come_v to_o entertain_v the_o word_n to_o be_v their_o rule_n in_o every_o thing_n both_o in_o opinion_n and_o in_o conversation_n now_o they_o be_v force_v to_o differ_v from_o the_o world_n to_o clash_v with_o they_o in_o many_o thing_n to_o contradict_v and_o oppose_v they_o and_o gainsay_v they_o and_o this_o breed_v disaffection_n and_o dislike_n yea_o enmity_n and_o hatred_n against_o they_o nay_o they_o be_v force_v sometime_o if_o they_o will_v keep_v exact_o to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n to_o cross_v the_o world_n in_o those_o opinion_n which_o they_o be_v most_o intent_n upon_o and_o for_o which_o they_o be_v most_o eager_a and_o this_o they_o can_v by_o no_o mean_n bear_v from_o they_o as_o they_o that_o entertain_v christ_n to_o be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n and_o the_o saviour_n of_o the_o world_n when_o he_o be_v conversant_a upon_o the_o earth_n and_o in_o the_o time_n that_o follow_v next_o after_o his_o incarnation_n passion_n and_o ascension_n they_o do_v exceed_o enrage_v the_o world_n against_o they_o the_o generality_n of_o man_n will_v not_o endure_v to_o heat_n of_o christ_n or_o the_o religion_n that_o embrace_v and_o worship_v he_o and_o therefore_o whosoever_o undertake_v to_o own_v he_o and_o profess_v he_o be_v sure_a to_o meet_v with_o all_o the_o violence_n and_o rage_n and_o malice_n that_o the_o world_n can_v pour_v upon_o he_o excellency_n above_o the_o rest_n of_o holy_a scripture_n not_o that_o the_o law_n or_o any_o other_o part_n of_o the_o old_a testament_n be_v not_o so_o true_a as_o gospel_n be_v for_o there_o be_v be_v christ_n 1_o cor._n 3.21_o a_o man_n can_v have_v but_o earth_n and_o heaven_n and_o we_o be_v heir_n to_o both_o in_o christ_n the_o meek_a shall_v inherit_v the_o earth_n say_v the_o psalmist_n psal_n 37.11_o etc._n etc._n and_o as_o we_o be_v heir_n to_o earth_n so_o we_o be_v heir_n of_o heaven_n too_o and_o that_o by_o virtue_n of_o our_o sonship_n we_o be_v beget_v to_o it_o as_o the_o apostle_n speak_v 1_o pet._n 1.3_o he_o have_v beget_v we_o to_o a_o inheritance_n etc._n etc._n so_o that_o the_o child_n of_o god_n you_o see_v engross_v all_o earth_n be_v he_o and_o heaven_n be_v he_o and_o nothing_o else_o remain_v for_o other_o man_n but_o hell_n only_o oh_o the_o unutterable_a happiness_n of_o those_o who_o god_n the_o father_n love_v even_o as_o he_o love_v christ_n he_o give_v his_o own_o son_n nothing_o but_o they_o have_v a_o share_n with_o he_o and_o thus_o far_o of_o the_o first_o main_a thing_n which_o christ_n desire_v of_o god_n the_o father_n in_o the_o behalf_n of_o true_a believer_n that_o they_o may_v be_v all_o one_o which_o suit_n he_o prosecute_v with_o many_o argument_n as_o you_o have_v hear_v the_o second_o follow_v now_o in_o order_n to_o be_v handle_v and_o this_o be_v that_o they_o may_v be_v all_o in_o one_o place_n they_o may_v be_v one_o by_o such_o a_o union_n as_o our_o saviour_n mean_v a_o spiritual_a and_o a_o mystical_a union_n though_o they_o be_v in_o divers_a place_n but_o christ_n be_v not_o content_a with_o this_o you_o see_v he_o will_v not_o only_o have_v they_o to_o be_v all_o one_o but_o he_o will_v have_v they_o also_o to_o be_v all_o in_o one_o place_n the_o same_o place_n where_o he_o be_v father_n i_o will_v that_o they_o also_o who_o thou_o have_v give_v i_o be_v with_o i_o where_o i_o be_o etc._n etc._n and_o here_o you_o may_v take_v notice_n with_o i_o of_o these_o two_o particular_n first_o the_o manner_n how_o our_o saviour_n christ_n propound_v this_o suit_n of_o he_o and_o then_o the_o matter_n of_o it_o or_o the_o suit_n itself_o first_o the_o manner_n how_o our_o saviour_n here_o propound_v this_o suit_n of_o he_o and_o that_o be_v bold_o and_o confident_o as_o you_o see_v father_n i_o will_v he_o say_v not_o as_o in_o other_o place_n father_n i_o pray_v or_o i_o desire_v or_o i_o beseech_v thou_o and_o entreat_v thou_o that_o it_o may_v be_v thus_o but_o i_o will_v have_v it_o to_o be_v thus_o no_o more_o but_o so_o father_n i_o will_v that_o they_o who_o thou_o have_v give_v i_o second_o and_o then_o you_o have_v the_o matter_n of_o the_o suit_n which_o he_o propound_v the_o thing_n which_o he_o will_v have_v to_o be_v that_o they_o also_o who_o thou_o have_v give_v i_o be_v with_o i_o where_o i_o be_o begin_v we_o with_o the_o manner_n how_o our_o saviour_n here_o propound_v this_o suit_n of_o he_o confident_o as_o i_o say_v father_n i_o will_n i_o shall_v not_o hence_o conclude_v as_o austin_n do_v sometime_o against_o the_o arrian_n the_o son_n equality_n with_o god_n the_o father_n because_o he_o speak_v in_o such_o a_o peremptory_a manner_n to_o he_o if_o i_o may_v express_v it_o so_o father_n i_o will_v or_o elsesaith_o he_o he_o will_v have_v speak_v in_o a_o supplicate_a and_o entreat_v not_o in_o a_o willing_a and_o command_a way_n that_o christ_n as_o god_n be_v equal_a with_o the_o father_n be_v a_o certain_a truth_n and_o manifest_o to_o be_v prove_v from_o other_o scripture_n but_o certain_o it_o be_v not_o to_o be_v gather_v hence_o for_o in_o this_o chapter_n all_o along_o he_o speak_v as_o man_n and_z as_o man_n he_o be_v inferior_a to_o the_o father_n and_o therefore_o usual_o before_o he_o say_v i_o pray_v or_o i_o entreat_v he_o speak_v in_o a_o submissive_a way_n though_o here_o he_o use_v such_o a_o term_n as_o seem_v to_o to_o carry_v more_o authority_n father_n i_o will_n now_o since_o he_o speak_v as_o man_n and_o mediator_n as_o that_o be_v very_o evident_a we_o must_v understand_v he_o here_o in_o such_o a_o way_n as_o be_v agreeable_a to_o christ_n in_o that_o capacity_n and_o under_o that_o consideration_n and_o consequent_o that_o he_o do_v not_o here_o imperious_o require_v of_o god_n the_o father_n and_o yet_o upon_o the_o other_o side_n he_o do_v so_o express_v himself_o as_o be_v very_o confident_a that_o he_o shall_v have_v his_o own_o pleasure_n and_o that_o his_o will_n shall_v sure_o carry_v it_o with_o god_n the_o father_n without_o any_o contradiction_n if_o he_o will_v it_o it_o be_v do_v without_o any_o more_o ado_n father_n i_o will_v have_v it_o so_o and_o there_o be_v a_o end_n and_o so_o according_o the_o point_n shall_v be_v doctrine_n the_o will_n of_o christ_n as_o mediator_n be_v as_o it_o be_v a_o law_n with_o god_n the_o father_n or_o christ_n may_v have_v even_o what_o he_o will_v of_o god_n the_o father_n and_o therefore_o pray_v here_o that_o all_o believer_n may_v be_v together_o with_o he_o in_o the_o same_o place_n he_o say_v no_o more_o but_o this_o father_n i_o will_v that_o they_o also_o who_o thou_o have_v give_v i_o be_v with_o i_o where_o i_o be_o and_o this_o be_v that_o which_o martha_n be_v so_o steadfast_o persuade_v of_o that_o christ_n be_v sure_a to_o speed_v with_o god_n in_o any_o suit_n that_o he_o will_v make_v to_o he_o she_o have_v no_o doubt_n at_o all_o concern_v this_o as_o you_o may_v see_v john_n 11.22_o i_o know_v say_v she_o that_o whatsoever_o thou_o will_v ask_v of_o god_n god_n will_v give_v it_o thou_o let_v it_o be_v what_o it_o will_v god_n will_v not_o turn_v thou_o off_o with_o a_o denial_n and_o lest_o you_o shall_v conceive_v that_o this_o be_v but_o a_o groundless_a confidence_n in_o she_o you_o shall_v find_v it_o second_v by_o christ_n himself_o ver_fw-la 42._o of_o the_o very_a same_o chapter_n which_o put_v it_o out_o of_o all_o question_n if_o you_o survey_v the_o supplication_n that_o he_o make_v while_o he_o be_v here_o upon_o the_o earth_n you_o shall_v in_o he_o his_o faith_n be_v shake_v after_o this_o indeed_o but_o it_o be_v not_o overthrow_v it_o faint_v but_o it_o do_v not_o fail_v so_o that_o christ_n have_v his_o full_a desire_n in_o that_o particular_a i_o shall_v add_v no_o more_o for_o proof_n you_o see_v the_o will_n of_o christ_n as_o mediator_n be_v etc._n etc._n and_o there_o be_v many_o reason_n of_o it_o for_o he_o be_v the_o father_n own_o son_n and_o father_n use_v to_o be_v indulgent_a to_o their_o reason_n 1_o child_n to_o let_v they_o have_v their_o ear_n yea_o and_o their_o very_a heart_n too_o our_o saviour_n call_v he_o father_n all_o along_o this_o prayer_n indeed_o he_o give_v he_o once_o the_o attribute_n of_o holy_a once_o the_o attribute_n of_o righteous_a father_n but_o this_o be_v still_o the_o appellation_n that_o he_o use_v and_o from_o which_o he_o never_o vary_v if_o he_o call_v he_o any_o thing_n he_o call_v he_o father_n and_o therefore_o he_o presume_v much_o upon_o he_o because_o of_o this_o relation_n to_o he_o that_o he_o shall_v not_o be_v deny_v he_o be_v the_o bold_a while_o he_o consider_v he_o be_v speak_v to_o a_o father_n as_o that_o be_v his_o expression_n in_o my_o text_n itself_o father_n i_o will_v come_v i_o must_v have_v my_o will_n in_o this_o particular_a thou_o must_v not_o put_v i_o off_o with_o a_o denial_n for_o i_o be_o thou_o own_o son_n reason_n 2_o yet_o this_o be_v not_o sufficient_a
true_a believer_n now_o of_o all_o these_o he_o say_v express_o that_o they_o know_v not_o god_n you_o must_v not_o understand_v it_o absolute_o that_o they_o know_v he_o not_o at_o all_o in_o no_o respect_n and_o under_o no_o consideration_n the_o very_a heathen_a know_v he_o in_o a_o sense_n and_o in_o a_o measure_n there_o be_v 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d somewhat_o to_o be_v know_v of_o god_n by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o creation_n and_o by_o the_o thing_n that_o he_o have_v make_v rom._n 1.19_o even_o by_o the_o book_n of_o creature_n which_o the_o heathen_n have_v and_o study_v and_o therefore_o it_o be_v charge_v upon_o they_o afterward_o at_o ver_fw-la 21._o that_o when_o they_o know_v god_n they_o glorify_v he_o not_o as_o god_n they_o do_v not_o glorify_v he_o according_a to_o their_o knowledge_n of_o he_o and_o if_o the_o heathen_a who_o have_v but_o the_o book_n of_o creature_n know_v the_o lord_n a_o little_a profess_v christian_n who_o have_v the_o book_n of_o scripture_n know_v he_o more_o i_o say_v profess_a christian_n who_o have_v no_o interest_n at_o all_o in_o christ_n no_o truth_n of_o save_a grace_n in_o they_o even_o these_o may_v go_v far_o in_o a_o notional_a speculative_a discursive_a knowledge_n of_o the_o lord_n beyond_o many_o sound_a believer_n and_o yet_o these_o be_v of_o the_o world_n so_o that_o our_o saviour_n mean_v not_o absolute_o when_o he_o say_v to_o his_o father_n here_o the_o world_n have_v not_o know_v thou_o q._n d._n they_o have_v not_o know_v thou_o at_o all_o but_o they_o have_v not_o know_v thou_o so_o in_o such_o a_o manner_n and_o with_o such_o a_o kind_n of_o knowledge_n as_o i_o and_o true_a believer_n do_v oh_o righteous_a father_n the_o world_n have_v not_o know_v thou_o but_o i_o have_v know_v thou_o and_o these_o have_v know_v that_o thou_o have_v send_v i_o and_o i_o have_v declare_v unto_o they_o thy_o name_n all_o that_o be_v necessary_a to_o be_v know_v of_o thou_o you_o see_v the_o meaning_n of_o the_o word_n the_o world_n here_o be_v oppose_v to_o jesus_n christ_n and_o true_a believer_n so_o that_o it_o be_v not_o mundus_fw-la mundus_fw-la but_o mundus_fw-la immundus_fw-la as_o austin_n call_v it_o it_o be_v the_o unbelieving_a and_o unsanctified_a world_n say_v our_o saviour_n know_v not_o god_n he_o mean_v not_o that_o they_o know_v he_o not_o at_o all_o but_o they_o know_v he_o not_o aright_o how_o and_o in_o what_o respect_v they_o know_v he_o not_o a_o right_a i_o shall_v open_v by_o and_o by_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n the_o point_n be_v this_o doctrine_n that_o unbeliever_n and_o unsanctified_a person_n know_v not_o god_n at_o least_o they_o know_v he_o not_o in_o such_o a_o manner_n and_o with_o such_o a_o knowledge_n as_o they_o ought_v to_o do_v this_o be_v the_o usual_a character_n of_o such_o in_o scripture_n this_o be_v the_o character_n of_o unbelieve_a heathen_n they_o be_v the_o gentile_n that_o know_v not_o god_n 1_o thes_n 4.5_o this_o be_v the_o character_n of_o unbelieve_a christian_n they_o know_v not_o god_n and_o obey_v not_o the_o gospel_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n 1_o thes_n 1.8_o so_o that_o all_o unbelieving_a and_o unsanctified_a person_n whether_o they_o be_v heathen_n or_o profess_a christian_n be_v ignorant_a of_o god_n yea_o though_o they_o discourse_v of_o he_o and_o that_o excellent_o too_o and_o pretend_v acquaintance_n with_o he_o as_o those_o who_o the_o apostle_n mention_n tit._n 1.16_o they_o profess_v they_o know_v god_n but_o in_o work_n they_o deny_v he_o yea_o though_o they_o cry_v to_o god_n as_o israel_n do_v my_o god_n we_o know_v thou_o while_o they_o cast_v off_o the_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a hosea_n 8.2_o 3._o yet_o they_o know_v not_o god_n indeed_o their_o knowledge_n of_o he_o be_v not_o right_a and_o sound_a and_o consequent_o be_v not_o worthy_a of_o the_o name_n of_o knowledge_n as_o i_o shall_v evident_o clear_v it_o to_o you_o in_o a_o few_o particular_n unbeliever_n etc._n etc._n know_v not_o god_n in_o such_o a_o manner_n and_o with_o such_o a_o kind_n of_o knowledge_n as_o they_o ought_v to_o do_v in_o that_o they_o know_v he_o not_o with_o a_o affective_a knowledge_n so_o as_o to_o love_v he_o and_o delight_n in_o he_o knowledge_n in_o scripture_n do_v connote_v affection_n and_o that_o which_o carry_v not_o the_o heart_n and_o the_o affection_n with_o it_o deserve_v not_o the_o name_n of_o knowledge_n and_o therefore_o man_n be_v frequent_o affirm_v in_o scripture_n not_o to_o know_v that_o which_o they_o do_v not_o like_a and_o love_v the_o ox_n know_v his_o owner_n etc._n etc._n but_o israel_n know_v not_o i_o say_v god_n isa_n 1.3_o why_o certain_o they_o know_v he_o if_o any_o people_n under_o heaven_n know_v he_o with_o a_o discursive_a and_o a_o speculative_a knowledge_n i_o but_o they_o know_v he_o not_o with_o a_o affective_a knowledge_n their_o knowledge_n of_o he_o draw_v not_o out_o their_o heart_n to_o he_o and_o therefore_o in_o the_o lord_n interpretation_n and_o construction_n it_o be_v no_o knowledge_n for_o he_o say_v of_o they_o express_o israel_n have_v not_o know_v i_o in_o that_o they_o know_v he_o not_o with_o a_o effective_a knowledge_n so_o as_o to_o serve_v he_o and_o obey_v he_o with_o such_o a_o knowledge_n as_o bring_v forth_o practice_n and_o obedience_n that_o which_o be_v separate_v from_o this_o be_v no_o knowledge_n in_o which_o respect_n it_o be_v that_o the_o apostle_n style_v it_o 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d rom._n 2.20_o a_o form_n of_o knowledge_n there_o be_v the_o show_n but_o not_o the_o truth_n when_o christ_n be_v say_v in_o scripture_n to_o have_v know_v no_o sin_n we_o can_v understand_v it_o to_o be_v mean_v of_o intellectual_a knowledge_n for_o than_o he_o can_v not_o have_v discourse_v of_o it_o so_o that_o he_o know_v no_o sin_n in_o paul_n be_v he_o do_v no_o sin_n in_o peter_n they_o that_o know_v god_n rom._n 1.18_o because_o they_o do_v not_o live_v according_o and_o glorify_v he_o not_o as_o god_n be_v therefore_o say_v not_o to_o have_v keep_v he_o and_o retain_v he_o in_o their_o knowledge_n and_o therefore_o sinner_n be_v universal_o term_v 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d ignorant_a err_a person_n heb._n 5.2_o and_o that_o alone_o be_v by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n think_v worthy_a of_o the_o name_n of_o knowledge_n that_o sink_v from_o the_o brain_n into_o the_o heart_n and_o so_o appear_v in_o the_o life_n set_v all_o on_o work_n for_o god_n in_o which_o respect_n it_o be_v the_o mind_n to_o know_v it_o but_o in_o their_o heart_n to_o practise_v it_o and_o to_o obey_v it_o this_o only_o this_o be_v right_a knowledge_n a_o good_a understanding_n have_v all_o they_o that_o do_v his_o commandment_n psal_n 119.10_o they_o only_o understand_v and_o know_v the_o lord_n effectual_o and_o save_o that_o obey_v the_o will_n of_o god_n hereby_o we_o know_v we_o know_v he_o as_o we_o ought_v to_o do_v if_o we_o keep_v his_o commandment_n other_o may_v have_v understanding_n only_o these_o have_v good_a understanding_n for_o this_o god_n set_v the_o finger_n of_o a_o hand_n
