elect_a of_o god_n by_o the_o virtue_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o christ_n that_o none_o of_o they_o can_v be_v do_v in_o any_o man_n unless_o he_o have_v christian_a faith_n this_o be_v a_o great_a point_n of_o wisdom_n in_o man_n to_o know_v from_o whence_o these_o gift_n do_v come_v this_o consideration_n do_v admonish_v we_o that_o they_o which_o do_v lack_v true_a faith_n must_v cry_v unto_o he_o who_o do_v only_o work_v the_o same_o in_o our_o heart_n by_o the_o operation_n of_o his_o holy_a spirit_n body_n faith_n be_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n and_o we_o do_v receive_v it_o into_o the_o the_o sun_n moon_n light_n day_n night_n air_n summer_n and_o winter_n etc._n etc._n and_o some_o thing_n the_o attain_v by_o the_o mean_n of_o man_n ministry_n and_o industry_n as_o a_o secondary_a mean_n as_o the_o body_n the_o nutriment_n of_o the_o body_n corn_n bread_n wine_n clothes_z and_o such_o other_o like_a yea_o civil_a government_n public_a quiet_n by_o true_a justice_n in_o the_o magistrate_n art_n science_n tongue_n usage_n and_o experience_n of_o thing_n again_o some_o thing_n be_v so_o give_v of_o god_n that_o he_o which_o receive_v they_o do_v not_o perceive_v that_o he_o receive_v they_o as_o when_o the_o soul_n be_v join_v to_o the_o body_n and_o life_n put_v into_o it_o and_o some_o thing_n be_v receive_v with_o perceivance_n of_o man_n understanding_n as_o those_o thing_n be_v which_o be_v give_v to_o man_n of_o ripe_a and_o good_a year_n and_o they_o may_v be_v perceive_v either_o in_o body_n as_o corporal_a gift_n either_o in_o spirit_n as_o spiritual_a gift_n measure_n whether_o faith_n be_v give_v without_o measure_n consequent_o we_o must_v consider_v also_o that_o all_o and_o singular_a gift_n of_o god_n as_o well_o corporal_a as_o spiritual_a both_o cause_v and_o continue_v in_o we_o by_o the_o secret_a power_n of_o god_n ourselves_o be_v mere_o passive_a and_o move_v to_o divine_a exercise_n by_o the_o only_a direction_n of_o the_o holy_a be_v faithful_a and_o that_o our_o faith_n be_v more_o than_o a_o common_a or_o a_o general_a historical_a faith_n even_o a_o live_n and_o a_o save_a faith_n which_o be_v and_o must_v be_v the_o only_a mean_n of_o our_o apprehend_v christ_n who_o be_v the_o all-sufficient_a and_o only_a matter_n of_o our_o justification_n and_o let_v this_o be_v the_o only_a glory_n and_o pride_n of_o our_o well-doing_n that_o this_o witness_n of_o work_n shall_v gain_v we_o the_o reputation_n of_o god_n servant_n and_o that_o god_n faithful_a child_n here_o on_o earth_n shall_v esteem_v and_o repute_v we_o to_o be_v of_o their_o fellow-brethren_n than_o which_o let_v we_o never_o desire_v a_o great_a cause_n of_o boast_v and_o this_o judgement_n of_o good_a man_n must_v needs_o rise_v from_o the_o testimony_n of_o good_a work_n because_o there_o be_v a_o inevitable_a necessity_n of_o consequence_n and_o necessary_a dependence_n between_o faith_n and_o work_v they_o be_v as_o inseparable_a as_o the_o heat_n from_o the_o fire_n and_o as_o necessary_o depend_v as_o the_o body_n and_o the_o soul_n let_v this_o provoke_v we_o to_o a_o zealous_a forwardness_n of_o all_o godly_a action_n because_o thereby_o we_o shall_v conclude_v the_o assurance_n of_o our_o justify_v faith_n and_o thereby_o satisfy_v the_o desire_n of_o our_o own_o soul_n and_o that_o doubt_v which_o otherwise_o may_v just_o be_v have_v of_o we_o in_o the_o common_a opinion_n of_o man_n from_o this_o argument_n must_v needs_o follow_v this_o conclusion_n that_o see_v we_o have_v the_o fruit_n of_o faith_n note_n note_n good_a work_n therefore_o we_o have_v also_o the_o cause_n of_o work_n true_a faith_n and_o that_o therefore_o this_o faith_n thus_o work_v be_v a_o tree_n of_o god_n own_o plant_n this_o be_v that_o use_n this_o be_v that_o comfort_n and_o consolation_n which_o we_o shall_v understand_v and_o find_v in_o the_o nature_n of_o our_o best_a deserve_a work_n thus_o let_v we_o esteem_v they_o and_o but_o thus_o let_v we_o therefore_o avoid_v and_o abolish_v that_o dangerous_a opinion_n of_o merit_v by_o work_n because_o it_o be_v far_o better_a to_o want_v honour_n then_o to_o force_v it_o from_o god_n by_o violence_n nay_o let_v we_o rather_o disgrace_v ourselves_o then_o to_o dis-inable_a our_o saviour_n jesus_n christ_n for_o if_o righteousness_n be_v from_o ourselves_o it_o be_v not_o only_o from_o he_o and_o then_o will_v follow_v that_o absurd_a and_o blasphemous_a conclusion_n that_o he_o be_v not_o the_o only_a saviour_n neither_o have_v perfect_v the_o work_n of_o man_n salvation_n let_v we_o therefore_o do_v all_o the_o good_a we_o can_v note_n note_n but_o let_v we_o repute_v our_o deed_n though_o never_o so_o good_a to_o be_v the_o effect_n and_o not_o the_o cause_n of_o goodness_n in_o we_o let_v we_o also_o confident_o hold_v that_o nothing_o be_v able_a to_o merit_v salvation_n but_o only_o the_o righteousness_n of_o jesus_n christ_n let_v we_o therefore_o utter_o disclaim_v ourselves_o and_o our_o own_o power_n which_o be_v nothing_o but_o weakness_n and_o whole_o ascribe_v all_o virtue_n and_o all_o power_n to_o our_o saviour_n christ_n for_o it_o be_v safe_a to_o give_v he_o honour_n then_o to_o take_v it_o from_o he_o and_o it_o will_v far_o better_o become_v our_o christian_a modesty_n to_o acknowledge_v our_o weakness_n and_o
