christ_n hang_v it_o upon_o the_o nail_n in_o the_o sure_a place_n and_o if_o any_o of_o you_o have_v any_o trouble_a thought_n or_o contest_v of_o mind_n about_o these_o thing_n i_o beseech_v you_o that_o you_o will_v go_v up_o to_o this_o nail_n that_o be_v fasten_v in_o a_o sure_a place_n for_o that_o vessel_n that_o we_o hang_v any_o where_o else_o it_o shall_v certain_o be_v cut_v down_o and_o the_o nail_n we_o hang_v it_o upon_o will_v certain_o be_v cut_v down_o or_o remove_v for_o the_o lord_n have_v speak_v it_o all_o our_o lamp_n that_o shine_v in_o their_o own_o light_n they_o will_v go_v out_o in_o that_o day_n at_o the_o appearance_n of_o christ_n like_o spark_n that_o we_o compass_v ourselves_o with_o of_o our_o own_o kindle_v all_o that_o do_v so_o shall_v lie_v down_o in_o sorrow_n the_o last_o objection_n be_v but_o how_o shall_v we_o know_v that_o we_o be_v in_o christ_n can_v we_o discern_v it_o any_o otherwise_o than_o by_o the_o mark_n and_o sign_n of_o why_o do_v he_o call_v it_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o son_n but_o to_o show_v that_o it_o be_v the_o witness_n come_v from_o christ_n if_o therefore_o it_o come_v from_o he_o the_o great_a witness_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v that_o we_o be_v in_o christ_n it_o do_v not_o come_v to_o we_o in_o our_o own_o righteousness_n for_o then_o why_o shall_v it_o be_v call_v the_o spirit_n of_o the_o son_n no_o not_o in_o our_o own_o sanctification_n do_v it_o come_v to_o we_o but_o it_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o the_o son_n and_o it_o be_v a_o sure_a testimony_n of_o its_o glorify_v christ_n in_o take_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v christ_n and_o give_v to_o we_o even_o in_o its_o testimony_n you_o may_v say_v this_o may_v deceive_v we_o and_o we_o do_v know_v whether_o it_o be_v the_o spirit_n or_o not_o observe_v what_o the_o apostle_n say_v in_o 1_o john_n 5._o speaking_z of_o the_o witness_n of_o the_o spirit_n latter_a part_n of_o the_o 6_o verse_n and_o the_o witness_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v truth_n why_o do_v he_o say_v the_o witness_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v truth_n but_o to_o meet_v with_o the_o thing_n that_o be_v in_o our_o heart_n that_o we_o be_v ready_a to_o say_v there_o be_v other_o good_a witness_n we_o dare_v not_o believe_v the_o spirit_n alone_o but_o we_o have_v other_o good_a witness_n and_o we_o must_v bring_v they_o in_o and_o if_o they_o say_v so_o too_o than_o we_o may_v believe_v the_o spirit_n or_o else_o not_o now_o the_o apostle_n say_v the_o witness_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v truth_n to_o let_v we_o know_v there_o be_v a_o separate_a single_a witness_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n that_o be_v true_a i_o know_v no_o reason_n at_o all_o that_o we_o shall_v be_v afraid_a to_o affirm_v this_o for_o if_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n dwell_v as_o general_o the_o best_a and_o most_o judicious_a discourser_n of_o these_o thing_n allow_v if_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n dwell_v in_o we_o why_o shall_v it_o be_v strange_a that_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n shall_v whisper_v its_o witness_n in_o this_o way_n and_o the_o apostle_n speak_v of_o this_o very_a witness_n when_o he_o say_v the_o witness_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v true_a but_o then_o in_o the_o second_o place_n i_o do_v acknowledge_v this_o free_o and_o abundant_o that_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n do_v make_v use_n of_o this_o or_o that_o particular_a grace_n or_o holiness_n in_o general_n in_o a_o saint_n of_o christ_n as_o he_o please_v sometime_o he_o witness_v only_o by_o himself_o sometime_o by_o such_o and_o such_o grace_n and_o why_o not_o because_o the_o grace_n themselves_o be_v alone_o able_a to_o bear_v up_o the_o witness_n that_o i_o plain_o deny_v but_o then_o the_o spirit_n witness_v not_o only_o of_o grace_n of_o faith_n of_o repentance_n and_o holiness_n etc._n etc._n but_o as_o they_o be_v in_o christ_n faith_n and_o love_n in_o christ_n jesus_n and_o as_o they_o be_v make_v up_o of_o his_o righteousness_n and_o flow_v from_o his_o death_n resurrection_n and_o intercession_n and_o here_o be_v that_o that_o i_o say_v to_o you_o christ_n take_v any_o grace_n of_o his_o servant_n and_o show_v it_o at_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n not_o as_o it_o be_v out_o of_o himself_o but_o as_o it_o be_v in_o himself_o and_o in_o his_o own_o righteousness_n and_o by_o his_o spirit_n he_o now_o show_v to_o any_o of_o his_o servant_n any_o of_o their_o grace_n but_o not_o as_o out_o of_o christ_n but_o as_o in_o christ_n surround_v make_v up_o fill_v up_o with_o his_o righteousness_n as_o i_o remember_v the_o expression_n in_o the_o book_n of_o exodus_fw-la where_o the_o jewel_n that_o be_v in_o the_o urim_n and_o thummim_n in_o the_o breastplate_n of_o the_o highpriest_n their_o set_n be_v call_v fill_v up_o they_o be_v fill_v up_o christ_n take_v all_o the_o grace_n of_o paul_n and_o of_o peter_n or_o any_o of_o the_o servant_n of_o christ_n and_o if_o they_o have_v not_o be_v set_v in_o the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n if_o i_o do_v acknowledge_v that_o it_o may_v be_v that_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n may_v give_v his_o servant_n a_o witness_n and_o a_o testimony_n from_o their_o own_o grace_n and_o so_o in_o 1_o john_n 4._o 17._o herein_o say_v he_o be_v our_o love_n make_v perfect_a that_o we_o may_v have_v boldness_n in_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n because_o as_o he_o be_v so_o be_v we_o in_o this_o world_n all_o that_o be_v in_o we_o be_v nothing_o all_o that_o god_n or_o his_o spirit_n have_v wrought_v in_o we_o it_o be_v nothing_o if_o you_o can_v take_v it_o out_o of_o christ_n it_o will_v be_v a_o lamp_n put_v out_o in_o obscure_a darkness_n carry_v this_o constant_o upon_o your_o thought_n he_o that_o have_v the_o son_n have_v life_n and_o he_o that_o have_v not_o the_o son_n of_o god_n have_v watch_n for_o you_o know_v not_o the_o time_n yet_o i_o shall_v show_v you_o that_o have_v quite_o another_o sense_n and_o that_o it_o speak_v that_o every_o one_o shall_v look_v that_o they_o have_v of_o it_o that_o it_o represent_v the_o glory_n of_o that_o nuptial_a feast_n that_o wedding_n that_o marriage_n of_o the_o lamb._n and_o i_o have_v already_o open_v the_o several_a preparatory_a particular_n in_o it_o i_o shall_v now_o at_o this_o time_n discourse_n upon_o what_o i_o have_v propose_v the_o bridegroom_n tarry_v and_o so_o i_o shall_v endeavour_v to_o lay_v this_o foundation_n that_o the_o come_n of_o jesus_n christ_n have_v not_o be_v since_o he_o speak_v this_o parable_n neither_o be_v it_o yet_o immediate_o to_o be_v the_o bridegroom_n tarry_v and_o therefore_o herein_o i_o shall_v endeavour_v to_o open_a to_o you_o first_o how_o strange_a it_o be_v according_a to_o scripture-discourse_n that_o the_o come_n of_o christ_n have_v be_v so_o long_o delay_v and_o i_o shall_v answer_v to_o you_o the_o objection_n that_o arise_v from_o it_o against_o the_o truth_n of_o scripture_n concern_v the_o bridegroom_n come_v and_o so_o how_o this_o delay_n and_o many_o scripture_n can_v be_v reconcile_v in_o the_o second_o place_n i_o shall_v give_v you_o the_o two_o great_a reason_n especial_o why_o the_o bridegroom_n be_v come_v be_v delay_v and_o then_o in_o the_o three_o place_n i_o shall_v inquire_v the_o sign_n when_o this_o tarry_n of_o the_o bridegroom_n be_v like_a to_o be_v at_o a_o end_n and_o i_o shall_v endeavour_v so_o to_o discourse_n this_o as_o to_o resolve_v you_o concern_v the_o present_a face_n of_o the_o world_n that_o we_o be_v in_o a_o time_n you_o know_v all_o very_a well_o of_o very_o great_a commotion_n of_o the_o nation_n and_o as_o the_o scripture_n expression_n be_v we_o hear_v of_o war_n and_o rumour_n of_o war_n continual_o and_o you_o know_v god_n have_v both_o in_o other_o nation_n and_o in_o a_o part_n of_o this_o nation_n the_o beyond_o the_o sea_n give_v we_o great_a reason_n to_o consider_v that_o shake_n of_o the_o earth_n that_o be_v so_o dreadful_a in_o a_o part_n of_o our_o nation_n though_o beyond_o the_o sea_n and_o that_o gentle_a admonition_n that_o he_o have_v give_v we_o of_o it_o so_o late_o in_o this_o very_a place_n in_o this_o very_a city_n i_o will_v therefore_o discourse_v that_o point_n to_o you_o how_o far_o we_o may_v look_v upon_o these_o as_o sign_n of_o the_o near_o come_v of_o the_o bridegroom_n and_o then_o i_o shall_v close_v up_o the_o whole_a in_o the_o application_n of_o it_o i_o begin_v with_o the_o first_o and_o that_o be_v to_o discourse_n to_o you_o how_o strange_a it_o may_v seem_v and_o disagreeable_a to_o scripture_n that_o the_o bridegroom_n have_v so_o long_o delay_v his_o come_v and_o i_o shall_v remove_v the_o objecton_n against_o the_o truth_n and_o verity_n of_o scripture_n notwithstanding_o the_o delay_n of_o the_o come_n first_o therefore_o it_o seem_v very_o strange_a that_o such_o a_o evil_a state_n of_o the_o world_n shall_v continue_v beyond_o the_o death_n and_o resurrection_n of_o jesus_n christ_n see_v there_o be_v such_o a_o infinite_a grace_n of_o god_n in_o a_o mediator_n and_o that_o he_o please_v to_o give_v his_o own_o son_n to_o lose_a man_n that_o whoever_o believe_v in_o he_o shall_v not_o perish_v bat_n have_v eternal_a life_n it_o be_v no_o wonder_n we_o may_v be_v ready_a true_o to_o say_v that_o the_o world_n continue_v till_o christ_n come_v till_o he_o die_v and_o rose_n again_o and_o till_o there_o be_v a_o universal_a preach_v of_o the_o gospel_n in_o his_o name_n but_o why_o shall_v it_o last_v any_o long_o so_o great_a a_o thing_n be_v do_v then_o in_o the_o world_n that_o there_o can_v be_v no_o expectation_n of_o such_o another_o and_o therefore_o sure_a there_o be_v nothing_o now_o to_o do_v but_o for_o christ_n to_o have_v a_o kingdom_n as_o great_a and_o as_o large_a and_o as_o glorious_a as_o the_o scripture_n assure_v he_o shall_v have_v for_o as_o i_o have_v note_v to_o you_o and_o i_o desire_v that_o you_o will_v bear_v as_o i_o have_v say_v before_o that_o scripture_n in_o your_o mind_n gal._n 4._o 4._o when_o the_o fullness_n of_o time_n be_v come_v god_n send_v forth_o his_o son_n it_o be_v no_o wonder_n that_o time_n shall_v last_v till_o the_o fullness_n of_o time_n come_v but_o that_o it_o shall_v last_v beyond_o be_v very_o strange_a god_n send_v forth_o his_o son_n make_v of_o a_o woman_n make_v under_o the_o law_n to_o redeem_v they_o that_o be_v under_o the_o law_n that_o we_o may_v receive_v the_o adoption_n of_o child_n and_o god_n have_v send_v forth_o the_o spirit_n of_o his_o son_n to_o all_o those_o that_o be_v his_o child_n to_o cry_v abba_n father_n these_o be_v so_o great_a thing_n that_o till_o this_o fullness_n indeed_o it_o be_v no_o wonder_n at_o all_o that_o god_n bear_v up_o the_o world_n because_o he_o have_v such_o a_o great_a discovery_n of_o his_o love_n and_o of_o his_o grace_n to_o make_v and_o by_o which_o man_n have_v be_v save_v all_o along_o before_o even_o the_o father_n in_o the_o old_a testament_n and_o by_o which_o salvation_n be_v to_o be_v alone_o expect_v and_o receive_v it_o be_v no_o wonder_n therefore_o i_o say_v that_o god_n bear_v up_o the_o world_n to_o that_o fullness_n of_o time_n but_o now_o it_o be_v strange_a that_o it_o shall_v last_v any_o long_a than_o that_o it_o be_v wonder_n there_o have_v not_o be_v a_o kingdom_n of_o redemption_n and_o of_o glory_n ever_o since_o but_o now_o to_o answer_v you_o in_o that_o particular_a and_o by_o a_o place_n of_o scripture_n as_o notable_a as_o this_o fullness_n of_o time_n be_v there_o be_v another_o far_o great_a appearance_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o redemption_n of_o christ_n for_o you_o know_v all_o that_o be_v in_o humiliation_n it_o be_v in_o a_o incognito-state_n in_o a_o disguise_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n humble_v himself_o into_o the_o form_n of_o a_o servant_n and_o to_o death_n the_o death_n of_o the_o cross_n but_o all_o this_o be_v to_o appear_v in_o glory_n and_o as_o there_o be_v a_o fullness_n of_o time_n for_o that_o first_o manifestation_n of_o christ_n so_o there_o be_v ephes_n 1._o 10._o a_o dispensation_n of_o the_o fullness_n of_o time_n not_o only_o of_o time_n but_o of_o time_n or_o of_o all_o time_n that_o he_o may_v gather_v together_o in_o one_o all_o thing_n in_o christ_n both_o which_o be_v in_o heaven_n and_o which_o be_v in_o earth_n even_o in_o he_o till_o that_o date_n be_v come_v the_o kingdom_n of_o christ_n can_v be_v let_v i_o therefore_o desire_v of_o you_o that_o you_o will_v keep_v these_o two_o place_n of_o scripture_n always_o in_o your_o thought_n with_o relation_n to_o the_o first_o come_v of_o christ_n and_o with_o relation_n to_o his_o second_o glorious_a come_v and_o appearance_n there_o be_v the_o fullness_n of_o time_n and_o
to_o appear_v we_o be_v not_o therefore_o on_o this_o account_n so_o sensible_a as_o we_o ought_v to_o be_v how_o great_a a_o thing_n it_o be_v to_o die_v we_o know_v it_o be_v a_o common_a thing_n appoint_v to_o all_o once_o to_o dye_n and_o it_o be_v no_o disgrace_n to_o die_v the_o common_a death_n of_o man_n because_o all_o dye_n and_o some_o sense_n man_n have_v of_o a_o private_a judgement_n at_o that_o time_n but_o to_o consider_v thus_o we_o must_v rise_v and_o appear_v as_o we_o dye_v oh_o how_o shall_v it_o oblige_v we_o to_o watch_n to_o get_v into_o jesus_n christ_n to_o be_v find_v in_o he_o justify_v by_o his_o blood_n sanctify_v by_o his_o spirit_n full_a of_o faith_n repentance_n every_o grace_n to_o die_v and_o sleep_v in_o and_o by_o jesus_n that_o we_o may_v so_o rise_v and_o appear_v come_v with_o he_o this_o be_v indeed_o the_o know_v so_o as_o that_o that_o day_n shall_v not_o take_v we_o at_o unaware_o and_o unready_a as_o have_v not_o oil_n in_o present_a delay_n that_o the_o parable_n speak_v of_o under_o that_o spiritual_a slumber_n of_o the_o church_n of_o christ_n have_v run_v along_o with_o the_o time_n since_o the_o
but_o only_o this_o i_o be_o clear_o sensible_a of_o that_o the_o general_n character_n of_o the_o church_n of_o sardis_n be_v fall_v upon_o all_o the_o protestant_a church_n and_o upon_o all_o protestant_a person_n as_o david_n say_v in_o another_o case_n there_o be_v no_o one_o that_o do_v not_o slumber_v i_o may_v say_v no_v not_o one_o though_o there_o be_v some_o christian_n more_o lively_a and_o more_o wakeful_a and_o more_o apprehensive_a than_o other_o yet_o there_o be_v none_o but_o slumber_n for_o the_o general_n character_n of_o any_o church_n it_o fall_v upon_o to_o take_v notice_n that_o the_o discourse_n of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o christ_n be_v not_o as_o if_o some_o sensual_a or_o worldly_a glory_n be_v to_o be_v bring_v in_o or_o that_o man_n be_v to_o be_v please_v with_o that_o for_o the_o thing_n that_o i_o expect_v when_o the_o kingdom_n of_o this_o world_n shall_v be_v proclaim_v to_o be_v the_o kingdom_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o of_o his_o christ_n be_v quite_o of_o another_o nature_n that_o whoever_o of_o we_o be_v alive_a at_o that_o day_n whether_o i_o or_o you_o or_o any_o of_o we_o that_o true_o love_v and_o fear_v he_o and_o love_v the_o glory_n of_o his_o kingdom_n i_o make_v no_o doubt_n but_o the_o glory_n and_o power_n of_o christianity_n shall_v sprout_v out_o afresh_o upon_o they_o as_o the_o psalmist_n say_v then_o the_o lord_n awake_v as_o one_o out_o of_o sleep_n and_o like_o a_o mighty_a man_n that_o shout_v by_o reason_n of_o wine_n psal_n 78._o 65_o 66._o and_o he_o smite_v his_o enemy_n in_o the_o hinder_a part_n he_o put_v they_o to_o a_o perpetual_a reproach_n so_o we_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o smite_v the_o lust_n and_o corruption_n and_o the_o power_n of_o temptation_n that_o now_o so_o prevail_v upon_o we_o we_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o chase_v they_o and_o to_o put_v they_o to_o flight_n and_o to_o drive_v they_o before_o we_o we_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o love_n god_n and_o christ_n and_o take_v off_o of_o christianity_n it_o shall_v be_v much_o otherwise_o in_o the_o second_o place_n when_o the_o slumber_n of_o christianity_n be_v take_v off_o we_o shall_v see_v much_o clear_a scripture-truths_n and_o in_o the_o salvation_n and_o redemption_n of_o christ_n all_o the_o dispute_n and_o anger_n about_o these_o thing_n will_v go_v off_o for_o the_o clearness_n of_o thing_n will_v be_v see_v and_o then_o that_o dispute_v that_o be_v upon_o we_o now_o concern_v the_o kingdom_n of_o christ_n some_o be_v utter_a enemy_n to_o such_o discourse_n of_o it_o even_o good_a person_n and_o some_o be_v ready_a to_o scorn_v and_o laugh_v it_o out_o of_o countenance_n and_o few_o there_o be_v that_o believe_v it_o and_o be_v in_o the_o truth_n of_o it_o what_o be_v the_o reason_n of_o this_o but_o because_o these_o scripture_n be_v not_o so_o clear_v and_o so_o very_o many_o excellent_a and_o eminent_a servant_n of_o god_n they_o be_v afriad_v to_o discourse_n of_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n and_o the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n without_o work_n lest_o it_o shall_v make_v man_n loose_a and_o make_v man_n licentious_a and_o therefore_o they_o be_v streightning_n and_o curb_v and_o glance_v all_o they_o can_v against_o such_o discourse_n as_o these_o be_v the_o reason_n be_v because_o the_o spirit_n of_o slumber_n be_v so_o much_o upon_o christian_n isaiah_n 29._o the_o lord_n have_v pour_v upon_o you_o the_o spirit_n of_o deep_a sleep_n and_o have_v close_v your_o eye_n the_o prophet_n and_o your_o ruler_n the_o seer_n have_v he_o cover_v and_o the_o vision_n of_o all_o be_v become_v unto_o you_o as_o the_o word_n of_o a_o book_n that_o be_v seal_v which_o man_n deliver_v to_o one_o that_o be_v learned_a say_v read_v this_o i_o pray_v thou_o and_o he_o say_v i_o can_v for_o it_o be_v seal_v and_o the_o book_n be_v deliver_v to_o one_o that_o be_v not_o learned_a say_v read_v this_o i_o pray_v thou_o and_o he_o say_v i_o be_o not_o learned_a now_o this_o spirit_n of_o deep_a sleep_n i_o hope_v be_v take_v off_o from_o we_o by_o the_o reformation_n and_o by_o the_o clearness_n of_o the_o gospel_n in_o that_o manner_n that_o we_o enjoy_v it_o in_o the_o main_a now_o in_o the_o protestant_a profession_n but_o there_o be_v a_o slumber_n still_o remain_v or_o else_o man_n will_v hear_v and_o learn_v with_o far_o great_a ease_n and_o in_o another_o manner_n discourse_n with_o one_o another_o it_o will_v be_v wonderful_a when_o the_o tongue_n of_o the_o dumb_a shall_v sing_v as_o it_o be_v say_v in_o the_o prophet_n i_o be_o very_o persuade_v that_o those_o that_o say_v least_o in_o religion_n now_o there_o will_v be_v such_o a_o change_n in_o they_o by_o take_v off_o the_o spirit_n of_o slumber_n that_o the_o have_v of_o the_o world_n shall_v go_v off_o if_o you_o will_v say_v this_o be_v only_o a_o sort_n of_o level_a doctrine_n or_o discourse_n i_o do_v not_o intend_v it_o shall_v move_v any_o one_o as_o for_o the_o present_a but_o only_o to_o a_o expectation_n and_o to_o take_v off_o our_o heart_n from_o the_o present_a evil_a world_n and_o i_o only_o desire_v to_o tell_v you_o what_o shall_v be_v when_o you_o shall_v see_v such_o a_o glory_n and_o light_n of_o this_o world_n to_o come_v appear_v and_o shine_v out_o i_o do_v but_o desire_v that_o you_o will_v remember_v what_o have_v be_v to_o this_o that_o we_o be_v not_o fool_n therein_o and_o therefore_o i_o will_v set_v out_o to_o you_o in_o several_a particular_n according_a to_o the_o wisdom_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n in_o this_o parable_n i_o will_v show_v you_o the_o danger_n of_o be_v a_o foolish_a virgin_n and_o in_o what_o kind_n of_o circumstance_n they_o shall_v rise_v and_o how_o it_o shall_v be_v with_o they_o as_o it_o be_v from_o first_o to_o last_o as_o our_o lord_n have_v here_o give_v to_o we_o and_o yet_o i_o will_v do_v it_o with_o brevity_n for_o the_o thing_n will_v be_v very_o plain_a and_o if_o certain_a to_o take_v that_o along_o with_o i_o for_o all_o the_o virgin_n arise_v and_o trim_v their_o lamp_n the_o wise_a indeed_o have_v right_o to_o do_v it_o and_o they_o do_v it_o upon_o good_a ground_n and_o the_o foolish_a do_v the_o very_a same_o thing_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v significant_o express_v in_o the_o text_n all_o those_o virgin_n not_o only_o wise_a but_o foolish_a they_o here_o be_v our_o great_a point_n to_o look_v to_o this_o that_o we_o have_v not_o only_o the_o lamp_n of_o profession_n but_o that_o we_o have_v the_o truth_n and_o sincerity_n of_o faith_n and_o repentance_n of_o holiness_n of_o a_o interest_n in_o christ_n and_o in_o his_o blood_n i_o will_v give_v you_o two_o scripture_n to_o this_o case_n one_o on_o the_o side_n of_o the_o wise_a virgin_n and_o one_o on_o the_o side_n of_o the_o foolish_a virgin_n and_o so_o pass_v on_o and_o i_o will_v desire_v you_o will_v take_v notice_n of_o these_o scripture_n that_o may_v be_v helpful_a to_o bring_v these_o thing_n to_o your_o mind_n that_o all_o of_o we_o may_v enter_v into_o deep_a reflection_n and_o serious_a examination_n upon_o it_o in_o the_o 1_o pet._n 1._o 22._o say_v the_o apostle_n speak_v of_o these_o thing_n see_v you_o have_v purify_v your_o soul_n in_o obey_v the_o truth_n through_o the_o spirit_n unto_o unfeigned_a love_n of_o the_o brethren_n etc._n etc._n be_v bear_v again_o not_o of_o corruptible_a seed_n but_o of_o incorruptible_a by_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o now_o observe_v how_o he_o have_v discourse_v of_o this_o point_n before_o ver_fw-la 17._o whether_o it_o be_v true_a and_o right_a faith_n or_o not_o and_o it_o will_v be_v try_v in_o a_o moment_n and_o instant_o because_o a_o short_a work_n will_v the_o lord_n make_v upon_o the_o earth_n for_o as_o i_o tell_v you_o it_o will_v appear_v present_o by_o the_o thought_n we_o have_v about_o we_o by_o the_o company_n we_o come_v with_o by_o the_o body_n we_o have_v on_o and_o this_o will_v be_v in_o the_o face_n of_o the_o fire_n you_o must_v come_v and_o if_o it_o be_v only_o a_o drossy-faith_n it_o will_v stand_v the_o fire_n it_o will_v be_v able_a to_o endure_v if_o it_o be_v only_o have_v eat_v and_o drink_v in_o thy_o presence_n and_o thou_o have_v teach_v in_o our_o street_n they_o shall_v begin_v to_o say_v when_o they_o find_v the_o door_n shut_v upon_o they_o they_o shall_v virgin_n do_v in_o all_o their_o duty_n of_o all_o that_o they_o have_v say_v for_o god_n or_o any_o good_a work_n but_o if_o the_o power_n of_o these_o thing_n have_v not_o be_v it_o will_v not_o be_v able_a to_o carry_v any_o out_o though_o we_o shall_v endeavour_v to_o make_v the_o best_a of_o our_o profession_n that_o be_v the_o first_o description_n of_o the_o state_n of_o the_o foolish_a virgin_n when_o they_o arise_v 2._o i_o come_v to_o the_o second_o thing_n that_o our_o lord_n here_o mention_n and_o that_o be_v they_o shall_v present_o be_v sensible_a pray_v observe_v that_o that_o their_o grace_n do_v not_o hold_v out_o that_o they_o be_v but_o counterfeit_n that_o they_o be_v but_o dross_n that_o they_o be_v but_o tinsel_n for_o present_o they_o say_v they_o want_v love_v to_o speak_v or_o to_o be_v a_o member_n of_o such_o a_o church_n as_o other_o speak_v i_o say_v these_o thing_n will_v do_v we_o no_o good_a if_o we_o have_v not_o the_o power_n and_o life_n when_o such_o foppery_n and_o foolery_n have_v take_v place_n upon_o multitude_n of_o this_o nation_n but_o bless_v be_v god_n it_o be_v not_o so_o now_o though_o there_o be_v multitude_n of_o person_n that_o will_v have_v go_v upon_o the_o faith_n and_o holiness_n and_o the_o charity_n even_o by_o way_n of_o judgement_n and_o opinion_n of_o such_o a_o saint_n heretofore_o but_o i_o think_v it_o not_o worth_a the_o spend_v much_o time_n on_o the_o opinion_n but_o on_o the_o mistake_n of_o professor_n now_o i_o go_v on_o to_o the_o next_o particular_a and_o that_o be_v they_o go_v to_o buy_v what_o be_v the_o meaning_n of_o this_o but_o only_o this_o their_o vehemency_n if_o it_o be_v possible_a for_o they_o to_o mend_v their_o faith_n to_o mend_v their_o repentance_n at_o that_o time_n it_o be_v a_o shadow_n of_o this_o o_o that_o it_o be_v possible_a now_o that_o instead_o of_o the_o false_a faith_n i_o have_v i_o may_v have_v a_o true_a faith_n i_o will_v have_v a_o true_a repentance_n upon_o any_o term_n whatsoever_o o_o the_o cry_n that_o foolish_a virgin_n will_v make_v when_o they_o have_v have_v opportunity_n and_o lose_v their_o opportunity_n while_o they_o go_v mercy_n he_o save_v we_o by_o the_o wash_n of_o regeneration_n and_o renew_v of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n and_o here_o the_o wise_a virgin_n reach_v out_o themselves_o to_o be_v find_v in_o christ_n and_o only_o in_o he_o but_o the_o foolish_a virgin_n fall_v short_a here_o 3._o three_o we_o can_v do_v nothing_o but_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n our_o only_a hope_n be_v in_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o lord_n our_o god_n and_o therefore_o the_o foolish_a virgin_n be_v mistake_v that_o they_o do_v all_o in_o their_o own_o strength_n and_o power_n they_o trust_v in_o their_o own_o beauty_n wisdom_n because_o i_o have_v not_o something_o that_o i_o be_o not_o able_a to_o apprehend_v or_o to_o be_v sensible_a of_o now_o therefore_o i_o will_v satisfy_v you_o in_o this_o because_o you_o may_v think_v in_o all_o religion_n there_o lie_v a_o discouragement_n upon_o we_o if_o thing_n be_v thus_o therefore_o i_o will_v answer_v you_o in_o two_o thing_n very_o brief_o first_o let_v no_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o straiten_v it_o or_o to_o lessen_v it_o i_o say_v i_o be_o sure_a of_o this_o there_o shall_v not_o be_v one_o honest_a man_n in_o the_o world_n less_o because_o christ_n preach_v to_o that_o young_a man_n that_o have_v keep_v all_o the_o commandment_n from_o his_o youth_n thou_o be_v yet_o under_o a_o great_a difficulty_n as_o to_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n a_o man_n may_v have_v take_v the_o advantage_n of_o that_o discourse_n of_o christ_n with_o this_o young_a man_n and_o have_v make_v a_o clamour_n and_o noise_n of_o it_o and_o say_v here_o be_v one_o that_o despise_v and_o discourage_v a_o good_a young_a man_n for_o he_o say_v how_o hardly_o shall_v such_o a_o young_a man_n that_o have_v keep_v all_o the_o command_v from_o his_o youth_n enter_v into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n but_o christ_n know_v very_o well_o that_o he_o shall_v not_o hinder_v or_o lessen_v or_o straiten_v moral_a honesty_n or_o goodness_n in_o the_o world_n by_o what_o he_o say_v for_o he_o know_v all_o these_o thing_n be_v in_o god_n and_o from_o god_n and_o there_o shall_v not_o one_o hair_n from_o the_o head_n of_o morality_n as_o i_o may_v so_o speak_v fall_v to_o the_o ground_n because_o of_o any_o thing_n that_o can_v be_v say_v for_o there_o be_v a_o common_a grace_n of_o morality_n and_o honesty_n give_v out_o from_o god_n and_o christ_n and_o whosoever_o he_o think_v fit_a to_o receive_v it_o they_o shall_v receive_v it_o and_o must_v receive_v it_o and_o they_o shall_v be_v under_o the_o power_n of_o it_o and_o live_v suitable_o to_o it_o and_o so_o for_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n there_o shall_v no_o one_o be_v hinder_v of_o his_o graee_n let_v man_n have_v as_o many_o conception_n as_o they_o can_v have_v of_o thing_n and_o however_o discourage_v if_o his_o truth_n be_v due_o speak_v and_o in_o the_o season_n therefore_o doubt_n think_v that_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o truth_n of_o scripture_n can_v do_v any_o hurt_n for_o god_n be_v always_o present_a breathe_v in_o the_o word_n both_o with_o a_o spirit_n of_o morality_n and_o common_a gift_n of_o righteousness_n and_o also_o with_o a_o spirit_n of_o grace_n and_o none_o shall_v be_v ever_o able_a to_o straighten_v his_o spirit_n in_o any_o of_o the_o effect_n of_o it_o and_o the_o truth_n of_o god_n speak_v according_a to_o his_o word_n shall_v be_v subordinate_v to_o it_o in_o the_o second_o place_n i_o do_v always_o acknowledge_v and_o declare_v with_o great_a freedom_n and_o sincerity_n that_o this_o be_v the_o only_a way_n of_o preach_v the_o gospel_n to_o those_o that_o have_v use_v themselves_o to_o a_o common_a and_o formal_a way_n of_o prayer_n will_v be_v ready_a to_o stretch_v out_o themselves_o to_o a_o high_a way_n wherefore_o let_v we_o endeavour_v after_o this_o to_o pray_v continual_o as_o if_o christ_n be_v come_v that_o we_o may_v be_v deliver_v from_o the_o gild_n of_o sin_n that_o we_o may_v be_v deliver_v from_o all_o our_o corruption_n that_o we_o may_v be_v in_o robe_n wash_v white_a in_o his_o blood_n that_o we_o may_v be_v in_o the_o wedding_n garment_n that_o we_o may_v have_v every_o thing_n suit_v to_o the_o glory_n of_o his_o come_v and_o appearance_n so_o you_o shall_v find_v our_o saviour_n direct_v his_o disciple_n upon_o this_o very_a account_n luke_n 21._o watch_v you_o therefore_o say_v he_o and_o will_v come_v because_o of_o the_o wedding_n that_o when_o he_o come_v and_o knock_v they_o may_v open_v unto_o he_o immediate_o we_o shall_v take_v great_a care_n of_o the_o state_n of_o our_o make_v out_o there_o ought_v therefore_o to_o be_v a_o holy_a violence_n upon_o every_o one_o preparation_n by_o earnest_a prayer_n and_o supplication_n for_o that_o day_n we_o ought_v every_o one_o to_o pray_v as_o if_o just_a that_o very_a day_n be_v upon_o he_o we_o shall_v pray_v with_o the_o same_o earnestness_n as_o if_o that_o day_n be_v even_o now_o upon_o we_o this_o therefore_o be_v
