the_o order_n of_o priesthood_n as_o they_o call_v it_o we_o therefore_o think_v that_o in_o subscribe_v hereunto_o we_o shall_v offend_v the_o holy_a canon_n of_o scripture_n and_o allow_v that_o which_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o same_o book_n by_o our_o subscription_n now_o for_o the_o remove_n of_o this_o scruple_n which_o remain_v in_o the_o mind_n of_o many_o i_o fear_v at_o this_o day_n and_o that_o very_a much_o increase_v since_o his_o time_n i_o shall_v make_v bold_a to_o weigh_v this_o general_a argument_n here_o bring_v against_o subscription_n viz._n that_o the_o deacon_n who_o 2._o now_o though_o it_o be_v a_o truth_n in_o general_a yet_o no_o general_a truth_n that_o to_o do_v or_o to_o allow_v of_o that_o which_o have_v no_o description_n or_o prescription_n in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n that_o be_v without_o a_o command_n from_o god_n be_v a_o sin_n which_o be_v as_o you_o may_v observe_v mr._n nicholls_n argument_n against_o deacon_n yet_o this_o truth_n take_v command_n by_o god_n in_o his_o word_n be_v a_o principal_a pillar_n of_o nonconformity_n in_o bishop_n hoopers_n time_n and_o in_o mr._n nicholls_n time_n and_o probable_o begin_v the_o trouble_n at_o frankfort_n be_v also_o the_o anabaptist_n great_a argument_n against_o baptise_v infant_n and_o the_o original_n of_o the_o quaker_n sad_a delusion_n that_o will_v therefore_o wear_v no_o lace_n or_o hatband_n etc._n etc._n because_o not_o command_v in_o the_o word_n and_o be_v
now_o if_o upon_o a_o serious_a search_n into_o god_n bless_a book_n we_o find_v no_o command_n of_o christ_n forbid_v the_o command_n of_o our_o superior_n in_o my_o poor_a apprehension_n the_o conscience_n be_v set_v at_o liberty_n from_o doubt_n fear_n and_o scruple_n and_o the_o more_o evidence_n we_o have_v thereof_o the_o more_o persuasion_n but_o some_o you_o may_v observe_v from_o mr._n randall_n be_v necessary_a and_o thus_o now_o have_v presume_v to_o show_v how_o in_o my_o weak_a judgement_n this_o four_o direction_n of_o he_o may_v be_v practicable_a i_o shall_v proceed_v invention_n in_o god_n worship_n among_o which_o the_o thing_n before_o speak_v to_o have_v be_v baptize_v into_o that_o name_n because_o reducible_a to_o no_o command_n so_o the_o way_n to_o strengthen_v they_o be_v for_o such_o minister_n who_o have_v not_o be_v clear_a in_o their_o expression_n and_o who_o ministry_n have_v a_o command_n of_o their_o conscience_n and_o affection_n in_o other_o substantial_a truth_n plain_o to_o instruct_v they_o and_o inform_v they_o in_o the_o nature_n of_o these_o thing_n to_o which_o they_o conform_v and_o yield_v obedience_n sect._n 9_o i_o say_v do_v such_o minister_n who_o zealous_o in_o their_o preach_n set_v forth_o the_o excellency_n and_o necessity_n of_o christ_n of_o holiness_n and_o regeneration_n and_o of_o the_o sinfulness_n of_o sin_n with_o the_o like_a faithfulness_n present_v their_o hearer_n with_o the_o sinfulness_n of_o the_o sin_n of_o disobedience_n to_o the_o command_n of_o our_o superior_n in_o matter_n not_o simple_o unlawful_a faithful_o show_v they_o that_o the_o best_a way_n for_o to_o make_v these_o thing_n not_o simple_o unlawful_a in_o themselves_o not_o to_o be_v so_o to_o they_o be_v to_o rectify_v their_o judgement_n and_o persuade_v their_o conscience_n as_o aforesaid_a and_o also_o that_o the_o only_a cure_n for_o our_o contention_n about_o these_o lesser_a thing_n be_v to_o mind_v the_o substantial_o of_o christ_n kingdom_n indeed_o rom._n 14._o direct_v they_o to_o proportion_v their_o zeal_n more_o about_o these_o thing_n than_o these_o poor_a circumstantial_a matter_n in_o difference_n sect_n 10._o i_o do_v very_o believe_v that_o do_v such_o minister_n who_o be_v holy_a and_o unblameable_a in_o their_o life_n and_o powerful_a in_o their_o preach_n but_o make_v these_o general_a term_n declaim_v against_o superstitious_a invention_n of_o man_n and_o addition_n to_o god_n worship_n etc._n etc._n there_o will_v be_v great_a hope_n through_o god_n blessing_n upon_o on_o this_o mean_n that_o those_o who_o now_o speak_v evil_a of_o those_o thing_n which_o they_o understand_v not_o that_o can_v say_v as_o the_o apostle_n paul_n in_o the_o like_a case_n rom._n 14._o i_o know_v and_o be_o persuade_v but_o they_o be_v persuade_v against_o indifferent_a thing_n as_o sinful_a though_o they_o have_v no_o clear_a and_o distinct_a knowledge_n of_o the_o nature_n of_o these_o thing_n and_o therefore_o be_v but_o weak_a in_o knowledge_n whatever_o they_o may_v think_v of_o themselves_o they_o will_v by_o this_o mean_n come_v to_o be_v enlighten_v to_o be_v better_o inform_v to_o understand_v their_o christian_n liberty_n and_o so_o the_o ground_n of_o their_o offence_n and_o scandal_n through_o their_o weakness_n will_v be_v take_v away_o sect._n 11._o and_o in_o order_n to_o this_o if_o i_o mistake_v not_o what_o the_o law_n of_o the_o land_n now_o require_v every_o lecturer_n to_o do_v the_o first_o time_n he_o preach_v before_o sermon_n and_o also_o
