man_n must_v profess_v the_o truth_n at_o their_o first_o conversion_n before_o they_o have_v either_o a_o historical_a or_o save_a faith_n 3_o in_o their_o own_o word_n they_o expound_v what_o profession_n they_o mean_v viz._n not_o only_o in_o word_n but_o in_o life_n and_o conversation_n accompany_v with_o a_o inward_a change_n now_o hereby_o they_o confound_v repentance_n and_o acknowledge_v the_o truth_n which_o be_v different_a for_o the_o one_o be_v a_o mean_n to_o the_o other_o whatsoever_o be_v mean_v by_o they_o for_o what_o be_v repentance_n in_o their_o judgement_n but_o a_o outward_a and_o inward_a change_n of_o soul_n and_o body_n of_o word_n and_o work_n the_o trial_n repentance_n be_v begin_v before_o faith_n in_o christ_n arment_n the_o three_o arment_n because_o man_n can_v believe_v in_o christ_n as_o long_o as_o they_o live_v in_o their_o sin_n joa._n 5.44_o the_o exception_n this_o argument_n they_o say_v prove_v not_o the_o question_n for_o it_o only_o prove_v that_o a_o man_n must_v repent_v of_o his_o sin_n as_o soon_o as_o he_o believe_v in_o christ_n and_o not_o that_o he_o must_v repent_v before_o he_o believe_v the_o apology_n to_o this_o i_o say_v that_o have_v i_o intend_v to_o prove_v a_o precedency_n of_o repentance_n unto_o faith_n in_o christ_n some_o space_n of_o time_n then_o i_o confess_v this_o answer_n have_v be_v sufficient_a to_o that_o argument_n because_o as_o it_o be_v propound_v it_o prove_v no_o more_o but_o forasmuch_o as_o my_o purpose_n be_v not_o so_o much_o but_o less_o viz._n a_o precedency_n in_o nature_n only_o therefore_o be_v not_o the_o answer_n to_o purpose_n and_o consequent_o for_o all_o that_o it_o be_v sound_a and_o good_a for_o two_o thing_n may_v be_v in_o time_n as_o soon_o one_o as_o another_o and_o yet_o in_o nature_n the_o one_o may_v go_v before_o the_o other_o as_o fire_n and_o heat_n a_o father_n and_o a_o child_n else_o how_o can_v they_o with_o any_o colour_n hold_v faith_n and_o repentance_n to_o be_v together_o in_o time_n and_o yet_o faith_n to_o go_v before_o it_o in_o nature_n and_o in_o order_n of_o cause_n though_o my_o argument_n be_v good_a as_o it_o be_v in_o the_o treatise_n for_o all_o that_o which_o they_o have_v answer_v unto_o it_o yet_o as_o i_o shall_v now_o propound_v it_o it_o shall_v be_v more_o strong_a if_o live_v in_o sin_n go_v before_o not_o believe_v in_o christ_n as_o a_o cause_n and_o mean_n thereof_o then_o repent_v of_o sin_n go_v before_o believe_v in_o christ_n as_o a_o cause_n and_o mean_n thereof_o but_o the_o first_o be_v true_a therefore_o the_o second_o the_o consequence_n be_v good_a because_o to_o live_v in_o sin_n and_o to_o repent_v be_v contrary_a so_o be_v not_o to_o believe_v in_o christ_n and_o to_o believe_v in_o he_o so_o that_o if_o unrepentance_n impenitency_n or_o live_v in_o sin_n be_v a_o mean_n and_o cause_n of_o not_o believe_v and_o to_o be_v a_o
