understanding_n in_o the_o fall_n by_o this_o phrase_n way_n i_o perceive_v he_o intend_v the_o mean_n by_o which_o we_o understand_v which_o mean_v as_o it_o have_v relation_n to_o spiritual_a and_o divine_a knowledge_n man_n die_v to_o for_o in_o the_o first_o adam_n all_o die_v and_o become_v separate_v from_o it_o through_o sin_n and_o transgresgression_n consequent_o the_o divine_a light_n be_v no_o long_o his_o natural_a and_o ordinary_a way_n of_o understanding_n in_o that_o sense_n poor_a fall_v and_o degenerate_v man_n have_v instead_o thereof_o suck_v in_o another_o spirit_n and_o wisdom_n and_o knowledge_n from_o the_o serpent_n to_o which_o he_o give_v up_o the_o exercise_n of_o his_o rational_a power_n and_o life_n now_o the_o question_n be_v how_o can_v man_n thus_o lose_v and_o undo_v come_v to_o be_v redeem_v &_o restore_v out_o of_o this_o miserable_a estate_n of_o nature_n in_o the_o fall_n wherein_o he_o be_v both_o deprive_v of_o the_o principle_n of_o his_o divine_a knowledge_n and_o of_o the_o primitive_a purity_n of_o his_o reasonable_a &_o understand_a spirit_n in_o his_o first_o creation_n but_o in_o and_o by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o new_a creation_n which_o be_v alone_o effect_v by_o christ_n jesus_n the_o promise_a seed_n the_o second_o adam_n the_o lord_n from_o heaven_n the_o quicken_a spirit_n which_o promise_v seed_n be_v foretell_v shall_v bruise_v the_o serpent_n head_n and_o this_o be_v superadditional_a as_o well_o as_o supernatural_a grace_n otherwise_o man_n have_v perish_v and_o that_o without_o remedy_n and_o this_o be_v absolute_o necessary_a to_o a_o spiritual_a life_n and_o divine_a understanding_n nevertheless_o man_n may_v have_v and_o that_o in_o a_o true_a sense_n to_o a_o large_a understanding_n and_o apprehension_n of_o thing_n in_o his_o brain_n without_o its_o immediate_a guidance_n which_o render_v his_o notion_n of_o the_o light_n viz._n that_o it_o be_v so_o much_o the_o natural_a and_o ordinary_a way_n of_o man_n understanding_n that_o there_o be_v no_o understanding_n without_o it_o unsafe_a to_o be_v say_v absolute_o because_o without_o it_o that_o be_v to_o say_v without_o the_o sense_n and_o feel_n of_o its_o divine_a operation_n upon_o the_o soul_n to_o influence_n and_o illuminate_v it_o man_n whilst_o dead_a to_o god_n may_v be_v alive_a in_o the_o corrupt_a nature_n feed_v upon_o the_o tree_n of_o knowledge_n of_o good_a and_o evil_a though_o it_o be_v grant_v that_o as_o this_o divine_a light_n be_v christ_n the_o word_n by_o who_o be_v all_o thing_n and_o he_o in_o and_o through_o all_o thing_n and_o by_o he_o all_o thing_n consist_v col._n 1.17_o man_n can_v strict_o be_v say_v to_o be_v without_o it_o in_o that_o sense_n though_o he_o may_v in_o the_o other_o viz._n as_o he_o be_v se●t_v forth_o from_o the_o bosom_n of_o the_o father_n to_o be_v man_n light_n and_o saviour_n in_o this_o sense_n the_o scripture_n make_v mention_n of_o some_o that_o live_v without_o god_n in_o the_o world_n and_o contrary_a to_o this_o be_v not_o to_o be_v infer_v from_o any_o thing_n r._n b._n have_v write_v that_o i_o know_v of_o j._n n._n in_o his_o answer_n confirm_v what_o be_v say_v in_o the_o last_o section_n concern_v the_o quaker_n make_v the_o divine_a light_n a_o extraordinary_a communication_n that_o be_v superaccessary_a to_o the_o natural_a light_n etc._n etc._n ●_o do_v it_o so_o it_o confirm_v then_o what_o no_o quaker_n ever_o deny_v that_o i_o know_v of_o but_o that_o other_o inferrence_n of_o he_o viz._n that_o man_n natural_a the_o deep_a thing_n of_o god_n different_a in_o its_o mode_n and_o manner_n of_o its_o operation_n with_o respect_n to_o the_o different_a nature_n of_o the_o knowledge_n and_o subject_n it_o work_v upon_o make_v use_n in_o each_o of_o its_o proper_a organ_n viz._n the_o spiritual_a sense_n of_o the_o soul_n which_o have_v their_o root_n life_n and_o be_v in_o a_o measure_n of_o this_o divine_a light_n for_o the_o divine_a knowledge_n of_o heavenly_a thing_n and_o the_o inferior_a faculty_n of_o the_o soul_n viz._n the_o rational_a and_o intellectual_a power_n for_o the_o knowledge_n of_o human_a and_o natural_a thing_n though_o i_o do_v not_o hereby_o deny_v but_o god_n have_v and_o may_v supernatural_o convey_v to_o some_o man_n the_o certain_a knowledge_n of_o some_o necessary_a human_a art_n and_o science_n and_o such_o their_o knowledge_n be_v divine_a and_o extraordinary_a but_o j._n n._n take_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o pain_n to_o improve_v this_o his_o mistake_a proposition_n and_o will_v needs_o have_v the_o quaker_n principle_n natural_o to_o lead_v they_o to_o it_o because_o they_o conceive_v and_o represent_v this_o divine_a light_n to_o be_v that_o very_a grace_n of_o christ_n whereby_o man_n be_v convert_v and_o save_v quote_v r._n b._n again_o in_o the_o 5_o and_o 6_o proposition_n pag._n 317._o where_o reckon_v up_o the_o end_n and_o purpose_n for_o which_o this_o save_n and_o spiritual_a light_n be_v give_v by_o god_n make_v they_o consist_v in_o make_v manifest_a all_o thing_n that_o be_v reprovable_a in_o teach_v all_o argument_n to_o which_o there_o need_v not_o be_v more_o say_v then_o revert_v of_o it_o viz._n as_o the_o quaker_n do_v not_o confine_v the_o divine_a light_n pure_o or_o only_o to_o spiritual_a thing_n so_o they_o ought_v not_o thus_o to_o confine_v it●_n for_o grace_n have_v to_o do_v with_o thing_n of_o nature_n the_o spirit_n search_v all_o thing_n and_o be_v that_o wisdom_n that_o know_v betwixt_o god_n and_o man_n infer_v that_o though_o the_o spirit_n of_o truth_n be_v real_o and_o true_o god_n that_o they_o testify_v against_o themselves_o and_o declare_v contradiction_n in_o make_v the_o light_n to_o be_v one_o and_o the_o same_o with_o the_o spirit_n of_o truth_n and_o that_o then_o he_o say_v it_o be_v no_o great_a matter_n what_o they_o testify_v and_o declare_v to_o which_o i_o answer_v this_o be_v a_o general_a reflection_n and_o charge_n upon_o his_o own_o mistake_a consequence_n concern_v christ_n the_o light_n as_o he_o be_v a_o middle_a nature_n or_o be_v suppose_v this_o middle_a nature_n or_o be_v to_o be_v a_o distinct_a or_o divide_a substance_n from_o christ_n consequent_o not_o of_o the_o proper_a substance_n or_o nature_n of_o god_n but_o some_o create_v or_o material_a substance_n wherein_o he_o injurious_o infer_v in_o his_o appendix_n that_o the_o quaker_n light_n be_v a_o creature_n and_o a_o material_a creature_n he_o may_v as_o well_o say_v that_o christ_n be_v so_o too_o because_o the_o quaker_n most_o firm_o believe_v he_o be_v that_o true_a light_n which_o lighten_v every_o man_n that_o come_v into_o the_o world_n john_n 1.9_o i_o have_v already_o show_v that_o though_o christ_n have_v a_o twofold_n nature_n unite_v in_o substance_n by_o take_v the_o manhood_n into_o god_n whereby_o he_o become_v a_o middle_a nature_n and_o light_n be_v thus_o manifest_v and_o acknowledge_v by_o the_o quaker_n to_o be_v christ_n measureable_o convey_v and_o give_v to_o man_n and_o of_o his_o proper_a substance_n it_o must_v needs_o be_v one_o and_o the_o same_o with_o the_o spirit_n of_o truth_n because_o christ_n be_v so_o reveal_v in_o spirit_n as_o plain_o appear_v joh._n 16._o consequent_o no_o creature_n or_o material_a creature_n as_o j._n n._n represent_v it_o but_o a_o divine_a and_o immaterial_a substance_n wherein_o he_o be_v guilty_a of_o a_o most_o heinous_a presumption_n and_o defamation_n of_o the_o quaker_n sure_o then_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v grant_v to_o be_v a_o immaterial_a or_o increated_a substance_n hence_o it_o be_v the_o quaker_n make_v the_o light_n and_o spirit_n of_o truth_n one_o and_o the_o same_o in_o be_v consequent_o j._n n._n in_o make_v the_o quaker_n principle_n of_o the_o light_n thus_o consider_v and_o by_o he_o acknowledge_v to_o be_v hold_v by_o the_o quaker_n to_o be_v a_o creature_n and_o a_o material_a creature_n be_v to_o make_v christ_n his_o spirit_n and_o life_n so_o too_o which_o be_v not_o only_o a_o wilful_a abuse_n of_o the_o quaker_n but_o a_o gross_a piece_n of_o blasphemy_n and_o this_o be_v that_o monstrous_a birth_n he_o have_v bring_v forth_o and_o recommend_v
