of_o the_o same_o that_o so_o we_o may_v daily_o hasten_v to_o perfection_n by_o daily_o deny_v of_o ourselves_o and_o labour_v to_o be_v find_v in_o christ_n not_o have_v our_o own_o righteousness_n and_o therefore_o howsoever_o we_o have_v not_o the_o perfect_a sight_n and_o feel_n of_o our_o grow_v in_o grace_n neither_o enjoy_v sensible_a comfort_n in_o the_o same_o at_o all_o time_n alike_o yet_o be_v this_o so_o far_o from_o challenge_v the_o truth_n of_o god_n grace_n in_o we_o as_o that_o rather_o it_o do_v evidence_n undoubted_o the_o power_n thereof_o see_v in_o regard_n of_o the_o apprehension_n yea_o contrary_a to_o sense_n and_o ordinary_a course_n as_o the_o ship_n many_o time_n sail_n by_o side_n and_o contrary_a wind_n towards_o the_o port_n and_o be_v fain_o sometime_o to_o forgo_v her_o burden_n yea_o her_o anchor_n to_o that_o so_o she_o may_v escape_v the_o storm_n and_o ride_v safe_o to_o the_o haven_n so_o be_v we_o lead_v along_o in_o this_o work_n of_o grace_n to_o this_o end_n consider_v we_o further_o that_o our_o new_a birth_n and_o growth_n in_o grace_n be_v compare_v to_o a_o combat_n express_v therein_o as_o the_o manner_n of_o it_o growth_n which_o be_v by_o a_o continual_a bicker_n and_o contention_n between_o the_o spirit_n and_o the_o flesh_n so_o thereby_o also_o give_v we_o some_o direction_n how_o to_o discern_v the_o manner_n thereof_o even_o by_o a_o continual_a fight_n and_o wrestle_v within_o we_o whence_o arise_v these_o conclusion_n that_o as_o the_o spirit_n prevail_v two_o way_n either_o by_o strengthen_v we_o to_o overcome_v the_o present_a tentation_n or_o else_o by_o leave_v we_o to_o the_o particular_a tentation_n for_o the_o present_a thereby_o either_o to_o arm_v we_o better_o against_o the_o same_o hereafter_o that_o so_o we_o may_v after_o a_o foil_n attain_v a_o more_o glorious_a victory_n or_o though_o it_o leave_v we_o to_o be_v foil_v by_o the_o particular_a tentation_n yet_o it_o do_v by_o growth_n be_v rather_o by_o the_o issue_n and_o success_n of_o the_o combat_n then_o by_o the_o present_a wrestle_a because_o for_o the_o present_a through_o violence_n of_o tentation_n and_o heat_n of_o affection_n strive_v there_o against_o our_o faith_n be_v now_o exercise_v be_v so_o intentive_a in_o the_o encounter_n that_o it_o have_v enough_o to_o do_v to_o keep_v it_o own_o therein_o holiness_n thus_o we_o must_v live_v by_o faith_n in_o discern_v the_o manner_n of_o our_o growth_n and_o this_o will_v afford_v we_o many_o comfortable_a conclusion_n to_o settle_v we_o against_o diverse_a tentation_n which_o be_v incident_a hereto_o as_o first_o whereas_o it_o much_o distract_v the_o saint_n that_o because_o they_o can_v sensible_o discern_v for_o the_o present_a the_o maâ—ner_n of_o their_o spiritual_a growth_n no_o more_o than_o they_o can_v their_o natural_a therefore_o they_o question_v ofttimes_o the_o truth_n thereof_o if_o now_o they_o shall_v know_v that_o in_o the_o discern_a thereof_o they_o must_v live_v by_o faith_n and_o not_o by_o sense_n this_o distraction_n will_v easy_o be_v remedy_v for_o now_o see_v that_o may_v be_v believe_v by_o faith_n presumption_n and_o keep_v in_o a_o continual_a hunger_n after_o the_o best_a grace_n and_o this_o meet_v with_o a_o second_o tentation_n arise_v from_o present_a feel_n of_o the_o work_n of_o grace_n teach_v we_o to_o avoid_v spiritual_a pride_n presumption_n etc._n etc._n by_o live_v still_o by_o faith_n above_o and_o beyond_o all_o present_a feel_n and_o second_o though_o in_o our_o best_a performance_n of_o holy_a duty_n we_o find_v not_o that_o present_a answer_n as_o we_o expect_v but_o rather_o meet_v with_o what_o be_v contrary_a thereunto_o yet_o if_o now_o we_o can_v live_v by_o faith_n we_o shall_v be_v full_o satisfy_v for_o faith_n will_v now_o teach_v we_o to_o perform_v obedience_n unto_o god_n simple_o because_o he_o command_v and_o not_o so_o much_o for_o what_o be_v promise_v and_o so_o to_o measure_v our_o spiritual_a growth_n rather_o by_o increase_n of_o our_o obedience_n then_o return_v of_o the_o issue_n thereof_o yea_o though_o we_o have_v not_o our_o particular_a answer_n for_o the_o present_a yet_o the_o trial_n of_o our_o faith_n will_v bring_v forth_o patience_n 1.3_o jam._n 1.3_o and_o patience_n will_v perfect_v the_o work_n by_o perseverance_n therein_o yea_o faith_n 11.1_o heb._n 11.1_o which_o be_v of_o thing_n not_o see_v will_v enable_v we_o to_o see_v a_o far_o off_o into_o that_o great_a reward_n 11.26_o heb._n 11.26_o which_o will_v sufficient_o supply_v and_o recompense_v all_o our_o present_a disappointment_n and_o waiting_n nay_o though_o we_o meet_v with_o contrary_a blast_n and_o issue_n to_o our_o desire_n yet_o faith_n that_o purify_v the_o heart_n 15.9_o act_n 15.9_o will_v reveal_v unto_o we_o some_o inward_a cause_n of_o these_o contrary_a effect_n and_o so_o will_v enable_v we_o to_o purge_v out_o such_o secret_a evil_n of_o spiritual_a pride_n vainglory_n and_o such_o like_a which_o undoubted_o have_v stay_v god_n hand_n from_o give_v we_o our_o desire_n yea_o such_o herein_o be_v the_o power_n of_o faith_n that_o rest_v we_o upon_o the_o power_n &_o good_a pleasure_n of_o god_n it_o will_v thereby_o pacify_v the_o mind_n in_o what_o god_n please_v to_o dispense_v and_o satisfy_v also_o the_o same_o that_o this_o be_v best_a for_o we_o though_o for_o the_o present_a we_o can_v discern_v it_o through_o impatience_n pride_n or_o such_o like_a yea_o the_o power_n of_o faith_n will_v dispel_v these_o fog_n and_o make_v manifest_a to_o the_o advise_a spirit_n what_o may_v be_v best_a for_o it_o yea_o herein_o also_o appear_v the_o wonderful_a virtue_n of_o faith_n that_o it_o will_v keep_v the_o work_n a_o foot_n more_o earnest_o the_o more_o it_o seem_v to_o be_v cross_v &_o continue_v the_o same_o more_o eager_o in_o hope_n at_o length_n to_o prevail_v and_o never_o give_v over_o till_o it_o have_v overcome_v the_o lord_n oh_o that_o we_o can_v wise_o consider_v thereof_o indeed_o we_o have_v a_o promise_n that_o if_o we_o believe_v we_o shall_v obtain_v whatsoever_o we_o ask_v so_o that_o it_o may_v seem_v that_o if_o we_o do_v not_o obtain_v we_o do_v not_o believe_v but_o if_o we_o remember_v withal_o that_o we_o must_v ask_v according_a to_o god_n will_v and_o that_o beggar_n must_v be_v no_o chooser_n and_o that_o we_o may_v not_o indent_v with_o god_n either_o for_o the_o time_n or_o particular_a for_o so_o we_o live_v by_o faith_n we_o may_v undoubted_o obtain_v what_o be_v best_a for_o we_o if_o not_o the_o particular_a for_o the_o present_a yet_o what_o meanwhile_o shall_v be_v better_o and_o the_o particular_a if_o necessary_a in_o the_o time_n most_o convenient_a only_o let_v we_o pray_v in_o faith_n 1.6_o jam._n 1.6_o and_o so_o wait_v with_o patience_n apprehend_v he_o which_o be_v invisible_a and_o in_o he_o the_o glory_n to_o be_v reveal_v and_o so_o shall_v we_o obtain_v whatsoever_o may_v further_o thereunto_o in_o that_o time_n and_o manner_n and_o measure_n as_o may_v be_v most_o available_a to_o conclude_v this_o point_n the_o necessity_n of_o this_o life_n by_o faith_n arise_v from_o these_o two_o consideration_n 1._o from_o that_o admirable_a and_o wise_a manner_n of_o god_n deal_v with_o we_o in_o lead_v sin_n 1._o sense_n of_o our_o own_o inability_n and_o corruption_n 2._o so_o sorrow_n for_o the_o same_o and_o so_o repentance_n &_o so_o more_o humility_n &_o wariness_n against_o future_a assault_n and_o great_a tentation_n so_o that_o of_o necessity_n here_o we_o must_v live_v by_o faith_n that_o by_o this_o pierce_a and_o clear_a light_n we_o may_v be_v able_a to_o discern_v through_o the_o thick_a cloud_n of_o voluntary_a sin_v notwithstanding_o a_o unwillingness_n to_o commit_v the_o same_o that_o in_o the_o sweet_a of_o sin_n

and_o manner_n thereof_o 2._o so_o that_o hereby_o we_o may_v discern_v the_o manner_n of_o our_o growth_n if_o we_o find_v the_o spirit_n daily_o quicken_a and_o further_a the_o work_n both_o stir_v up_o the_o good_a motion_n as_o the_o ground_n thereof_o and_o enable_v to_o put_v the_o motion_n into_o practice_n &_o give_v comfort_n in_o the_o practice_n by_o the_o acceptance_n thereof_o in_o christ_n above_o the_o worth_n thereof_o and_o hence_o arise_v these_o comfortable_a rule_n to_o meet_v with_o diverse_a tentation_n incident_a to_o the_o new_a birth_n both_o for_o our_o trial_n and_o comfort_n therein_o that_o whereas_o we_o find_v ourselves_o tho_o true_o convert_v yet_o sometime_o to_o be_v unapt_a to_o holy_a duty_n find_v little_a comfort_n in_o they_o less_o power_n to_o resist_v corruption_n and_o so_o may_v think_v the_o work_n to_o be_v not_o only_o interrupt_v but_o quite_o undo_v yet_o if_o we_o consider_v that_o it_o be_v a_o creation_n not_o only_o in_o the_o beginning_n but_o in_o the_o proceed_n too_o psal_n 51.10_o though_o we_o may_v despair_v in_o regard_n of_o ourselves_o yet_o must_v we_o now_o by_o faith_n still_o rely_v on_o our_o god_n thereto_o so_o be_v it_o in_o the_o work_n of_o grace_n the_o faculty_n be_v create_v in_o every_o part_n at_o the_o first_o in_o the_o understanding_n conscience_n will_n affection_n etc._n etc._n yet_o do_v not_o these_o faculty_n execute_v their_o several_a operation_n at_o the_o first_o by_o reason_n that_o the_o organ_n of_o those_o faculty_n be_v either_o yet_o not_o create_v or_o not_o fit_v for_o use_v whence_o follow_v these_o conclusion_n for_o the_o trial_n of_o the_o manner_n of_o growth_n and_o comfort_n therein_o 1._o for_o trial_n that_o see_v the_o faculty_n must_v lead_v to_o and_o enlive_v the_o action_n and_o of_o all_o faculty_n though_o the_o will_v be_v predominate_a yet_o the_o understanding_n must_v begin_v to_o discern_v what_o be_v to_o be_v do_v or_o undo_v and_o knowledge_n must_v inform_v and_o bind_v the_o conscience_n to_o the_o do_v thereof_o and_o so_o the_o will_v consequent_o be_v attempt_v and_o subdue_v to_o the_o performance_n or_o leave_v contrary_a as_o a_o sight_n of_o it_o in_o the_o understanding_n and_o then_o we_o may_v be_v sure_a of_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o work_n see_v that_o the_o hypocrite_n may_v by_o the_o power_n of_o conscience_n natural_o especial_o be_v enlighten_v by_o the_o spirit_n discern_v sin_n and_o so_o be_v conumce_v of_o it_o but_o yet_o his_o heart_n be_v not_o renew_a by_o grace_n neither_o can_v and_o so_o hereby_o we_o may_v make_v trial_n whether_o we_o grow_v in_o grace_n and_o hasten_v to_o perfection_n if_o we_o have_v attain_a to_o such_o conscience_n in_o the_o duty_n of_o the_o first_o table_n as_o that_o we_o can_v only_o prefer_v the_o performance_n thereof_o above_o any_o duty_n of_o the_o second_o unless_o it_o be_v in_o such_o case_n of_o necessity_n and_o charity_n whereby_o we_o preserve_v the_o bond_n of_o love_n which_o be_v the_o fulfil_n of_o the_o law_n though_o we_o exchange_v some_o particular_a duty_n of_o the_o first_o table_n in_o such_o case_n with_o some_o duty_n of_o the_o second_o as_o the_o occasion_n require_v but_o also_o we_o can_v so_o preserve_v the_o holy_a order_n which_o that_o table_n require_v as_o to_o do_v all_o thing_n out_o of_o constant_a perform_n of_o private_a and_o family_n duty_n to_o build_v up_o ourselves_o and_o other_o in_o knowledge_n and_o grace_n and_o in_o all_o these_o not_o so_o much_o to_o be_v comfort_v in_o the_o common_a that_o if_o it_o go_v well_o with_o we_o in_o these_o inferior_a much_o more_o than_o in_o the_o principal_a as_o lay_v up_o a_o good_a foundation_n by_o they_o against_o the_o day_n on_o god_n free_a grace_n both_o for_o the_o acceptance_n of_o our_o person_n that_o we_o may_v be_v enable_v to_o well_o do_v as_o also_o for_o the_o undertake_n and_o prosecute_n of_o the_o work_n mere_o hold_v of_o his_o free_a grace_n special_o in_o the_o issue_n thereof_o submit_v whole_o thereto_o and_o comfort_v ourselves_o in_o the_o acceptance_n of_o our_o person_n above_o all_o worth_n of_o our_o well_o do_v and_o in_o the_o truth_n of_o god_n promise_n beyond_o all_o present_a performance_n of_o the_o same_o live_v still_o by_o faith_n in_o jesus_n christ_n and_o see_v a_o far_o off_o by_o faith_n into_o the_o glory_n which_o shall_v be_v reveal_v shall_v endeavour_v still_o to_o cast_v away_o every_o thing_n that_o press_v down_o and_o shake_v off_o the_o special_a sin_n that_o hang_v so_o fast_o on_o we_o that_o so_o we_o may_v run_v with_o joy_n the_o race_n that_o be_v set_v before_o us._n this_o be_v a_o sure_a evidence_n of_o our_o spiritual_a growth_n hereby_o we_o shall_v approve_v and_o improve_v daily_o the_o measure_n thereof_o last_o see_v whatsoever_o we_o be_v or_o shall_v be_v be_v of_o god_n free_a bounty_n and_o superaboundant_a grace_n therefore_o if_o in_o whatsoever_o we_o be_v or_o do_v we_o ascribe_v all_o to_o the_o mere_a goodness_n of_o god_n do_v all_o our_o work_n for_o we_o and_o crown_v all_o our_o work_n in_o we_o enable_v we_o to_o do_v above_o what_o we_o can_v desire_v or_o think_v and_o accept_v what_o we_o do_v above_o any_o ability_n or_o worth_n in_o and_o of_o ourselves_o hereby_o we_o may_v true_o evidence_n the_o measure_n of_o our_o spiritual_a growth_n the_o more_o we_o can_v depend_v upon_o the_o absolute_a goodness_n of_o god_n and_o so_o may_v gracious_o improve_v and_o further_o our_o hasten_v on_o to_o perfection_n a_o four_o rule_n hereunto_o be_v that_o as_o there_o be_v diverse_a measure_n of_o glory_n so_o there_o be_v also_o diverse_a measure_n of_o grace_n suitable_a thereunto_o and_o yet_o each_o shall_v have_v sufficient_a to_o make_v up_o his_o particular_a measure_n and_o this_o according_a to_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n who_o give_v to_o each_o as_o it_o please_v he_o and_o this_o according_a to_o his_o unspeakable_a wisdom_n to_o reserve_v the_o glory_n of_o his_o mercy_n entire_o unto_o himself_o yet_o so_o as_o that_o 1_o in_o the_o diversity_n of_o measure_n each_o shall_v have_v sufficient_a to_o the_o end_n they_o be_v ordain_v 2_o each_o shall_v hereby_o be_v more_o serviceable_a to_o each_o other_o for_o the_o present_a common_a good_a and_o future_a main_a end_n even_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n 3_o and_o so_o each_o shall_v hereby_o provoke_v other_o more_o effectual_o in_o their_o several_a measure_n to_o their_o main_a end_n the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o their_o own_o salvation_n out_o of_o which_o ground_n arise_v these_o most_o comfortable_a conclusion_n 1_o that_o see_v the_o wise_a lord_n dispense_v several_o according_a to_o his_o pleasure_n therefore_o we_o must_v be_v content_v with_o what_o he_o have_v dispose_v and_o yet_o not_o neglect_v the_o mean_n whereby_o we_o may_v both_o confirm_v what_o we_o have_v and_o also_o increase_v it_o in_o our_o several_a occasion_n 2_o that_o see_v in_o this_o diversity_n yet_o each_o shall_v have_v sufficient_a therefore_o we_o may_v neither_o in_o all_o cheerfulness_n and_o diligence_n improve_v the_o same_o find_v this_o as_o a_o evidence_n of_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o measure_n and_o our_o good_a husbandry_n therein_o that_o we_o so_o rest_v in_o the_o same_o as_o still_o to_o hasten_v forward_o to_o the_o price_n that_o be_v set_v before_o we_o and_o measure_v ourselves_o and_o other_o as_o we_o follow_v christ_n and_o endeavour_n to_o be_v partaker_n of_o his_o fullness_n that_o god_n may_v be_v be_v all_o in_o all_o in_o us._n and_o hereunto_o serve_v a_o five_o rule_n that_o the_o spirit_n work_v free_o as_o in_o the_o the_o like_a to_o hinder_v our_o true_a judgement_n thereof_o or_o the_o further_a thrive_a therein_o and_o now_o we_o shall_v be_v more_o privy_a to_o the_o deceitfullnesse_n of_o our_o heart_n and_o power_n of_o corruption_n which_o without_o his_o special_a grace_n may_v distract_v and_o confound_v we_o in_o the_o same_o yea_o we_o shall_v want_v great_a opposition_n from_o without_o by_o slander_n persecution_n and_o to_o discourage_v and_o deject_v therein_o and_o therefore_o herein_o the_o liberty_n of_o the_o spirit_n do_v appear_v more_o wise_o and_o glorious_o either_o suspending_a some_o operation_n thereof_o which_o may_v cause_v those_o spiritual_a end_n or_o leave_v we_o to_o some_o outward_a evil_n to_o purge_v out_o those_o that_o be_v inward_a and_o yet_o sustain_v we_o wonderful_o with_o secret_a evidence_n to_o control_v the_o deceitfulnes_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o satisfy_v we_o gracious_o against_o the_o challenge_n thereof_o and_o to_o comfort_v we_o also_o in_o the_o great_a sense_n of_o inward_a corruption_n yea_o mighty_o arm_v we_o with_o inward_a power_n to_o overcome_v all_o outward_a opposition_n and_o recompense_v the_o same_o improve_v the_o same_o aright_o and_o so_o still_o to_o go_v forward_o and_o also_o wise_o temper_v our_o best_a endeavour_n with_o many_o interruption_n and_o disappointment_n that_o so_o the_o flesh_n may_v be_v abase_v and_o all_o carnal_a glory_n confound_v but_o of_o this_o before_o in_o the_o open_n of_o that_o resemblance_n a_o sixth_o rule_n hereto_o be_v that_o the_o power_n of_o
