do_v preserve_v from_o putrefaction_n that_o which_o otherwise_o will_v be_v unsavoury_a and_o ready_a to_o rot_v except_o it_o be_v salt_v so_o minister_n shall_v not_o only_o be_v fill_v with_o grace_n and_o wisdom_n for_o their_o own_o preservation_n but_o also_o labour_n by_o the_o word_n preach_v by_o admonition_n by_o discipline_n by_o a_o holy_a manner_n of_o converse_v among_o the_o people_n and_o by_o all_o other_o mean_v to_o season_v earthly_a man_n and_o make_v they_o become_v savoury_a to_o god_n and_o one_o to_o another_o therefore_o it_o be_v say_v you_o be_v the_o salt_n of_o the_o earth_n 3._o if_o a_o minister_n either_o labour_v not_o to_o have_v grace_n and_o enduement_n for_o his_o employment_n or_o have_v they_o study_v not_o to_o be_v faithful_a in_o his_o ministry_n that_o he_o may_v season_v his_o hearer_n by_o the_o power_n of_o the_o gospel_n or_o if_o have_v for_o a_o time_n give_v a_o show_n of_o something_o do_v he_o cease_v and_o fall_v from_o the_o faithful_a employment_n of_o his_o gift_n then_o be_v he_o of_o all_o man_n the_o most_o useless_a and_o unprofitable_a both_o to_o other_o and_o to_o himself_o of_o all_o man_n the_o most_o loathsome_a and_o intolerable_a burden_n of_o the_o people_n of_o god_n most_o worthy_a to_o be_v despise_v of_o god_n and_o man_n and_o least_o of_o all_o man_n to_o be_v suffer_v to_o bear_v office_n and_o charge_n in_o the_o church_n of_o god_n for_o so_o much_o import_v our_o lord_n speech_n compare_v he_o to_o unsavoury_a salt_n which_o have_v lose_v his_o savour_n and_o can_v recover_v it_o again_o and_o which_o be_v good_a for_o nothing_o but_o to_o be_v cast_v out_o and_o tread_v under_o foâ—_n of_o man_n ver._n 14._o you_o be_v the_o light_n of_o the_o world_n a_o city_n that_o be_v set_v on_o a_o hill_n can_v be_v hide_v he_o show_v the_o minister_n duty_n in_o another_o similitude_n of_o light_n doct._n 1._o it_o be_v true_a the_o original_a light_n and_o fountain_n of_o all_o light_n who_o illuminate_v every_o one_o that_o come_v into_o the_o world_n be_v christ_n our_o lord_n himself_o yet_o the_o minister_n be_v call_v the_o light_n of_o the_o world_n also_o as_o instrument_n to_o hold_v out_o the_o light_n because_o their_o office_n be_v to_o preach_v jesus_n christ_n who_o be_v the_o true_a light_n through_o who_o alone_a delivery_n from_o the_o dark_a condition_n of_o sin_n and_o misery_n that_o be_v true_a righteousness_n and_o salvation_n be_v to_o be_v
must_v glorify_v god_n in_o their_o martyrdom_n yet_o there_o shall_v be_v other_o minister_n one_o after_o another_o till_o the_o second_o come_v of_o christ_n preach_v the_o gospel_n from_o place_n to_o place_n in_o despite_n of_o all_o the_o persecuter_n in_o the_o world_n for_o of_o this_o our_o lord_n give_v assurance_n say_v very_o i_o say_v unto_o you_o you_o shall_v not_o have_v go_v over_o the_o city_n of_o israel_n till_o the_o son_n of_o man_n be_v come_v ver._n 24._o the_o disciple_n be_v not_o above_o his_o master_n nor_o the_o servant_n above_o his_o lord_n 25._o it_o be_v for_o here_o he_o set_v forth_o his_o own_o suffering_n to_o encourage_v we_o to_o suffer_v by_o like_a example_n 3._o to_o seek_v or_o look_v after_o freedom_n from_o persecution_n be_v to_o seek_v that_o we_o who_o be_v christ_n disciple_n shall_v be_v better_o deal_v with_o then_o our_o master_n be_v which_o be_v unreasonable_a for_o the_o disciple_n be_v not_o above_o his_o master_n nor_o the_o servant_n above_o his_o lord_n 4._o conformity_n with_o christ_n in_o suffer_v may_v sufficient_o comfort_v any_o man_n who_o suffer_v for_o christ_n for_o it_o be_v enough_o for_o the_o disciple_n that_o he_o be_v as_o his_o master_n 5._o the_o comparison_n of_o christ_n excellency_n and_o our_o base_a condition_n shall_v make_v we_o willing_a to_o undergo_v any_o sort_n of_o humiliation_n therefore_o say_v he_o it_o be_v enough_o that_o the_o servant_n be_v as_o his_o lord_n 6._o beelzebub_n be_v the_o idol_n of_o ekron_n and_o one_o of_o the_o chief_a devil_n name_n there_o be_v no_o blasphemy_n so_o great_a against_o christ_n but_o satan_n will_v find_v mouth_n to_o vent_v it_o for_o it_o be_v write_v they_o call_v the_o master_n of_o the_o house_n beelzebub_n 7._o no_o wonder_n that_o christ_n servant_n be_v call_v devil_n when_o christ_n be_v call_v a_o devil_n so_o reason_v christ_n say_v how_o much_o more_o shall_v they_o call_v they_o of_o the_o household_n beelzebub_n vers._n 26._o fear_v they_o not_o therefore_o for_o there_o be_v nothing_o cover_v that_o shall_v not_o be_v reveal_v and_o hide_v that_o shall_v not_o be_v know_v the_o eight_o reason_n the_o truth_n of_o my_o doctrine_n and_o your_o innocency_n must_v both_o be_v bring_v to_o light_v upon_o all_o hazard_n therefore_o fear_v not_o but_o avow_v my_o gospel_n bold_o better_a than_o beelzebub_n yet_o shall_v it_o be_v bring_v forth_o to_o light_n in_o god_n time_n for_o our_o lord_n have_v say_v that_o there_o be_v nothing_o cover_v that_o shall_v not_o be_v reveal_v nor_o secret_a which_o shall_v not_o be_v know_v thus_o may_v this_o general_a sentence_n serve_v the_o purpose_n in_o this_o place_n 3._o because_o at_o last_o the_o light_n of_o the_o gospel_n shall_v break_v forth_o and_o overcome_v all_o obstacle_n therefore_o minister_n shall_v bold_o preach_v christ_n truth_n and_o thus_o also_o do_v this_o general_a sentence_n serve_v christ_n intent_n as_o the_o next_o verse_n make_v it_o plain_a vers._n 27._o what_o i_o tell_v you_o in_o darkness_n that_o speak_v you_o in_o light_n and_o what_o you_o hear_v in_o the_o ear_n that_o preach_v you_o upon_o the_o house_n top_n christ_n command_v his_o apostle_n to_o publish_v as_o open_o as_o they_o can_v whatsoever_o he_o shall_v reveal_v unto_o they_o in_o any_o manner_n of_o and_o the_o trial_n of_o all_o who_o shall_v hear_v of_o it_o and_o be_v worthy_a to_o be_v avow_v open_o for_o he_o say_v what_o i_o tell_v you_o in_o darkness_n that_o speak_v you_o in_o light_n and_o what_o you_o hear_v in_o the_o care_n that_o preach_v on_o the_o house_n top_n ver._n 28._o and_o fear_v not_o they_o which_o kill_v the_o body_n but_o be_v not_o able_a to_o kill_v the_o soul_n but_o rather_o fear_v he_o which_o be_v able_a to_o destroy_v both_o soul_n and_o body_n in_o hell_n the_o nine_o reason_n you_o must_v fear_v i_o who_o be_o able_a to_o kill_v both_o soul_n and_o body_n therefore_o fear_v not_o man_n who_o can_v harm_v you_o so_o much_o doct._n 1._o plain_a and_o faithful_a preach_v of_o christ_n truth_n may_v ready_o be_v meet_v with_o persecution_n and_o hazard_v of_o life_n and_o a_o man_n must_v be_v master_n of_o death_n and_o deliver_v of_o the_o fear_n not_o only_o of_o small_a loss_n but_o even_o of_o the_o loss_n of_o life_n also_o if_o he_o will_v preach_v all_o christ_n truth_n as_o he_o shall_v therefore_o say_v christ_n fear_v not_o they_o which_o kill_v the_o body_n 2._o all_o that_o man_n can_v do_v against_o a_o faithful_a witness_n of_o christ_n truth_n be_v to_o take_v the_o life_n of_o the_o body_n they_o can_v reach_v to_o the_o soul_n to_o destroy_v it_o or_o to_o take_v away_o from_o it_o righteousness_n or_o peace_n or_o joy_n in_o the_o holy_a ghost_n for_o they_o be_v not_o able_a to_o kill_v the_o soul_n say_v he_o 3._o the_o true_a remedy_n of_o all_o base_a fear_n of_o the_o creature_n and_o of_o death_n be_v the_o true_a fear_n of_o god_n therefore_o say_v he_o fear_v he_o rather_o which_o be_v able_a to_o destroy_v soul_n and_o body_n in_o hell_n 4._o if_o a_o man_n suppress_v the_o testimony_n which_o he_o shall_v give_v to_o christ_n for_o fear_n of_o be_v kill_v by_o man_n he_o fall_v in_o the_o danger_n of_o be_v cast_v in_o hell_n and_o lose_v soul_n and_o body_n this_o be_v import_v in_o the_o say_n fear_v he_o which_o be_v able_a to_o destroy_v soul_n and_o body_n in_o hell_n vers._n 29._o be_v not_o two_o sparrow_n sell_v for_o a_o farthing_n and_o one_o of_o they_o shall_v not_o fall_v on_o the_o ground_n without_o your_o father_n 30._o but_o the_o very_a hair_n of_o your_o head_n be_v all_o number_v 31._o fear_v you_o not_o therefore_o you_o be_v of_o more_o when_o a_o man_n receive_v the_o gospel_n for_o some_o motive_n of_o a_o temporary_a good_a the_o fear_n of_o some_o temporary_a evil_n such_o as_o be_v threaten_v in_o persecution_n will_v be_v able_a to_o drive_v he_o from_o his_o profess_a faith_n for_o when_o persecution_n come_v by_o and_o by_o he_o be_v offend_v and_o so_o a_o ffliction_n be_v a_o touchstone_n whereby_o to_o try_v the_o sincerity_n of_o professor_n vers._n 22._o he_o also_o that_o receive_v seed_n among_o the_o thorn_n be_v he_o that_o hear_v the_o word_n and_o the_o care_n of_o this_o world_n and_o the_o deceitfulness_n of_o riches_n choke_v the_o word_n and_o he_o become_v unfruitful_a from_o the_o exposition_n of_o the_o seed_n sow_v in_o thorny_a ground_n learn_v 1._o that_o however_o the_o word_n seem_v to_o be_v receive_v if_o it_o do_v not_o bring_v forth_o fruit_n of_o amendment_n of_o life_n if_o it_o beget_v not_o faith_n work_v by_o love_n it_o be_v like_a seed_n choke_v with_o thorn_n constitution_n of_o it_o in_o this_o world_n notwithstanding_o of_o the_o mixture_n of_o wicked_a hypocrite_n in_o it_o because_o therein_o christ_n rule_v as_o king_n and_o have_v his_o subject_n all_o profess_v he_o to_o be_v king_n of_o saint_n but_o especial_o in_o respect_n of_o his_o own_o elect_a therein_o who_o honour_v he_o in_o spirit_n in_o who_o he_o do_v begin_v eternal_a life_n and_o draw_v it_o on_o unto_o perfection_n 2._o the_o visible_a church_n be_v like_o a_o corn_n field_n wherein_o be_v sow_v good_a seed_n and_o noisome_a weed_n sound_a convert_n beget_v of_o god_n and_o wicked_a hypocrite_n who_o be_v the_o child_n of_o satan_n for_o the_o enemy_n sow_n tare_n among_o the_o wheat_n 3._o there_o be_v no_o more_o possibility_n for_o man_n to_o eschew_v the_o incoming_a of_o hypocrite_n into_o the_o church_n than_o for_o any_o husband-man_n servant_n to_o hinder_v a_o enemy_n to_o cast_v in_o the_o seed_n of_o weed_n in_o their_o master_n field_n in_o the_o night_n when_o man_n do_v sleep_v 4._o it_o be_v a_o matter_n of_o grief_n and_o offence_n to_o see_v in_o the_o church_n of_o god_n so_o many_o unprofitable_a and_o noisome_a weed_n so_o many_o wicked_a hypocrite_n and_o naughty_a person_n this_o the_o servant_n come_v to_o regrate_a the_o matter_n do_v import_v 5._o the_o rash_a zeal_n of_o servant_n before_o they_o consult_v the_o lord_n their_o master_n be_v ready_a with_o the_o hazard_n of_o the_o church_n and_o true_a member_n thereof_o to_o have_v such_o a_o constitution_n of_o the_o visible_a church_n as_o they_o shall_v suffer_v none_o to_o be_v a_o member_n who_o be_v not_o inward_o regenerate_v but_o have_v all_o other_o of_o who_o inward_a regeneration_n they_o be_v not_o assure_v pluck_v from_o among_o professor_n this_o be_v import_v in_o will_v thou_o that_o we_o go_v and_o gather_v they_o up_o 6._o the_o lord_n albeit_o he_o have_v give_v order_n to_o censure_v the_o scandalous_a offender_n yet_o he_o discharge_v his_o servant_n to_o prosse_v towards_o such_o a_o separation_n as_o to_o have_v all_o the_o weed_n and_o wicked_a in_o heart_n to_o be_v cast_v out_o lest_o while_o they_o gather_v out_o the_o graceless_a tare_n they_o shall_v root_v out_o also_o the_o gracious_a wheat_n with_o they_o for_o it_o be_v not_o possible_a for_o any_o man_n to_o discern_v the_o renew_v from_o the_o unrenew_v so_o clear_o but_o he_o may_v be_v mistake_v this_o christ_n mean_v by_o he_o say_v nay_o lest_o you_o root_v up_o the_o wheat_n with_o they_o 7._o the_o lord_n account_v it_o less_o hazard_n to_o suffer_v many_o hypocrite_n to_o be_v in_o the_o visible_a church_n then_o to_o hold_v out_o or_o cast_v out_o of_o it_o any_o one_o of_o the_o weak_a of_o the_o elect_a and_o convert_v child_n for_o so_o he_o reckon_v here_o that_o it_o be_v much_o safe_a to_o suffer_v many_o weed_n to_o grow_v in_o god_n field_n then_o to_o hazard_v one_o grain_n of_o good_a wheat_n by_o seek_v to_o root_v out_o
general_a little_a child_n shall_v be_v admit_v to_o the_o sign_n of_o his_o blessing_n because_o of_o such_o be_v the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n then_o who_o be_v he_o who_o after_o he_o have_v hear_v the_o disciple_n reprove_v for_o debar_v of_o such_o dare_v debar_v any_o such_o from_o the_o first_o sign_n of_o entry_n into_o christ_n kingdom_n for_o christ_n have_v say_v by_o way_n of_o truth_n for_o which_o we_o be_v call_v to_o suffer_v by_o our_o own_o teacher_n when_o they_o begin_v to_o swerve_v from_o the_o truth_n be_v a_o hard_a onset_n against_o a_o man_n faith_n than_o when_o fire_n and_o sword_n be_v threaten_v in_o the_o case_n of_o a_o cause_n clear_a and_o not_o question_v by_o our_o teacher_n ver._n 12._o and_o because_o iniquity_n shall_v abound_v the_o love_n of_o many_o shall_v wax_v cold_a the_o six_o temptation_n or_o sort_n of_o exercise_n be_v that_o the_o godly_a shall_v be_v cold-rise_a in_o love_n one_o towards_o another_o and_o not_o find_v respect_n and_o credit_v ready_o one_o of_o another_o and_o that_o because_o they_o shall_v see_v iniquity_n and_o hypocrisy_n so_o abound_v in_o the_o visible_a church_n as_o one_o shall_v suspect_v another_o and_o not_o dare_v to_o trust_v one_o another_o and_o so_o shall_v not_o let_v forth_o their_o love_n one_o towards_o another_o save_v very_o cold_o as_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v in_o the_o case_n of_o mutual_a suspicion_n one_o of_o another_o doct._n 1._o honest_a man_n do_v suffer_v much_o in_o their_o estimation_n when_o the_o hypocrisy_n of_o hypocrite_n be_v discover_v for_o iniquity_n abound_v breed_v mutual_a suspicion_n of_o one_o another_o sincerity_n a_o man_n not_o know_v who_o to_o trust_v when_o by_o out-breaking_a of_o much_o iniquity_n he_o find_v many_o to_o be_v false_a 2._o when_o abound_v iniquity_n breed_v mutual_a jealousy_n as_o estimation_n and_o confidence_n mutual_a be_v weaken_v so_o be_v mutual_a love_n diminish_v therefore_o say_v he_o because_o iniquity_n shall_v abound_v the_o love_n of_o many_o shall_v wax_v cold_a 3._o this_o be_v a_o sore_a trial_n when_o beside_o the_o common_a adversary_n the_o godly_a do_v grow_v suspicious_a one_o of_o another_o and_o dare_v not_o trust_v one_o another_o and_o so_o do_v grow_v cold_a in_o their_o love_n to_o one_o another_o it_o be_v a_o sore_a trial_n i_o say_v when_o
