birth_n of_o nature_n child_n when_o they_o be_v first_o bear_v they_o shoot_v up_o mighty_o take_v a_o child_n that_o come_v very_o little_a out_o of_o the_o womb_n come_v to_o it_o a_o quarter_n unto_o they_o this_o be_v happiness_n of_o a_o christian_n that_o the_o while_o he_o be_v in_o his_o work_n the_o sun_n of_o righteousness_n shine_v upon_o he_o and_o there_o be_v sweetness_n come_v in_o unto_o he_o and_o herein_o be_v rest_n and_o ease_v in_o the_o performance_n of_o duty_n ten_o and_o last_o when_o the_o soul_n come_v to_o christ_n it_o find_v abundance_n of_o rest_n in_o holy_a duty_n because_o now_o it_o have_v the_o love_n of_o god_n shed_v abroad_o in_o its_o heart_n and_o that_o make_v every_o thing_n delightful_a to_o it_o the_o love_n of_o god_n be_v shed_v abroad_o in_o the_o heart_n you_o know_v jacob_n because_o he_o love_v rachel_n though_o he_o be_v abroad_o in_o frosty_a night_n he_o account_v it_o nothing_o because_o he_o love_v rachel_n oh_o when_o the_o love_n of_o god_n be_v shed_v abroad_o in_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o christian_a then_o there_o be_v nothing_o that_o he_o do_v but_o be_v delightful_a to_o he_o it_o make_v every_o thing_n rest_n of_o spirit_n in_o performance_n of_o holy_a duty_n do_v appear_v there_o be_v much_o more_o to_o be_v say_v in_o the_o latter_a end_n of_o the_o chapter_n when_o it_o be_v say_v that_o those_o that_o be_v draw_v to_o holy_a duty_n they_o will_v not_o abide_v as_o it_o be_v say_v the_o son_n abide_v in_o the_o house_n but_o a_o servant_n abide_v not_o always_o in_o the_o house_n so_o such_o as_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o legal_a way_n they_o will_v be_v go_v they_o will_v not_o abide_v but_o now_o one_o that_o be_v come_v into_o christ_n and_o have_v a_o sonlike_a disposition_n he_o continue_v as_o we_o say_v in_o philosophy_n no_o violent_a thing_n or_o motion_n be_v perpetual_a and_o indeed_o those_o that_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o legal_a way_n a_o hundred_o to_o one_o but_o they_o will_v prove_v apostate_n at_o last_o but_o one_o that_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o evangelical_n way_n will_v continue_v and_o hold_v out_o unto_o the_o end_n iii_o the_o main_a use_n of_o all_o be_v to_o stir_v up_o the_o heart_n of_o those_o that_o be_v godly_a to_o know_v what_o the_o gospel_n mean_v to_o exercise_v much_o faith_n in_o christ_n that_o they_o may_v have_v much_o comfort_n in_o performance_n of_o duty_n do_v not_o content_v thyself_o that_o thou_o do_v duty_n but_o think_v with_o thyself_o oh_o i_o have_v hear_v of_o such_o a_o way_n that_o christian_n in_o cheerful_a giver_n and_o so_o he_o love_v a_o cheerful_a server_n you_o love_v to_o hear_v your_o servant_n sing_v at_o their_o work_n but_o if_o you_o set_v your_o child_n or_o servant_n about_o a_o work_n and_o he_o go_v heavy_o and_o dull_o about_o be_v grumble_a and_o pine_v and_o think_v you_o to_o be_v a_o hard_a master_n than_o he_o do_v but_o a_o little_a work_n so_o they_o that_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o legal_a way_n the_o truth_n be_v they_o perform_v little_a duty_n and_o that_o be_v not_o acceptable_a but_o when_o a_o soul_n come_v to_o find_v rest_n in_o duty_n it_o make_v it_o more_o spiritual_a more_o plentiful_a and_o more_o acceptable_a and_o those_o duty_n be_v very_o please_v unto_o the_o lord_n chap._n xxxvi_o show_v the_o rest_n from_o the_o remainder_n of_o corruption_n to_o be_v sanctification_n and_o that_o to_o be_v a_o great_a rest_n lay_v open_a in_o six_o particular_n 1._o it_o be_v the_o right_a temper_n of_o the_o heart_n 2._o in_o it_o the_o soul_n do_v in_o great_a part_n attain_v its_o end_n 3._o in_o it_o the_o soul_n live_v the_o life_n of_o god_n 4._o it_o raise_v the_o soul_n above_o the_o region_n of_o all_o trouble_n 5._o that_o the_o remainder_n of_o corruption_n be_v a_o great_a burden_n it_o be_v so_o great_a a_o load_n that_o it_o make_v the_o apostle_n cry_v out_o oh_o wretched_a man_n that_o i_o be_o who_o shall_v deliver_v i_o from_o this_o body_n of_o death_n how_o that_o be_v a_o load_n have_v be_v already_o open_v that_o which_o we_o have_v now_o to_o do_v be_v to_o show_v what_o rest_n be_v to_o deliverance_n from_o the_o trouble_n of_o soul_n in_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n that_o be_v before_o speak_v of_o but_o now_o we_o be_v to_o speak_v of_o the_o rest_n in_o give_v power_n against_o the_o remainder_n of_o corruption_n that_o there_o be_v in_o the_o heart_n this_o rest_n be_v the_o rest_n of_o sanctification_n that_o here_o we_o be_v to_o speak_v of_o i_o will_v give_v you_o rest_n and_o in_o this_o point_n there_o be_v a_o great_a many_o of_o useful_a and_o sweet_a thing_n that_o may_v require_v very_o large_a handle_n but_o i_o shall_v endeavour_v as_o much_o as_o i_o can_v to_o contract_v all_o within_o a_o few_o thing_n for_o this_o rest_n of_o sanctification_n there_o be_v in_o it_o these_o five_o thing_n to_o be_v follow_v that_o you_o may_v see_v clear_o the_o method_n that_o i_o shall_v proceed_v in_o and_o so_o go_v along_o with_o i_o first_o i_o shall_v show_v you_o that_o sanctification_n be_v a_o great_a rest_n to_o the_o soul_n or_o deliverance_n from_o corruption_n be_v a_o great_a rest_n to_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o believer_n there_o be_v much_o rest_n in_o sanctification_n second_o that_o this_o rest_n it_o be_v in_o christ_n all_o our_o sanctification_n and_o help_v against_o corruption_n be_v in_o christ_n three_o how_o christ_n come_v to_o be_v this_o rest_n unto_o the_o soul_n four_o some_o consequence_n acquaint_v with_o the_o mystery_n of_o godliness_n they_o know_v not_o how_o to_o fetch_v strength_n from_o christ_n to_o enable_v they_o to_o keep_v their_o resolution_n they_o do_v not_o know_v where_o the_o stock_n of_o grace_n lie_v they_o depend_v upon_o their_o own_o resolution_n and_o promise_n they_o do_v not_o see_v the_o strength_n that_o shall_v come_v from_o christ_n and_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o all_o their_o vow_n and_o covenant_n come_v to_o nothing_o as_o we_o read_v of_o samson_n he_o say_v after_o his_o strength_n be_v go_v from_o he_o that_o he_o will_v go_v forth_o as_o before_o but_o the_o lord_n be_v depart_v from_o he_o so_o you_o think_v if_o god_n restore_v you_o you_o will_v live_v better_o and_o overcome_v your_o corruption_n you_o will_v not_o live_v as_o before_o i_o but_o the_o strength_n of_o christ_n be_v not_o with_o you_o you_o do_v not_o know_v that_o the_o strength_n of_o christ_n be_v depart_v from_o you_o adam_n have_v grace_n from_o god_n as_o the_o creator_n it_o be_v not_o for_o we_o to_o pray_v to_o god_n for_o grace_n as_o creator_n of_o all_o thing_n but_o we_o must_v seek_v god_n in_o christ_n and_o see_v how_o the_o fullness_n of_o all_o the_o godhead_n dwell_v bodily_a in_o he_o and_o so_o we_o come_v to_o have_v strength_n against_o our_o corruption_n i_o remember_v a_o german_a divine_a writing_n to_o his_o friend_n profess_v that_o before_o he_o understand_v the_o way_n of_o the_o gospel_n he_o have_v vow_v and_o covenant_v a_o thousand_o time_n against_o some_o sin_n and_o can_v never_o overcome_v they_o but_o after_o the_o lord_n reveal_v to_o he_o the_o way_n of_o the_o gospel_n that_o all_o strength_n come_v in_o by_o exercise_v faith_n in_o christ_n and_o see_v the_o father_n give_v his_o son_n to_o supply_v all_o grace_n and_o exercise_v faith_n in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n he_o find_v strength_n against_o his_o corruption_n so_o that_o he_o be_v able_a very_o comfortable_o to_o walk_v with_o god_n in_o the_o way_n of_o holiness_n so_o christian_n that_o understand_v the_o way_n the_o gospel_n will_v find_v abundance_n of_o power_n against_o their_o corruption_n more_o than_o they_o do_v with_o all_o their_o strive_v and_o pain_n take_v before_o though_o we_o shall_v strive_v and_o take_v all_o pain_n we_o can_v yet_o we_o must_v know_v that_o this_o will_v not_o do_v it_o without_o the_o exercise_n of_o faith_n in_o christ_n for_o the_o help_a of_o we_o against_o our_o corruption_n four_o from_o hence_o follow_v also_o that_o it_o be_v impossible_a any_o shall_v be_v a_o member_n of_o christ_n but_o he_o must_v needs_o be_v holy_a because_o christ_n be_v our_o sanctification_n christ_n be_v fill_v full_o of_o holiness_n that_o holiness_n may_v be_v convey_v to_o his_o member_n therefore_o those_o that_o have_v yet_o their_o lust_n in_o the_o strength_n of_o they_o that_o have_v not_o the_o rest_n of_o sanctification_n in_o some_o measure_n sure_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n be_v not_o in_o they_o these_o can_v stand_v together_o to_o be_v a_o member_n of_o christ_n and_o yet_o to_o walk_v in_o filthiness_n these_o can_v stand_v together_o for_o christ_n be_v the_o great_a prophet_n that_o teach_v and_o the_o great_a king_n of_o his_o church_n to_o govern_v and_o certain_o whatsoever_o be_v bring_v to_o he_o must_v be_v teach_v of_o he_o and_o govern_v by_o he_o it_o be_v impossible_a to_o have_v communion_n with_o the_o fountain_n of_o all_o holiness_n and_o yet_o for_o all_o that_o to_o live_v under_o the_o power_n of_o sin_n this_o can_v be_v v._o from_o hence_o follow_v likewise_o that_o for_o any_o to_o be_v hinder_v in_o their_o come_n to_o christ_n because_o they_o have_v not_o that_o measure_n of_o holiness_n that_o they_o desire_v this_o be_v a_o great_a temptation_n for_o any_o soul_n that_o see_v the_o want_n of_o grace_n the_o want_n of_o sanctification_n and_o labour_n under_o the_o burden_n of_o corruption_n for_o any_o such_o soul_n to_o be_v hinder_v in_o the_o come_n of_o it_o unto_o christ_n because_o it_o have_v not_o what_o grace_n it_o do_v desire_v this_o be_v a_o very_a strong_a and_o a_o dangerous_a temptation_n of_o the_o devil_n which_o we_o be_v to_o take_v heed_n of_o it_o be_v a_o most_o irrational_a temptation_n and_o yet_o this_o be_v that_o that_o many_o poor_a soul_n be_v trouble_v withal_o they_o think_v thus_o when_o we_o exhort_v they_o to_o come_v to_o christ_n alas_o what_o shall_v i_o do_v poor_a creature_n i_o be_o so_o vild_a i_o have_v such_o a_o wicked_a and_o sinful_a heart_n how_o shall_v i_o come_v to_o he_o be_v i_o thus_o and_o thus_o have_v i_o power_n over_o my_o corruption_n as_o other_o have_v than_o i_o can_v be_v bold_a to_o come_v to_o christ_n now_o what_o a_o temptation_n be_v this_o christ_n say_v come_v and_o i_o will_v give_v you_o rest_n you_o say_v if_o i_o have_v rest_v i_o will_v come_v christ_n be_v the_o fountain_n of_o all_o holiness_n therefore_o to_o be_v keep_v off_o from_o christ_n because_o i_o want_v holiness_n be_v a_o very_a great_a temptation_n it_o be_v the_o work_n of_o the_o devil_n shall_v i_o be_v keep_v off_o from_o xlii_o contain_v a_o exhortation_n to_o come_v to_o christ_n wherein_o three_o hindrance_n be_v remove_v and_o six_o encouragment_n lay_v down_o first_o the_o union_n between_o christ_n and_o a_o illumination_n about_o christ_n yea_o and_o some_o cord_n of_o mercy_n have_v be_v fasten_v upon_o your_o heart_n now_o if_o god_n will_v but_o stir_v up_o conscience_n give_v a_o command_n to_o conscience_n and_o say_v never_o suffer_v this_o man_n or_o this_o woman_n to_o be_v at_o quiet_a till_o they_o come_v to_o my_o son_n till_o their_o heart_n be_v take_v off_o from_o all_o thing_n fatness_n as_o we_o shall_v find_v when_o we_o come_v to_o the_o open_n of_o it_o i_o shall_v first_o give_v you_o one_o note_n brief_o from_o the_o connexion_n of_o these_o word_n with_o the_o it_o clear_v that_o in_o our_o come_n to_o jesus_n christ_n it_o be_v lawful_a for_o we_o to_o have_v some_o aim_n at_o our_o own_o good_a yea_o not_o only_o lawful_a for_o we_o but_o we_o ought_v so_o to_o do_v for_o we_o be_v to_o look_v upon_o christ_n so_o as_o christ_n propound_v himself_o unto_o we_o not_o only_o lawful_a i_o say_v to_o look_v upon_o christ_n so_o as_o he_o propound_v himself_o to_o we_o but_o it_o be_v our_o duty_n so_o to_o look_v upon_o he_o now_o when_o christ_n propound_v himself_o unto_o we_o as_o a_o object_n to_o draw_v our_o heart_n to_o he_o he_o do_v propound_v himself_o as_o one_o wherein_o our_o soul_n shall_v gain_v abundance_n of_o good_a one_o that_o we_o shall_v get_v much_o by_o now_o though_o it_o be_v true_a we_o shall_v labour_n to_o be_v above_o ourselves_o as_o much_o as_o may_v be_v we_o shall_v labour_n to_o deny_v ourselves_o in_o some_o sense_n yet_o not_o so_o but_o that_o we_o be_v to_o look_v at_o our_o own_o good_a even_o in_o our_o come_n unto_o jesus_n christ_n
