else_o can_v think_v mean_a of_o this_o performance_n than_o i_o myself_o do_v for_o beside_o the_o great_a hurry_n and_o disorder_n that_o i_o be_v in_o upon_o the_o loss_n of_o such_o a_o patron_n we_o my_o lord_n i_o be_o sufficient_o conscious_a how_o unfit_a i_o be_o to_o appear_v in_o public_a especial_o upon_o such_o a_o nice_a and_o great_a subject_n as_o his_o lordship_n particular_a command_n bring_v i_o to_o the_o pulpit_n so_o you_o only_a have_v bring_v i_o to_o the_o press_n and_o therefore_o i_o hope_v whatever_o usage_n the_o follow_a discourse_n may_v meet_v with_o abroad_o i_o shall_v always_o find_v a_o shelter_n in_o your_o ladyship_n favour_n and_o the_o rather_o because_o you_o can_v both_o of_o you_o large_o attest_v the_o truth_n of_o most_o of_o the_o remarkable_a occurrence_n that_o i_o have_v take_v notice_n of_o during_o his_o lordship_n penitential_a sickness_n i_o shall_v add_v nothing_o more_o but_o wish_v you_o may_v never_o forget_v the_o goodness_n of_o almighty_a god_n who_o through_o this_o whole_a melancholy_a scene_n have_v signalise_v his_o good_a providence_n to_o you_o both_o and_o that_o you_o may_v ever_o live_v under_o the_o special_a protection_n thereof_o be_v the_o constant_a prayer_n of_o your_o honour_n most_o faithful_a and_o most_o obedient_a humble_a servant_n robert_z parson_n adderbury_n aug._n 30._o 1680._o st._n luke_n 15.7_o i_o say_v unto_o you_o that_o likewise_o joy_n shall_v be_v in_o heaven_n over_o one_o sinner_n that_o repent_v more_o than_o over_o ninety_o and_o nine_o just_a person_n that_o need_v no_o repentance_n if_o ever_o there_o be_v a_o subject_n that_o may_v deserve_v and_o exhaust_v all_o the_o treasure_n of_o religious_a eloquence_n in_o the_o description_n of_o so_o great_a a_o man_n and_o so_o great_a a_o sinner_n as_o now_o lie_v before_o we_o together_o with_o the_o wonder_n of_o the_o divine_a goodness_n in_o make_v he_o as_o great_a a_o penitent_a i_o think_v the_o present_a occasion_n afford_v one_o as_o remarkable_a as_o any_o place_n or_o age_n can_v produce_v indeed_o so_o great_a and_o full_a a_o matter_n it_o be_v that_o it_o be_v too_o big_a to_o come_v out_o of_o my_o mouth_n and_o perhaps_o not_o all_o of_o it_o fit_a or_o needful_a so_o to_o do_v the_o greatness_n of_o his_o part_n be_v well_o enough_o know_v and_o of_o his_o sin_n too_o well_o in_o the_o world_n and_o neither_o my_o capacity_n nor_o experience_n nor_o my_o profession_n will_v allow_v i_o to_o be_v so_o proper_a a_o judge_n either_o of_o the_o one_o or_o the_o other_o only_o as_o god_n have_v be_v please_v to_o make_v i_o a_o long_a while_o a_o sad_a spectator_n and_o a_o secret_a mourner_n for_o his_o sin_n so_o have_v he_o at_o last_o gracious_o hear_v the_o prayer_n of_o his_o near_a relation_n and_o true_a friend_n for_o his_o conversion_n and_o repentance_n and_o it_o be_v the_o good_a tiding_n of_o that_o especial_o what_o god_n have_v do_v for_o his_o soul_n that_o i_o be_o now_o to_o publish_v and_o tell_v abroad_o to_o the_o world_n not_o only_o by_o the_o obligation_n of_o my_o office_n in_o which_o i_o have_v the_o honour_n to_o be_v a_o weak_a minister_n to_o it_o but_o by_o his_o own_o express_a and_o die_a command_n now_o although_o to_o describe_v this_o worthy_o will_v require_v a_o wit_n equal_a to_o that_o with_o which_o he_o live_v and_o a_o devotion_n too_o equal_a to_o that_o with_o which_o he_o die_v and_o to_o match_v either_o will_v be_v a_o very_a hard_a task_n yet_o beside_o that_o i_o be_o not_o sufficient_a for_o these_o thing_n for_o who_o be_v and_o that_o my_o thought_n have_v be_v rather_o private_o busy_v to_o secure_v a_o real_a repentance_n to_o himself_o whilst_o live_v than_o to_o publish_v it_o abroad_o to_o other_o in_o artificial_a dress_n after_o he_o be_v dead_a i_o say_v beside_o all_o this_o i_o think_v i_o shall_v have_v less_o need_n to_o call_v in_o the_o aid_n of_o secular_a eloquence_n the_o proper_a habit_n of_o repentance_n be_v not_o fine_a linen_n or_o any_o delicate_a array_n such_o as_o be_v use_v in_o the_o court_n or_o king_n house_n but_o sackcloth_n and_o ash_n and_o the_o way_n which_o god_n almighty_a take_v to_o convey_v it_o be_v not_o by_o the_o word_n of_o man_n wisdom_n but_o by_o the_o plainness_n of_o his_o write_a word_n assist_v by_o the_o inward_a power_n and_o demonstration_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o the_o effect_n it_o work_v and_o by_o which_o it_o discover_v itself_o be_v not_o any_o rapture_n of_o wit_n and_o fancy_n but_o the_o most_o humble_a prostration_n both_o of_o soul_n and_o spirit_n and_o the_o captivate_a all_o humane_a imagination_n to_o the_o obedience_n of_o a_o despise_a religion_n and_o a_o crucify_a saviour_n and_o it_o be_v in_o this_o array_n i_o intend_v to_o bring_v out_o this_o penitent_a to_o you_o a_o array_n which_o i_o be_o sure_a he_o more_o value_v and_o desire_v to_o appear_v in_o both_o to_o god_n and_o the_o world_n than_o in_o all_o the_o triumph_n of_o wit_n and_o gallantry_n and_o therefore_o wave_v all_o these_o rhetorical_a flourish_n as_o beneath_o the_o solemnity_n of_o the_o occasion_n and_o the_o majesty_n of_o that_o great_a and_o weighty_a truth_n i_o be_o now_o to_o deliver_v i_o shall_v content_v myself_o with_o the_o office_n of_o a_o plain_a historian_n to_o relate_v faithful_o and_o impartial_o what_o i_o see_v and_o hear_v especial_o during_o his_o penitential_a sorrow_n which_o if_o all_o that_o hear_v i_o this_o day_n have_v be_v spectator_n of_o there_o will_v then_o have_v be_v no_o need_n of_o a_o sermon_n to_o convince_v man_n but_o every_o man_n will_v have_v be_v as_o much_o a_o preacher_n to_o himself_o of_o this_o truth_n as_o i_o be_o except_o these_o sorrow_n and_o yet_o even_o these_o sorrow_n shall_v be_v turn_v into_o joy_n too_o if_o we_o will_v only_o do_v what_o we_o pray_v for_o that_o the_o will_n of_o god_n may_v be_v do_v in_o earth_n as_o it_o be_v in_o heaven_n for_o so_o our_o bless_a lord_n assure_v we_o i_o say_v unto_o you_o that_o likewise_o joy_n shall_v be_v in_o heaven_n over_o one_o sinner_n that_o repent_v etc._n etc._n from_o which_o i_o shall_v consider_v 1._o the_o sinner_n particular_o that_o be_v before_o we_o 2._o the_o repentance_n of_o this_o sinner_n together_o with_o the_o mean_n the_o time_n and_o all_o probable_a sincerity_n of_o it_o 3._o the_o joy_n that_o be_v in_o heaven_n and_o shall_v be_v on_o earth_n for_o the_o repentance_n of_o this_o sinner_n 4._o the_o comparative_a greatness_n and_o preeminence_n of_o this_o joy_n on_o the_o account_n of_o his_o example_n that_o be_v and_o shall_v be_v for_o the_o repentance_n of_o this_o sinner_n more_o than_o for_o the_o constant_a and_o uniform_a virtuousness_n of_o any_o good_a liver_n which_o will_v natural_o lead_v i_o to_o my_o five_o and_o last_o particular_a to_o a_o special_a address_n or_o application_n to_o all_o that_o hear_v i_o that_o they_o will_v all_o join_v in_o this_o joy_n in_o praise_n and_o thanksgiving_n to_o god_n for_o the_o conversion_n of_o this_o sinner_n and_o if_o there_o be_v any_o that_o have_v be_v like_o he_o in_o their_o sin_n that_o they_o will_v also_o speedy_o imitate_v he_o in_o their_o repentance_n and_o 1._o let_v we_o consider_v the_o person_n before_o we_o as_o he_o certain_o be_v a_o great_a sinner_n but_o because_o man_n be_v upright_o before_o he_o be_v a_o sinner_n and_o to_o measure_v the_o greatness_n of_o his_o fall_n it_o will_v be_v necessary_a to_o take_v a_o view_n of_o that_o height_n from_o which_o he_o fall_v give_v i_o leave_v to_o go_v back_o a_o little_a to_o look_v into_o the_o rock_n from_o which_o he_o be_v hew_v the_o quality_n family_n education_n and_o personal_a accomplishment_n of_o this_o great_a man_n in_o do_v of_o which_o i_o think_v no_o man_n will_v charge_v i_o with_o any_o design_n of_o customary_a flattery_n or_o formality_n since_o i_o intend_v only_o thereby_o to_o show_v the_o greatness_n and_o unhappiness_n of_o his_o folly_n in_o the_o pervert_n so_o many_o excellent_a ability_n and_o advantage_n for_o virtue_n and_o piety_n in_o the_o service_n of_o sin_n and_o so_o become_v
