preach_n and_o miracle_n paul_n moreover_o they_o themselves_o preach_v &_o wrought_v miracle_n while_o christ_n be_v yet_o live_v in_o the_o world_n who_o paul_n never_o see_v in_o the_o flesh_n &_o as_o touch_v his_o conversion_n it_o be_v long_o after_o the_o glorification_n of_o christ_n wherefore_o they_o shall_v now_o consider_v which_o of_o these_o they_o aught_o more_o to_o believe_v place_n he_o allege_v out_o of_o moses_n who_o use_v the_o same_o 3.26_o not_o once_o but_o many_o time_n thou_o shall_v not_o accept_v in_o judgement_n the_o person_n of_o the_o rich_a man_n or_o of_o the_o poor_a and_o this_o be_v a_o principle_n of_o divinity_n god_n be_v no_o acceptor_n of_o person_n with_o the_o which_o say_n he_o stop_v the_o mouth_n of_o the_o false_a apostle_n as_o saul_n one_o of_o the_o great_a king_n yea_o &_o the_o first_o of_o all_o to_o fall_v away_o &_o to_o be_v damn_v ishmael_n also_o &_o esau_n he_o refuse_v be_v both_o first_o bear_v so_o shall_v you_o find_v throughout_o all_o the_o whole_a scripture_n that_o god_n oftentimes_o reject_v those_o which_o in_o outward_a show_n be_v very_o good_a &_o holy_a man_n and_o in_o these_o example_n they_o preach_v the_o gospel_n yet_o through_o their_o dissimulation_n which_o can_v not_o stand_v with_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o gospel_n they_o establish_v the_o law_n but_o the_o establish_n of_o the_o law_n be_v the_o abolish_n of_o the_o gospel_n who_o so_o then_o can_v right_o judge_v between_o the_o law_n and_o the_o gospel_n let_v he_o thank_v god_n and_o know_v that_o he_o be_v a_o earth_n between_o light_n and_o darkness_n gospel_n between_o day_n and_o night_n let_v the_o one_o be_v as_o the_o light_n and_o the_o day_n and_o the_o other_o as_o the_o darkness_n and_o the_o night_n and_o will_v to_o god_n we_o can_v yet_o further_o separate_v the_o one_o from_o the_o other_o wherefore_o if_o the_o question_n be_v concern_v the_o matter_n of_o faith_n or_o conscience_n let_v we_o utter_o exclude_v the_o law_n and_o leave_v it_o on_o the_o earth_n but_o if_o we_o have_v to_o do_v with_o work_n then_o let_v we_o lighten_v the_o lantern_n of_o work_n and_o of_o the_o confute_v he_o intermix_v sometime_o gentle_a exhortation_n and_o sometime_o he_o sharp_o chide_v according_a to_o his_o own_o rule_n give_v to_o timothy_n preach_v say_v he_o the_o word_n be_v instant_a in_o season_n and_o out_o of_o season_n 4.5_o improve_v rebuke_n exhort_v 2._o timot._fw-la 4._o here_o the_o simple_a reader_n haply_o may_v be_v deceive_v if_o he_o be_v not_o circumspect_a teach_v to_o think_v that_o paul_n in_o teach_v keep_v no_o order_n at_o all_o and_o sure_o after_o the_o manner_n of_o the_o rhetorician_n he_o observe_v none_o but_o as_o concern_v the_o spirit_n he_o use_v a_o goodly_a order_n now_o after_o that_o he_o have_v sufficient_o prove_v and_o with_o two_o strong_a argument_n confirm_v this_o article_n that_o christian_a righteousness_n come_v not_o by_o keep_v of_o the_o law_n but_o by_o faith_n in_o christ_n and_o withal_o have_v confute_v the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o false_a apostle_n in_o the_o mid_n of_o this_o discourse_n he_o turn_v his_o talk_n to_o the_o galatian_n galatian_n and_o reprove_v they_o say_v oh_o you_o foolish_a galatian_n etc_n etc_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v alas_o from_o whence_o be_v you_o fall_v oh_o you_o miserable_a galatian_n i_o have_v most_o careful_o and_o diligent_o teach_v you_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o you_o also_o have_v receive_v the_o same_o of_o i_o with_o fervent_a zeal_n and_o great_a diligence_n how_o then_o come_v it_o to_o pass_v that_o you_o be_v so_o sudden_o fall_v away_o from_o it_o who_o have_v bewitch_v you_o sharp_o he_o rebuke_v the_o galatian_n very_o sharp_o as_o it_o seem_v when_o he_o call_v they_o fool_n bewitch_v and_o disobedient_a to_o the_o truth_n now_o whether_o he_o do_v this_o of_o zeal_n or_o compassion_n i_o will_v not_o here_o contend_v both_o may_v be_v true_a a_o carnal_a man_n will_v interpret_v this_o to_o be_v a_o revile_v rather_o than_o a_o godly_a reprehension_n do_v paul_n then_o geve_v a_o evil_a example_n or_o be_v he_o spiteful_a against_o the_o church_n of_o galatia_n because_o he_o call_v they_o foolish_a and_o bewitch_v no_o not_o so_o for_o with_o a_o christian_a zeal_n it_o be_v lawful_a for_o a_o apostle_n pastor_n or_o preacher_n sharp_o to_o reprove_v the_o people_n commit_v to_o his_o charge_n child_n and_o such_o reproving_n be_v both_o fatherly_a &_o godly_a so_o parent_n of_o a_o fatherly_a and_o motherly_a affection_n do_v sharp_o reprove_v and_o rebuke_v their_o child_n which_o they_o will_v not_o bear_v if_o a_o other_o shall_v do_v it_o the_o schoolmaster_n sometime_o be_v angry_a with_o his_o scholar_n he_o rebuke_v he_o and_o beat_v he_o with_o rod_n all_o which_o he_o take_v in_o good_a part_n and_o will_v not_o bear_v it_o at_o the_o hand_n of_o his_o equal_a the_o magistrate_n likewise_o be_v angry_a he_o reprove_v and_o punish_v such_o as_o be_v under_o his_o charge_n and_o this_o discipline_n be_v not_o only_o good_a but_o also_o very_o necessary_a virtue_n without_o the_o which_o nothing_o can_v be_v well_o do_v wherefore_o unless_o the_o magistrate_n the_o minister_n the_o father_n and_o mother_n be_v angry_a and_o use_v to_o reprove_v or_o rebuke_v when_o case_n require_v he_o be_v unprofitable_a and_o never_o shall_v discharge_v his_o office_n right_o wherefore_o sharp_a chide_n &_o bitter_a word_n be_v as_o necessary_a in_o every_o kind_n of_o life_n as_o any_o other_o virtue_n else_o yet_o notwithstanding_o this_o anger_n must_v be_v so_o temper_v that_o it_o proceed_v not_o of_o any_o envy_n or_o malice_n but_o only_o of_o a_o fatherly_a affection_n and_o christian_a zeal_n that_o be_v to_o say_v it_o ought_v not_o to_o be_v childish_a or_o womanlike_a seek_v revenge_n but_o only_o for_o the_o correct_v of_o the_o fault_n as_o the_o father_n correct_v not_o his_o child_n with_o desire_n to_o revenge_v but_o only_o that_o the_o child_n thereby_o may_v be_v the_o better_a jealousy_n and_o these_o kind_n of_o anger_n be_v good_a and_o be_v call_v in_o the_o scripture_n jealousy_n or_o zeal_n for_o in_o chastise_v my_o brother_n my_o child_n my_o scholar_n or_o subject_n in_o this_o sort_n i_o seek_v not_o his_o destruction_n but_o his_o profit_n and_o welfare_n it_o may_v be_v then_o that_o paul_n here_o rebuke_v the_o galatian_n either_o of_o a_o very_a zeal_n not_o to_o destroy_v they_o but_o by_o this_o mean_n to_o reduce_v they_o into_o the_o way_n again_o and_o to_o amend_v they_o or_o else_o of_o pity_n and_o compassion_n as_o it_o be_v by_o way_n of_o complaint_n for_o that_o it_o grieve_v he_o that_o the_o galatian_n shall_v be_v so_o miserable_o seduce_v as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v i_o be_o sorry_a and_o ashamed_a to_o hear_v of_o this_o your_o miserable_a case_n your_o wretched_a do_n etc_n etc_n in_o like_a manner_n do_v we_o also_o reprove_v the_o miserable_a not_o that_o we_o tread_v they_o down_o or_o upbraid_v they_o with_o their_o misery_n but_o as_o have_v compassion_n on_o they_o and_o seek_v their_o amendment_n this_o i_o say_v lest_o any_o man_n shall_v cavil_v that_o paul_n rail_v upon_o the_o church_n contrary_a to_o the_o rule_n of_o the_o gospel_n in_o like_a manner_n christ_n rebuke_v the_o pharisee_o call_v they_o serpent_n ghost_n the_o generation_n of_o viper_n the_o child_n of_o the_o devil_n but_o these_o be_v the_o rebuke_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n they_o be_v fatherly_a and_o motherly_a and_o as_o the_o chide_n of_o a_o faithful_a friend_n as_o it_o be_v say_v also_o in_o the_o proverb_n better_a be_v the_o wound_n of_o a_o friend_n then_o the_o kiss_n of_o a_o enemy_n 27.6_o thus_o one_o and_o the_o self_n same_o rebuke_n if_o it_o come_v out_o of_o the_o mouth_n of_o a_o father_n may_v be_v a_o great_a benefit_n but_o if_o it_o proceed_v out_o of_o the_o mouth_n of_o our_o equal_a or_o enemy_n it_o be_v a_o spiteful_a reproach_n when_o two_o man_n do_v both_o one_o thing_n in_o the_o one_o it_o be_v commendable_a and_o in_o the_o other_o it_o be_v clean_o contrary_a when_o christ_n and_o paul_n do_v reprove_v it_o be_v do_v with_o singular_a virtue_n and_o commendation_n but_o when_o a_o private_a man_n shall_v do_v the_o like_a in_o he_o it_o be_v a_o great_a vice_n therefore_o one_o and_o the_o self_n same_o word_n in_o the_o mouth_n of_o paul_n be_v a_o great_a virtue_n and_o a_o singular_a benefit_n but_o in_o the_o mouth_n of_o a_o other_o it_o be_v a_o shameful_a reproach_n here_o be_v a_o great_a vehemency_n to_o be_v note_v in_o this_o word_n galatian_n for_o he_o call_v they_o not_o brethren_n as_o else_o where_o he_o be_v wont_a to_o do_v galatian_n but_o he_o call_v they_o by_o the_o name_n of_o their_o country_n and_o it_o shall_v seem_v that_o it_o be_v the_o natural_a vice_n of_o that_o nation_n to_o be_v foolish_a like_a as_o it_o be_v the_o fault_n of_o the_o cretense_n to_o be_v liar_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v as_o you_o be_v call_v even_o so_o be_v you_o in_o deed_n and_o so_o you_o continue_v that_o be_v to_o say_v foolish_a galatian_n and_o this_o you_o prove_v even_o now_o in_o this_o business_n of_o the_o gospel_n wherein_o notwithstanding_o you_o ought_v to_o have_v show_v yourselves_o most_o wise_a but_o you_o continue_v still_o in_o your_o old_a nature_n and_o show_v yourselves_o no_o changeling_n thus_o paul_n by_o way_n of_o correction_n put_v they_o in_o mind_n of_o their_o corrupt_a nature_n moreover_o we_o be_v here_o admonish_v
to_o who_o be_v glory_n for_o ever_o this_o bewitch_a and_o sorcery_n than_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o a_o plain_a illusion_n of_o the_o devil_n be_v print_v in_o the_o heart_n a_o false_a opinion_n of_o christ_n and_o against_o christ_n and_o he_o that_o be_v delude_v with_o this_o opinion_n be_v bewitch_v they_o therefore_o that_o have_v this_o opinion_n bewitch_v that_o they_o be_v justify_v by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n or_o tradition_n of_o man_n be_v bewitch_v for_o this_o opinion_n be_v against_o faith_n and_o against_o christ_n paul_n use_v this_o word_n bewitch_v in_o contempt_n of_o the_o false_a apostle_n which_o so_o vehement_o urge_v the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o law_n and_o work_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v what_o a_o devilish_a bewitch_a be_v this_o for_o as_o the_o sense_n be_v pervert_v by_o bodily_a witchcraft_n so_o be_v the_o mind_n of_o man_n also_o delude_v by_o this_o spiritual_a with_o craft_n verse_n 1._o that_o you_o shall_v not_o obey_v the_o truth_n the_o galatian_n at_o the_o first_o do_v glad_o hear_v and_o obey_v the_o truth_n therefore_o where_o he_o say_v who_o have_v bewitch_v you_o he_o show_v that_o they_o be_v bewitch_v by_o these_o false_a apostle_n and_o be_v fall_v away_o from_o that_o truth_n which_o they_o before_o do_v obey_v but_o this_o seem_v yet_o a_o more_o bitter_a and_o vehement_a kind_n of_o speech_n when_o he_o say_v that_o they_o do_v not_o believe_v the_o truth_n for_o he_o signify_v by_o these_o word_n that_o they_o be_v bewitch_v and_o that_o he_o will_v deliver_v they_o from_o this_o witchery_n and_o yet_o they_o will_v not_o acknowledge_v nor_o receive_v this_o benefit_n for_o it_o be_v certain_a that_o he_o do_v not_o reduce_v all_o from_o the_o error_n of_o the_o false_a apostle_n unto_o the_o truth_n but_o that_o many_o of_o they_o remain_v yet_o still_o bewitch_v therefore_o he_o use_v these_o sharp_a and_o vehement_a word_n who_o have_v bewitch_v you_o as_o if_o he_o will_v say_v you_o be_v so_o delude_v and_o bewitch_v that_o now_o you_o can_v not_o obey_v the_o truth_n i_o fear_v lest_o many_o of_o you_o be_v utter_o lose_v and_o so_o fall_v away_o that_o you_o will_v never_o return_v again_o to_o the_o truth_n law_n here_o have_v you_o yet_o a_o other_o goodly_a commendation_n of_o the_o law_n and_o man_n own_o righteousness_n that_o it_o so_o bewitch_v man_n that_o they_o can_v not_o obey_v the_o truth_n hereof_o the_o apostle_n and_o the_o father_n of_o the_o primitive_a church_n do_v oftentimes_o make_v mention_n 5.16_o there_o be_v a_o sin_n unto_o death_n for_o which_o i_o say_v thou_o shall_v not_o pray_v 1._o john_n 5._o and_o again_o it_o be_v impossible_a that_o they_o which_o be_v once_o lighten_v 6.4.5.6_o and_o have_v taste_v of_o the_o heavenly_a gift_n and_o be_v make_v partaker_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o have_v taste_v of_o the_o good_a word_n of_o god_n and_o of_o the_o power_n of_o the_o world_n to_o come_v if_o they_o fall_v away_o shall_v be_v renew_a again_o by_o repentance_n etc_n etc_n heb._n 6._o these_o word_n sound_v at_o the_o first_o as_o if_o some_o novatian_a have_v speak_v they_o nonation_n but_o the_o apostle_n be_v constrain_v to_o speak_v after_o this_o manner_n because_o of_o the_o heretic_n and_o yet_o notwithstanding_o they_o do_v not_o hereby_o deny_v but_o that_o they_o which_o be_v fall_v may_v return_v again_o to_o the_o fellowship_n of_o the_o faithful_a after_o the_o same_o manner_n must_v we_o also_o speak_v at_o this_o day_n because_o of_o the_o author_n and_o master_n of_o error_n &_o sect_n that_o such_o shall_v never_o return_v to_o the_o truth_n notwithstanding_o some_o there_o be_v which_o do_v return_v but_o such_o as_o be_v not_o great_o bewitch_v or_o strong_o delude_v truth_n but_o the_o captain_n and_o the_o author_n of_o this_o sorcery_n do_v never_o return_v for_o to_o they_o we_o may_v well_o attribute_v this_o title_n which_o paul_n here_o give_v unto_o they_o that_o they_o can_v not_o hear_v nor_o abide_v the_o truth_n but_o study_n rather_o how_o they_o may_v resist_v it_o verse_n 1._o to_o who_o jesus_n christ_n before_o be_v describe_v in_o your_o sight_n it_o be_v bitter_o speak_v where_o he_o say_v before_o that_o they_o be_v so_o bewitch_v that_o they_o can_v not_o obey_v the_o truth_n but_o it_o be_v more_o bitter_o say_v when_o he_o add_v that_o christ_n be_v so_o lively_o describe_v before_o they_o that_o they_o may_v handle_v he_o with_o their_o hand_n and_o yet_o they_o will_v not_o obey_v the_o truth_n thus_o he_o convince_v they_o even_o by_o their_o own_o experience_n as_o though_o he_o will_v say_v you_o be_v so_o bewitch_v and_o delude_v with_o the_o devilish_a opinion_n of_o the_o false_a apostle_n that_o now_o you_o will_v not_o obey_v the_o truth_n and_o whereas_o i_o have_v with_o great_a travail_n and_o diligence_n set_v forth_o christ_n plain_o before_o your_o eye_n yet_o do_v this_o profit_n you_o nothing_o at_o al._n in_o these_o word_n he_o have_v respect_n to_o the_o former_a argument_n whereby_o he_o prove_v that_o to_o those_o that_o will_v be_v justify_v by_o the_o law_n christ_n be_v but_o the_o minister_n of_o sin_n that_o such_o do_v reject_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n and_o that_o to_o they_o christ_n die_v in_o vain_a which_o argument_n he_o have_v before_o more_o vehement_o prosecute_v and_o more_o large_o amplify_v in_o their_o presence_n as_o if_o a_o painter_n have_v purtred_a christ_n jesus_n before_o their_o eye_n now_o be_v absent_a he_o put_v they_o in_o mind_n of_o the_o same_o thing_n say_v to_o who_o jesus_n christ_n be_v describe_v in_o your_o sight_n as_o if_o he_o say_v there_o be_v no_o painter_n that_o with_o his_o colour_n can_v so_o lively_o set_v out_o christ_n unto_o you_o as_o i_o have_v paint_v he_o out_o by_o my_o preach_n and_o yet_o notwithstanding_o you_o still_o remain_v most_o miserable_o bewitch_v verse_n 1._o and_o be_v among_o you_o crucify_v what_o do_v i_o then_o paint_v out_o even_o christ_n himself_o how_o be_v that_o do_v in_o this_o sort_n that_o he_o be_v crucify_v in_o you_o or_o among_o you_o word_n he_o use_v here_o very_o rough_a and_o sharp_a word_n before_o he_o say_v that_o they_o seek_v righteousness_n by_o the_o law_n reject_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n and_o that_o to_o they_o christ_n die_v in_o vain_a now_o he_o add_v moreover_o that_o they_o crucify_v christ_n who_o before_o live_v &_o reign_v in_o they_o as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v you_o have_v now_o not_o only_o reject_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n not_o only_o to_o you_o christ_n die_v in_o vain_a but_o also_o he_o be_v most_o shameful_o crucify_v among_o you_o after_o the_o same_o manner_n he_o speak_v heb._n 6._o â—_o crucify_a to_o themselves_o again_o the_o son_n of_o god_n and_o make_v a_o mock_n of_o he_o etc_n etc_n if_o a_o man_n do_v but_o hear_v the_o name_n of_o a_o monk_n of_o his_o shave_a stead_n of_o he_o they_o set_v up_o a_o glorious_a witchcraft_n whereby_o man_n be_v so_o miserable_o charm_v and_o delude_v that_o they_o can_v not_o know_v christ_n to_o be_v their_o justifier_n their_o reconciler_n and_o saviour_n but_o a_o minister_n of_o sin_n their_o accuser_n their_o judge_n and_o their_o destroyer_n which_o must_v be_v pacify_v no_o otherwise_o then_o by_o our_o work_n and_o merit_n and_o out_o of_o this_o opinion_n do_v afterward_o spring_v the_o most_o pestilent_a &_o pernicious_a doctrine_n that_o be_v in_o the_o whole_a papacy_n which_o be_v this_o if_o thou_o will_v serve_v god_n thou_o must_v merit_v forgiveness_n of_o sin_n and_o everlasting_a life_n and_o must_v also_o help_v other_o to_o attain_v salvation_n thou_o must_v enter_v into_o a_o monastery_n vow_v obedience_n chastity_n poverty_n etc_n etc_n monk_n and_o friar_n perfection_n and_o the_o rest_n of_o that_o religious_a rabble_n be_v puff_v up_o with_o this_o opinion_n of_o their_o own_o holiness_n dream_v that_o they_o only_o be_v in_o the_o life_n and_o state_n of_o perfection_n and_o that_o other_o christian_n lead_v but_o a_o common_a life_n for_o they_o do_v no_o undue_a work_n or_o more_o than_o they_o be_v bind_v to_o do_v that_o be_v they_o do_v not_o vow_n and_o keep_v chastity_n poverty_n obedience_n etc_n etc_n they_o be_v but_o only_o baptize_v and_o keep_v the_o ten_o commandment_n but_o as_o for_o themselves_o beside_o that_o which_o be_v common_a as_o well_o to_o they_o as_o to_o other_o christian_n they_o keep_v also_o the_o work_n of_o do_v supererogation_n and_o the_o counsel_n of_o christ_n wherefore_o they_o hope_v to_o have_v merit_n and_o a_o place_n in_o heaven_n amongst_o the_o principal_a saint_n far_o above_o the_o common_a sort_n of_o christian_n devil_n this_o be_v undouted_o a_o horrible_a illusion_n of_o the_o devil_n whereby_o he_o have_v bewitch_v almost_o the_o whole_a world_n and_o every_o man_n the_o more_o holy_a he_o will_v seem_v to_o be_v the_o more_o he_o be_v snare_v with_o this_o witchery_n that_o be_v to_o say_v with_o that_o pestilent_a persuasion_n of_o his_o own_o righteousness_n and_o this_o be_v the_o cause_n that_o we_o can_v not_o know_v that_o jesus_n christ_n be_v our_o mediator_n &_o saviour_n but_o we_o do_v think_v that_o he_o be_v a_o severe_a judge_n which_o shall_v be_v pacify_v by_o our_o own_o work_n sin_n which_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o most_o horrible_o to_o blaspheme_v christ_n and_o as_o paul_n say_v before_o to_o reject_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n to_o make_v the_o death_n of_o christ_n of_o none_o effect_n and_o not_o only_o to_o kill_v he_o but_o also_o most_o shameful_o to_o crucify_v he_o again_o and_o this_o be_v the_o right_a meaning_n of_o that_o which_o christ_n allege_v out_o of_o daniel_n that_o abomination_n stand_v in_o the_o holy_a place_n wherefore_o every_o monk_n and_o religious_a person_n and_o every_o justiciary_a seek_v remission_n of_o sin_n and_o righteousness_n by_o his_o own_o work_n or_o by_o his_o affliction_n be_v a_o crucifier_n of_o christ_n now_o reign_v and_o live_v although_o not_o in_o the_o proper_a person_n of_o christ_n yet_o in_o his_o own_o heart_n and_o in_o the_o heart_n of_o other_o and_o whosoever_o do_v enter_v into_o monastery_n to_o the_o end_n that_o by_o the_o keep_v of_o their_o rule_n and_o order_n they_o may_v be_v justify_v do_v enter_v into_o the_o den_n of_o thief_n and_o such_o as_o crucify_v christ_n again_o wherefore_o paul_n use_v in_o this_o place_n very_o rigorous_a and_o bitter_a word_n to_o the_o end_n that_o he_o may_v fear_v and_o call_v back_o the_o galatian_n from_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o false_a apostle_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v can_v acknowledge_v the_o benefit_n of_o christ_n yea_o in_o all_o their_o life_n they_o can_v do_v nothing_o else_o but_o not_o only_o deny_v the_o lord_n who_o have_v buy_v they_o and_o in_o who_o prosecute_v &_o drive_v into_o the_o head_n of_o the_o galatian_n very_o diligent_o first_o that_o they_o be_v so_o bewitch_v of_o the_o devil_n that_o they_o obey_v not_o the_o truth_n most_o clear_o set_v forth_o before_o their_o eye_n second_o that_o they_o crucify_v christ_n again_o in_o themselves_o these_o seem_v to_o be_v simple_a and_o plain_a word_n and_o without_o any_o high_a eloquence_n but_o in_o very_a deed_n they_o be_v so_o mighty_a that_o they_o exceed_v all_o the_o eloquence_n of_o man_n it_o can_v not_o therefore_o be_v comprehend_v but_o only_o in_o spirit_n righteousness_n righteousness_n of_o the_o law_n and_o man_n own_o righteousness_n the_o apostle_n therefore_o be_v here_o kindle_v with_o great_a zeal_n and_o with_o bitter_a word_n he_o pursue_v &_o condemn_v the_o presumption_n of_o our_o own_o righteousness_n rise_v upon_o the_o observation_n of_o the_o law_n of_o god_n and_o charge_v it_o with_o this_o impiety_n that_o it_o crucify_v again_o the_o son_n of_o constrain_v by_o great_a necessity_n for_o otherwise_o he_o can_v not_o withstand_v the_o false_a apostle_n nor_o defend_v the_o righteousness_n of_o faith_n against_o they_o albeit_o then_o that_o for_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n but_o now_o all_o be_v lose_v as_o well_o doctrine_n as_o faith_n as_o well_o do_v as_o suffering_n as_o well_o the_o spirit_n as_o the_o fruit_n thereof_o hereby_o it_o appear_v sufficient_o what_o inconvenience_n the_o righteousness_n of_o the_o law_n and_o man_n own_o righteousness_n bring_v bring_v to_o wit_n that_o they_o which_o trust_v in_o it_o do_v lose_v at_o once_o unspeakable_a benefit_n now_o what_o a_o miserable_a thing_n be_v it_o so_o sudden_o to_o lose_v such_o inestimable_a glory_n and_o assurance_n of_o conscience_n towards_o god_n also_o to_o endure_v so_o many_o great_a and_o grievous_a affliction_n as_o loss_n of_o good_n wife_n child_n body_n and_o life_n and_o yet_o notwithstanding_o to_o sustain_v all_o these_o thing_n entreat_v to_o wit_n the_o glory_n of_o god_n victory_n over_o the_o world_n the_o flesh_n and_o the_o devil_n righteousness_n and_o everlasting_a life_n and_o on_o the_o other_o side_n sin_n that_o you_o repent_v and_o amend_v for_o sickly_a and_o scab_a child_n may_v not_o be_v cast_v away_o but_o must_v be_v help_v and_o see_v to_o more_o careful_o than_o they_o which_o be_v in_o health_n so_o that_o paul_n here_o like_o a_o cunning_a physician_n lay_v all_o the_o fault_n in_o a_o manner_n upon_o the_o false_a apostle_n the_o author_n and_o only_a cause_n of_o this_o deadly_a disease_n contrariwise_o he_o entreat_v the_o galatian_n very_o gentle_o to_o the_o end_n that_o by_o this_o his_o mildness_n he_o may_v heal_v they_o and_o restore_v they_o again_o we_o therefore_o by_o the_o example_n of_o paul_n aught_o in_o like_a manner_n to_o reprehend_v the_o weak_a and_o so_o to_o heal_v and_o remove_v their_o disease_n that_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n we_o leave_v not_o of_o to_o cherish_v and_o comfort_v they_o lest_o if_o we_o handle_v they_o too_o sharp_o they_o fall_v into_o desperation_n verse_n 5._o he_o therefore_o that_o minister_v to_o you_o the_o spirit_n and_o work_v miracle_n among_o you_o do_v he_o it_o through_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n or_o by_o the_o hear_n of_o faith_n preach_v experience_n this_o argument_n ground_v upon_o the_o experience_n of_o the_o galatian_n do_v so_o well_o like_o the_o apostle_n that_o after_o he_o have_v rebuke_v and_o terrify_v they_o set_v before_o they_o a_o double_a danger_n and_o incommodity_n he_o now_o repeat_v the_o same_o again_o and_o that_o with_o a_o more_o large_a amplification_n say_v he_o which_o minister_v etc_o etc_o that_o be_v to_o say_v you_o have_v not_o only_o receive_v the_o spirit_n by_o the_o hear_n of_o faith_n but_o whatsoever_o you_o have_v either_o know_v or_o do_v you_o have_v it_o by_o the_o hear_n of_o faith_n as_o though_o he_o will_v say_v it_o be_v not_o enough_o that_o god_n give_v you_o once_o the_o spirit_n but_o the_o same_o god_n also_o have_v enrich_v you_o with_o the_o gift_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o increase_v the_o same_o in_o you_o to_o the_o end_n that_o you_o have_v once_o receive_v the_o spirit_n it_o may_v always_o grow_v and_o be_v more_o and_o more_o effectual_a in_o you_o hereby_o it_o be_v plain_a that_o the_o galatian_n have_v wrought_v miracle_n or_o at_o the_o lest_o have_v show_v such_o fruit_n of_o faith_n as_o the_o true_a disciple_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v wont_a to_o bring_v forth_o for_o the_o apostle_n conscience_n how_o come_v it_o to_o pass_v that_o you_o show_v not_o forth_o the_o same_o
promise_n so_o long_o before_o the_o law_n which_o he_o do_v of_o purpose_n and_o to_o this_o end_n la_o that_o it_o shall_v not_o be_v say_v that_o righteousness_n be_v give_v through_o the_o law_n and_o not_o through_o the_o promise_n for_o if_o he_o will_v that_o we_o shall_v have_v be_v justify_v by_o the_o law_n then_o will_v he_o have_v give_v the_o law_n 430._o year_n before_o the_o promise_n or_o else_o together_o with_o the_o promise_n but_o now_o at_o the_o first_o he_o speak_v not_o a_o word_n as_o concern_v the_o law_n but_o at_o the_o length_n after_o 430._o year_n he_o promise_n whereby_o the_o believer_n even_o before_o christ_n time_n be_v save_v which_o be_v now_o publish_v by_o the_o gospel_n throughout_o the_o whole_a world_n destroy_v the_o law_n so_o that_o certain_a vehemency_n special_o to_o be_v note_v that_o he_o express_o set_v down_o the_o number_n of_o .430_o year_n as_o if_o he_o will_v say_v consider_v with_o yourselves_o how_o long_o it_o be_v between_o the_o promise_n give_v and_o the_o law_n it_o be_v plain_a that_o abraham_n receive_v the_o promise_n a_o long_a time_n before_o the_o law_n for_o the_o law_n be_v give_v to_o the_o people_n of_o israel_n .430_o year_n after_o and_o this_o be_v a_o invincible_a argument_n gather_v and_o ground_v upon_o a_o certain_a time_n and_o he_o speak_v not_o here_o of_o the_o law_n in_o general_a that_o shall_v do_v these_o thing_n shall_v live_v in_o they_o and_o although_o it_o promise_v such_o thing_n yet_o it_o follow_v not_o therefore_o that_o we_o obtain_v these_o promise_n for_o it_o say_v plain_o the_o man_n that_o shall_v do_v these_o thing_n etc_n etc_n now_o it_o be_v certain_a that_o no_o man_n can_v do_v they_o moreover_o paul_n say_v that_o the_o law_n can_v not_o abolish_v the_o promise_n therefore_o that_o promise_v make_v unto_o abraham_n .430_o year_n before_o the_o law_n remain_v firm_a and_o constant_a and_o that_o the_o matter_n may_v be_v better_o understand_v i_o will_v declare_v the_o same_o by_o a_o similitude_n similitude_n if_o a_o rich_a man_n not_o constrain_v but_o of_o his_o own_o good_a will_n shall_v adopt_v one_o to_o be_v his_o son_n who_o he_o see_v that_o many_o year_n before_o he_o ask_v nothing_o have_v receive_v the_o same_o free_o and_o of_o mere_a favour_n so_o god_n can_v not_o respect_v our_o work_n and_o desert_n go_v before_o righteousness_n for_o the_o promise_n and_o the_o gift_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n be_v .430_o year_n before_o the_o law_n hereby_o it_o appear_v that_o abraham_n obtain_v not_o righteousness_n before_o god_n through_o the_o law_n law_n for_o there_o be_v yet_o no_o law_n if_o there_o be_v yet_o no_o law_n than_o be_v there_o neither_o work_n nor_o merit_n what_o then_o nothing_o else_o but_o the_o mere_a promise_n this_o promise_n abraham_n believe_v and_o it_o be_v count_v to_o he_o for_o righteousness_n by_o the_o self_n same_o mean_n then_o that_o the_o father_n obtain_v this_o for_o in_o time_n distinguish_v in_o place_n and_o in_o person_n and_o general_o in_o all_o other_o circumstance_n they_o be_v separate_v as_o far_o asunder_o as_o heaven_n and_o earth_n the_o beginning_n of_o the_o world_n and_o the_o late_a end_n in_o deed_n they_o be_v near_o neighbour_n for_o they_o be_v join_v together_o in_o one_o man_n or_o in_o one_o soul_n but_o in_o the_o inward_a sweet_o and_o comfortable_o reign_v in_o the_o conscience_n when_o thou_o have_v thus_o appoint_v unto_o they_o both_o their_o own_o proper_a place_n than_o thou_o walk_v safe_o between_o they_o both_o in_o the_o heaven_n of_o the_o promise_n and_o in_o the_o earth_n of_o the_o law_n they_o in_o spirit_n thou_o walk_v in_o the_o paradise_n of_o grace_n and_o peace_n in_o the_o flesh_n thou_o sweetness_n of_o the_o promise_n which_o comfort_v and_o rejoice_v the_o heart_n exceed_o but_o now_o if_o thou_o confound_v and_o mingle_v these_o two_o together_o together_o and_o place_v the_o law_n in_o the_o conscience_n and_o the_o promise_n of_o liberty_n in_o the_o flesh_n than_o thou_o make_v a_o confusion_n such_o as_o be_v in_o popery_n so_o that_o thou_o shall_v not_o know_v what_o the_o law_n what_o the_o promise_n what_o sin_n or_o what_o righteousness_n be_v wherefore_o if_o thou_o will_v divide_v the_o word_n of_o truth_n aright_o thou_o must_v put_v a_o great_a difference_n between_o the_o promise_n and_o the_o law_n as_o touch_v the_o inward_a affection_n and_o whole_a practice_n of_o life_n law_n it_o be_v not_o for_o naught_o that_o paul_n prosecute_v this_o they_o with_o the_o spirit_n of_o meekness_n for_o they_o can_v not_o be_v bring_v into_o the_o right_a way_n again_o by_o any_o other_o mean_n and_o by_o over_o sharp_a reprove_v and_o rebuke_v they_o be_v provoke_v to_o anger_n or_o else_o to_o desperation_n but_o not_o to_o repentance_n and_o here_o be_v to_o be_v note_v by_o the_o way_n that_o such_o be_v the_o nature_n and_o fruit_n of_o true_a and_o sound_a doctrine_n that_o when_o it_o be_v well_o teach_v and_o well_o understand_v doctrine_n it_o join_v man_n heart_n together_o with_o a_o singular_a concord_n but_o when_o man_n reject_v godly_a and_o sincere_a doctrine_n and_o embrace_v error_n this_o unity_n and_o concord_n be_v soon_o break_a doctrine_n therefore_o as_o soon_o as_o thou_o see_v thy_o brother_n seduce_v by_o vain_a and_o fantastical_a spirit_n to_o fall_v from_o the_o article_n of_o justification_n thou_o shall_v perceive_v that_o by_o and_o by_o they_o will_v pursue_v the_o faithful_a with_o we_o and_o reverence_v we_o for_o the_o same_o as_o the_o minister_n of_o god_n some_o of_o they_o also_o live_v familiar_o with_o we_o for_o a_o time_n and_o behave_v themselves_o very_o modest_o you_o the_o truth_n here_o he_o show_v the_o reason_n why_o he_o speak_v the_o galatian_n so_o fair_a for_o he_o suspect_v that_o they_o take_v he_o for_o their_o enemy_n because_o he_o have_v reprove_v they_o so_o sharp_o i_o pray_v you_o say_v he_o set_v apart_o these_o rebuke_n and_o separate_v they_o from_o doctrine_n and_o you_o shall_v find_v that_o my_o purpose_n be_v not_o to_o rebuke_v you_o but_o to_o teach_v you_o the_o truth_n in_o deed_n i_o confess_v that_o my_o epistle_n be_v sharp_a and_o severe_a but_o by_o this_o severity_n i_o go_v about_o to_o call_v you_o back_o spiritual_a sorcery_n and_o witchcraft_n paul_n reckon_v witchcraft_n among_o the_o work_n of_o the_o flesh_n witchcraft_n which_o notwithstanding_o as_o all_o man_n know_v be_v not_o a_o work_n of_o fleshly_a lust_n or_o lechery_n but_o a_o kind_n of_o idolatry_n for_o witchcraft_n covenant_v with_o the_o devil_n idolatry_n superstition_n or_o idolatry_n covenant_v with_o god_n albeit_o not_o with_o the_o true_a god_n but_o with_o a_o counterfeit_a god_n wherefore_o idolatry_n be_v in_o deed_n a_o spiritual_a witchcraft_n for_o as_o witch_n do_v enchant_v cattle_n &_o man_n so_o idolater_n diverse_a place_n archheretic_n notwithstanding_o the_o pope_n be_v a_o archhereticke_n and_o the_o head_n of_o all_o heretic_n for_o he_o have_v fill_v the_o world_n as_o it_o be_v with_o a_o huge_a flood_n of_o infinite_a sect_n and_o error_n what_o concord_n and_o unity_n be_v there_o in_o so_o great_a diversity_n of_o the_o monk_n and_o other_o religious_a order_n no_o one_o sort_n or_o sect_n of_o they_o can_v agree_v with_o a_o other_o for_o they_o measure_v their_o holiness_n by_o the_o straitness_n of_o their_o order_n hereof_o it_o come_v that_o the_o carthusian_n will_v needs_o be_v sectary_n &_o schismatic_n but_o they_o all_o thought_n that_o he_o speak_v of_o the_o gross_a idolatry_n and_o heresy_n of_o the_o gentile_n &_o turk_n which_o manifest_o blaspheme_v the_o name_n of_o christ_n drunkenness_n gluttony_n paul_n do_v not_o say_v that_o to_o eat_v &_o drink_n be_v work_n of_o the_o flesh_n but_o to_o be_v drunken_a &_o to_o surfeit_v which_o of_o all_o other_o destitute_a of_o all_o judgement_n that_o they_o perceive_v not_o whereabout_o the_o apostle_n go_v i_o speak_v this_o to_o the_o end_n you_o may_v see_v how_o easy_o the_o devil_n by_o his_o minister_n can_v turn_v away_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o simple_a from_o the_o truth_n germany_n shall_v short_o have_v a_o infinite_a number_n of_o such_o beast_n yea_o and_o already_o have_v very_o many_o for_o on_o the_o one_o side_n it_o persecute_v and_o kill_v the_o godly_a minister_n and_o on_o the_o other_o side_n it_o neglect_v and_o despise_v they_o and_o suffer_v they_o to_o live_v in_o great_a penury_n let_v we_o arm_v ourselves_o against_o these_o and_o such_o like_a error_n and_o let_v we_o learn_v to_o know_v the_o true_a meaning_n of_o the_o scripture_n for_o paul_n speak_v not_o here_o of_o matrimony_n but_o of_o nourish_v the_o minister_n of_o the_o church_n which_o every_o man_n
