the_o natural_a reason_n whereupon_o he_o entertain_v the_o belief_n of_o a_o god_n or_o of_o the_o immortality_n of_o the_o soul_n uncertain_a that_o will_v weaken_v the_o credibility_n of_o those_o as_o weaken_v the_o credibility_n of_o the_o mention_a article_n of_o faith_n than_o the_o place_n of_o your_o lordship_n dwelling_n be_v a_o necessary_a cause_n of_o wrong_n quote_v i_o shall_v not_o here_o go_v about_o to_o trouble_v your_o lordship_n with_o divine_a again_o what_o may_v be_v your_o lordship_n precise_a mean_v in_o several_a of_o the_o proposition_n contain_v in_o the_o passage_n above_o set_v down_o especial_o that_o remarkable_o ambiguous_a and_o to_o i_o obscure_v one_o viz._n there_o must_v be_v a_o certainty_n as_o to_o sense_n and_o tradition_n i_o fear_v i_o have_v waste_v too_o much_o of_o your_o lordship_n and_o my_o reader_n be_v time_n in_o that_o employment_n already_o and_o there_o will_v be_v no_o end_n if_o i_o shall_v endeavour_v to_o explain_v whatever_o i_o be_o at_o a_o loss_n about_o the_o determine_a sense_n of_o in_o any_o of_o your_o lordship_n expression_n only_o i_o will_v crave_v leave_n to_o beg_v my_o reader_n to_o observe_v that_o in_o this_o first_o head_n 27-31_a which_o we_o be_v upon_o your_o lordship_n have_v use_v the_o term_n certain_a and_o certainty_n near_o twenty_o time_n but_o without_o determine_v in_o any_o of_o they_o whether_o you_o mean_v knowledge_n or_o the_o full_a assurance_n of_o faith_n or_o any_o degree_n of_o believe_v though_o it_o be_v evident_a that_o in_o these_o page_n your_o lordship_n use_v certainty_n for_o all_o these_o three_o which_o ambiguous_a use_n of_o the_o main_a word_n in_o that_o discourse_n can_v but_o render_v your_o lordship_n sense_n clear_a and_o perspicuous_a and_o your_o argument_n very_o cogent_a and_o no_o doubt_n will_v do_v so_o to_o any_o one_o who_o will_v be_v but_o at_o the_o pain_n to_o reduce_v that_o one_o word_n to_o a_o clear_a determine_a sense_n all_o through_o these_o few_o paragraph_n your_o lordship_n say_v 23._o have_v not_o all_o mankind_n who_o have_v talk_v of_o matter_n of_o faith_n allow_v a_o certainty_n of_o faith_n as_o well_o as_o a_o certainty_n of_o knowledge_n answ._n but_o do_v ever_o any_o one_o of_o all_o that_o mankind_n allow_v it_o as_o a_o tolerable_a way_n of_o speak_v that_o believe_v in_o general_n for_o which_o your_o lordship_n have_v use_v it_o which_o contain_v in_o it_o the_o low_a degree_n of_o faith_n shall_v be_v call_v certainty_n can_v he_o who_o say_v i_o believe_v lord_n help_v my_o unbelief_n or_o any_o one_o who_o be_v weak_a in_o faith_n or_o of_o little_a faith_n be_v proper_o be_v say_v to_o be_v certain_a or_o de_fw-fr dubio_fw-la certus_fw-la of_o what_o he_o believe_v but_o with_o a_o weak_a degree_n of_o assent_n i_o shall_v not_o question_v what_o your_o lordship_n be_v great_a learning_n may_v authorize_v but_o i_o imagine_v every_o one_o have_v not_o skill_n or_o will_v not_o assume_v the_o liberty_n to_o speak_v so_o if_o a_o witness_n before_o a_o judge_n ask_v upon_o his_o oath_n whether_o he_o be_v certain_a of_o such_o a_o thing_n shall_v answer_v own_o dulness_n and_o own_o my_o unfitness_n to_o deal_v with_o so_o learned_a a_o adversary_n as_o your_o lordship_n in_o controversy_n for_o i_o know_v not_o how_o to_o answer_v but_o to_o a_o proposition_n of_o a_o determine_a sense_n whilst_o it_o be_v vague_n and_o uncertain_a in_o a_o general_n or_o equivocal_a use_n of_o any_o of_o the_o term_n i_o can_v tell_v what_o to_o say_v to_o scripture_n call_v it_o be_v what_o i_o guess_v in_o another_o will_v make_v your_o lordship_n ask_v again_o be_v this_o fair_a and_o ingenuous_a deal_n my_o lord_n my_o bible_n express_v 22._o the_o high_a degree_n of_o faith_n which_o the_o apostle_n recommend_v to_o believer_n in_o his_o time_n by_o full_a assurance_n but_o assurance_n of_o faith_n though_o it_o be_v what_o assurance_n soever_o will_v by_o no_o mean_n down_o with_o your_o lordship_n in_o my_o writing_n you_o say_v 26._o i_o allow_v assurance_n of_o faith_n god_n forbid_v i_o shall_v do_v otherwise_o but_o than_o you_o ask_v why_o not_o certainty_n as_o well_o as_o assurance_n my_o lord_n i_o think_v it_o may_v be_v a_o reason_n not_o misbecome_v a_o poor_a layman_n and_o such_o as_o he_o may_v presume_v will_v satisfy_v
