fast_v of_o itself_o be_v a_o thing_n indifferent_a neither_o good_a nor_o evil_a for_o though_o it_o be_v refer_v to_o a_o religious_a end_n which_o be_v the_o humble_v of_o the_o soul_n yet_o it_o be_v not_o good_a in_o itself_o but_o only_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o end_n neither_o be_v it_o any_o part_n of_o god_n worship_n be_v so_o refer_v but_o only_o a_o prop_n and_o furtherance_n serve_v in_o the_o right_a use_n thereof_o to_o make_v a_o man_n more_o fit_a for_o the_o duty_n of_o god_n service_n three_o these_o end_n if_o they_o be_v well_o consider_v can_v be_v the_o true_a end_n of_o fast_v as_o will_v appear_v by_o this_o example_n a_o beggar_n at_o our_o door_n entreat_v a_o alm_n we_o give_v it_o and_o he_o receive_v it_o but_o will_v any_o man_n say_v that_o by_o beg_v he_o do_v merit_n or_o deserve_v his_o alm_n in_o like_a manner_n we_o be_v all_o beggar_n that_o have_v nothing_o of_o our_o own_o neither_o food_n nor_o raiment_n nor_o any_o other_o blessing_n we_o do_v enjoy_v but_o all_o we_o have_v come_v unto_o we_o only_o from_o god_n well_o upon_o just_a occasion_n we_o give_v ourselves_o to_o fast_v we_o pray_v earnest_o unto_o he_o for_o mercy_n in_o the_o pardon_n of_o our_o sin_n in_o this_o case_n be_v it_o not_o great_a madness_n to_o think_v that_o we_o by_o beg_a mercy_n can_v merit_v mercy_n at_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n but_o prayer_n say_v the_o papist_n as_o it_o be_v prayer_n merit_v nothing_o but_o as_o it_o be_v a_o good_a work_n ans._n prayer_n as_o it_o be_v a_o good_a work_n be_v no_o other_o than_o beg_v and_o than_o it_o be_v unpossible_a that_o it_o shall_v be_v meritorious_a unless_o it_o be_v grant_v that_o beg_v be_v meritorious_a which_o can_v be_v these_o reason_n consider_v i_o conclude_v that_o popish_a fast_n which_o stand_v in_o force_n among_o they_o at_o this_o day_n be_v wicked_a and_o damnable_a and_o consequent_o to_o be_v abolish_v if_o it_o be_v no_o more_o but_o for_o the_o blasphemous_a end_n
