saviour_n not_o simple_o to_o know_v that_o he_o die_v for_o sinner_n but_o for_o i_o the_o chief_a of_o all_o sinner_n not_o simple_o to_o know_v that_o there_o be_v a_o eternal_a life_n but_o to_o know_v that_o there_o be_v eternal_a life_n lay_v up_o for_o i_o so_o that_o we_o see_v that_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o for_o a_o christian_n to_o know_v the_o history_n of_o the_o bible_n that_o jesus_n christ_n be_v the_o saviour_n of_o the_o world_n and_o die_v for_o those_o which_o believe_v in_o he_o for_o this_o knowledge_n the_o devil_n himself_o have_v he_o know_v and_o do_v acknowledge_v jesus_n christ_n to_o be_v the_o saviour_n of_o the_o world_n but_o we_o must_v labour_v for_o this_o particular_a knowledge_n this_o certain_a and_o experimental_a knowledge_n so_o as_o we_o can_v say_v in_o truth_n of_o heart_n note_n note_n i_o believe_v and_o know_v that_o jesus_n christ_n be_v not_o only_o the_o saviour_n of_o the_o world_n but_o my_o saviour_n not_o only_o that_o he_o die_v for_o they_o which_o believe_v in_o he_o but_o that_o he_o die_v for_o i_o and_o shed_v his_o blood_n to_o save_v my_o soul_n and_o though_o this_o be_v true_a that_o though_o but_o one_o man_n or_o woman_n in_o the_o whole_a world_n shall_v be_v save_v yet_o we_o ought_v to_o have_v this_o certain_a knowledge_n to_o believe_v i_o be_o the_o man_n i_o be_o the_o woman_n and_o they_o which_o have_v this_o certain_a and_o unfalilble_a knowledge_n they_o be_v in_o the_o right_a way_n to_o eternal_a life_n but_o they_o which_o have_v only_o a_o general_n and_o confuse_a knowledge_n swim_v in_o the_o brain_n alas_o they_o abide_v in_o death_n the_o three_o special_a thing_n which_o we_o must_v know_v be_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n us._n how_o god_n the_o holy_a ghost_n be_v to_o be_v know_v of_o us._n when_o as_o we_o can_v find_v and_o feel_v the_o work_n of_o god_n spirit_n within_o we_o when_o we_o acknowledge_v he_o to_o be_v the_o author_n and_o sole_a worker_n of_o this_o knowledge_n when_o we_o can_v know_v by_o experience_n in_o our_o own_o self_n in_o our_o soul_n and_o conscience_n that_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n be_v in_o we_o 13.5_o gal._n 2_o 20._o 2._o cor._n 13.5_o that_o we_o can_v say_v with_o the_o apostle_n christ_n live_v in_o i_o and_o that_o he_o do_v make_v we_o with_o boldness_n to_o call_v upon_o god_n and_o to_o want_v this_o knowledge_n seem_v they_o never_o so_o excellent_a nor_o think_v they_o never_o so_o well_o of_o themselves_o they_o be_v but_o miserable_a and_o curse_a and_o abide_v in_o eternal_a death_n and_o damnation_n doct._n have_v thus_o at_o large_a show_v what_o be_v that_o knowledge_n here_o speak_v of_o dangerous_a ignorance_n of_o god_n and_o his_o word_n in_o matter_n of_o religion_n be_v dangerous_a and_o also_o the_o excellent_a fruit_n &_o effect_n that_o come_v from_o it_o and_o what_o it_o be_v that_o we_o must_v know_v as_o also_o what_o great_a profit_n this_o a_o affect_a ignorance_n for_o by_o the_o mercy_n of_o our_o god_n we_o live_v now_o in_o such_o time_n as_o knowledge_n be_v even_o thrust_v upon_o man_n both_o by_o public_a authority_n and_o the_o restless_a labour_n of_o god_n faithful_a minister_n 4._o 2._o cor._n 4._o so_o that_o we_o may_v conclude_v with_o the_o apostle_n if_o the_o gospel_n be_v hide_v it_o be_v hide_v to_o they_o that_o perish_v who_o the_o prince_n of_o this_o world_n have_v blind_v their_o mind_n yet_o notwithstanding_o that_o man_n shall_v want_v these_o mean_n of_o knowledge_n yet_o will_v not_o their_o will_v this_o oh_o it_o be_v the_o sin_n of_o thousand_o in_o the_o world_n at_o this_o day_n that_o out_o of_o negligence_n and_o carelessness_n neglect_v the_o mean_n of_o knowledge_n offer_v unto_o they_o 4._o 2._o cor._n 4._o oh_o what_o a_o fearful_a sin_n be_v this_o consider_v that_o if_o the_o gospel_n be_v hide_v it_o be_v hide_v to_o they_o that_o perish_v and_o that_o christ_n jesus_n may_v be_v have_v by_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n or_o such_o as_o may_v be_v gather_v by_o the_o sight_n of_o creature_n but_o will_v some_o say_v be_v there_o any_o such_o among_o christian_n undoubted_o there_o be_v who_o have_v live_v in_o the_o bosom_n of_o the_o church_n and_o in_o the_o clear_a light_n of_o the_o gospel_n ten_o twenty_o yea_o thirty_o or_o more_o year_n together_o and_o yet_o to_o their_o shame_n be_v it_o speak_v have_v no_o more_o true_a save_a knowledge_n of_o god_n than_o the_o very_a heathen_a that_o never_o hear_v of_o christ_n so_o that_o 5.12_o heb._n not_o way_n to_o our_o knowledge_n whereupon_o it_o may_v be_v build_v as_o upon_o a_o sure_a foundation_n alas_o our_o knowledge_n it_o will_v be_v but_o vain_a idle_a swim_v in_o the_o brain_n and_o far_o from_o lead_v a_o man_n to_o the_o kingdom_n of_o grace_n or_o of_o glory_n oh_o then_o think_v of_o this_o betimes_o while_o the_o day_n of_o grace_n last_v oh_o man_n thou_o be_v labour_v knowledge_n whether_o it_o be_v this_o save_a knowledge_n of_o god_n heart_n 1_o it_o purge_v the_o heart_n or_o not_o if_o thou_o find_v that_o it_o purify_v thy_o heart_n purge_v thy_o mind_n will_n and_o affection_n from_o sin_n this_o be_v a_o infallible_a mark_n and_o token_n that_o it_o be_v this_o bless_a and_o sanctify_a knowledge_n that_o be_v begin_v in_o thou_o whereas_o on_o the_o contrary_a part_n carnal_a knowledge_n puff_v up_o the_o mind_n but_o this_o knowledge_n expel_v pride_n and_o cast_v a_o man_n down_o for_o his_o sin_n and_o therefore_o if_o thou_o find_v thy_o heart_n filthy_a and_o thy_o will_n rebellious_a thy_o knowledge_n then_o be_v but_o fleshly_a and_o carnal_a and_o it_o be_v not_o this_o save_a knowledge_n that_o be_v within_o thou_o second_o this_o knowledge_n be_v not_o a_o dead_a knowledge_n but_o it_o be_v a_o live_a knowledge_n it_o 2_o it_o will_v quicken_v those_o that_o have_v it_o it_o be_v a_o quicken_a knowledge_n and_o therefore_o call_v eternal_a life_n because_o it_o be_v live_v and_o will_v quicken_v those_o that_o have_v it_o in_o their_o breast_n it_o will_v not_o suffer_v a_o man_n to_o lie_v dead_a in_o sin_n and_o rot_v in_o sin_n but_o it_o will_v raise_v he_o up_o and_o quicken_v he_o in_o all_o holy_a duty_n to_o do_v the_o will_n of_o god_n the_o three_o property_n of_o this_o knowludge_n be_v sin_n 3_o it_o be_v ever_o work_v to_o destroy_v sin_n it_o be_v not_o a_o idle_a knowledge_n only_o swim_v in_o the_o brain_n but_o it_o be_v a_o operative_a and_o work_a knowledge_n it_o will_v work_v in_o they_o which_o have_v it_o as_o faith_n repentance_n mortification_n and_o newness_n of_o life_n love_n of_o god_n zeal_n of_o his_o glory_n sincere_a obedience_n to_o his_o will_n in_o all_o thing_n the_o four_o property_n of_o this_o save_a knowledge_n be_v this_o ever_o 4_o it_o be_v permanent_a it_o last_v for_o ever_o that_o be_v put_v into_o the_o mind_n of_o any_o christian_a man_n or_o woman_n it_o be_v durable_a and_o permanent_a and_o therefore_o our_o saviour_n call_v it_o eternal_a life_n because_o this_o knowledge_n last_v not_o for_o a_o day_n or_o two_o or_o for_o a_o year_n or_o two_o but_o be_v begin_v in_o this_o life_n it_o last_v for_o ever_o we_o know_v in_o part_n only_o in_o this_o life_n but_o our_o knowledge_n shall_v be_v perfect_a in_o the_o life_n to_o come_v now_o see_v what_o this_o knowledge_n be_v and_o what_o property_n use_v 2_o and_o effect_n it_o have_v namely_o that_o this_o knowledge_n be_v such_o a_o bless_a gift_n
may_v be_v save_v therefore_o god_n will_v send_v they_o strong_a delusion_n that_o they_o shall_v believe_v lie_n that_o all_o they_o may_v be_v damn_v that_o believe_v not_o the_o truth_n but_o take_v pleasure_n in_o unrighteousness_n the_o lord_n grant_v we_o more_o sanctify_a heart_n that_o we_o may_v make_v better_a use_n of_o his_o gracious_a opportunity_n that_o he_o do_v offer_v unto_o we_o that_o for_o the_o time_n to_o come_v we_o may_v make_v more_o right_a step_n to_o his_o kingdom_n this_o doctrine_n make_v first_o for_o the_o just_a reproof_n of_o all_o papist_n and_o all_o it_o have_v please_v god_n that_o this_o complaint_n can_v be_v take_v up_o of_o this_o country_n &_o part_n preach_v 1_o want_n of_o preach_v yet_o i_o be_o not_o ignorant_a that_o in_o some_o town_n and_o parish_n they_o have_v the_o word_n very_o seldom_o preach_v unto_o they_o perhaps_o monthly_a or_o less_o now_o 29.18_o pro._n 29.18_o where_o the_o word_n be_v not_o preach_v there_o the_o people_n perish_v or_o where_o vision_n fail_v the_o people_n be_v naked_a void_a of_o knowledge_n 10.14_o rom._n 10.14_o grace_n or_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n how_o shall_v they_o believe_v without_o minister_n people_n 2_o carelessness_n of_o the_o people_n another_o cause_n why_o ignorance_n abound_v be_v the_o wonderful_a security_n and_o carelessness_n of_o the_o people_n they_o have_v no_o desire_n to_o know_v god_n nor_o love_n nor_o desire_n to_o the_o sincere_a milk_n of_o the_o word_n yea_o they_o be_v well_o content_a to_o live_v still_o in_o their_o damnable_a ignorance_n and_o blindness_n 14._o 2._o pet_n 2._o job._n 21.15_o mal._n 3_o 14._o who_o be_v the_o almighty_a that_o we_o shall_v serve_v he_o and_o
the_o word_n preach_v and_o teach_v read_v receive_v or_o what_o duty_n else_o we_o be_v to_o perform_v in_o god_n service_n cheerfulness_n be_v require_v and_o indeed_o this_o be_v that_o which_o put_v the_o difference_n betwixt_o the_o godly_a and_o the_o wicked_a in_o all_o christian_a duty_n whatsoever_o the_o wicked_a man_n with_o cain_n come_v with_o his_o sacrifice_n as_o well_o as_o this_o doctrine_n note_n note_n perceive_v a_o great_a difference_n for_o the_o one_o do_v perform_v these_o duty_n for_o fashion_n sake_n for_o fear_n of_o the_o law_n shame_n punishment_n or_o the_o like_a whereas_o the_o child_n of_o god_n do_v perform_v they_o willing_o and_o cheerful_o notwithstanding_o no_o temporal_a law_n do_v require_v the_o same_o but_o only_o in_o obedience_n unto_o god_n most_o righteous_a law_n and_o holy_a commandment_n and_o sure_o there_o can_v be_v no_o great_a joy_n to_o any_o christian_a soul_n then_o to_o know_v how_o god_n the_o father_n be_v affect_v unto_o he_o and_o love_v he_o as_o his_o child_n to_o know_v that_o jesus_n christ_n have_v be_v content_a to_o shed_v his_o own_o heart_n blood_n to_o save_v his_o soul_n and_o to_o know_v the_o power_n of_o god_n spirit_n weaken_v our_o corruption_n and_o make_v we_o to_o cry_v abba_n father_n this_o knowledge_n pass_v all_o knowledge_n in_o the_o world_n 8.15_o rom._n 8.15_o this_o will_v at_o all_o oh_o then_o let_v we_o all_o labour_n to_o feel_v our_o spiritual_a want_n of_o it_o that_o so_o we_o may_v hunger_n and_o thirst_n after_o it_o as_o the_o spiritual_a food_n of_o our_o content_a with_o a_o little_a knowledge_n but_o they_o still_o desire_v for_o more_o and_o labour_n to_o grow_v and_o to_o increase_v in_o knowledge_n the_o covetous_a man_n the_o more_o he_o have_v the_o more_o he_o covet_v even_o so_o the_o christian_a man_n and_o woman_n be_v right_a covetous_a of_o heavenly_a matter_n he_o covet_v daily_o for_o more_o knowledge_n in_o the_o word_n to_o have_v a_o great_a part_n in_o this_o bless_a knowledge_n of_o god_n and_o of_o our_o salvation_n by_o jesus_n christ_n and_o in_o this_o regard_n the_o child_n of_o god_n be_v like_a unto_o a_o man_n in_o a_o dropsy_n the_o more_o he_o drink_v the_o more_o he_o be_v a_o thirst_n even_o so_o the_o more_o knowledge_n the_o child_n of_o god_n have_v the_o more_o he_o hunger_n and_o thirst_v after_o this_o knowledge_n that_o he_o may_v grow_v in_o the_o same_o and_o this_o be_v a_o special_a point_n to_o be_v note_v that_o there_o be_v no_o stand_v at_o a_o stay_n in_o religion_n for_o either_o we_o must_v go_v forward_o or_o backward_o either_o we_o must_v grow_v daily_o in_o knowledge_n 4.4_o 1._o thes_n 4.4_o or_o else_o we_o must_v needs_o decay_v in_o knowledge_n and_o for_o this_o cause_n saint_n paul_n do_v often_o pray_v for_o those_o church_n to_o who_o he_o write_v that_o they_o may_v grow_v in_o knowledge_n and_o spiritual_a understanding_n and_o saint_n peter_n he_o exhort_v we_o obedienc_n so_o that_o though_o man_n hear_v the_o word_n yet_o if_o they_o grow_v not_o and_o be_v not_o better_v by_o it_o they_o be_v no_o good_a hearer_n the_o word_n have_v no_o good_a fruit_n in_o they_o this_o duty_n of_o grow_v and_o increase_v in_o knowledge_n and_o all_o spiritual_a grace_n be_v often_o urge_v in_o the_o scripture_n 4.18_o 1._o cor._n 13.9_o 1._o thes_n 4.4_o 2._o religion_n as_o the_o a.b.c._n if_o our_o child_n go_v to_o school_n and_o learn_v nothing_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v that_o they_o play_v the_o truant_n or_o else_o they_o have_v a_o bad_a master_n see_v the_o flock_n of_o christ_n be_v small_a and_o they_o few_o that_o believe_v be_v the_o true_a church_n of_o god_n this_o reason_n be_v more_o against_o they_o then_o with_o they_o second_o this_o may_v serve_v to_o condemn_v they_o that_o use_v 2_o excuse_v their_o sin_n by_o the_o example_n of_o the_o multitude_n as_o pride_n covetousness_n etc._n etc._n i_o do_v but_o as_o other_o serve_v god_n yea_o we_o have_v lament_v our_o sin_n and_o humble_a ourselves_o before_o his_o face_n crave_v pardon_n at_o his_o hand_n what_o will_v he_o have_v we_o to_o do_v more_o to_o this_o cavil_n of_o they_o the_o prophet_n answer_v in_o lay_v open_a the_o cause_n of_o this_o complaint_n in_o these_o word_n for_o your_o goodness_n etc._n etc._n by_o goodness_n here_o he_o mean_v their_o outward_a service_n and_o worship_n of_o god_n their_o feign_a repentance_n they_o have_v some_o outward_a show_n of_o holiness_n and_o of_o repentance_n and_o service_n of_o god_n but_o it_o be_v void_a of_o sincerity_n and_o soundness_n of_o heart_n it_o be_v not_o in_o truth_n but_o from_o the_o tooth_n outward_a and_o therefore_o it_o be_v vanish_v and_o unconstant_a and_o of_o the_o sudden_a like_a unto_o the_o dew_n or_o morning_n cloud_n which_o be_v disperse_v in_o a_o moment_n by_o the_o sun_n in_o this_o people_n here_o we_o may_v behold_v the_o nature_n and_o doct._n 6_o property_n of_o all_o hypocrite_n they_o content_v themselves_o with_o the_o bare_a naked_a and_o outward_a service_n of_o god_n inward_a it_o be_v the_o property_n of_o hypocrite_n to_o mind_n more_o the_o outward_a part_n of_o god_n worship_n than_o the_o inward_a never_o look_v for_o the_o truth_n of_o it_o in_o their_o heart_n &_o soul_n for_o though_o they_o offer_v sacrifice_n and_o oblation_n come_v to_o the_o temple_n seem_v to_o repent_v yet_o it_o be_v only_o in_o outward_a show_n not_o sound_v nor_o sincere_a it_o never_o come_v from_o their_o heart_n and_o what_o account_v such_o service_n of_o god_n be_v with_o god_n he_o declare_v by_o his_o prophet_n esay_n when_o he_o say_v 1.14_o esay_n 1.14_o my_o soul_n hate_v your_o new_a moon_n and_o your_o appoint_a feast_n they_o be_v a_o burden_n unto_o i_o i_o be_o a_o weary_a to_o bear_v they_o they_o will_v keep_v the_o sabbath_n and_o frequent_v the_o solemn_a assembly_n but_o it_o be_v but_o for_o custom_n and_o forward_o but_o that_o they_o bring_v now_o a_o lame_a sacrifice_n unto_o the_o lord_n it_o be_v but_o a_o lip_n service_n and_o a_o will_v worship_v and_o the_o lord_n do_v esteem_v no_o better_o of_o it_o then_o the_o kill_n of_o a_o man_n and_o the_o cut_n off_o of_o a_o dog_n neck_n or_o the_o offer_n up_o of_o swine_n blood_n all_o which_o be_v abominable_a unto_o the_o lord_n for_o god_n be_v a_o spirit_n and_o therefore_o will_v be_v worship_v 66.3.4_o esay_n 66.3.4_o not_o only_o according_a to_o the_o outward_a ceremony_n of_o his_o worship_n but_o in_o spirit_n &_o truth_n to_o themselves_o that_o so_o long_o as_o they_o perform_v the_o outward_a rite_n of_o god_n worship_n &_o service_n as_o to_o come_v to_o church_n hear_v the_o word_n receive_v the_o sacrament_n and_o the_o like_a all_o be_v well_o with_o they_o they_o need_v no_o more_o in_o these_o jew_n we_o may_v clear_o see_v a_o counterpane_n of_o our_o people_n and_o time_n what_o be_v the_o cause_n why_o after_o use_v 1_o so_o much_o and_o so_o long_o preach_v man_n shall_v remain_v so_o ignorant_a so_o covetous_a so_o vile_a and_o so_o sinful_a still_o be_v it_o not_o because_o most_o man_n content_v themselves_o with_o the_o outward_a service_n and_o worship_n of_o god_n why_o do_v not_o the_o mean_n that_o convert_v those_o jew_n in_o the_o begin_n of_o this_o chapter_n convert_v these_o of_o
