christ_n think_v you_o as_o primary_o design_v all_o those_o part_n of_o his_o church_n that_o in_o their_o past_a generation_n do_v once_o exist_v here_o on_o earth_n and_o do_v not_o he_o alike_o consider_v as_o any_o way_n relate_v to_o a_o church_n but_o only_o as_o realt_v to_o god_n and_o who_o be_v not_o able_a to_o understand_v a_o christian_n as_o well_o as_o adam_n to_o be_v a_o son_n of_o god_n without_o any_o relation_n to_o any_o society_n of_o man_n whatever_o but_o since_o it_o be_v certain_a that_o god_n have_v exert_v this_o regenerate_a power_n to_o more_o than_o one_o and_o that_o he_o have_v many_o son_n and_o daughter_n hence_o it_o be_v that_o every_o son_n of_o god_n stand_v in_o a_o other_o relation_n and_o that_o be_v to_o all_o the_o rest_n that_o be_v in_o the_o same_o manner_n bear_v of_o god_n which_o in_o conjunction_n make_v up_o god_n family_n or_o church_n but_o they_o i_o say_v that_o the_o church_n here_o be_v to_o be_v take_v for_o the_o certain_a that_o christ_n never_o make_v over_o such_o privilege_n to_o the_o church_n as_o visible_a but_o i_o perceive_v he_o understand_v it_o ministerial_o that_o be_v to_o say_v that_o a_o man_n be_v pardon_v or_o partake_v of_o the_o grace_n of_o the_o spirit_n but_o by_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o church_n well_o let_v this_o be_v grant_v what_o will_v thence_o follow_v i_o be_o sure_a that_o will_v not_o follow_v which_o you_o say_v do_v follow_v that_o therefore_o we_o must_v first_o be_v make_v member_n of_o the_o church_n before_o we_o can_v be_v pardon_v or_o sanctify_v by_o but_o two_o case_n wherein_o it_o can_v be_v lawful_a to_o withdraw_v communion_n from_o a_o church_n one_o be_v when_o the_o church_n require_v of_o we_o as_o a_o condition_n of_o her_o communion_n a_o acknowledgement_n and_o profession_n of_o that_o to_o be_v truth_n which_o we_o know_v to_o be_v a_o error_n the_o other_o be_v when_o she_o require_v of_o we_o the_o join_n with_o she_o in_o some_o practice_n which_o we_o know_v to_o be_v against_o the_o law_n of_o god_n though_o i_o will_v not_o be_v so_o confident_a to_o say_v with_o this_o author_n that_o only_o in_o these_o two_o case_n it_o may_v be_v lawful_a to_o withdraw_v communion_n for_o there_o may_v be_v a_o three_o and_o a_o four_o which_o neither_o he_o nor_o i_o may_v at_o present_a think_v of_o yet_o so_o far_o i_o agree_v with_o he_o that_o these_o two_o case_n mention_v be_v just_a cause_n of_o withdraw_a communion_n but_o whereas_o he_o say_v that_o the_o error_n must_v be_v know_v to_o be_v such_o and_o the_o practice_n know_v to_o be_v against_o the_o law_n of_o god_n to_o that_o i_o say_v that_o knowledge_n imply_v certainty_n but_o i_o say_v if_o the_o error_n and_o practice_n be_v but_o suspect_v so_o as_o the_o conscience_n do_v but_o doubt_n it_o be_v sufficient_a as_o i_o have_v prove_v from_o the_o apostle_n and_o the_o testimony_n and_o reason_n of_o mr._n hales_n and_o dr._n stillingsleet_n this_o be_v premise_v i_o shall_v now_o proceed_v to_o a_o consideration_n of_o those_o ground_n which_o he_o suppose_v nonconformist_n plead_v as_o sufficient_a cause_n of_o their_o separation_n as_o they_o be_v enumerate_v and_o affirm_v by_o he_o to_o be_v insufficient_a first_o he_o say_v vnscriptural_a imposition_n can_v be_v no_o sufficient_a cause_n to_o warrant_v a_o separation_n from_o a_o church_n answer_v by_o unscriptural_a imposition_n he_o suppose_v as_o he_o tell_v we_o be_v mean_v no_o more_o than_o what_o be_v neither_o command_v nor_o forbid_v in_o neither_o command_v nor_o forbid_v by_o any_o general_a or_o particular_a rule_n in_o scripture_n be_v eitherin_o themselves_o lawful_a or_o unlawful_a if_o unlawful_a than_o they_o be_v against_o some_o particular_a or_o general_n scriptural_a rule_n &_o so_o can_v fall_v under_o the_o notion_n of_o unscriptural_a imposition_n which_o be_v suppose_v to_o be_v against_o neither_o of_o these_o rule_n if_o lawful_a than_o it_o can_v be_v imagine_v how_o their_o be_v command_v can_v make_v they_o unlawful_a so_o that_o in_o this_o case_n there_o be_v no_o sin_n in_o yield_a obedience_n and_o consequent_o no_o just_a cause_n of_o withdraw_a our_o communion_n this_o be_v the_o strength_n of_o what_o he_o have_v say_v to_o this_o first_o case_n my_o answer_n be_v this_o i_o wonder_v which_o of_o his_o dissenter_n give_v he_o ground_n to_o suppose_v that_o ever_o any_o of_o they_o take_v unscriptural_a imposition_n for_o such_o thing_n that_o be_v neither_o command_v nor_o forbid_v by_o be_v not_o either_o command_v or_o direct_o forbid_v in_o scripture_n in_o any_o express_a term_n for_o we_o confess_v that_o there_o be_v not_o the_o word_n surplice_n or_o sign_n of_o the_o cross_n etc._n etc._n so_o much_o as_o name_v in_o scripture_n and_o upon_o this_o account_n we_o allow_v they_o the_o name_n of_o unscriptural_a but_o we_o say_v moreover_o that_o the_o religious_a use_n of_o these_o thing_n in_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n and_o much_o more_o the_o imposition_n of_o they_o as_o necessary_a condition_n of_o communion_n be_v against_o general_a rule_n and_o instance_n in_o the_o like_o kind_a dis-allowed_n in_o scripture_n from_o whence_o we_o by_o deduction_n gather_v the_o unlawfulnesse_n and_o sinfulness_n thereof_o and_o upon_o this_o latter_a consideration_n i_o call_v they_o antiscriptural_a as_o be_v
of_o england_n not_o scruple_n to_o profess_v that_o he_o will_v for_o peace_n sake_n use_v all_o the_o popish_a ceremony_n of_o cream_n and_o spital_n in_o baptism_n as_o well_o as_o the_o sign_n right_n as_o they_o may_v be_v suffer_v not_o only_o in_o adore_v by_o bow_v of_o the_o knee_n in_o the_o act_n of_o receive_v of_o the_o supper_n but_o in_o erect_v the_o communion_n table_n in_o the_o form_n of_o a_o altar_n and_o not_o only_o in_o bow_v towards_o it_o but_o be_v ready_a to_o kiss_v the_o very_a step_n that_o lead_v up_o to_o it_o but_o if_o this_o be_v your_o mind_n i_o can_v prove_v the_o contrary_n but_o i_o know_v he_o will_v say_v all_o this_o be_v nothing_o to_o our_o present_a case_n for_o there_o be_v no_o such_o error_n or_o idolatrous_a practice_n in_o the_o church_n of_o england_n and_o therefore_o can_v be_v plead_v as_o a_o cause_n of_o our_o separation_n i_o answer_v it_o be_v very_o difficult_a to_o know_v what_o the_o church_n of_o england_n be_v and_o how_o they_o shall_v we_o be_v able_a to_o understand_v what_o be_v the_o truth_n or_o error_n she_o maintain_v or_o what_o be_v her_o practice_n if_o you_o shall_v take_v it_o to_o consist_v of_o all_o the_o christian_n in_o england_n whether_o minister_n or_o people_n so_o the_o church_n of_o england_n will_v comprehend_v all_o nonconformist_n church_n as_o well_o as_o other_o if_o you_o take_v it_o for_o such_o christian_n only_o who_o be_v of_o the_o faith_n in_o doctrinal_n with_o those_o that_o hold_v with_o the_o 39_o article_n here_o the_o nonconformist_n come_v in_o for_o a_o only_o of_o such_o as_o exclusive_a of_o all_o other_o however_o sound_v in_o faith_n and_o unblameable_a in_o life_n or_o shall_v we_o take_v your_o church_n only_o to_o consist_v of_o its_o officer_n how_o shall_v we_o then_o judge_v of_o your_o faith_n and_o doctrinal_n when_o so_o many_o of_o your_o minister_n be_v so_o contrary_a one_o to_o another_o some_o be_v for_o the_o doctrine_n of_o predestination_n and_o other_o against_o it_o some_o be_v for_o justification_n by_o impute_v righteousness_n other_o not_o some_o for_o a_o difference_n betwixt_o grace_n and_o morality_n other_o oppose_v it_o some_o for_o the_o divine_a right_n of_o episcopacy_n other_o that_o the_o magistrate_n may_v appoint_v what_o form_n of_o government_n he_o please_v in_o a_o word_n some_o write_v or_o approve_v of_o such_o a_o book_n that_o other_o of_o you_o think_v as_o i_o have_v hear_v fit_a to_o be_v burn_v which_o of_o these_o shall_v we_o understand_v to_o be_v your_o church_n the_o mean_a time_n what_o a_o sad_a condition_n must_v the_o poor_a people_n be_v in_o when_o such_o corrupt_a teacher_n shall_v be_v impose_v on_o they_o if_o they_o be_v bind_v for_o fear_n of_o schism_n to_o sit_v under_o their_o corrupt_a doctrine_n to_o the_o endanger_n of_o their_o faith_n and_o consequent_o of_o their_o salvation_n yea_o though_o they_o be_v error_n contrary_a to_o the_o doctrine_n of_o your_o own_o church_n if_o you_o say_v the_o people_n have_v liberty_n in_o this_o case_n of_o complain_v i_o answer_v but_o to_o what_o purpose_n when_o such_o error_n be_v public_o profess_v in_o print_a book_n and_o no_o course_n take_v for_o the_o correct_v or_o eject_v of_o the_o author_n which_o shall_v hold_v their_o place_n with_o encouragement_n if_o you_o say_v they_o may_v then_o withdraw_v and_o join_v with_o other_o pastor_n provide_v they_o be_v of_o the_o same_o church_n of_o england_n i_o answer_v then_o what_o be_v become_v of_o your_o proposition_n that_o another_o of_o the_o same_o national_a church_n do_v not_o run_v we_o upon_o the_o same_o danger_n as_o if_o we_o separate_v from_o the_o whole_a for_o the_o latter_a leave_v we_o destitute_a of_o all_o public_a advantage_n to_o ourselves_o which_o the_o other_o do_v not_o beside_o the_o public_a honour_v of_o god_n in_o his_o worship_n which_o be_v every_o christian_n duty_n will_v be_v then_o in_o the_o partake_a with_o church_n though_o nonconformist_n where_o both_o these_o may_v be_v obtain_v the_o separation_n will_v be_v lawful_a and_o consequent_o it_o will_v be_v lawful_a
