preacher_n of_o it_o from_o whence_o it_o clear_o appear_v that_o the_o faith_n or_o belief_n which_o he_o so_o much_o magnify_v
the_o word_n faith_n and_o work_n in_o that_o sense_n which_o be_v most_o natural_a and_o obvious_a in_o that_o sense_n wherein_o common_a reader_n be_v most_o like_a to_o understand_v they_o whereas_o saint_n paul_n epistle_n i_o mean_v those_o wherein_o he_o handle_v this_o same_o subject_a be_v write_v with_o another_o design_n as_o i_o shall_v show_v hereafter_o it_o may_v well_o be_v suppose_v that_o he_o have_v in_o his_o write_v they_o a_o eye_n to_o his_o main_a design_n which_o be_v to_o show_v the_o necessity_n of_o embrace_v the_o christian_a faith_n and_o the_o no_o obligation_n that_o lie_v upon_o christian_n from_o the_o ceremonial_a law_n of_o moses_n be_v more_o careless_a in_o his_o other_o expression_n as_o not_o fear_v that_o any_o person_n instruct_v in_o paul_n wherein_o he_o so_o much_o magnify_v faith_n and_o decry_n work_n in_o any_o other_o sense_n than_o what_o saint_n james_n here_o plain_o teach_v without_o make_v those_o passage_n in_o st._n to_o believe_v and_o assert_v the_o indispensible_a necessity_n of_o a_o holy_a life_n together_o with_o a_o othordox_n belief_n rather_o than_o upon_o they_o alone_o to_o ground_n the_o doctrine_n of_o st._n paul_n especial_o where_o he_o handle_v controversy_n be_v the_o hard_a to_o be_v understand_v except_o perhaps_o the_o prophecy_n that_o be_v not_o yet_o accomplish_v of_o any_o part_n of_o the_o new_a testament_n and_o on_o the_o other_o side_n it_o be_v no_o less_o obvious_a to_o be_v observe_v that_o the_o epistle_n of_o st._n james_n and_o this_o chapter_n of_o it_o in_o particular_a be_v to_o appearance_n very_o plain_a and_o clear_a and_o that_o both_o in_o the_o conclusion_n which_o it_o lay_v down_o viz._n that_o we_o be_v justify_v by_o work_n and_o not_o by_o faith_n only_o and_o also_o in_o the_o argument_n whereby_o this_o conclusion_n be_v make_v good_a from_o the_o 14_o verse_n of_o this_o chapter_n to_o the_o end_n now_o if_o the_o case_n be_v thus_o as_o it_o plain_o seem_v to_o be_v nothing_o can_v be_v more_o unreasonable_a than_o to_o interpret_v this_o place_n of_o st._n james_n by_o those_o of_o st._n paul_n that_o be_v a_o plain_a place_n by_o a_o obscure_a one_o and_o on_o the_o other_o side_n nothing_o can_v be_v fair_a than_o when_o we_o meet_v with_o any_o crabbed_a or_o difficult_a place_n in_o any_o autho_n to_o see_v whether_o his_o meaning_n be_v not_o elsewhere_o express_v more_o clear_o and_o if_o it_o be_v to_o conclude_v that_o the_o intricate_a place_n have_v the_o same_o meaning_n with_o the_o plain_a one_o although_o we_o know_v not_o how_o well_o to_o reconcile_v the_o word_n and_o phrase_n thereof_o to_o it_o and_o this_o be_v the_o case_n here_o for_o though_o st._n paul_n and_o st._n james_n be_v different_a writer_n yet_o the_o author_n of_o both_o their_o epistle_n be_v the_o same_o viz._n the_o holy_a spirit_n of_o god_n by_o who_o inspiration_n they_o both_o write_v their_o write_n be_v consequent_o both_o of_o they_o part_n of_o that_o one_o everlasting_a gospel_n by_o which_o god_n will_v judge_v the_o world_n and_o they_o do_v both_o of_o they_o contain_v only_o in_o different_a expression_n the_o article_n of_o the_o same_o covenant_n between_o god_n and_o we_o it_o be_v reasonable_a therefore_o in_o this_o case_n to_o observe_v the_o same_o method_n that_o we_o do_v in_o other_o the_o like_a case_n viz._n to_o put_v such_o a_o sense_n and_o interpretation_n on_o any_o difficult_a or_o ambiguous_a passage_n that_o we_o meet_v with_o any_o where_o therein_o as_o to_o
