of_o hell_n into_o which_o body_n and_o soul_n of_o wicked_a man_n shall_v be_v cast_v can_v be_v quench_v where_o the_o worm_n die_v not_o and_o the_o fire_n be_v not_o quench_v etc._n etc._n why_o repeat_v so_o often_o be_v it_o not_o to_o assure_v all_o ungodly_a person_n of_o the_o certainty_n 48._o of_o it_o man_n be_v not_o willing_a to_o believe_v this_o great_a truth_n they_o be_v too_o ready_a to_o think_v that_o it_o be_v inconsistent_a with_o infinite_a goodness_n to_o inflict_v such_o punishment_n on_o his_o creature_n but_o alas_o they_o forget_v that_o there_o be_v a_o none_o be_v able_a to_o conceive_v much_o less_o to_o declare_v what_o pain_n and_o anguish_n the_o damn_a undergo_v what_o torment_v like_o fire_n and_o what_o fire_n be_v so_o hot_a and_o so_o torment_v as_o hell-fire_n sad_a it_o be_v to_o burn_v half_o a_o hour_n in_o a_o elementary_a fire_n yet_o the_o martyr_n have_v endure_v that_o for_o christ_n sake_n god_n make_v it_o easy_a to_o some_o of_o they_o but_o alas_o who_o can_v bear_v the_o burn_n of_o hell-fire_n when_o wrath_n shall_v be_v let_v out_o upon_o the_o soul_n to_o the_o utterermost_a o_o sir_n what_o a_o fearful_a thing_n will_v it_o be_v to_o be_v find_v chaff_n and_o false_a hypocritical_a person_n such_o can_v escape_v the_o damnation_n of_o hell_n no_o nor_o can_v any_o sinner_n whatsoever_o except_o they_o believe_v repent_v or_o be_v bear_v again_o there_o be_v no_o avoid_v being_n cast_v into_o unquenchable_a fire_n three_o i_o shall_v now_o endeavour_v to_o prove_v the_o point_n viz._n that_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n in_o hell_n be_v intolerable_a and_o far_o great_a than_o any_o wrath_n let_v out_o here_o either_o on_o the_o body_n or_o soul_n of_o man_n which_o will_v appear_v if_o we_o consider_v these_o particular_n follow_v first_o the_o extremity_n of_o their_o torment_n will_v appear_v upon_o the_o consideration_n that_o it_o be_v inconceivable_a beyond_o all_o man_n understanding_n 11._o who_o know_v the_o power_n of_o thy_o anger_n who_o can_v apprehend_v inconceivable_a it_o or_o be_v right_o and_o due_o affect_v therewith_o we_o can_v conceive_v of_o all_o bondslave_n and_o in_o fearful_a slavery_n to_o these_o enemy_n have_v their_o eye_n put_v out_o their_o fleece_n tear_v off_o or_o stripe_v of_o their_o robe_n be_v dangerous_o wound_v and_o although_o jesus_n christ_n to_o redeem_v they_o from_o wrath_n and_o misery_n lay_v down_o a_o great_a price_n as_o you_o hear_v before_o to_o satisfy_v god_n justice_n yet_o alas_o satan_n take_v restauration_n that_o be_v such_o that_o it_o can_v be_v lose_v any_o more_o without_o the_o high_a dishonour_n to_o god_n and_o a_o frustration_n of_o his_o eternal_a purpose_n and_o counsel_n which_o be_v to_o destroy_v the_o work_n of_o the_o devil_n if_o any_o shall_v object_v that_o adam_n have_v the_o image_n of_o god_n in_o he_o before_o he_o fall_v and_o lose_v it_o i_o answer_v he_o credence_n or_o a_o historical_a faith_n believe_v the_o report_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o revelation_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o sum_n of_o the_o christian_a religion_n nay_o believe_v or_o receive_v the_o word_n with_o some_o sort_n of_o joy_n mat._n 13._o 20._o moreover_o they_o may_v be_v baptize_v and_o receive_v into_o the_o church_n and_o be_v look_v upon_o to_o be_v true_a believer_n but_o because_o these_o thing_n be_v daily_o open_v to_o you_o i_o shall_v not_o enlarge_v further_o upon_o they_o you_o that_o have_v that_o excellent_a book_n call_v the_o almost_o darkness_n how_o great_a be_v that_o darkness_n 23._o now_o as_o touch_v the_o special_a and_o save_a illumination_n of_o the_o spirit_n they_o differ_v from_o the_o common_a 1._o in_o respect_n of_o conviction_n of_o sin_n evangelical_n illumination_n spirit_n of_o the_o spirit_n discover_v to_o the_o soul_n its_o fearful_a state_n not_o only_o that_o sin_n be_v of_o a_o hateful_a nature_n but_o that_o he_o be_v condemn_v as_o a_o person_n dead_a in_o law_n and_o tremble_v at_o the_o sight_n and_o sense_n thereof_o not_o know_v but_o that_o the_o sentence_n may_v be_v sudden_o execute_v upon_o he_o they_o be_v prick_v in_o the_o heart_n and_o cry_v out_o man_n and_o brethren_n 37._o what_o shall_v we_o do_v it_o be_v their_o sin_n that_o make_v they_o cry_v out_o but_o pray_v and_o no_o doubt_n say_v the_o truth_n that_o there_o be_v a_o inferior_a common_a work_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n in_o the_o dispensation_n of_o the_o word_n on_o many_o to_o who_o it_o be_v preach_v cause_v in_o they_o a_o great_a alteration_n and_o change_n as_o to_o light_n knowledge_n ability_n gift_n affection_n life_n and_o conversation_n when_o the_o person_n so_o wrought_v upon_o be_v not_o quicken_v regenerate_v or_o make_v new_a creature_n nor_o unite_v to_o jesus_n christ_n that_o in_o the_o person_n thus_o wrought_v upon_o there_o be_v or_o may_v be_v such_o a_o assent_n and_o light_n and_o conviction_n of_o the_o truth_n propose_v and_o preach_v to_o they_o as_o in_o its_o kind_n be_v true_a not_o counterfeit_a giving_z or_o afford_v to_o they_o a_o profession_n of_o the_o faith_n that_o be_v they_o be_v blind_v and_o know_v not_o that_o they_o be_v unsound_a in_o the_o main_n their_o heart_n for_o want_n of_o true_a light_n deceive_v they_o as_o in_o the_o case_n of_o the_o foolish_a virgin_n nay_o and_o they_o may_v perhaps_o hold_v out_o in_o their_o profession_n constant_o unto_o death_n nay_o may_v give_v their_o body_n to_o be_v burn_v 2._o o_o see_v brethren_n that_o your_o faith_n be_v the_o faith_n of_o god_n elect_n and_o that_o you_o be_v save_o renew_v o_o look_v about_o you_o since_o it_o may_v be_v thus_o the_o doctor_n add_v that_o among_o these_o person_n be_v ofttimes_o some_o that_o be_v endue_v with_o excellent_a gift_n and_o lovely_a part_n qualification_n and_o ability_n render_v they_o very_o useful_a to_o the_o church_n of_o god_n be_v vessel_n in_o his_o house_n to_o hold_v and_o convey_v to_o other_o the_o precious_a liquor_n of_o the_o gospel_n though_o never_o have_v their_o own_o evil_a heart_n change_v to_o which_o let_v i_o add_v they_o be_v such_o or_o of_o this_o sort_n of_o person_n who_o be_v liable_a to_o sin_v the_o sin_n against_o the_o holy_a ghost_n or_o so_o fall_v that_o it_o may_v be_v impossible_a for_o they_o to_o be_v renew_v by_o repentance_n yet_o before_o they_o so_o fall_v it_o may_v not_o be_v impossible_a for_o they_o to_o become_v true_a convert_v the_o nature_n of_o which_o sin_n against_o the_o holy_a ghost_n i_o purpose_v to_o open_a before_o i_o close_o with_o this_o text._n four_o i_o shall_v proceed_v to_o show_v you_o what_o a_o taste_n of_o god_n and_o 2._o of_o his_o good_a word_n it_o be_v which_o all_o true_a believer_n have_v 1._o it_o be_v a_o taste_n that_o arise_v from_o spiritual_a hunger_n there_o be_v a_o true_a sense_n of_o want_n they_o have_v a_o crave_v appetite_n and_o nothing_o but_o god_n in_o christ_n can_v satisfy_v their_o soul_n my_o soul_n thirst_v for_o god_n for_o the_o live_a god_n say_v david_n and_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o they_o be_v pronounce_v bless_v bless_v be_v they_o which_o hunger_n and_o thirst_n after_o righteousness_n 6._o for_o they_o shall_v be_v fill_v not_o have_v only_o a_o taste_n no_o no_o but_o kind_n of_o taste_n they_o may_v have_v of_o those_o power_n etc._n etc._n 1._o by_o the_o power_n of_o the_o world_n to_o come_v of_o which_o they_o be_v say_v to_o have_v a_o taste_n i_o understand_v be_v mean_v the_o glorious_a effect_n of_o god_n mighty_a power_n that_o be_v and_o shall_v be_v further_o exert_v in_o bring_v in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o the_o messiah_n first_o in_o those_o miraculous_a operation_n which_o be_v to_o assure_v we_o of_o the_o certainty_n of_o the_o new_a world_n be_v wrought_v before_o these_o man_n eye_n 2._o the_o power_n of_o the_o world_n to_o come_v do_v doubtless_o consist_v also_o in_o the_o dissolve_v of_o this_o present_a world_n and_o all_o the_o state_n and_o kingdom_n of_o the_o earth_n thou_o have_v of_o old_a lay_v the_o in_o according_a to_o his_o mighty_a power_n the_o new_a heaven_n and_o the_o new_a earth_n the_o heaven_n shall_v pass_v away_o with_o a_o great_a noise_n and_o the_o element_n shall_v melt_v with_o that_o believe_v for_o as_o the_o let_v out_o of_o the_o power_n of_o his_o wrath_n and_o vengeance_n in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v upon_o the_o wicked_a as_o be_v hint_v before_o may_v hereby_o be_v comprehend_v so_o likewise_o the_o let_v out_o of_o the_o power_n of_o his_o love_n and_o goodness_n on_o the_o godly_a second_o i_o shall_v show_v you_o now_o what_o a_o kind_n of_o taste_v the_o prophesy_v in_o thy_o 22._o name_n and_o in_o thy_o name_n cast_v out_o devil_n and_o in_o thy_o name_n do_v many_o wonderful_a work_n to_o who_o christ_n will_v say_v i_o profess_v i_o never_o know_v you_o depart_v from_o i_o you_o that_o work_n iniquity_n no_o doubt_n but_o as_o saul_n and_o balaam_n prophesy_v so_o judas_n may_v as_o well_o as_o the_o other_o apostle_n cast_v out_o devil_n and_o may_v cause_v they_o steadfast_o to_o believe_v the_o truth_n of_o the_o power_n of_o the_o world_n to_o come_v in_o the_o future_a state_n and_o glory_n thereof_o many_o person_n do_v not_o firm_o and_o certainty_n of_o it_o but_o may_v also_o be_v under_o great_a conviction_n of_o the_o evil_a of_o sin_n know_v that_o all_o the_o sweet_a thereof_o will_v be_v turn_v into_o bitter_a and_o that_o sin_n in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v will_v be_v punish_v and_o the_o sinner_n condemn_v to_o everlasting_a burn_v and_o that_o god_n will_v reward_v every_o man_n according_a to_o his_o deed_n and_o may_v know_v also_o that_o some_o shall_v find_v great_a condemnation_n or_o a_o hot_a hell_n than_o other_o more_o intolerable_a pain_n in_o that_o day_n as_o 1._o all_o such_o who_o draw_v other_o into_o sin_n whether_o it_o be_v drunkenness_n pride_n theft_n uncleanness_n etc._n etc._n 2._o all_o such_o who_o sin_n after_o strong_a conviction_n and_o great_a illumination_n or_o that_o sin_n against_o light_n and_o knowledge_n 3._o such_o who_o have_v be_v often_o reprove_v and_o yet_o live_v in_o their_o wicked_a practice_n and_o harden_v their_o heart_n let_v minister_n and_o godly_a parent_n say_v what_o they_o will_v they_o regard_v it_o not_o 4._o such_o who_o have_v great_a mean_n of_o grace_n than_o other_o or_o who_o live_v under_o a_o awaken_n and_o powerful_a face_n of_o the_o sun_n show_v their_o sin_n as_o sodom_n and_o hide_v it_o not_o 7._o such_o who_o expose_v the_o holy_a name_n of_o god_n which_o they_o profess_v to_o reproach_n and_o harden_v the_o wicked_a world_n in_o their_o sin_n and_o open_v the_o mouth_n of_o many_o to_o blaspheme_v god_n and_o speak_v evil_a of_o his_o way_n and_o people_n 8._o such_o who_o delight_n in_o sin_n or_o take_v pleasure_n in_o their_o wickedness_n do_v boast_n and_o glory_n in_o that_o which_o be_v their_o shame_n 9_o such_o who_o despise_v and_o contemn_v jesus_n christ_n and_o his_o minister_n in_o withdraw_v the_o influence_n of_o his_o holy_a spirit_n from_o man_n or_o refuse_v to_o give_v grace_n to_o they_o in_o order_n to_o bring_v they_o to_o repentance_n and_o to_o believe_v in_o christ_n they_o must_v perish_v now_o god_n will_v not_o afford_v these_o person_n that_o so_o fall_v away_o the_o assistance_n of_o his_o spirit_n in_o order_n to_o the_o work_v the_o great_a work_n of_o faith_n in_o they_o therefore_o it_o be_v impossible_a for_o they_o to_o be_v renew_v he_o say_v not_o say_v one_o dickson_n it_o be_v impossible_a they_o shall_v be_v save_v but_o that_o it_o be_v for_o the_o great_a sinner_n in_o the_o world_n to_o be_v renew_v that_o have_v not_o sin_v against_o the_o holy_a ghost_n or_o who_o god_n have_v not_o whole_o give_v up_o to_o blindness_n of_o mind_n and_o to_o hardness_n of_o heart_n all_o manner_n of_o sin_n and_o blasphemy_n against_o the_o father_n and_o the_o sun_n shall_v be_v forgive_v unto_o man_n but_o the_o blasphemy_n against_o 31._o the_o holy_a ghost_n shall_v not_o be_v forgive_v unto_o men._n and_o all_o vnrighteousness_n be_v sin_n and_o there_o be_v a_o sin_n unto_o death_n 3._o god_n leave_v these_o person_n for_o the_o barren_a figtree_n never_o fruit_n grow_v on_o you_o any_o more_o 5._o god_n in_o judgement_n and_o wrath_n give_v these_o up_o to_o a_o reprobate_a sense_n to_o hardness_n of_o heart_n to_o blindness_n of_o mind_n and_o to_o a_o sear_a conscience_n and_o they_o become_v notorious_o wicked_a be_v fill_v with_o rage_n and_o madness_n full_a of_o envy_n and_o malice_n against_o god_n and_o against_o christ_n and_o against_o all_o that_o fear_n god_n 6._o and_o usual_o they_o be_v leave_v in_o severity_n to_o their_o sensual_a lust_n and_o become_v notorious_o wicked_a and_o profane_a nay_o rather_o worse_o than_o the_o worst_a of_o carnal_a person_n that_o never_o be_v enlighten_v at_o all_o and_o so_o he_o give_v they_o up_o to_o their_o own_o heart_n lust_n and_o they_o walk_v 12._o in_o their_o own_o counsel_n they_o be_v leave_v or_o give_v up_o unto_o satan_n to_o be_v lead_v act_v and_o influence_v by_o he_o and_o be_v common_o also_o carry_v away_o into_o pernicious_a error_n and_o delusion_n even_o to_o believe_v a_o lie_n that_o 12._o so_o they_o may_v be_v damn_v because_o they_o receive_v not_o the_o truth_n in_o the_o love_n of_o it_o that_o they_o may_v be_v save_v and_o many_o time_n they_o become_v persecutor_n of_o god_n people_n reproach_v vilify_a and_o contemn_v all_o religion_n quest_n what_o a_o kind_n of_o sin_n be_v the_o sin_n against_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o what_o sort_n of_o person_n be_v they_o who_o may_v sin_v this_o sin_n answ_n 1._o i_o shall_v show_v you_o first_o in_o the_o negative_a what_o a_o sin_n it_o be_v not_o namely_o all_o sin_n or_o sin_n whatsoever_o that_o any_o carnal_a person_n ghost_n who_o to_o this_o day_n abode_n under_o the_o power_n of_o natural_a ignorance_n and_o never_o be_v enlighten_v by_o any_o operation_n of_o the_o spirit_n commit_v for_o such_o can_v commit_v the_o sin_n against_o the_o holy_a ghost_n it_o be_v positive_o say_v that_o they_o be_v such_o who_o be_v once_o enlighten_v 2._o it_o be_v not_o every_o sin_n which_o be_v against_o light_n and_o knowledge_n for_o no_o doubt_n but_o david_n and_o peter_n sin_v against_o knowledge_n and_o the_o light_n of_o their_o own_o conscience_n and_o after_o they_o have_v be_v enlighten_v yet_o be_v recover_v and_o renew_v unto_o repentance_n 3._o the_o sin_n against_o the_o holy_a ghost_n be_v not_o every_o sin_n that_o be_v commit_v against_o the_o holy_a ghost_n for_o he_o that_o grieve_v the_o holy_a spirit_n and_o that_o quench_v the_o holy_a spirit_n sin_n against_o the_o holy_a spirit_n nay_o all_o wicked_a man_n who_o sit_v under_o the_o preach_a of_o the_o gospel_n no_o doubt_n sin_n against_o the_o spirit_n whilst_o they_o resist_v the_o strive_n and_o motion_n thereof_o 4._o it_o be_v not_o any_o heinous_a and_o abominable_a sin_n as_o whoredom_n perjury_n murder_n no_o not_o self-murder_n not_o the_o murder_a of_o the_o saint_n of_o god_n nor_o put_v christ_n himself_o to_o death_n by_o wicked_a hand_n or_o the_o murder_n of_o the_o lord_n of_o life_n and_o glory_n paul_n be_v guilty_a of_o the_o blood_n of_o stephen_n and_o many_o of_o the_o jew_n be_v pardon_v who_o may_v have_v a_o hand_n in_o the_o barbarous_a murder_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n 5._o it_o be_v not_o every_o wilful_a and_o presumptuous_a sin_n for_o multitude_n of_o wicked_a ignorant_a person_n so_o sin_n daily_o for_o who_o there_o be_v mercy_n and_o pardon_n upon_o repentance_n though_o they_o have_v a_o whore_n forehead_n 3_o and_o refuse_v to_o be_v ashamed_a 6._o it_o be_v not_o every_o degree_n of_o apostasy_n or_o backslide_n from_o god_n a_o true_a child_n of_o god_n may_v be_v guilty_a of_o a_o partial_a apostasy_n for_o thus_o israel_n sin_v and_o fall_v from_o god_n nay_o backslid_o so_o far_o as_o to_o turn_v to_o curse_a idolatry_n yet_o god_n offer_v they_o pardon_n return_v backslide_v israel_n say_v the_o lord_n and_o i_o will_v not_o cause_v my_o anger_n to_o fall_v upon_o 12._o you_o soul_n who_o reply_v that_o he_o have_v be_v a_o sinner_n but_o if_o god_n spare_v he_o he_o hope_v to_o make_v god_n amends_o for_o all_o some_o sin_n and_o commit_v horrid_a evil_n in_o the_o day_n through_o a_o inordinate_a love_n to_o the_o thing_n of_o this_o world_n their_o affection_n be_v corrupt_v and_o set_v upon_o the_o creature_n upon_o their_o riches_n honour_n and_o pleasure_n 7._o it_o be_v through_o that_o love_n many_o have_v to_o their_o sin_n and_o sinful_a practice_n and_o sinful_a companion_n 8._o it_o be_v through_o the_o deceitfulness_n and_o treachery_n of_o their_o own_o evil_a heart_n 9_o through_o slavish_a fear_n or_o pretend_a modesty_n they_o dare_v not_o be_v so_o bold_a to_o venture_v themselves_o on_o christ_n be_v such_o great_a sinner_n and_o have_v
