve_v by_o person_n of_o such_o virtue_n since_o therefore_o the_o trust_n be_v so_o great_a which_o be_v repose_v in_o servant_n since_o the_o virtue_n necessary_a to_o make_v a_o good_a servant_n be_v so_o many_o and_o great_a and_o since_o the_o fruit_n of_o their_o good_a service_n be_v so_o extreme_o profitable_a to_o themselves_o and_o the_o family_n they_o be_v member_n of_o it_o do_v natural_o follow_v that_o they_o shall_v with_o great_a care_n and_o pain_n be_v train_v up_o and_o fit_v for_o service_n now_o this_o duty_n of_o preparation_n do_v in_o the_o first_o place_n belong_v to_o towards_o one_o even_o to_o fondness_n and_o dotage_n and_o aggravate_v their_o unkindness_n to_o another_o even_o to_o coldness_n &_o hatred_n one_o while_o they_o will_v not_o stick_v to_o insinuate_v the_o peevishness_n or_o jealousi'e_n of_o a_o parent_n another_o while_n they_o will_v magnify_v the_o fortune_n of_o the_o young_a heir_n they_o will_v provoke_v he_o by_o lay_v before_o he_o the_o liberty_n and_o fineness_n of_o this_o or_o that_o young_a gentleman_n who_o be_v of_o a_o mean_a fortune_n than_o he_o they_o will_v impute_v the_o strictness_n and_o care_n of_o parent_n bend_v some_o little_a obligation_n pass_v upon_o he_o or_o wholesome_a advice_n insinuate_v in_o a_o fit_a season_n will_v awaken_v his_o natural_a affection_n and_o then_o he_o will_v make_v no_o nay_o oblige_v to_o pursue_v and_o advance_v by_o all_o fair_a mean_n it_o will_v easy_o be_v grant_v that_o the_o interest_n of_o a_o servant_n consist_v in_o these_o three_o thing_n his_o credit_n the_o love_n of_o his_o master_n etc._n etc._n the_o profit_n of_o his_o place_n it_o be_v therefore_o a_o duty_n which_o concern_v a_o servant_n to_o consider_v what_o course_n he_o must_v take_v to_o promote_v these_o three_o advance_v the_o servant_n credit_v how_o advance_v first_o then_o if_o we_o consider_v the_o ground_n of_o a_o servant_n credit_n or_o reputation_n it_o depend_v upon_o valuable_a and_o considerable_a to_o they_o for_o such_o be_v the_o beauty_n and_o majesty_n of_o virtue_n that_o it_o command_v from_o all_o some_o degree_n of_o affection_n and_o respect_n and_o such_o be_v the_o manifold_a use_n of_o it_o in_o the_o world_n that_o he_o who_o be_v possess_v of_o it_o be_v present_o account_v of_o as_o more_o worthy_a and_o more_o serviceable_a than_o other_o man_n which_o be_v a_o character_n which_o command_v esteem_v now_o if_o you_o will_v possess_v man_n with_o the_o persuasion_n of_o your_o virtue_n the_o most_o effectual_a way_n be_v real_o to_o be_v what_o you_o will_v fain_o appear_v to_o be_v for_o a_o hypocrite_n can_v long_o be_v conceal_v and_o when_o he_o be_v discover_v he_o look_v more_o loathsome_a than_o a_o open_a sinner_n beside_o that_o a_o hypocrite_n lie_v under_o this_o one_o great_a disadvantage_n that_o his_o dissimulation_n once_o prove_v upon_o he_o his_o credit_n can_v never_o be_v redeem_v by_o his_o follow_a sincerity_n his_o very_a repentance_n shall_v never_o find_v credit_n with_o man_n there_o be_v no_o way_n leave_v man_n to_o distinguish_v it_o from_o a_o strain_n of_o his_o know_a art_n you_o must_v therefore_o be_v real_o virtuous_a if_o you_o will_v gain_v a_o reputation_n for_o virtue_n you_o must_v endeavour_v to_o be_v most_o eminent_a in_o these_o virtue_n which_o be_v proper_a to_o your_o station_n sobriety_n industry_n faithfulness_n &c_n &c_n for_o these_o be_v the_o virtue_n man_n require_v and_o regard_v in_o you_o there_o be_v scarce_o any_o place_n wherein_o there_o be_v
