there_o even_o of_o one_o and_o he_o as_o good_a as_o dead_a spring_v as_o many_o as_o the_o star_n of_o the_o sky_n so_o likewise_o here_o viz._n in_o the_o soul_n of_o one_o grain_n of_o grace_n and_o that_o even_o as_o dead_a to_o sense_n 13.19_o see_v lu._n 13.19_o there_o spring_v up_o the_o great_a tree_n which_o reach_v as_o high_a as_o heaven_n let_v this_o therefore_o be_v mind_v as_o heart_n why_o this_o fear_n of_o thou_o may_v be_v a_o good_a sign_n that_o he_o have_v but_o second_o this_o fear_n may_v argue_v a_o beginning_n of_o the_o work_n certain_a this_o fear_n be_v of_o god_n and_o how_o do_v thou_o know_v but_o that_o now_o god_n be_v beginning_n at_o least_o to_o work_v upon_o thou_o it_o be_v a_o stand_a truth_n 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d the_o fear_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v the_o begin_n of_o wisdom_n now_o the_o meaning_n hereof_o may_v be_v that_o the_o first_o thing_n for_o so_o the_o word_n signify_v which_o be_v wrought_v in_o the_o soul_n in_o the_o work_n of_o wisdom_n i.e._n of_o grace_n and_o bolinesse_n for_o so_o wisdom_n signify_v be_v fear_n thy_o fear_n therefore_o may_v hint_n that_o the_o work_n be_v in_o sieri_fw-la i._n e._n begin_n if_o it_o be_v not_o in_o factu_fw-la i._n e._n begin_v already_o however_o god_n may_v make_v use_n of_o it_o to_o that_o end_n what_o can_v thou_o tell_v but_o now_o that_o thy_o soul_n be_v trouble_v with_o doubt_n about_o the_o work_n of_o grace_n god_n may_v make_v use_n of_o this_o fear_n to_o drive_v thou_o out_o of_o thy_o state_n of_o nature_n and_o to_o draw_v thou_o into_o the_o state_n of_o grace_n how_o many_o poor_a soul_n have_v cry_v out_o i_o have_v no_o true_a grace_n god_n have_v not_o at_o all_o wrought_v upon_o my_o heart_n woe_n be_v i_o what_o shall_v i_o do_v i_o will_v run_v after_o he_o i_o will_v cry_v for_o he_o etc._n etc._n and_o while_o the_o soul_n have_v be_v in_o this_o fear_n god_n have_v begin_v make_v use_n thereof_o to_o work_v real_o upon_o their_o soul_n thus_o it_o have_v be_v with_o some_o consider_v it_o may_v be_v with_o thou_o so_o and_o therefore_o three_o suppose_v it_o be_v as_o you_o fear_v suppose_v god_n have_v as_o qu_n yes_o o_o yes_o i_o be_o willing_a but_o alas_o what_o though_o i_o will_v if_o god_n will_v not_o reply_v why_o god_n be_v willing_a o_o soul_n this_o be_v the_o will_n of_o god_n even_o your_o sanctification_n he_o will_v it_o and_o if_o god_n will_v and_o thou_o will_v too_o what_o shall_v hinder_v qu_n nay_o but_o what_o shall_v move_v god_n to_o work_v on_o i_o alas_o i_o be_o a_o poor_a pollute_a sinner_n and_o will_v the_o
but_o the_o soul_n convince_v by_o the_o spirit_n be_v convince_v of_o this_o sin_n as_o of_o the_o sin_n of_o sin_n viz._n unbelief_n oh_o say_v a_o soul_n which_o be_v convince_v by_o the_o spirit_n i_o know_v drunkenness_n be_v a_o sin_n uncleanness_n be_v a_o sin_n pride_n a_o sin_n etc._n etc._n but_o i_o know_v unbeleef_n be_v a_o sin_n as_o great_a ray_n great_a than_o they_o all_o this_o be_v lay_v upon_o my_o spirit_n that_o christ_n be_v come_v into_o the_o world_n sweet_o discover_v the_o love_n of_o god_n free_o tender_v reconcilement_n in_o his_o blood_n but_o i_o oh_o ay_o do_v little_o see_v and_o much_o slight_v he_o i_o do_v not_o make_v it_o my_o work_n to_o go_v after_o he_o nor_o have_v i_o be_v willing_a when_o he_o have_v come_v after_o i_o to_o accept_v he_o and_o in_o thy_o conviction_n do_v not_o thy_o soul_n say_v oh_o what_o a_o vile_a wretch_n have_v i_o be_v who_o have_v despise_v the_o riches_n of_o god_n goodness_n and_o who_o have_v not_o be_v lead_v thereby_o unto_o repentance_n stand_v thou_o convince_v of_o the_o greatness_n of_o sin_n by_o the_o consideration_n of_o the_o greatness_n of_o his_o love_n because_o god_n have_v be_v be_v and_o the_o spirit_n who_o give_v life_n the_o letter_n kill_v where_o the_o letter_n convince_v only_o it_o do_v leave_v a_o soul_n under_o the_o sentence_n of_o death_n but_o if_o together_o with_o the_o sentence_n of_o death_n for_o sin_n thou_o do_v also_o see_v the_o hope_n of_o life_n in_o a_o righteousness_n then_o there_o be_v something_o more_o and_o high_a than_o the_o letter_n in_o thy_o conviction_n even_o the_o holy_a ghost_n if_o then_o when_o thou_o be_v convince_v thou_o do_v see_v unbelief_n as_o the_o great_a sin_n and_o divine_a love_n as_o the_o great_a aggravation_n of_o storm_n thou_o do_v hear_v a_o still_a voice_n but_o say_v thou_o be_v the_o spirit_n in_o that_o voice_n sometime_o even_o after_o conviction_n thou_o do_v say_v thou_o do_v feel_v comfort_n but_o thou_o fear_v whether_o it_o be_v from_o the_o spirit_n or_o from_o the_o letter_n and_o fancy_n etc._n etc._n why_o now_o in_o order_n to_o the_o scatter_n of_o this_o fear_n let_v i_o entreat_v you_o to_o consider_v these_o three_o thing_n first_o whence_o it_o be_v that_o thy_o comfort_n be_v fetch_v which_o be_v bring_v to_o thou_o be_v it_o not_o such_o as_o one_o of_o a_o thousand_o can_v not_o bring_v come_v it_o not_o from_o jesus_n christ_n who_o can_v only_o give_v man_n his_o righteousness_n as_o it_o be_v job_n 33_o 23._o he_o shall_v take_v of_o i_o and_o shall_v show_v it_o unto_o you_o say_v christ_n of_o the_o spirit_n job_n 16.15_o where_o the_o spirit_n bring_v in_o comfort_n it_o be_v still_o show_v to_o be_v fetch_v from_o christ_n alas_o can_v not_o thou_o so_o he_o discover_v christ_n willing_a to_o embrace_v the_o soul_n and_o use_v this_o sight_n unto_o consolation_n the_o peace_n and_o comfort_n of_o some_o be_v rather_o from_o a_o cessation_n of_o the_o trouble_n of_o conscience_n then_o from_o a_o sight_n and_o discovery_n of_o christ_n now_o if_o thy_o comfort_n come_v only_o from_o a_o apprehension_n of_o christ_n and_o from_o a_o sight_n of_o the_o thing_n in_o he_o why_o be_v thou_o disquiet_v as_o if_o thy_o comfort_n be_v not_o from_o the_o spirit_n since_o as_o no_o man_n know_v the_o thing_n of_o a_o man_n save_o the_o spirit_n this_o god_n be_v not_o angry_a with_o his_o people_n prayer_n of_o which_o the_o psalmist_n there_o make_v mention_v though_o he_o do_v not_o at_o that_o time_n answer_v it_o your_o earthly_a why_o be_v trouble_v soul_n so_o much_o to_o be_v deny_v in_o these_o what_o be_v they_o in_o themselves_o but_o such_o thing_n as_o reprobate_n may_v have_v gift_n may_v go_v to_o hell_n yea_o many_o a_o gift_a person_n be_v graceless_a why_o be_v cast_v down_o with_o the_o denial_n of_o gift_n when_o christ_n have_v give_v grace_n without_o ask_v nay_o but_o they_o be_v grace_n that_o i_o beg_v and_o pray_v for_o i_o have_v go_v to_o beg_v faith_n and_o love_n and_o patience_n etc._n etc._n and_o yet_o i_o have_v no_o answer_n to_o these_o prayer_n ans_fw-fr stay_v yet_o o_o soul_n and_o consider_v it_o may_v be_v thou_o beg_v not_o so_o much_o the_o grace_n as_o the_o degree_n it_o be_v not_o so_o much_o faith_n as_o a_o strong_a faith_n not_o so_o much_o love_n as_o a_o fervent_a love_n etc._n etc._n now_o consider_v o_o soul_n though_o god_n deny_v thou_o the_o strength_n the_o degree_n of_o grace_n its_o choice_n mercy_n thou_o have_v the_o grace_n itself_o a_o little_a faith_n though_o but_o as_o a_o grain_n of_o mustardseed_n be_v precious_a be_v not_o cast_v down_o o_o poor_a heart_n if_o god_n deny_v thou_o great_a faith_n etc._n etc._n bless_v he_o for_o that_o he_o have_v give_v thou_o any_o faith_n etc._n etc._n obj._n but_o alas_o i_o doubt_v i_o have_v not_o faith_n at_o all_o etc._n etc._n it_o be_v not_o the_o degree_n of_o grace_n but_o the_o grace_n with_o we_o the_o child_n abroad_o send_v home_o for_o many_o thing_n now_o for_o a_o hat_n anon_o for_o a_o pair_n of_o shoe_n etc._n etc._n the_o father_n neither_o send_v the_o thing_n nor_o a_o answer_n but_o anon_o send_v for_o the_o child_n home_o and_o give_v he_o all_o mind_v you_o child_n of_o god_n for_o you_o be_v of_o that_o generation_n who_o seek_v his_o face_n your_o father_n will_v send_v for_o you_o home_o one_o of_o these_o day_n and_o by_o death_n he_o will_v fetch_v you_o hence_o and_o answer_v all_o your_o prayer_n at_o once_o now_o then_o bear_v up_o o_o deject_a soul_n be_v not_o cast_v down_o about_o your_o prayer_n as_o you_o be_v o_o remember_v in_o all_o this_o case_n christ_n live_v for_o ever_o to_o make_v intercession_n for_o we_o why_o shall_v we_o be_v so_o sad_a at_o the_o thought_n of_o our_o own_o prayer_n as_o to_o forget_v to_o rejoice_v in_o the_o faith_n of_o he_o if_o we_o sin_v he_o be_v our_o advocate_n if_o we_o want_v any_o thing_n dis-owned_n at_o last_o by_o christ_n the_o word_n have_v be_v sow_v among_o we_o but_o we_o fear_v not_o as_o the_o good_a seed_n in_o the_o good_a ground_n and_o something_o now_o must_v be_v say_v to_o satisfy_v these_o soul_n and_o there_o be_v but_o four_o thing_n which_o i_o shall_v offer_v brief_o to_o this_o purpose_n 1_o call_v to_o mind_n what_o it_o be_v o_o soul_n which_o in_o the_o of_o truth_n if_o upon_o this_o inquiry_n thou_o do_v find_v that_o naked_a truth_n in_o the_o discovery_n of_o the_o spirit_n do_v most_o take_v with_o and_o work_v upon_o thy_o heart_n thou_o need_v not_o be_v trouble_v about_o thy_o hear_v the_o word_n for_o sure_o thou_o have_v hear_v the_o word_n not_o as_o the_o word_n of_o man_n but_o of_o god_n 2_o consider_v what_o be_v the_o effect_n of_o
