good_a duty_n that_o any_o of_o we_o shall_v content_v ourselves_o to_o know_v god_n only_o far_o off_o and_o aloof_o as_o we_o may_v say_v as_o the_o manner_n of_o the_o most_o be_v but_o it_o be_v our_o duty_n most_o careful_o to_o prepare_v ourselves_o to_o draw_v near_o to_o he_o in_o the_o reverend_a fear_n of_o his_o most_o gracious_a majesty_n we_o must_v grow_v from_o faith_n to_o faith_n as_o it_o be_v from_o one_o age_n of_o christianity_n to_o another_o from_o childhood_n to_o man_n estate_n etc._n etc._n we_o must_v serve_v god_n both_o outward_o and_o inward_o with_o body_n and_o with_o soul_n even_o from_o the_o most_o secret_a and_o hide_a power_n and_o inclination_n thereof_o these_o be_v brief_o the_o excellent_a instruction_n contain_v in_o these_o holy_a scripture_n in_o the_o urge_v whereof_o i_o be_v and_o now_o be_o still_o the_o more_o earnest_a because_o whereas_o every_o one_o seem_v to_o lay_v ready_a hold_n on_o this_o that_o god_n be_v good_a and_o that_o he_o be_v a_o merciful_a god_n as_o he_o be_v indeed_o very_o few_o make_v conscience_n to_o reason_n from_o his_o mercy_n to_o provoke_v themselves_o thereby_o to_o be_v more_o careful_a to_o serve_v and_o obey_v he_o yea_o so_o much_o the_o rather_o have_v i_o be_v the_o more_o earnest_n as_o my_o duty_n bind_v i_o because_o the_o most_o part_n of_o people_n do_v most_o undutiful_o and_o ungratious_o abuse_v all_o the_o goodness_n and_o mercy_n of_o god_n to_o embolden_v themselves_o to_o security_n yea_o to_o a_o great_a licentiousness_n in_o their_o sin_n which_o no_o doubt_n be_v a_o most_o grievous_a and_o horrible_a sin_n in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n and_o can_v but_o very_o fearful_o endanger_v all_o such_o graceless_a person_n to_o the_o most_o heavy_a wrath_n of_o god_n question_n now_o therefore_o in_o the_o last_o place_n what_o proof_n have_v you_o for_o the_o danger_n of_o general_a unbelief_n answer_n and_o disobedience_n to_o the_o gospel_n in_o the_o 2._o chapter_n of_o the_o epistle_n to_o the_o hebrew_n verse_n 1_o 2_o 3_o 4._o thus_o write_v the_o apostle_n 1_o wherefore_o we_o ought_v diligent_o to_o give_v heed_n to_o the_o thing_n which_o we_o have_v hear_v lest_o at_o any_o time_n we_o shall_v let_v they_o slip_v 2_o for_o if_o the_o word_n speak_v by_o angel_n be_v steadfast_a and_o every_o transgression_n and_o disobedience_n receive_v a_o just_a recompense_n of_o reward_n 3_o how_o shall_v we_o escape_v if_o we_o neglect_v so_o great_a salvation_n which_o at_o the_o first_o begin_v to_o be_v preach_v by_o the_o lord_n and_o afterward_o be_v confirm_v to_o we_o by_o they_o that_o hear_v he_o 4_o god_n bear_v witness_n thereunto_o both_o with_o sign_n and_o wonder_n and_o with_o diverse_a miracle_n and_o gift_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n according_a to_o his_o own_o wil._n explication_n explication_n here_o we_o have_v a_o three_o fold_v comparison_n one_o betwixt_o the_o law_n and_o the_o gospel_n another_o betwixt_o the_o chief_a instrument_n which_o god_n use_v to_o publish_v his_o law_n to_o wit_n his_o holy_a angel_n and_o the_o chief_a publisher_n of_o the_o gospel_n that_o be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n himself_o of_o infinite_a excellency_n and_o authority_n above_o all_o angel_n the_o three_o betwixt_o the_o contrary_a use_n and_o end_n of_o the_o one_o and_o of_o the_o other_o the_o law_n by_o reason_n of_o sin_n arm_v the_o curse_n through_o the_o righteous_a judgement_n of_o god_n but_o the_o gospel_n offer_v salvation_n to_o all_o true_a believer_n through_o the_o free_a grace_n and_o mercy_n of_o god_n all_o of_o these_o comparison_n agree_v in_o this_o general_o to_o declare_v the_o exceed_a great_a danger_n of_o not_o believe_v &_o of_o not_o obey_v the_o gospel_n insomuch_o as_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n most_o gracious_o and_o most_o honourable_o offer_v thereby_o even_o to_o the_o eternal_a salvation_n of_o all_o such_o as_o will_v thankful_o receive_v it_o be_v most_o wretched_o despise_v and_o reject_v through_o unbelief_n we_o know_v also_o what_o our_o saviour_n the_o son_n of_o god_n himself_o have_v most_o fearful_o pronounce_v matth_n chap._n 11.20_o 21_o &c_n &c_n namely_o that_o it_o shall_v be_v easy_a for_o the_o citizen_n of_o tyrus_n and_o sidon_n and_o for_o they_o of_o the_o land_n of_o sodom_n in_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n then_o for_o such_o as_o neglect_v his_o gospel_n ratify_v and_o confirm_v by_o so_o many_o miracle_n as_o he_o wrought_v to_o the_o same_o end_n read_v also_o heb._n chap._n 10.26_o etc._n etc._n and_o chap._n 12.18_o etc._n etc._n 29._o the_o like_a amplification_n of_o the_o greatness_n of_o this_o sin_n agreeable_a to_o the_o former_a testimony_n and_o declaration_n in_o the_o second_o chapter_n it_o be_v a_o most_o fearful_a say_n which_o we_o read_v 2._o thes_n 1.7_o 8_o 9_o 10._o where_o the_o apostle_n affirm_v that_o the_o lord_n jesus_n shall_v show_v himself_o from_o heaven_n with_o his_o mighty_a angel_n in_o flame_a fire_n render_v vengeance_n unto_o they_o that_o do_v not_o know_v god_n and_o which_o obey_v not_o unto_o the_o gospel_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n who_o shall_v be_v punish_v with_o everlasting_a perd_a tion_n from_o the_o presence_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o from_o the_o glory_n of_o his_o power_n when_o he_o shall_v come_v to_o be_v glorify_v in_o his_o saint_n and_o to_o be_v make_v marvellous_a in_o all_o they_o that_o believe_v likewise_o in_o the_o first_o epistle_n of_o peter_n chap._n 4._o verse_n 17_o 18._o the_o time_n be_v come_v say_v the_o apostle_n that_o judgement_n must_v begin_v at_o the_o house_n of_o god_n if_o it_o first_o begin_v at_o we_o what_o shall_v be_v the_o end_n of_o they_o which_o obey_v not_o the_o gospel_n of_o god_n and_o if_o the_o righteous_a be_v scarce_o save_v where_o shall_v the_o ungodly_a and_o the_o sinner_n appear_v the_o greatness_n and_o consequent_o the_o danger_n of_o the_o sin_n of_o unbelief_n be_v notable_o express_v by_o the_o apostle_n john_n in_o his_o first_o epistle_n chap._n 5._o verse_n 10._o in_o that_o he_o say_v that_o it_o be_v even_o as_o much_o as_o if_o one_o shall_v go_v about_o to_o make_v god_n a_o liar_n which_o be_v most_o horrible_a once_o to_o think_v read_v also_o 2._o epist_n verses_z 8_o 9_o look_v to_o yourselves_o say_v he_o to_o that_o elect_a lady_n to_o who_o he_o write_v and_o to_o her_o child_n that_o we_o lose_v not_o the_o thing_n which_o we_o have_v do_v but_o that_o we_o may_v receive_v a_o full_a reward_n whosoever_o transgress_v and_o abide_v not_o in_o the_o doctrine_n of_o christ_n have_v not_o god_n but_o contrariwise_o as_o it_o follow_v in_o the_o same_o verse_n he_o that_o continue_v in_o the_o doctrine_n of_o christ_n he_o have_v danger_n of_o unbelief_n and_o disobedience_n to_o the_o gospel_n read_v the_o fearful_a but_o most_o true_a doctrine_n of_o our_o saviour_n christ_n john_n 3._o verse_n 18_o 19.20_o 21._o he_o that_o believe_v in_o the_o son_n shall_v not_o be_v condemn_v but_o he_o that_o believe_v not_o be_v condemn_v already_o because_o he_o believe_v not_o in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o only_o beget_v son_n of_o god_n and_o this_o be_v the_o condemnation_n that_o light_n be_v come_v into_o the_o world_n and_o man_n love_v darkness_n rather_o than_o light_n because_o their_o deed_n be_v evil_a for_o every_o 13.12.13.14.15.16_o where_o after_o that_o our_o saviour_n have_v wash_v his_o disciple_n foot_n he_o do_v from_o his_o own_o example_n teach_v they_o true_a love_n and_o humility_n two_o special_a ground_n of_o godliness_n and_o therefore_o he_o say_v express_o i_o have_v give_v you_o a_o example_n that_o you_o shall_v do_v even_o as_o i_o have_v do_v to_o you_o very_o very_o i_o say_v unto_o the_o law_n of_o god_n for_o otherwise_o the_o call_n of_o our_o saviour_n christ_n in_o that_o he_o be_v anoint_v to_o be_v the_o redeemer_n justifier_n sanctifier_n and_o everlasting_a saviour_n of_o the_o church_n of_o god_n it_o be_v so_o peculiar_a and_o proper_a unto_o he_o that_o no_o creature_n neither_o angel_n or_o man_n can_v follow_v he_o in_o one_o step_v thereof_o god_n have_v make_v he_o alone_o to_o be_v wisdom_n righteousness_n holiness_n and_o redemption_n unto_o we_o 1._o cor_n 1.30_o neither_o be_v there_o any_o other_o name_n either_o in_o heaven_n or_o in_o earth_n whereby_o we_o may_v be_v save_v act_n 4.12_o in_o this_o respect_n he_o alone_o both_o might_n and_o can_v by_o his_o divine_a power_n work_v the_o work_n of_o god_n and_o although_o the_o apostle_n shall_v do_v great_a work_n than_o he_o do_v john_n 14.12_o yet_o they_o do_v they_o not_o in_o their_o own_o name_n or_o by_o their_o own_o power_n as_o they_o do_v confess_v act_n 3.12.16_o but_o only_o as_o the_o instrument_n and_o servant_n of_o christ_n appoint_v by_o himself_o and_o enable_v by_o the_o power_n of_o faith_n thereunto_o for_o as_o touch_v those_o that_o without_o the_o call_n of_o our_o saviour_n presume_v to_o attempt_v such_o miraculous_a work_n as_o they_o wrought_v they_o find_v by_o miserable_a experience_n how_o vain_a their_o attempt_n be_v as_o we_o read_v act_n 19.13.14.15.16_o to_o the_o end_n therefore_o we_o may_v be_v true_a imitator_n of_o our_o saviour_n christ_n every_o one_o of_o we_o and_o principal_o the_o minister_n of_o the_o word_n and_o gospel_n of_o christ_n must_v look_v diligent_o to_o the_o duty_n of_o their_o several_a calling_n that_o so_o they_o in_o their_o place_n may_v shine_v as_o light_n to_o the_o rest_n and_o that_o all_o christian_n after_o their_o example_n may_v walk_v as_o child_n of_o the_o light_n every_o one_o follow_v other_o so_o far_o as_o any_o do_v follow_v our_o saviour_n christ_n according_a to_o that_o of_o the_o holy_a apostle_n allege_v a_o while_n since_o be_v you_o follower_n of_o i_o as_o i_o be_o of_o christ_n the_o reason_n thereof_o be_v for_o that_o though_o there_o be_v many_o example_n of_o godliness_n record_v in_o the_o holy_a scripture_n and_o many_o also_o to_o be_v see_v in_o the_o church_n of_o god_n from_o time_n to_o time_n yet_o there_o be_v very_o few_o nay_o rather_o none_o at_o all_o wherein_o there_o be_v not_o some_o great_a sin_n and_o blemish_n in_o their_o life_n wherein_o they_o ought_v to_o be_v shun_v and_o not_o follow_v and_o therefore_o we_o be_v always_o to_o have_v a_o principal_a regard_n to_o the_o example_n of_o all_o example_n even_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n who_o alone_o as_o be_v note_v in_o the_o beginning_n be_v the_o only_a clear_a &_o perfect_a light_n both_o for_o doctrine_n and_o life_n through_o the_o whole_a course_n thereof_o in_o every_o age_n and_o condition_n of_o the_o same_o both_o public_o and_o private_o under_o his_o parent_n and_o otherwise_o as_o have_v be_v declare_v before_o now_o second_o as_o touch_v our_o imitate_v and_o follow_v of_o our_o saviour_n christ_n in_o the_o patient_a and_o meek_a endure_v of_o the_o cross_n that_o be_v of_o every_o kind_n of_o affliction_n while_o we_o walk_v in_o his_o holy_a way_n though_o not_o to_o such_o end_n as_o our_o saviour_n suffer_v in_o that_o he_o be_v a_o mediator_n betwixt_o god_n and_o we_o to_o make_v satisfaction_n for_o our_o sin_n etc._n etc._n yet_o to_o declare_v the_o truth_n both_o of_o our_o obedience_n to_o god_n &_o also_o of_o our_o love_n to_o our_o saviour_n &_o his_o church_n we_o read_v first_o the_o instruction_n and_o encouragement_n of_o our_o sa_o himself_o hereunto_o mat_n 11.28.29_o come_v unto_o i_o all_o you_o that_o be_v weary_a &_o lade_v and_o i_o will_v ease_v you_o take_v my_o yoke_n on_o you_o and_o learn_v of_o i_o in_o that_o i_o be_o meek_a and_o lowly_a in_o heart_n to_o wit_n in_o
