far_o as_o for_o the_o sake_n thereof_o to_o reward_v the_o men._n so_o that_o if_o epicurus_n be_v virtuous_a beyond_o these_o degree_n that_o we_o must_v impute_v to_o the_o man_n rather_o than_o to_o the_o philosopher_n rather_o to_o his_o virtuous_a temper_n than_o to_o his_o principle_n so_o that_o whatever_o he_o be_v as_o to_o his_o own_o person_n yet_o i_o believe_v his_o follower_n make_v but_o right_a consequence_n from_o his_o false_a principle_n when_o they_o inser_v let_v we_o eat_v and_o drink_v for_o to_o morrow_n we_o die_v nor_o can_v the_o particular_a excellency_n of_o of_o the_o epicurean_o and_o yet_o in_o respect_n of_o any_o one_o particular_a endowment_n be_v able_a to_o vindicate_v a_o error_n in_o his_o founder_n we_o may_v say_v here_o as_o it_o be_v proverbial_o say_v of_o a_o desperate_a and_o ruine_a state_n ne_o marcus_n quidem_fw-la and_o whereas_o it_o be_v say_v that_o epicurus_n take_v great_a satisfaction_n at_o his_o death_n by_o mere_o by_o the_o motion_n of_o senseless_a atom_n decline_v uncertain_o from_o the_o perpendicular_a now_o this_o seem_v no_o such_o pious_a invention_n as_o to_o take_v such_o solid_a comfort_n in_o at_o his_o death_n i_o shall_v here_o only_o add_v these_o two_o general_a observation_n first_o that_o virtue_n according_a to_o his_o principle_n must_v be_v found_v on_o very_o weak_a and_o uncertain_a ground_n and_o reason_n especial_o as_o to_o the_o more_o difficult_a duty_n of_o a_o holy_a life_n they_o be_v at_o present_a both_o unpleasant_a and_o afterward_o unrewardable_a so_o that_o if_o the_o epicurean_o do_v give_v themselves_o to_o the_o practice_n of_o such_o virtue_n out_o of_o a_o absolute_a sense_n of_o duty_n or_o from_o the_o consideration_n of_o the_o excellency_n of_o the_o thing_n itself_o then_o be_v they_o the_o most_o heroic_o virtuous_a not_o only_o of_o any_o sort_n of_o philosopher_n but_o also_o of_o any_o other_o people_n in_o the_o world_n for_o than_o be_v they_o virtuous_a without_o either_o hope_n of_o reward_n or_o fear_v of_o punishment_n beside_o i_o know_v not_o what_o motion_n such_o man_n can_v have_v according_a to_o those_o principle_n to_o return_v to_o the_o practice_n of_o a_o holy_a life_n who_o by_o a_o constant_a and_o habitual_a course_n in_o á_o well_o regulate_v extravagance_n have_v make_v such_o a_o out_o all_o fear_n of_o death_n and_o all_o doubtful_a suspicion_n that_o may_v succeed_v it_o now_o the_o hope_n and_o fear_n of_o future_a good_a and_o evil_n be_v anticipation_n so_o implant_v in_o we_o that_o the_o root_a they_o out_o be_v a_o thing_n absolute_o impossible_a now_o he_o tell_v we_o that_o we_o can_v attain_v sincere_a pleasure_n without_o physiology_n that_o be_v i_o suppose_v such_o a_o hypothesis_n of_o natural_a philosophy_n as_o his_o own_o which_o exclude_v all_o divine_a providence_n out_o of_o the_o world_n and_o take_v away_o the_o immortality_n of_o the_o soul_n diog._n laert._n now_o what_o the_o stoic_n be_v among_o the_o heathen_n that_o in_o some_o resemblance_n be_v the_o enthusiast_n among_o christian_n and_o then_o as_o for_o the_o epicurean_o we_o have_v a_o sort_n of_o man_n among_o we_o who_o can_v be_v say_v so_o proper_o to_o resemble_v they_o as_o real_o to_o be_v the_o same_o now_o whereas_o the_o great_a design_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v to_o root_v out_o sin_n and_o plant_v the_o most_o exemplary_a virtue_n and_o piety_n in_o the_o world_n the_o enthusiast_n instead_o of_o this_o make_v the_o design_n thereof_o to_o consist_v in_o something_o pretend_o above_o it_o as_o first_o in_o a_o pompous_a set_v of_o high_a fly_v notion_n and_o speculative_a truth_n as_o if_o the_o sun_n of_o righteousness_n come_v only_o to_o enlighten_v the_o understanding_n but_o not_o either_o to_o regulate_v the_o will_n or_o warm_v the_o affection_n as_o if_o it_o be_v enough_o to_o be_v seraphical_a in_o our_o understanding_n though_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n our_o will_n be_v vicious_a and_o irregular_a though_o this_o be_v not_o so_o to_o be_v understand_v as_o if_o it_o be_v indifferent_a for_o we_o what_o we_o believe_v provide_v that_o we_o be_v careful_a and_o conscientious_a in_o the_o way_n we_o be_v in_o for_o it_o be_v impossible_a for_o we_o to_o lead_v a_o true_o good_a and_o holy_a life_n without_o a_o firm_a belief_n of_o the_o christian_a article_n but_o then_o we_o must_v not_o rest_v in_o a_o bare_a belief_n of_o truth_n for_o truth_n without_o practice_n become_v not_o only_o useless_a but_o of_o bad_a consequence_n to_o we_o second_o the_o enthusiast_n place_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o confidence_n in_o vain_a pretence_n to_o divine_a revelation_n as_o if_o their_o soul_n be_v the_o only_a seat_n of_o the_o deity_n and_o as_o if_o they_o be_v the_o only_a minister_n of_o state_n here_o below_o and_o heaven_n great_a privy_a councillor_n as_o if_o god_n write_a word_n be_v only_o a_o dead_a letter_n unless_o enliven_v by_o their_o interpretation_n all_o which_o though_o different_a comment_n must_v be_v of_o great_a authority_n than_o the_o text_n itself_o not_o only_a when_o they_o contradict_v that_o but_o also_o one_o another_o three_o the_o enthusiast_n entertain_v such_o a_o imaginary_a opinion_n of_o perfection_n as_o state_n they_o not_o only_o above_o all_o humane_a but_o divine_a law_n as_o if_o their_o will_n and_o action_n be_v the_o only_a rule_n of_o right_n and_o wrong_n and_o that_o what_o ever_o they_o do_v be_v therefore_o good_a because_o do_v by_o they_o thus_o be_v they_o grow_v such_o giant_n in_o religion_n as_o that_o they_o have_v baffle_v all_o check_n of_o conscience_n and_o obedience_n to_o law_n which_o they_o look_v upon_o as_o mean_v and_o low_a dispensation_n quite_o to_o be_v lay_v aside_o when_o once_o man_n arrive_v at_o this_o state_n of_o perfection_n four_o enthusiasm_n consist_v in_o a_o ill-guided_n zeal_n prodigious_o partial_a and_o indulgent_a to_o those_o of_o its_o own_o persuasion_n but_o furious_a and_o cruel_a to_o those_o who_o differ_v from_o '_o they_o now_o as_o the_o stoic_n pretend_v by_o their_o false_a opinion_n of_o humane_a nature_n to_o be_v more_o than_o man_n so_o the_o enthusiast_n by_o the_o like_a mistake_n concern_v true_a religion_n pretend_v to_o be_v more_o than_o christian_n though_o indeed_o they_o both_o come_v short_a of_o what_o they_o several_o pretend_v to_o have_v thus_o brief_o state_v the_o question_n betwixt_o the_o stoic_n and_o epicurean_o i_o shall_v here_o further_o inquire_v how_o far_o god_n make_v use_v of_o the_o low_a faculty_n of_o the_o soul_n in_o the_o communication_n of_o himself_o to_o mankind_n i_o shall_v not_o here_o go_v about_o to_o explain_v the_o manner_n how_o god_n now_o under_o the_o gospel_n work_v upon_o the_o mind_n of_o man_n by_o the_o gracious_a influence_n of_o his_o holy_a spirit_n for_o these_o may_v be_v more_o happy_o experience_v than_o successful_o explain_v however_o i_o conceive_v it_o will_v be_v a_o very_a preposterous_a method_n to_o do_v it_o by_o beginning_n at_o the_o low_a faculty_n of_o the_o soul_n for_o these_o be_v not_o immediate_o and_o in_o the_o first_o place_n wrought_v upon_o but_o by_o the_o mediation_n of_o a_o enlighten_v understanding_n and_o a_o rectify_v will_n and_o from_o those_o fountain_n be_v grace_n and_o goodness_n derive_v into_o the_o soul_n thus_o our_o remedy_n be_v apply_v in_o a_o way_n answerable_a to_o our_o disease_n the_o corruption_n and_o depravation_n of_o our_o nature_n now_o this_o consist_v more_o especial_o in_o these_o two_o thing_n in_o ignorance_n of_o the_o understanding_n and_o impotence_n and_o irregularity_n of_o the_o will_n answerable_o hereunto_o in_o the_o restitution_n of_o man_n god_n first_o

the_o whole_a causality_n must_v be_v ascribe_v to_o they_o can_v the_o fancy_n alone_o or_o the_o fancy_n and_o understanding_n together_o right_o judge_v of_o the_o sense_n and_o meaning_n of_o those_o representation_n without_o the_o further_a assistance_n of_o divine_a illumination_n to_o assert_v either_o of_o these_o will_v argue_v he_o either_o a_o bad_a philosopher_n or_o a_o worse_a divine_a so_o that_o it_o will_v be_v hard_a to_o conceive_v how_o these_o imaginary_a representation_n without_o a_o more_o immediate_a interpretation_n of_o their_o sense_n and_o meaning_n will_v be_v any_o thing_n better_o than_o idle_a show_n and_o insignificant_a appearance_n chap._n iii_o of_o natural_a notion_n of_o truth_n and_o goodness_n there_o be_v nothing_o that_o afford_v we_o more_o noble_a or_o more_o useful_a matter_n whereon_o to_o exercise_v our_o speculation_n than_o a_o serious_a enquiry_n into_o the_o respective_a nature_n of_o truth_n &_o goodness_n which_o be_v thing_n of_o so_o great_a excellency_n in_o themselves_o and_o of_o such_o near_a relation_n to_o we_o that_o it_o do_v not_o become_v a_o man_n a_o philosopher_n or_o a_o christian_a to_o be_v ignorant_a of_o either_o it_o be_v observe_v by_o some_o that_o pilate_n immediate_o upon_o his_o propound_v that_o question_n to_o our_o saviour_n what_o be_v truth_n he_o go_v forth_o not_o stay_v sor_n a_o answer_n yet_o providence_n have_v not_o leave_v we_o in_o the_o dark_a in_o thing_n of_o this_o nature_n we_o have_v the_o certain_a guide_n of_o reason_n and_o revelation_n as_o much_o as_o god_n think_v fit_a to_o impart_v to_o we_o sufficient_a to_o satisfy_v all_o sober_a though_o not_o overcurious_a inquiry_n sufficient_a to_o all_o the_o end_n and_o purpose_n of_o this_o humane_a state_n truth_n indeed_o both_o natural_a and_o reveal_v have_v ever_o since_o its_o first_o appearance_n in_o the_o world_n various_o suffer_v by_o the_o ignorance_n of_o some_o and_o the_o malice_n of_o other_o by_o the_o contrary_a and_o eager_a pretence_n of_o opposite_a party_n by_o the_o weakness_n and_o folly_n of_o man_n and_o by_o the_o power_n and_o subtlety_n of_o the_o devil_n and_o especial_o by_o that_o universal_a deluge_n of_o sin_n and_o wickedness_n which_o both_o upon_o a_o natural_a and_o moral_a account_n be_v very_o prejudicial_a to_o the_o concern_v of_o truth_n both_o as_o vice_n be_v natural_o destructive_a of_o good_a principle_n and_o also_o as_o wicked_a man_n be_v ready_a to_o believe_v though_o never_o so_o false_a what_o they_o think_v will_v be_v their_o interest_n to_o be_v true_a thus_o if_o we_o consider_v the_o state_n of_o the_o gentile_a world_n in_o the_o first_o age_n we_o shall_v there_o find_v a_o very_a bad_a face_n of_o thing_n for_o not_o to_o speak_v of_o the_o grossness_n of_o popular_a error_n and_o the_o no_o less_o impious_a than_o false_a apprehension_n of_o the_o generality_n of_o the_o common_a sort_n the_o most_o exact_a inquiry_n of_o their_o philosopher_n be_v often_o false_a but_o always_o mix_v with_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o uncertainty_n in_o their_o discourse_n have_v common_o a_o contrary_a sect_n and_o company_n of_o man_n that_o whatever_o be_v assert_v by_o one_o be_v many_o time_n with_o as_o much_o vigour_n and_o equal_a probability_n of_o reason_n contradict_v by_o another_o so_o that_o a_o sober_a and_o serious_a enquirer_n after_o truth_n though_o he_o may_v have_v reason_n enough_o not_o to_o profess_v himself_o a_o sceptic_a but_o to_o believe_v that_o there_o be_v such_o a_o thing_n as_o truth_n yet_o he_o may_v then_o see_v too_o much_o cause_n to_o despair_v of_o ever_o find_v the_o certain_a way_n that_o lead_v to_o it_o among_o so_o many_o by-path_n of_o error_n and_o uncertainty_n and_o even_o now_o in_o the_o christian_a world_n the_o many_o error_n in_o opinion_n and_o the_o more_o fatal_a heresy_n of_o wicked_a practice_n do_v sufficiently-testify_a that_o truth_n do_v not_o enjoy_v such_o a_o undisturbed_a empire_n as_o may_v have_v be_v hope_v and_o wish_v since_o christ_n appearance_n in_o the_o flesh._n now_o among_o all_o these_o disadvantage_n under_o which_o truth_n always_o labour_v and_o even_o still_a labour_n providence_n have_v more_o especial_o provide_v these_o two_o way_n for_o the_o preservation_n of_o it_o 1._o by_o natural_a inscription_n upon_o the_o mind_n of_o man_n 2._o by_o after_o revelation_n for_o the_o further_a illustration_n and_o confirmation_n of_o it_o and_o these_o two_o be_v as_o it_o be_v the_o two_o pillar_n that_o have_v preserve_v it_o both_o from_o the_o deluge_n of_o sin_n and_o the_o violence_n of_o all_o other_o opposition_n 1._o natural_a inscription_n i_o hope_v i_o shall_v not_o need_v to_o desire_v the_o reader_n not_o to_o impose_v any_o such_o gross_a sense_n upon_o this_o word_n as_o be_v inconsistent_a with_o the_o nature_n of_o a_o immaterial_a soul_n i_o shall_v here_o therefore_o first_o brief_o explain_v what_o i_o mean_v by_o truth_n of_o first_o inscription_n or_o natural_a notion_n for_o the_o defendant_n have_v always_o leave_v to_o state_n his_o own_o question_n and_o to_o declare_v in_o what_o sense_n he_o undertake_v the_o defence_n of_o it_o this_o i_o the_o rather_o intimate_v because_o some_o man_n will_v put_v such_o a_o sense_n upon_o these_o word_n innate_a imprint_v or_o impress_v frequent_o make_v use_n of_o in_o this_o question_n as_o none_o that_o i_o know_v of_o go_v about_o to_o defend_v first_o i_o do_v not_o here_o assert_v the_o opinion_n of_o the_o platonist_n concern_v innate_a idea_n in_o all_o its_o circumstance_n i_o do_v not_o here_o suppose_v the_o soul_n to_o praexi_v nor_o do_v i_o make_v all_o the_o knowledge_n we_o have_v in_o this_o state_n to_o be_v nothing_o but_o reminiscence_n or_o recollection_n of_o what_o we_o know_v in_o the_o other_o second_o these_o natural_a notion_n be_v not_o so_o imprint_v upon_o the_o soul_n as_o that_o they_o natural_o and_o necessary_o exert_v themselves_o even_o in_o child_n and_o idiot_n without_o any_o assistance_n from_o the_o outward_a sense_n or_o without_o the_o help_n of_o some_o previous_a cultivation_n for_o thus_o reason_n itself_o which_o yet_o we_o say_v be_v natural_a to_o a_o man_n be_v not_o so_o bear_v with_o he_o but_o that_o it_o require_v some_o supervenient_a assistance_n before_o it_o arrive_v at_o the_o true_a exercise_n of_o itself_o and_o it_o be_v as_o much_o as_o i_o here_o contend_v for_o if_o these_o notion_n be_v in_o the_o same_o sense_n connatural_a to_o the_o soul_n as_o reason_n itself_o be_v but_o three_o the_o use_n of_o our_o understanding_n be_v first_o suppose_v that_o be_v our_o faculty_n labour_v of_o no_o natural_a defect_n nor_o deprive_v of_o those_o other_o advantage_n that_o god_n and_o nature_n have_v make_v necessary_a thereunto_o than_o our_o soul_n have_v a_o native_a power_n of_o find_v or_o frame_v such_o principle_n or_o proposition_n the_o truth_n or_o knowledge_n whereof_o no_o way_n depend_v upon_o the_o evidence_n of_o sense_n or_o observation_n thus_o know_v what_o be_v mean_v by_o a_o whole_a and_o what_o by_o a_o part_n hence_o natural_o result_v the_o truth_n of_o this_o proposition_n totum_fw-la est_fw-la majus_fw-la svi_fw-la parte_fw-la without_o be_v any_o way_n oblige_v to_o sense_n for_o it_o of_o this_o nature_n be_v those_o universal_a proposition_n the_o truth_n whereof_o do_v not_o depend_v upon_o the_o actual_a existence_n of_o any_o thing_n as_o quicquid_fw-la agit_fw-fr est_fw-fr etc._n etc._n now_o i_o suppose_v we_o may_v easy_o discern_v a_o difference_n betwixt_o the_o truth_n of_o such_o proposition_n as_o these_o and_o those_o other_o which_o be_v bring_v by_o some_o to_o vie_v with_o those_o natural_a notion_n viz._n white_n be_v not_o black_a fellowness_n be_v not_o sweetness_n etc._n etc._n i_o shall_v here_o 1._o inquire_v into_o the_o ground_n and_o reason_n upon_o which_o dr._n parker_n late_a bishop_n of_o oxford_n in_o his_o account_n of_o the_o platonic_a philosophy_n assert_n experimental_a observation_n to_o be_v the_o great_a rule_n and_o measure_n of_o truth_n and_o first_o he_o blame_v the_o platonic_a theology_n for_o resolve_v knowledge_n into_o its_o first_o
have_v just_o blame_v in_o other_o or_o that_o he_o sometime_o draw_v universal_a conclusion_n only_o from_o particular_a observation_n and_o sometime_o from_o the_o mere_a fact_n he_o inser_n the_o jus_o of_o a_o thing_n and_o from_o the_o more_o general_a practice_n of_o most_o man_n he_o go_v about_o to_o justify_v that_o which_o be_v not_o in_o itself_o lawful_a it_o be_v the_o observation_n of_o a_o learned_a man_n that_o a_o flight_n and_o superficial_a study_n of_o nature_n and_o natural_a cause_n may_v incline_v a_o man_n to_o atheism_n but_o a_o full_a and_o perfect_a understanding_n of_o god_n be_v the_o rule_n of_o our_o action_n but_o the_o reason_n he_o there_o give_v be_v a_o very_a strange_a one_o and_o very_o odd_o express_v viz._n because_o god_n act_v nothing_o but_o by_o instinct_n of_o his_o nature_n nor_o be_v there_o any_o thing_n holy_a in_o god_n but_o what_o his_o nature_n desire_v but_o to_o this_o i_o answer_v first_o that_o god_n sometime_o act_n as_o a_o absolute_a sovereign_n of_o the_o universe_n and_o governor_n of_o the_o world_n and_o in_o these_o case_n his_o action_n be_v not_o in_o all_o particular_n to_o be_v the_o rule_n of_o we_o second_o it_o seem_v a_o irreverend_a way_n of_o speak_v to_o say_v that_o god_n act_v out_o of_o instinct_n of_o nature_n which_o be_v common_o and_o proper_o attribute_v to_o mere_a animal_n yet_o grant_v the_o expression_n in_o sano_fw-la sensu_fw-la it_o can_v be_v suppose_v that_o god_n do_v daily_o alter_v the_o determination_n of_o his_o will_n concern_v the_o same_o object_n three_o yet_o this_o we_o may_v safe_o say_v that_o the_o holiness_n of_o god_n be_v the_o rule_n of_o our_o action_n so_o far_o as_o either_o by_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n or_o divine_a revelation_n it_o be_v make_v both_o of_o flesh_n and_o spirit_n in_o rational_a creature_n this_o certain_o be_v also_o contrary_a to_o the_o divine_a nature_n he_o than_o proceed_v as_o he_o say_v to_o examine_v the_o perfection_n of_o the_o divine_a nature_n viz._n its_o liberty_n and_o this_o seem_v one_o of_o the_o best_a argument_n to_o prove_v that_o the_o world_n neither_o be_v nor_o can_v be_v from_o hereof_o seem_v a_o sufficient_a answer_n it_o be_v too_o sancisul_n to_o require_v a_o serious_a consutation_n and_o yet_o he_o make_v this_o one_o great_a instance_n of_o the_o church_n be_v not_o yet_o full_o emerge_v out_o of_o the_o territory_n of_o darkness_n or_o not_o yet_o insert_v into_o the_o glorious_a light_n and_o liberty_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n because_o it_o believe_v spirit_n to_o be_v immaterial_a being_n subsist_v by_o themselves_o and_o not_o mere_a phantasm_n as_o if_o the_o church_n can_v never_o arrive_v at_o a_o perfect_a purity_n of_o doctrine_n till_o it_o become_v a_o company_n of_o man_n open_o prosess_v that_o which_o either_o immediate_o border_n upon_o or_o natural_o tend_v to_o atheism_n but_o then_o in_o the_o begin_n of_o his_o next_o chapter_n he_o tell_v we_o the_o manner_n how_o phantasm_n be_v produce_v which_o in_o short_a be_v this_o by_o the_o impression_n which_o visible_a object_n make_v upon_o the_o sense_n which_o motion_n be_v continue_v to_o the_o place_n of_o perception_n do_v there_o beget_v in_o the_o mind_n or_o soul_n the_o conception_n or_o phantasm_n of_o the_o object_n thus_o communicate_v to_o the_o mind_n so_o that_o a_o phantasm_n according_a to_o this_o way_n of_o explain_v it_o be_v not_o and_o can_v be_v any_o where_o existent_a but_o in_o the_o mind_n of_o the_o perceiver_n but_o then_o how_o will_v this_o agree_v with_o what_o he_o have_v say_v before_o concern_v belzebub_n be_v the_o prince_n of_o phantasm_n that_o inhabit_v the_o air_n but_o perhaps_o it_o will_v sometime_o be_v as_o hard_o a_o matter_n to_o reconcile_v mr._n hobbs_n to_o himself_o as_o it_o will_v be_v to_o reconcile_v his_o opinion_n to_o truth_n how_o be_v satan_n prince_n of_o those_o phantasm_n which_o every_o man_n frame_v to_o himself_o may_v not_o every_o one_o rather_o create_v his_o own_o subject_n and_o become_v himself_o prince_n of_o his_o own_o phantasm_n but_o when_o he_o call_v satan_n or_o belzebub_n prince_n of_o these_o phantasm_n he_o seem_v to_o grant_v a_o great_a reality_n of_o existence_n to_o he_o than_o to_o they_o now_o i_o do_v not_o see_v according_a to_o his_o principle_n but_o that_o belzebub_n himself_o be_v as_o great_a a_o phantasm_n as_o any_o of_o the_o other_o now_o the_o first_o way_n he_o assign_v by_o which_o this_o kingdom_n of_o darkness_n be_v promote_v among_o man_n be_v by_o extinguish_v the_o light_n of_o scripture_n by_o false_a interpretation_n and_o i_o can_v wish_v mr._n hobbs_n be_v not_o thus_o guilty_a himself_o of_o promote_a this_o spiritual_a darkness_n the_o first_o instance_n he_o give_v of_o this_o false_a interpretation_n of_o scripture_n be_v of_o those_o who_o make_v the_o church_n now_o in_o the_o world_n the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n so_o often_o mention_v in_o scripture_n whereas_o say_v he_o it_o be_v manifest_a to_o the_o contrary_a that_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n be_v institute_v by_o god_n by_o the_o ministry_n of_o moses_n over_o the_o jew_n only_o who_o for_o that_o reason_n be_v call_v the_o peculiar_a people_n of_o god_n which_o kingdom_n cease_v at_o the_o election_n of_o saul_n and_o that_o there_o never_o be_v any_o kingdom_n of_o god_n proper_o so_o call_v since_o that_o on_o earth_n two_o thing_n there_o be_v general_o require_v to_o the_o sound_n of_o a_o hypothesis_n 1._o to_o show_v the_o reasonableness_n of_o it_o in_o itself_o 2._o the_o agreeableness_n of_o it_o to_o all_o other_o observation_n relate_v to_o such_o a_o matter_n according_o mr._n hobbs_n in_o his_o former_a part_n of_o his_o leviathan_n have_v be_v lay_v down_o the_o reason_n and_o foundation_n of_o his_o political_a hypothesis_n and_o now_o because_o he_o do_v not_o altogether_o deny_v the_o truth_n of_o scripture_n but_o that_o some_o respect_n be_v owe_v to_o it_o therefore_o he_o think_v himself_o concern_v to_o suit_v it_o as_o near_o as_o possible_a to_o the_o scripture_n also_o hence_o he_o endeavour_v if_o he_o can_v bring_v his_o principle_n to_o it_o he_o will_v by_o force_a interpretation_n bring_v the_o scripture_n to_o they_o this_o premised_a in_o general_a it_o be_v easy_o discernible_a why_o mr._n hobbs_n will_v not_o grant_v now_o god_n any_o kingdom_n upon_o earth_n true_o so_o call_v because_o if_o he_o have_v it_o will_v contradict_v
