main_a proposition_n of_o religion_n all_o proposition_n immediate_o concern_v our_o salvation_n all_o article_n of_o faith_n be_v thing_n which_o fall_v not_o under_o the_o demonstration_n of_o have_v no_o further_a doubt_n against_o which_o we_o can_v make_v no_o objection_n now_o nothing_o but_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n thus_o teach_v the_o gift_n of_o minister_n be_v various_a the_o discourse_n of_o some_o may_v be_v mere_a word_n oratorial_n discourse_n these_o of_o all_o other_o have_v lest_o influence_n upon_o any_o but_o airy_a soul_n other_o more_o mind_n their_o work_n and_o know_v that_o nothing_o but_o the_o word_n of_o god_n lay_v hold_v on_o the_o conscience_n endeavour_v to_o prove_v what_o they_o say_v by_o holy_a writ_n and_o some_o in_o this_o be_v more_o of_o the_o old_a testament_n concern_v the_o king_n of_o judah_n and_o such_o a_o reformation_n of_o a_o particular_a church_n or_o congregation_n belong_v to_o the_o officer_n of_o christ_n in_o it_o true_a church_n where_o indeed_o idolatry_n be_v own_v in_o the_o doctrine_n of_o a_o church_n and_o ordinary_o practise_v in_o the_o worship_n of_o a_o church_n or_o establish_v as_o the_o worship_n of_o it_o i_o can_v well_o tell_v what_o to_o say_v i_o do_v not_o find_v that_o idolatry_n be_v ever_o establish_v as_o the_o worship_n of_o the_o church_n of_o god_n in_o judah_n though_o i_o find_v for_o its_o protection_n psal_n 46._o 5._o god_n be_v in_o the_o midst_n of_o she_o therefore_o she_o shall_v not_o fall_v psal_n 125._o 2._o as_o the_o mountain_n be_v round_o about_o jerusalem_n so_o the_o lord_n be_v round_o about_o his_o people_n the_o gate_n of_o hell_n shall_v not_o prevail_v against_o it_o matth._n 16._o 18._o with_o many_o other_o of_o the_o like_a nature_n particular_a seasonable_o repair_v it_o and_o make_v it_o a_o dwelling-place_n fit_a for_o his_o holiness_n 5._o last_o be_v the_o church_n christ_n house_n and_o the_o saint_n house_n what_o cause_n have_v we_o in_o a_o few_o particular_n 1._o beam_n and_o rafter_n be_v integral_a part_n of_o a_o house_n indeed_o part_n of_o the_o substance_n of_o it_o without_o which_o there_o can_v be_v no_o house_n a_o house_n may_v want_v a_o due_a proportion_n of_o beam_n and_o rafter_n and_o yet_o be_v a_o house_n but_o some_o there_o must_v be_v some_o more_o principal_a beam_n and_o rafter_n or_o there_o can_v be_v no_o house_n without_o the_o word_n and_o ordinance_n of_o god_n there_o can_v be_v no_o church_n of_o god_n every_o company_n of_o man_n make_v not_o a_o church_n but_o a_o company_n own_v the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o walk_v in_o the_o fellowship_n of_o ordinance_n these_o make_v a_o house_n of_o god_n a_o church_n may_v for_o a_o time_n it_o may_v be_v for_o some_o long_a time_n want_v some_o particular_a ordinance_n and_o yet_o be_v a_o true_a church_n of_o god_n but_o its_o state_n must_v be_v lame_a and_o imperfect_a but_o if_o it_o want_v all_o the_o ordinance_n if_o it_o want_v the_o word_n and_o sacrament_n which_o be_v the_o church_n beam_n it_o can_v be_v a_o church_n of_o god_n it_o be_v lame_a if_o it_o want_v any_o ordinance_n of_o god_n but_o it_o lose_v the_o nature_n of_o a_o church_n if_o it_o want_v all_o ordinance_n that_o which_o make_v a_o church_n to_o be_v a_o church_n be_v union_n and_o fellowship_n now_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o the_o doctrine_n of_o faith_n contain_v in_o the_o word_n and_o the_o ordinance_n for_o worship_n and_o order_n be_v those_o thing_n in_o which_o the_o church_n have_v its_o fellowship_n by_o which_o the_o member_n of_o the_o church_n have_v fellowship_n both_o with_o god_n and_o also_o one_o with_o another_o 2._o the_o house_n be_v build_v upon_o beam_n and_o rafter_n and_o they_o bear_v up_o the_o weight_n of_o the_o other_o material_n the_o weight_n of_o every_o tile_n in_o the_o house_n lie_v upon_o the_o rafter_n and_o the_o whole_a building_n be_v lay_v upon_o the_o groundsel_n and_o this_o be_v that_o which_o the_o apostle_n eph._n 2._o 20._o call_v the_o foundation_n of_o the_o apostle_n and_o prophet_n the_o faith_n and_o obedience_n of_o every_o particular_a member_n of_o the_o church_n be_v build_v upon_o the_o word_n of_o promise_n and_o the_o word_n of_o precept_n our_o faith_n be_v build_v upon_o the_o promise_v of_o the_o word_n our_o obedience_n upon_o the_o precept_n they_o be_v the_o foundation_n and_o rule_n of_o all_o holiness_n the_o whole_a weight_n of_o every_o particular_a soul_n be_v lay_v upon_o the_o word_n and_o the_o weight_n of_o the_o of_o god_n yea_o so_o it_o be_v as_o to_o every_o particular_a soul_n the_o security_n of_o the_o particular_a soul_n and_o the_o whole_a fabric_n of_o the_o church_n depend_v upon_o the_o truth_n and_o sureness_n and_o permanency_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n if_o the_o word_n of_o god_n shall_v not_o hold_v sure_a if_o the_o truth_n of_o god_n can_v be_v find_v a_o lie_n all_o our_o faith_n and_o hope_n be_v in_o vain_a the_o very_a notion_n of_o a_o church_n be_v a_o chimaera_n and_o the_o great_a concernment_n of_o
the_o word_n of_o god_n arise_v from_o two_o thing_n 1._o the_o first_o be_v that_o sweet_a joy_n and_o peace_n which_o god_n ordinary_o bring_v into_o the_o soul_n from_o they_o god_n will_v speak_v peace_n to_o his_o people_n say_v the_o psalmist_n and_o he_o create_v the_o fruit_n of_o the_o lip_n peace_n peace_n say_v the_o prophet_n this_o joy_n be_v indeed_o of_o different_a degree_n there_o be_v the_o rejoice_n of_o hope_n for_o hope_n grow_v from_o a_o true_a root_n bring_v forth_o some_o fruit_n of_o joy_n in_o the_o soul_n though_o it_o indeed_o be_v not_o so_o fair_a and_o pleasant_a a_o fruit_n as_o that_o joy_n which_o be_v the_o fruit_n of_o assurance_n because_o the_o union_n which_o hope_n give_v the_o soul_n with_o its_o belove_a object_n be_v of_o the_o low_a fort_n but_o yet_o even_a this_o joy_n have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o sweetness_n but_o oh_o how_o great_a be_v that_o sweetness_n which_o be_v the_o ripe_a fruit_n of_o assurance_n that_o peace_n which_o pass_v all_o understanding_n a_o sweetness_n which_o oft_o time_n overcome_v the_o soul_n and_o be_v too_o great_a for_o it_o to_o bear_v both_o which_o the_o soul_n reap_v from_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o from_o the_o ordinance_n of_o god_n 2._o but_o second_o this_o sweetness_n in_o the_o word_n and_o ordinance_n of_o god_n arise_v not_o from_o this_o alone_a but_o from_o other_o usefulness_n of_o they_o to_o the_o soul_n that_o be_v not_o only_o sweet_a but_o that_o also_o which_o be_v profitable_a david_n say_v that_o the_o law_n of_o the_o lord_n do_v convert_v the_o soul_n make_v sweetness_n that_o the_o word_n and_o ordinance_n of_o god_n have_v to_o a_o gracious_a soul_n as_o they_o be_v pure_a and_o holy_a psal_n 119._o v._n 140._o thy_o word_n be_v very_o pure_a be_v of_o a_o immortal_a nature_n the_o reason_n be_v because_o god_n be_v a_o god_n that_o change_v not_o he_o be_v not_o yea_o and_o nay_o but_o yea_o and_o amen_o a_o god_n that_o can_v lie_v to_o his_o people_n nor_o repent_v of_o what_o he_o have_v say_v unto_o they_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o word_n abide_v for_o ever_o 2._o the_o virtue_n of_o the_o word_n abide_v and_o be_v immortal_a the_o doctrine_n of_o it_o tend_v to_o curse_v man_n and_o woman_n and_o to_o conclude_v all_o under_o wrath_n but_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n bring_v grace_n the_o news_n of_o the_o free_a pardon_n and_o remission_n of_o sin_n through_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n &_o the_o acceptance_n of_o the_o soul_n upon_o the_o account_n of_o his_o merit_n truth_n also_o come_v by_o christ_n whether_o you_o take_v truth_n for_o substance_n and_o reality_n oppose_v to_o type_n and_o shadow_n that_o come_v by_o christ_n who_o be_v the_o end_n of_o the_o law_n or_o whether_o you_o take_v
