of_o swear_v be_v most_o in_o use_n among_o the_o jew_n 2._o we_o be_v to_o note_v that_o our_o saviour_n call_v it_o swear_v to_o use_v these_o form_n of_o speech_n in_o attest_v what_o we_o say_v they_o be_v not_o so_o many_o word_n lose_v as_o we_o may_v be_v incline_v to_o think_v but_o we_o bring_v upon_o ourselves_o the_o obligation_n of_o a_o oath_n by_o the_o use_n of_o they_o as_o shall_v present_o appear_v if_o indeed_o any_o way_n of_o speak_v have_v obtain_v among_o we_o which_o look_v like_o swear_v but_o be_v not_o be_v altogether_o unapt_a to_o excite_v any_o thought_n of_o divine_a justice_n i_o do_v not_o question_v but_o they_o be_v to_o be_v lay_v aside_o too_o because_o sure_o the_o prohibition_n of_o swear_v at_o all_o exclude_v not_o only_o all_o real_a but_o all_o break_a apish_a and_o insignificant_a oath_n but_o if_o it_o be_v not_o so_o one_o will_v think_v that_o a_o small_a measure_n of_o sobriety_n and_o wisdom_n shall_v keep_v a_o man_n from_o debase_v and_o vilify_a the_o acknowledge_v form_n of_o speak_v that_o be_v peculiar_a to_o oath_n by_o apply_v they_o to_o such_o senseless_a sound_n as_o make_v they_o to_o signify_v nothing_o it_o be_v a_o good_a rule_n which_o a_o wise_a man_n have_v give_v that_o all_o form_n beside_o those_o wherein_o there_o be_v a_o immediate_a appeal_n to_o god_n be_v better_o avoid_v when_o there_o be_v need_n of_o swear_v and_o when_o there_o be_v no_o need_n we_o shall_v not_o swear_v at_o all_o neither_o by_o heaven_n nor_o by_o any_o thing_n else_o let_v we_o now_o consider_v 3._o the_o reason_n why_o the_o prohibition_n extend_v to_o these_o instance_n and_o the_o like_a not_o by_o heaven_n for_o it_o be_v god_n throne_n and_o he_o that_o swear_v by_o heaven_n swear_v by_o the_o throne_n he_o upon_o who_o thou_o depende_v for_o thy_o life_n and_o who_o only_o have_v all_o power_n to_o save_v and_o to_o destroy_v so_o that_o the_o general_a reason_n why_o these_o oath_n be_v to_o be_v avoid_v be_v because_o they_o be_v equivalent_a to_o formal_a swear_v by_o the_o creator_n of_o all_o thing_n and_o contrary_a to_o the_o opinion_n of_o the_o pharisee_n bring_v a_o equal_a
