our_o body_n and_o mind_n by_o excess_n and_o abuse_n so_o we_o ought_v not_o also_o to_o take_v so_o little_a pleasure_n therein_o as_o to_o hinder_v the_o welfare_n thereof_o through_o defect_n in_o such_o sort_n as_o we_o must_v not_o disallow_v and_o reprove_v natural_a and_o convenient_a pleasure_n as_o we_o do_v those_o which_o be_v impious_a vicious_a and_o superfluous_a but_o rather_o great_o commend_v the_o same_o for_o as_o much_o as_o that_o reasonable_a means_n may_v be_v observe_v therein_o which_o be_v good_a and_o commendable_a in_o all_o thing_n and_o so_o without_o question_n that_o delectation_n which_o proceed_v from_o the_o temperate_a and_o good_a use_n of_o pleasure_n be_v to_o be_v enjoy_v free_o and_o cheerful_o and_o it_o be_v also_o reason_n that_o the_o mind_n shall_v partake_v with_o the_o body_n of_o such_o natural_a pleasure_n which_o be_v just_a good_a and_o convenient_a these_o two_o the_o body_n and_o the_o mind_n be_v as_o it_o be_v its_o ligament_n wherefore_o they_o be_v to_o be_v preserve_v and_o moderate_v not_o take_v away_o and_o utter_o destroy_v we_o be_v to_o imitate_v in_o this_o a_o well_o experience_a horsman_n who_o for_o to_o tame_v and_o manage_v well_o his_o horse_n will_v not_o take_v from_o he_o agility_n and_o courage_n but_o endeavour_n especial_o to_o bring_v he_o to_o run_v to_o turn_v to_o rise_v to_o curvet_v and_o to_o stand_v how_o and_o when_o it_o please_v he_o and_o not_o according_a to_o the_o horse_n will_v even_o so_o when_o we_o perceive_v our_o affection_n incline_v to_o stubborn_a disobedience_n we_o ought_v rather_o to_o correct_v and_o reform_v the_o same_o with_o reason_n and_o judgement_n then_o whole_o to_o mortify_v and_o extinguish_v they_o and_o although_o the_o and_o bright_a crown_n in_o heaven_n the_o abstract_n of_o the_o sixth_o section_n although_o it_o be_v certain_a that_o terrestrial_a treasure_n honour_n and_o greatness_n also_o earthly_a pleasure_n do_v great_o tempt_v we_o unto_o covetousness_n ambition_n all_o intemperate_a viciousness_n yet_o in_o good_a use_n thereof_o we_o free_o may_v the_o great_a pleasure_n thereof_o still_o enjoy_v when_o our_o affection_n unto_o ill_a incline_v we_o ought_v with_o reason_n and_o with_o grace_n divine_a such_o ill_a desire_n to_o conquer_v and_o to_o quell_v it_o be_v more_o praise_n and_o glory_n to_o do_v well_o in_o midst_n of_o great_a â—_z then_o to_o be_v otherwise_o good_a for_o mere_a necessity_n and_o as_o the_o danger_n be_v great_a we_o shall_v be_v the_o more_o reward_v for_o such_o victory_n whereas_o to_o sequester_v ourselves_o for_o fear_n into_o a_o monastery_n or_o forbear_v thing_n lawful_a as_o expeâ—ient_a recreation_n which_o may_v and_z ought_v with_o moderate_a delectation_n be_v use_v because_o of_o danger_n do_v proceed_v out_o of_o a_o weak_a distrustful_a mind_n indeed_o but_o for_o a_o man_n to_o know_v the_o high_a joy_n the_o world_n afford_v and_o yet_o without_o annoy_n to_o live_v therein_o and_o as_o a_o master_n use_v the_o same_o in_o all_o respect_n without_o abuse_n and_o can_v even_o as_o he_o listen_v the_o world_n compel_v unto_o his_o service_n and_o even_o then_o do_v well_o in_o midst_n of_o great_a temptation_n sure_o he_o in_o heaven_n with_o bright_a glory_n crown_v shall_v be_v the_o seven_o section_n we_o may_v enjoy_v earthly_a felicity_n notwithstanding_o their_o impement_n etc._n etc._n such_o man_n as_o object_n against_o the_o free_a and_o cheerful_a enjoyance_n of_o earthly_a felicity_n do_v true_o tell_v we_o that_o the_o enjoyance_n and_o use_n of_o earthly_a happiness_n do_v often_o hinder_v we_o in_o the_o attainment_n and_o also_o enjoyment_n of_o supernatural_a and_o heavenly_a thing_n but_o we_o may_v also_o true_o answer_v &_o be_v to_o know_v that_o it_o be_v indeed_o only_a the_o abuse_n of_o these_o pleasure_n and_o felicity_n that_o hinder_v we_o therein_o otherwise_o in_o their_o good_a use_n they_o may_v serve_v as_o spectacle_n to_o seethe_v by_o the_o more_o clear_o into_o heaven_n and_o may_v further_o we_o in_o all_o good_a heavenly_a way_n they_o may_v stir_v we_o up_o to_o thankfulness_n and_o to_o all_o duty_n of_o piety_n increase_v our_o love_n to_o god_n and_o joy_n in_o he_o they_o may_v be_v notable_a encouragement_n to_o do_v more_o worthy_o and_o to_o go_v on_o more_o cheerful_o in_o the_o way_n of_o god_n and_o in_o such_o good_a use_n they_o may_v be_v sweet_a and_o pleasant_a addition_n to_o our_o hope_n of_o heaven_n and_o by_o view_v and_o enjoy_v these_o we_o may_v look_v high_o to_o their_o fountain_n contemplate_v the_o excellency_n sweetness_n and_o beauty_n of_o the_o creator_n who_o be_v infinite_o more_o excel_a and_o so_o in_o some_o measure_n espy_v and_o enjoy_v the_o felicity_n of_o heaven_n also_o while_o we_o be_v on_o earth_n but_o of_o this_o more_o at_o large_a in_o the_o next_o section_n and_o therefore_o in_o their_o good_a use_n we_o may_v enjoy_v they_o free_o and_o cheerful_o but_o such_o as_o will_v maintain_v the_o contrary_a do_v further_a object_n to_o this_o purpose_n more_o particular_o the_o most_o material_a objection_n i_o shall_v endeavour_v to_o collect_v brief_o and_o so_o to_o answer_v they_o they_o true_o tell_v we_o first_o that_o abstinence_n and_o forbearance_n of_o pleasure_n do_v best_a fit_a and_o prepare_v the_o mind_n for_o the_o well_o performance_n of_o all_o divine_a exercise_n and_o contemplation_n second_o that_o many_o ill_a man_n possess_v and_o enjoy_v these_o e_z rthly_a felicity_n and_o many_o good_a man_n want_v they_o which_o show_v say_v they_o the_o same_o be_v hindrance_n in_o goodness_n three_o that_o our_o saviour_n say_v it_o be_v hard_a for_o a_o rich_a man_n to_o enter_v into_o heaven_n and_o saint_n paul_n not_o many_o mighty_a not_o many_o noble_a be_v call_v and_o that_o the_o mourner_n the_o meek_a and_o deject_a spirit_n be_v rather_o pronounce_v bless_v in_o god_n word_n then_o voluptuous_a man_n all_o which_o i_o shall_v endeavour_v to_o answer_v brief_o concern_v the_o first_o that_o fast_v and_o forbearance_n of_o pleasure_n fit_n and_o prepare_v the_o mind_n for_o divine_a exercise_n it_o be_v most_o true_a and_o it_o be_v very_o requisite_a and_o good_a that_o we_o fast_o pray_v repent_v be_v abstemious_a and_o exercise_v ourselves_o in_o all_o christian_a duty_n so_o far_o as_o we_o may_v convenient_o without_o superstition_n as_o we_o be_v exhort_v thereunto_o and_o god_n forbid_v that_o i_o shall_v be_v guilty_a of_o speak_v against_o due_a and_o convenient_a fast_v abstinence_n and_o therein_o retiredness_n from_o pleasure_n of_o the_o world_n to_o divine_a contemplation_n which_o at_o due_a and_o convenient_a time_n be_v certain_o most_o please_a to_o god_n and_o very_o beneficial_a both_o to_o body_n and_o mind_n disburthen_v the_o same_o of_o many_o gross_a humour_n vapour_n and_o spirit_n and_o so_o take_v away_o sloth_n dulness_n many_o distemper_n &_o make_v our_o mind_n as_o far_o as_o be_v possible_a in_o this_o world_n like_o angel_n most_o free_a quick_a
