the_o word_n of_o faith_n which_o be_v indeed_o most_o reasonable_a self-denial_n will_v take_v a_o man_n off_o from_o self-conceitedness_a from_o be_v wed_v to_o his_o own_o opinion_n self-denial_n will_v be_v pull_v down_o strong_a hold_n of_o carnal_a reason_n with_o every_o high_a thing_n that_o exalt_v itself_o against_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n as_o the_o apostle_n say_v we_o can_v do_v fire_n cast_v into_o god_n sanctuary_n these_o thing_n will_v show_v miserable_a selfishness_n not_o self-denial_n 17._o self-denial_n will_v teach_v we_o to_o account_v ourselves_o more_o happy_a in_o serve_v please_a honour_v and_o enjoy_v god_n than_o in_o have_v our_o flesh_n please_v in_o prosper_v or_o be_v ourselves_o advance_v in_o the_o world_n self-denial_n will_v cause_v we_o to_o be_v better_o satisfy_v though_o the_o flesh_n be_v pinch_v and_o cross_v while_o our_o soul_n prosper_v while_o grace_n be_v vigorous_a and_o thrive_a and_o while_o communion_n and_o intercourse_n with_o god_n be_v maintain_v then_o if_o our_o soul_n be_v sensible_o decline_v grace_n impair_v our_o heart_n more_o straighten_a in_o holy_a duty_n etc._n etc._n though_o thing_n go_v never_o so_o stake_n to_o run_v with_o the_o footman_n but_o not_o to_o contend_v with_o horse_n as_o be_v indeed_o notable_o observe_v 31._o mr._n baxt._n self-denial_n p._n 31._o a_o man_n may_v deny_v self_n for_o self_n in_o many_o particular_n and_o so_o may_v please_v self_n more_o than_o he_o deny_v it_o this_o be_v no_o true_a self-denial_n i_o will_v not_o be_v unfaithful_a to_o you_o and_o so_o i_o
