design_n be_v to_o make_v man_n entire_o obedient_a and_o true_o holy_a it_o be_v evident_a that_o a_o desire_n so_o to_o be_v be_v the_o most_o excellent_a and_o necessary_a qualification_n for_o that_o purpose_n our_o saviour_n say_v john_n 7._o 17._o if_o any_o man_n will_v do_v his_o will_n or_o be_v willing_a to_o do_v it_o he_o shall_v know_v of_o the_o doctrine_n whether_o it_o be_v of_o and_o make_v that_o ill_a use_n of_o they_o as_o to_o be_v persuade_v by_o they_o to_o let_v go_v his_o hold_n of_o any_o fundamental_a article_n of_o the_o christian_a religion_n for_o our_o saviour_n have_v so_o infinite_o concern_v himself_o for_o the_o destroy_n of_o sin_n in_o we_o and_o to_o make_v we_o partaker_n of_o his_o holiness_n as_o to_o aim_v at_o this_o above_o all_o thing_n in_o all_o he_o do_v and_o suffer_v in_o the_o world_n and_o to_o make_v it_o the_o whole_a business_n of_o his_o gospel_n we_o may_v be_v certain_a that_o those_o honest_a soul_n that_o come_v to_o the_o study_n of_o it_o with_o a_o desire_n of_o reap_v this_o advantage_n by_o it_o can_v be_v leave_v destitute_a of_o christ_n grace_n and_o blessing_n to_o make_v it_o successful_a to_o they_o for_o that_o purpose_n which_o it_o be_v impossible_a it_o shall_v be_v without_o a_o thorow-belief_n of_o it_o and_o a_o right_a understanding_n of_o at_o least_o all_o its_o absolute_o will_v help_v we_o to_o judge_v without_o prejudice_n and_o partiality_n concern_v it_o and_o the_o particular_a doctrine_n therein_o contain_v he_o who_o hearty_a desire_v it_o be_v to_o please_v god_n in_o do_v his_o will_n will_v be_v unbiased_a in_o his_o judgement_n in_o inquiry_n after_o it_o he_o know_v that_o he_o can_v make_v that_o to_o be_v truth_n by_o think_v one_o way_n or_o other_o which_o be_v not_o before_o so_o and_o that_o truth_n will_v be_v truth_n whatsoever_o he_o think_v on_o it_o and_o therefore_o do_v not_o wish_v that_o this_o or_o that_o may_v be_v so_o and_o then_o endeavour_v to_o persuade_v himself_o that_o it_o be_v so_o
but_o will_v only_o examine_v what_o be_v so_o that_o he_o may_v not_o entertain_v a_o erroneous_a persuasion_n he_o will_v bring_v his_o mind_n to_o the_o gospel_n and_o not_o wrest_v the_o gospel_n to_o his_o mind_n but_o vice_n and_o sin_n be_v allow_v and_o predominant_a in_o the_o soul_n must_v needs_o warp_v the_o judgement_n and_o clap_v a_o heavy_a bias_n on_o it_o that_o will_v draw_v it_o to_o favour_n as_o much_o as_o may_v be_v their_o interest_n in_o all_o matter_n it_o be_v concern_v in_o and_o therefore_o a_o man_n of_o wicked_a and_o deprave_a affection_n can_v but_o be_v exceed_o unapt_a to_o study_v a_o book_n who_o design_n be_v such_o as_o the_o gospel_n be_v but_o the_o obediently-disposed_n will_v bring_v free_a ingenuous_a and_o candid_a spirit_n to_o this_o work_n and_o therefore_o be_v very_o fit_o prepare_v to_o do_v it_o with_o good_a success_n second_o this_o honest_a and_o sincere_a temper_n of_o mind_n will_v help_v a_o man_n to_o evidence_n for_o his_o satisfaction_n concern_v the_o main_a doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n far_o excel_v any_o that_o can_v arise_v from_o mere_a speculation_n â—…_n namely_o that_o of_o sense_n and_o experience_n the_o man_n that_o be_v endue_v with_o it_o shall_v know_v of_o the_o doctrine_n that_o it_o be_v of_o god_n he_o shall_v not_o only_o believe_v it_o according_a to_o the_o strict_a notion_n of_o that_o phrase_n there_o be_v a_o inward_a sweetness_n in_o holy_a truth_n that_o a_o good_a soul_n will_v relish_v and_o savour_n but_o the_o vitiate_a palate_n of_o those_o that_o be_v in_o love_n with_o any_o lust_n can_v taste_v it_o how_o sweet_a say_v david_n be_v thy_o word_n unto_o my_o taste_n yea_o sweet_a than_o honey_n unto_o my_o mouth_n now_o naked_a demonstration_n give_v but_o very_o poor_a and_o slight_a satisfaction_n in_o comparison_n of_o that_o knowledge_n that_o arise_v from_o sense_n and_o experience_n and_o this_o latter_a alone_o will_v remove_v from_o we_o all_o in_o those_o point_n of_o the_o gospel_n that_o be_v of_o weighty_a importance_n it_o be_v undoubted_o certain_a that_o mistake_v about_o these_o can_v possible_o arise_v from_o the_o obscurity_n of_o that_o book_n it_o be_v as_o plain_a as_o heart_n can_v wish_v in_o all_o matter_n of_o absolute_a necessity_n as_o have_v be_v show_v in_o the_o free_a discourse_n therefore_o error_n that_o be_v of_o a_o damnable_a nature_n must_v necessary_o proceed_v from_o vicious_a cause_n such_o as_o 1._o gross_a ignorance_n but_o it_o be_v not_o possible_a to_o find_v this_o in_o any_o soul_n that_o
