fourscore_o year_n which_o usual_o be_v the_o long_a term_n of_o man_n life_n and_o i_o can_v tell_v no_o far_o but_o yet_o for_o all_o that_o i_o can_v apply_v my_o heart_n unto_o wisdom_n this_o i_o must_v have_v from_o thou_o therefore_o o_o lord_n teach_v i_o though_o we_o need_v but_o little_a arithmetic_n to_o number_v our_o day_n natural_o yet_o we_o need_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o grace_n again_o actual_o to_o err_v twice_o be_v more_o sinful_a but_o not_o to_o have_v a_o possibility_n of_o err_v twice_o be_v most_o dangerous_a we_o transgress_v the_o law_n of_o live_v a_o thousand_o time_n over_o but_o the_o law_n of_o die_a no_o man_n ever_o transgress_v a_o second_o time_n and_o that_o we_o so_o often_o transgress_v the_o law_n of_o live_v be_v a_o aggravation_n of_o sin_n upon_o all_o man_n and_o that_o we_o can_v transgress_v the_o law_n of_o die_v but_o once_o be_v the_o seal_n of_o misery_n upon_o most_o men._n how_o shall_v we_o then_o cry_v unto_o god_n for_o wisdom_n to_o make_v we_o careful_a always_o to_o live_v so_o that_o we_o may_v be_v prepare_v for_o a_o die_a hour_n if_o now_o the_o wisdom_n of_o a_o christian_a consist_v in_o make_v preparation_n for_o death_n than_o those_o person_n be_v guilty_a of_o great_a folly_n and_o run_v desperate_a hazard_n who_o upon_o hope_n of_o long_a life_n neglect_v such_o preparation_n yet_o if_o a_o minister_n in_o a_o great_a congregation_n shall_v go_v from_o man_n to_o man_n and_o ask_v they_o whether_o they_o be_v prepare_v to_o die_v will_v not_o must_v not_o most_v if_o they_o will_v speak_v the_o truth_n be_v force_v to_o say_v they_o be_v not_o if_o upon_o this_o you_o deal_v faithful_o with_o they_o and_o show_v yourselves_o a_o true_a friend_n to_o their_o soul_n lay_v before_o they_o their_o great_a folly_n and_o danger_n herein_o by_o such_o strong_a and_o powerful_a conviction_n that_o their_o conscience_n be_v force_v to_o yield_v to_o you_o and_o themselves_o bring_v with_o tear_n to_o confess_v their_o foolishness_n hereupon_o what_o resolution_n do_v they_o take_v up_o and_o what_o promise_n do_v they_o make_v bind_v their_o soul_n to_o god_n by_o many_o vow_n witness_v with_o many_o prayer_n and_o tear_n that_o they_o will_v make_v it_o the_o business_n of_o their_o life_n for_o the_o time_n to_o come_v to_o prepare_v for_o death_n but_o alas_o how_o soon_o do_v these_o seem_o strong_a resolution_n die_v and_o come_v to_o nothing_o and_o death_n that_o under_o those_o conviction_n they_o fear_v be_v ready_a to_o seize_v upon_o they_o every_o moment_n be_v now_o as_o far_o from_o their_o person_n they_o hope_v as_o he_o be_v from_o their_o thought_n he_o threaten_v they_o not_o as_o former_o and_o therefore_o they_o fear_v he_o not_o as_o former_o distemper_n of_o body_n which_o sometime_o fright_v they_o into_o a_o awe_n and_o fear_n of_o death_n be_v now_o depart_v from_o they_o and_o so_o be_v death_n with_o they_o at_o least_o as_o to_o their_o apprehension_n they_o have_v now_o a_o healthful_a strong_a constitution_n of_o body_n and_o what_o do_v this_o prognosticate_v but_o long_a life_n and_o many_o day_n yet_o to_o come_v they_o hope_v do_v not_o the_o word_n of_o god_n say_v that_o the_o age_n of_o man_n be_v threescore_o year_n and_o ten_o and_o many_o time_n by_o reason_n of_o strength_n which_o they_o feel_v no_o want_n of_o it_o be_v fourscore_o and_o for_o their_o part_n they_o have_v not_o live_v above_o thirty_o or_o forty_o year_n as_o yet_o and_o therefore_o sure_o they_o have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o but_o shall_v be_v full_o know_v in_o hell_n be_v it_o possible_a for_o thou_o o_o sinner_n to_o understand_v what_o be_v include_v in_o the_o loss_n of_o thy_o soul_n it_o will_v be_v as_o a_o dagger_n at_o thy_o heart_n the_o thought_n of_o it_o will_v make_v thou_o mingle_v thy_o drink_n with_o weep_v and_o embitter_v all_o the_o comfort_n of_o thy_o whole_a life_n unto_o thou_o in_o but_o one_o soul_n and_o if_o thou_o lose_v that_o thou_o have_v no_o more_o if_o thou_o lose_v thy_o estate_n by_o thy_o diligence_n and_o the_o blessing_n of_o god_n upon_o thy_o endeavour_n thou_o may_v recover_v it_o again_o yea_o if_o thou_o lose_v thy_o life_n thou_o may_v be_v a_o gainer_n by_o it_o for_o thou_o may_v find_v it_o again_o for_o he_o that_o lose_v his_o life_n for_o my_o sake_n say_v christ_n shall_v find_v it_o how_o so_o shall_v he_o live_v again_o here_o on_o earth_n no_o but_o he_o shall_v find_v it_o with_o infinite_a gain_n and_o advantage_n in_o heaven_n for_o instead_o of_o a_o temporal_a life_n he_o shall_v gain_v a_o eternal_a life_n but_o if_o thy_o soul_n o_o sinner_n be_v once_o lose_v thou_o be_v undo_v for_o ever_o this_o be_v such_o a_o loss_n that_o the_o thought_n thereof_o may_v make_v thy_o hair_n stand_v on_o end_n upon_o thy_o head_n yea_o it_o be_v that_o which_o when_o ever_o thou_o read_v or_o think_v of_o may_v make_v thy_o conversion_n change_v the_o state_n and_o condition_n of_o the_o soul_n this_o now_o be_v the_o main_a work_n of_o a_o christian_a without_o which_o he_o be_v no_o real_a christian_n profession_n of_o christianity_n give_v a_o man_n the_o name_n of_o a_o christian_a but_o it_o be_v only_a implantation_n into_o christ_n by_o believe_v that_o give_v a_o man_n the_o be_v of_o a_o christian_n it_o be_v essential_a to_o a_o christian_a as_o a_o christian_a that_o he_o be_v in_o christ_n by_o nature_n all_o man_n be_v stranger_n yea_o enemy_n to_o god_n and_o christ_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v necessary_a that_o there_o be_v a_o manifestation_n of_o the_o power_n of_o convert_v grace_n to_o change_v our_o heart_n and_o sanctify_v our_o nature_n and_o till_o this_o be_v do_v we_o be_v but_o nominal_o christian_n we_o have_v only_o a_o name_n to_o live_v but_o we_o be_v dead_a he_o that_o be_v not_o in_o christ_n be_v not_o a_o christian_a in_o deed_n and_o in_o truth_n now_o this_o be_v in_o christ_n which_o be_v always_o accompany_v with_o conversion_n and_o sanctification_n be_v that_o which_o make_v life_n comfortable_a death_n easy_a and_o heaven_n sure_a and_o certain_a he_o that_o have_v a_o interest_n in_o christ_n may_v live_v joyful_o in_o any_o condition_n if_o he_o know_v but_o his_o own_o happiness_n he_o need_v not_o be_v trouble_v let_v what_o will_v befall_v he_o whether_o he_o have_v more_o or_o less_o he_o have_v it_o with_o the_o love_n of_o god_n all_o his_o mercy_n come_v swim_v to_o he_o in_o the_o blood_n of_o jesus_n and_o therefore_o he_o may_v well_o sit_v down_o and_o be_v content_a yea_o be_v thankful_a and_o rejoice_v know_v that_o all_o thing_n shall_v work_v together_o for_o his_o eternal_a benefit_n and_o advantage_n there_o be_v no_o condemnation_n to_o they_o that_o be_v in_o christ_n jesus_n and_o as_o for_o death_n how_o easy_a a_o thing_n be_v it_o to_o such_o a_o soul_n i_o confess_v death_n be_v very_o terrible_a to_o one_o that_o be_v out_o of_o christ_n but_o to_o one_o that_o be_v in_o christ_n death_n be_v his_o friend_n yea_o his_o best_a friend_n next_o to_o christ_n what_o say_v the_o apostle_n of_o such_o 1_o cor._n 3.21_o all_o thing_n be_v you_o that_o be_v for_o your_o benefit_n and_o advantage_n whether_o paul_n or_o apollo_n or_o cephas_n or_o thing_n present_a or_o thing_n to_o come_v or_o life_n or_o death_n all_o be_v you_o but_o how_o come_v all_o this_o about_o why_o because_o you_o be_v christ_n and_o christ_n be_v god_n death_n therefore_o can_v hurt_v
yet_o it_o may_v rule_v as_o a_o tyrant_n and_o we_o be_v bring_v into_o captivity_n by_o it_o and_o by_o force_n keep_v in_o bondage_n under_o it_o sometime_o how_o willing_a therefore_o shall_v a_o christian_a be_v to_o die_v that_o he_o may_v be_v free_a from_o sin_n for_o he_o that_o be_v dead_a say_v the_o apostle_n rom._n 6.7_o be_v free_v from_o sin_n death_n only_o will_v free_v we_o from_o the_o danger_n and_o possibility_n of_o offend_a god_n any_o more_o for_o than_o we_o shall_v come_v to_o the_o spirit_n of_o just_a man_n make_v perfect_a heb._n 12._o &_o 23._o why_o then_o o_o christian_n shall_v thou_o desire_v to_o linger_v long_o here_o upon_o earth_n and_o to_o spin_v out_o a_o miserable_a life_n in_o this_o world_n whereof_o sin_n and_o sorrow_n will_v have_v the_o grace_n for_o it_o be_v seldom_o or_o never_o find_v in_o a_o wicked_a man_n to_o be_v sure_a not_o from_o a_o right_a principle_n but_o true_o christian_n this_o be_v no_o such_o great_a matter_n in_o comparison_n of_o what_o we_o shall_v labour_v to_o attain_v unto_o muse_n serious_o upon_o it_o a_o while_n o_o christian_a be_v it_o not_o a_o strange_a kind_n of_o expression_n to_o drop_v only_o say_v he_o be_v content_v to_o die_v that_o he_o may_v be_v happy_a in_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o god_n we_o use_v not_o to_o speak_v thus_o concern_v the_o world_n here_o man_n be_v not_o say_v to_o be_v content_a to_o be_v rich_a but_o covetous_a after_o riches_n not_o willing_a to_o be_v advance_v but_o ambitious_a after_o it_o and_o why_o then_o shall_v it_o be_v say_v only_o of_o a_o christian_a that_o he_o be_v content_v to_o be_v with_o god_n and_o content_v to_o be_v in_o heaven_n why_o oh_o why_o shall_v not_o the_o soul_n the_o more_o noble_a excellent_a part_n of_o a_o man_n be_v carry_v out_o with_o vehement_a and_o earnest_a long_n after_o its_o proper_a and_o full_a happiness_n as_o well_o as_o the_o body_n that_o vile_a part_n of_o man_n be_v carry_v with_o restless_a appetite_n after_o health_n safety_n and_o liberty_n why_o shall_v a_o soul_n alone_o be_v content_v to_o be_v happy_a when_o all_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n do_v so_o ardent_o court_v and_o so_o vehement_o pursue_v their_o respective_a end_n and_o several_a perfection_n true_o this_o be_v not_o that_o frame_n and_o temper_v that_o christian_n ought_v to_o content_v themselves_o with_o but_o their_o soul_n shall_v be_v raise_v up_o to_o a_o high_a pitch_n even_o to_o a_o holy_a longing_n after_o their_o be_v ever_o with_o the_o lord_n it_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o a_o christian_n to_o look_v out_o after_o so_o much_o enjoyment_n of_o the_o bless_a god_n as_o we_o be_v now_o capable_a of_o and_o because_o we_o can_v full_o and_o perfect_o enjoy_v he_o in_o this_o life_n to_o long_o after_o the_o time_n of_o our_o departure_n hence_o and_o with_o holy_a pant_n of_o soul_n breath_n forth_o earnest_a desire_n that_o we_o may_v be_v full_o and_o eternal_o happy_a in_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o he_o be_v not_o therefore_o o_o my_o soul_n content_v only_o but_o be_v holy_o covetous_a and_o full_a of_o vehement_a long_n after_o a_o eternity_n of_o blessedness_n in_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o god_n and_o because_o this_o body_n be_v that_o which_o hinder_v this_o desire_a and_o long_v for_o happiness_n though_o thou_o may_v not_o dissolve_v and_o break_v it_o into_o piece_n thyself_o yet_o with_o submission_n to_o the_o divine_a will_n wish_v it_o be_v break_v desire_v that_o it_o may_v be_v dissolve_v and_o though_o thou_o must_v be_v content_v to_o live_v god_n yet_o will_v it_o be_v your_o wisdom_n to_o buckle_v on_o all_o your_o armour_n to_o get_v all_o your_o evidence_n and_o experience_n ready_a for_o the_o conflict_n of_o that_o day_n and_o hour_n into_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n to_o conceive_v that_o god_n have_v prepare_v for_o they_o that_o love_v he_o and_o which_o be_v to_o be_v enjoy_v beyond_o time_n in_o eternity_n thou_o have_v no_o lot_n or_o portion_n in_o those_o matter_n what_o wonder_v therefore_o if_o thou_o mourn_v and_o sigh_v even_o to_o the_o break_n of_o thy_o loin_n when_o death_n come_v to_o put_v a_o end_n to_o we_o may_v come_v to_o the_o full_a enjoyment_n of_o our_o long_v for_o happiness_n have_v god_n cast_v thou_o o_o christian_n upon_o a_o bed_n of_o pain_n and_o sorrow_n and_o be_v it_o likely_a to_o prove_v thy_o deathbed_n be_v there_o such_o symptom_n of_o thy_o departure_n that_o god_n seem_v to_o tell_v thou_o plain_o thou_o shall_v die_v and_o not_o live_v o_o do_v not_o reply_v and_o say_v answer_v it_o be_v true_a a_o christian_n can_v expect_v to_o die_v without_o assault_n of_o enemy_n nor_o without_o the_o pain_n of_o death_n but_o yet_o a_o christian_a need_v not_o fear_n nor_o be_v unwilling_a to_o die_v for_o all_o this_o first_o one_o discouragement_n may_v be_v the_o apprehension_n of_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n which_o they_o then_o fear_n will_v stare_v their_o
