necessity_n which_o the_o pamphlet_n itself_o require_v viz._n this_o only_a i_o dare_v to_o affirm_v that_o if_o it_o be_v necessary_a to_o reduce_v wander_v sheep_n into_o christ_n flock_n if_o to_o take_v off_o scruple_n from_o the_o mind_n of_o weak_a brethren_n if_o to_o allay_v hatred_n appease_v and_o as_o much_o as_o may_v be_v to_o suppress_v all_o dissension_n concern_v religion_n if_o important_a too_o here_o be_v a_o miosis_n more_o intend_v than_o he_o think_v convenient_a to_o speak_v p._n 9_o tell_v we_o from_o the_o doctor_n still_o that_o even_o incommodious_a law_n ought_v a_o necessity_n or_o not_o be_v as_o much_o undetermined_a as_o if_o he_o have_v never_o make_v any_o of_o these_o quotation_n whence_o i_o can_v see_v what_o service_n he_o have_v do_v himself_o unless_o to_o show_v the_o world_n that_o he_o be_v able_a to_o translate_v a_o piece_n of_o a_o latin_a sermon_n his_o next_o paragraph_n tell_v we_o of_o a_o apt_a allusion_n of_o this_o learned_a doctor_n but_o i_o be_o sure_a it_o be_v no_o way_n apt_a for_o his_o purpose_n for_o the_o doctor_n there_o show_v that_o both_o the_o universal_a and_o particular_a church_n have_v power_n by_o their_o synod_n to_o make_v law_n as_o they_o shall_v judge_v expedient_a for_o the_o better_a administration_n of_o the_o public_a worship_n of_o god_n but_o wherein_o this_o can_v serve_v he_o who_o the_o judgement_n as_o of_o other_o learned_a and_o unprejudiced_a man_n so_o of_o the_o bishop_n themselves_o who_o judge_v it_o so_o suitable_a that_o by_o their_o command_n we_o have_v a_o second_o impression_n have_v he_o follow_v our_o doctor_n advice_n p._n 30._o nulla_fw-la praejudicata_fw-la opinio_fw-la nulla_fw-la praesumpta_fw-la suspicio_fw-la nulla_fw-la litium_fw-la cupido_fw-la huc_fw-la afferatur_fw-la let_v no_o preposession_n no_o presume_a suspicion_n no_o desire_n of_o contention_n approach_v this_o synod_n neither_o this_o pamphlet_n nor_o its_o author_n will_v find_v not_o be_v the_o church_n ever_o better_o esteem_v by_o the_o main_a body_n of_o dissenter_n than_o when_o under_o those_o trial_n and_o indeed_o the_o advantage_n that_o popery_n reap_v from_o our_o division_n arise_v not_o so_o much_o from_o the_o design_n of_o divider_n as_o from_o the_o nature_n and_o necessary_a consequence_n of_o division_n itself_o how_o well_o those_o that_o do_v address_n perform_v their_o promise_n let_v the_o world_n judge_n suppose_v what_o he_o assert_n yet_o the_o very_a allegation_n speak_v the_o necessity_n of_o alteration_n that_o hereby_o we_o may_v lessen_v the_o number_n of_o those_o who_o else_o may_v endanger_v we_o again_o our_o circumstance_n be_v not_o yet_o so_o alter_v but_o that_o their_o unite_n against_o the_o church_n of_o england_n may_v expose_v we_o to_o those_o danger_n now_o as_o much_o as_o it_o do_v then_o and_o therefore_o there_o be_v at_o this_o time_n as_o well_o a_o necessity_n of_o perform_v the_o bishop_n promise_v as_o there_o be_v then_o of_o make_v it_o but_o we_o acquiesce_v in_o that_o and_o consequent_o we_o ought_v in_o this_o our_o saviour_n say_v that_o a_o kingdom_n divide_v can_v stand_v yet_o our_o pamphlet_n will_v continue_v our_o division_n in_o order_n forsooth_o to_o our_o preservation_n and_o certain_o if_o ever_o there_o be_v a_o time_n that_o speak_v this_o truth_n if_o ever_o a_o time_n that_o require_v our_o union_n in_o order_n to_o a_o common_a preservation_n if_o ever_o a_o time_n that_o call_v for_o mutual_a condescension_n which_o be_v the_o only_a way_n to_o this_o union_n it_o be_v this_o in_o truth_n be_v the_o author_n a_o profess_a enemy_n to_o our_o church_n and_o establish_v religion_n i_o shall_v believe_v there_o be_v more_o of_o judgement_n and_o sincerity_n in_o his_o answer_n to_o this_o objection_n than_o i_o can_v yet_o discern_v in_o it_o for_o his_o argument_n lie_v thus_o viz._n dissenter_n by_o their_o division_n have_v already_o endanger_v we_o shuffle_n that_o because_o some_o man_n be_v think_v to_o be_v stiff_a therefore_o the_o church_n owe_v no_o regard_n either_o to_o they_o or_o any_o of_o their_o party_n of_o who_o many_o may_v be_v gain_v if_o the_o fault_n be_v not_o our_o own_o but_o in_o truth_n all_o this_o be_v only_o a_o blind_a excuse_n for_o not_o do_v what_o he_o have_v no_o mind_n shall_v be_v do_v for_o the_o close_a of_o this_o paragraph_n say_v it_o be_v declare_v in_o the_o preface_n to_o the_o liturgy_n as_o also_o in_o the_o king_n ecclesiastical_a commission_n that_o alteration_n may_v be_v make_v argument_n because_o he_o suspect_v that_o the_o first_o prppose_v will_v not_o stand_v the_o shock_n and_o therefore_o bring_v on_o this_o as_o a_o reserve_n to_o support_v it_o 2._o this_o speak_v his_o insincerity_n for_o he_o know_v we_o plead_v for_o alteration_n from_o a_o prudential_a necessity_n arise_v not_o so_o much_o from_o the_o book_n itself_o as_o from_o the_o weakness_n of_o some_o who_o misunderstand_v and_o the_o perverseness_n of_o other_o who_o industrious_o abuse_v it_o what_o need_v then_o of_o justify_v the_o book_n in_o this_o argument_n unless_o to_o amuse_v the_o reader_n with_o a_o heap_n of_o plea_n to_o no_o purpose_n 3._o this_o discover_v his_o gross_a inadvertency_n in_o that_o he_o plead_v against_o alteration_n from_o dissenter_n not_o ask_v the_o preface_n to_o the_o common_a prayer_n against_o the_o design_n of_o that_o commission_n and_o that_o very_a liberty_n which_o the_o preface_n itself_o do_v give_v we_o so_o fain_o will_v he_o carry_v on_o a_o design_n which_o he_o be_v ashamed_a to_o own_o i._n e._n hinder_v alteration_n and_o yet_o lie_v the_o fault_n at_o the_o dissenter_n door_n whatever_o be_v at_o the_o bottom_n this_o be_v general_o the_o humour_n among_o man_n of_o this_o complexion_n they_o wish_v for_o peace_n but_o will_v part_v with_o nothing_o for_o it_o and_o the_o gentleman_n in_o this_o author_n neighbourhood_n who_o speak_v fair_a but_o do_v nothing_o be_v like_o the_o disobedient_a son_n who_o say_v i_o go_v but_o go_v not_o for_o which_o he_o have_v i_o will_v warrant_v you_o as_o good_a reason_n as_o these_o before_o you_o 2._o he_o plead_v p._n 3._o that_o they_o ought_v to_o declare_v what_o alteration_n will_v satisfy_v else_o they_o have_v no_o reason_n to_o make_v any_o answ_n 1_o this_o some_o of_o they_o have_v do_v already_o under_o car._n 2._o and_o still_o do_v by_o their_o frequent_a complaint_n and_o the_o reason_n they_o give_v of_o their_o separation_n and_o the_o late_a promise_n of_o accommodation_n must_v respect_v the_o alteration_n of_o those_o thing_n so_o far_o as_o may_v be_v that_o offend_v the_o more_o reasonable_a and_o judicious_a among_o '_o they_o sufficient_a to_o our_o end_n too_o these_o few_o he_o quote_v by_o such_o unreasonable_a flight_n must_v be_v presume_v to_o design_n the_o obstruct_v all_o future_a alteration_n as_o know_v that_o this_o be_v the_o ready_a way_n to_o break_v their_o party_n therefore_o our_o pamphlet_n not_o only_a trifle_n but_o also_o gratify_v those_o few_o hot_a and_o design_v man_n who_o intend_v not_o a_o accommodation_n but_o the_o maintain_n of_o a_o faction_n but_o p._n 4._o drive_v on_o the_o same_o argument_n quote_v a_o book_n of_o mr._n r._n b_n which_o say_v there_o be_v forty_o sinful_a particular_n in_o our_o communion_n beside_o thirty_o tremendous_a principle_n and_o circumstantial_o which_o affright_v dissenter_n from_o it_o and_o the_o heal_a attempt_n require_v not_o such_o abatement_n as_o authority_n now_o design_n but_o the_o admission_n of_o their_o new_a model_n for_o a_o comprehension_n which_o be_v such_o as_o will_v make_v every_o parish_n church_n independent_a objection_n and_o other_o too_o little_a even_o in_o their_o own_o judgement_n to_o justify_v a_o schism_n this_o suppose_n that_o alteration_n will_v gain_v dissenter_n only_o which_o we_o can_v never_o grant_v he_o because_o a_o great_a part_n of_o this_o nation_n stand_v more_o or_o less_o doubtful_a and_o indifferent_a between_o the_o church_n and_o the_o conventicle_n who_o see_v the_o peaceable_a inclination_n of_o the_o church_n manifest_v
by_o reasonable_a condescension_n will_v unite_v with_o she_o and_o become_v her_o support_n who_o else_o upon_o our_o stiffness_n may_v join_v with_o dissenter_n and_o together_o may_v find_v hand_n to_o pull_v she_o down_o therefore_o we_o have_v reason_n and_o motive_n enough_o in_o this_o undertake_n though_o we_o be_v infallible_o certain_a that_o not_o one_o dissenter_n will_v be_v gain_v by_o it_o this_o be_v so_o obvious_a that_o he_o immediate_o start_v a_o objection_n which_o he_o see_v will_v be_v certain_o make_v against_o he_o viz._n that_o alteration_n may_v please_v the_o king_n the_o parliament_n and_o a_o great_a part_n of_o the_o dissent_v laity_n by_o which_o we_o must_v understand_v all_o those_o that_o be_v not_o in_o communion_n with_o the_o church_n in_o the_o objection_n which_o he_o dare_v not_o undertake_v to_o answer_v but_o leave_v this_o a_o while_n we_o will_v pursue_v the_o present_a argument_n in_o this_o case_n we_o be_v to_o consider_v not_o what_o every_o dissenter_n will_v have_v which_o be_v the_o way_n to_o hinder_v all_o alteration_n or_o to_o leave_v ourselves_o nothing_o but_o what_o alteration_n will_v take_v away_o the_o great_a occasion_n of_o mistake_n and_o cavil_v as_o know_v that_o this_o will_v reduce_v some_o and_o leave_v other_o inexcusable_a this_o be_v the_o method_n of_o the_o church_n before_o for_o the_o preface_n to_o the_o common_a prayer_n say_v that_o though_o there_o be_v proposal_n make_v yet_o our_o aim_n be_v not_o to_o gratify_v this_o or_o that_o party_n in_o any_o their_o unreasonable_a demand_n but_o to_o do_v that_o which_o to_o our_o best_a understanding_n we_o conceive_v might_n most_o tend_v to_o the_o preservation_n of_o peace_n and_o unity_n in_o the_o church_n etc._n etc._n and_o certain_o the_o church_n may_v alter_v thing_n now_o without_o any_o fresh_a proposal_n make_v much_o better_a than_o she_o can_v then_o without_o have_v any_o regard_v to_o they_o that_o be_v make_v because_o 1._o those_o proposal_n then_o make_v together_o with_o complaint_n demand_n and_o other_o method_n since_o do_v give_v we_o a_o better_a understanding_n of_o dissenter_n than_o those_o proposal_n can_v give_v then_o therefore_o without_o any_o proposal_n now_o make_v we_o have_v less_o need_n of_o be_v inform_v what_o will_v satisfy_v dissenter_n than_o the_o church_n have_v then_o even_o after_o their_o proposal_n be_v receive_v 2._o alteration_n then_o without_o regard_n to_o their_o proposal_n may_v exasperate_v some_o who_o may_v think_v themselves_o neglect_v but_o alteration_n now_o without_o fresh_a proposal_n can_v exasperate_v any_o but_o may_v oblige_v the_o more_o as_o be_v evidence_n of_o a_o free_a inclination_n to_o peace_n and_o unity_n therefore_o if_o those_o method_n gain_v some_o these_o be_v likely_a to_o gain_v more_o but_o 3._o suppose_v they_o do_v not_o recover_v one_o dissenter_n yet_o as_o we_o say_v it_o be_v not_o to_o be_v imagine_v but_o that_o they_o will_v fix_v many_o of_o the_o unsettle_a multitude_n who_o add_v to_o the_o church_n will_v leave_v dissenter_n the_o object_n of_o our_o pity_n not_o of_o our_o fear_n this_o must_v be_v grant_v and_o consequent_o his_o principal_a argument_n against_o alteration_n viz._n the_o improbability_n of_o gain_v dissenter_n be_v utter_o overthrow_v but_o our_o author_n
