any_o thing_n suppose_v god_n shall_v not_o be_v angry_a though_o thou_o shall_v not_o pray_v to_o he_o or_o hear_v a_o sermon_n or_o read_v a_o chapter_n in_o the_o bible_n any_o more_o than_o once_o a_o year_n but_o he_o shall_v withal_o give_v thou_o leave_v to_o spend_v as_o much_o time_n in_o these_o duty_n as_o thou_o will_v i_o say_v if_o god_n will_v be_v content_a will_v thou_o be_v of_o holiness_n to_o give_v god_n the_o glory_n of_o his_o love_n while_o he_o be_v scourge_v of_o thou_o with_o scorpion_n than_o to_o give_v god_n the_o honour_n of_o his_o excellency_n when_o he_o be_v crown_v we_o with_o glory_n there_o be_v two_o kind_n of_o attribute_n that_o the_o people_n of_o god_n do_v use_v when_o they_o pray_v to_o god_n either_o such_o attribute_n as_o be_v most_o for_o the_o strengthen_n of_o their_o faith_n for_o the_o obtain_n of_o that_o which_o they_o pray_v for_o or_o such_o as_o may_v as_o it_o be_v

be_v the_o true_a reason_n why_o so_o few_o believe_v the_o scripture_n assure_v myself_o that_o if_o they_o do_v firm_o believe_v it_o be_v impossible_a that_o their_o life_n shall_v be_v so_o contrary_a to_o it_o for_o although_o as_o i_o have_v say_v conviction_n do_v not_o necessary_o work_v conversion_n yet_o it_o will_v work_v reformation_n or_o at_o least_o it_o will_v not_o suffer_v they_o to_o go_v on_o with_o so_o little_a fear_n and_o dread_n upon_o their_o spirit_n as_o they_o do_v now_o though_o divers_a pretend_v that_o it_o be_v because_o divers_a speculative_a truth_n that_o be_v set_v down_o in_o the_o scripture_n be_v so_o contrary_a to_o or_o at_o least_o above_o their_o reason_n that_o they_o can_v assent_v to_o they_o yet_o i_o be_o very_o confident_a that_o it_o be_v the_o practical_a truth_n of_o the_o scripture_n that_o they_o stop_v at_o which_o they_o be_v loath_a to_o obey_v they_o be_v fain_o to_o pretend_v or_o by_o the_o just_a judgement_n of_o god_n they_o be_v disenabled_n to_o believe_v those_o truth_n that_o be_v more_o speculative_a that_o this_o be_v the_o reason_n seem_v to_o i_o evident_a because_o that_o they_o can_v but_o confess_v if_o not_o all_o most_o of_o the_o practical_o of_o the_o scripture_n not_o to_o be_v against_o nor_o above_o reason_n but_o such_o as_o whosoever_o shall_v obey_v and_o live_v according_a to_o they_o that_o their_o very_a enemy_n can_v but_o approve_v of_o their_o life_n and_o this_o be_v it_o that_o make_v the_o christian_n both_o in_o respect_n of_o their_o charity_n and_o love_v one_o among_o another_o and_o to_o their_o enemy_n to_o be_v admire_v and_o commend_v even_o by_o their_o persecutor_n among_o who_o they_o live_v the_o very_a heathen_a can_v see_v a_o beauty_n in_o holiness_n therefore_o since_o the_o glorious_a light_n and_o lustre_n of_o the_o holiness_n of_o the_o command_n of_o god_n in_o scripture_n be_v so_o clear_a that_o man_n can_v but_o be_v convince_v and_o truth_n be_v be_v that_o he_o will_v order_v matter_n so_o that_o those_o that_o be_v of_o corrupt_a mind_n may_v find_v some_o pretence_n for_o not_o believe_v of_o they_o for_o to_o such_o people_n god_n may_v just_o send_v strong_a delusion_n and_o it_o may_v be_v it_o be_v much_o better_o even_o for_o the_o people_n of_o god_n that_o all_o wicked_a man_n be_v not_o full_o convince_v of_o divine_a truth_n for_o that_o will_v make_v they_o much_o more_o outrageous_a and_o malicious_a for_o those_o who_o the_o truth_n of_o god_n convince_v but_o not_o convert_v they_o do_v enrage_v as_o they_o do_v satan_n who_o believe_v and_o as_o it_o do_v those_o who_o commit_v the_o sin_n against_o the_o holy_a ghost_n who_o hate_v the_o truth_n they_o know_v be_v the_o great_a and_o most_o malicious_a persecutor_n nay_o and_o indeed_o it_o be_v a_o mercy_n in_o some_o kind_n even_o to_o the_o wicked_a also_o for_o it_o be_v better_a that_o they_o shall_v not_o know_v the_o truth_n of_o god_n since_o if_o they_o do_v know_v they_o they_o will_v not_o obey_v they_o therefore_o if_o thou_o will_v believe_v obey_v that_o be_v if_o thou_o will_v believe_v the_o mysterious_a truth_n of_o the_o gospel_n obey_v the_o holy_a command_n of_o the_o gospel_n do_v what_o thou_o know_v and_o thou_o shall_v know_v what_o as_o yet_o thou_o be_v ignorant_a of_o i_o have_v also_o consider_v with_o myself_o what_o truth_n be_v the_o most_o difficult_a to_o believe_v and_o to_o i_o it_o seem_v that_o to_o believe_v that_o god_n have_v give_v his_o only_a belove_a son_n to_o die_v for_o sinner_n no_o hand_n in_o our_o regeneration_n and_o our_o own_o good_a work_n in_o our_o glorification_n by_o way_n of_o merit_n the_o pride_n of_o man_n will_v not_o stoop_v to_o and_o then_o second_o it_o be_v utter_o against_o humane_a reason_n partly_o because_o we_o think_v with_o ourselves_o that_o god_n may_v have_v forgive_v we_o our_o sin_n without_o so_o much_o ado_n as_o to_o have_v his_o own_o son_n suffer_v so_o much_o for_o we_o but_o we_o little_o consider_v that_o we_o many_o time_n do_v many_o thing_n ourselves_o with_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o trouble_n out_o of_o love_n which_o may_v be_v do_v as_o well_o without_o we_o so_o the_o mother_n nurse_v she_o own_o child_n and_o dress_v it_o and_o do_v many_o other_o thing_n which_o she_o may_v have_v do_v by_o other_o as_o effectual_o though_o she_o be_v only_o a_o spectator_n and_o further_o we_o must_v understand_v that_o there_o be_v two_o special_a reason_n why_o god_n give_v his_o son_n and_o christ_n give_v himself_o to_o die_v for_o we_o chief_o to_o satisfy_v his_o justice_n as_o also_o to_o satisfy_v we_o of_o his_o love_n and_o it_o be_v not_o easy_a to_o say_v which_o be_v hard_a to_o be_v satisfy_v for_o it_o be_v true_a that_o he_o that_o injure_v forgive_v not_o we_o therefore_o have_v so_o much_o offend_v god_n can_v hardly_o forgive_v he_o that_o be_v believe_v that_o he_o will_v forgive_v we_o he_o therefore_o to_o satisfy_v and_o cure_v our_o infidelity_n give_v we_o his_o only_a son_n to_o die_v for_o we_o to_o give_v we_o a_o infallible_a testimony_n of_o his_o love_n the_o suffering_n of_o christ_n do_v satisfy_v the_o justice_n of_o god_n by_o way_n of_o merit_n and_o our_o infidelity_n by_o way_n of_o motive_n the_o suffering_n of_o christ_n do_v reconcile_v god_n to_o we_o and_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n do_v reconcile_v we_o to_o god_n it_o be_v necessary_a that_o he_o that_o satisfy_v god_n justice_n shall_v be_v god_n and_o it_o be_v as_o necessary_a that_o he_o that_o satisfy_v we_o of_o god_n love_n shall_v be_v god_n also_o another_o thing_n that_o hinder_v our_o belief_n of_o this_o mystery_n be_v because_o the_o goodness_n and_o love_n of_o god_n be_v so_o exceed_v great_a that_o we_o can_v believe_v it_o for_o we_o be_v subject_a to_o judge_v of_o god_n by_o ourselves_o and_o therefore_o because_o we_o shall_v never_o suffer_v our_o only_a belove_a child_n to_o die_v a_o miserable_a shameful_a death_n to_o save_v a_o enemy_n therefore_o we_o judge_v that_o god_n can_v do_v so_o neither_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o the_o more_o patient_a meek_a long-suffering_a we_o grow_v by_o the_o grace_n and_o spirit_n of_o god_n the_o more_o easy_o do_v we_o believe_v his_o love_n to_o we_o but_o if_o we_o true_o consider_v that_o which_o make_v this_o mystery_n of_o love_n incredible_a shall_v make_v we_o believe_v it_o viz._n the_o greatness_n of_o it_o for_o since_o god_n have_v say_v in_o his_o word_n that_o herein_o
bear_v as_o jethro_n tell_v moses_n and_o as_o after_o some_o few_o year_n pupillage_n and_o subjection_n to_o a_o tutor_n at_o the_o university_n student_n be_v leave_v to_o study_v by_o themselves_o and_o be_v tutor_n to_o other_o so_o private_a christian_n shall_v be_v so_o long_o instruct_v until_o they_o be_v make_v fit_a to_o teach_v other_o and_o then_o save_v in_o some_o weighty_a case_n and_o difficulty_n they_o need_v not_o further_a direction_n from_o man_n 2._o it_o be_v to_o be_v caution_v that_o i_o do_v not_o mean_v that_o any_o one_o shall_v be_v total_o subject_a to_o the_o advice_n of_o the_o minister_n who_o they_o choose_v but_o in_o any_o thing_n wherein_o they_o do_v but_o doubt_v of_o the_o sinfulness_n of_o it_o they_o be_v to_o inquire_v of_o other_o minister_n 3._o nor_o do_v i_o intend_v that_o in_o every_o slight_a occasion_n that_o they_o with_o ordinary_a diligence_n may_v satisfy_v themselves_o in_o that_o they_o shall_v go_v to_o be_v resolve_v of_o the_o minister_n as_o we_o do_v not_o use_v to_o go_v to_o the_o physician_n for_o a_o scratch_n with_o a_o pin_n or_o every_o inconsiderable_a matter_n but_o what_o we_o can_v cure_v ourselves_o or_o be_v of_o little_a consequence_n we_o trouble_v they_o not_o with_o 4_o nor_o do_v i_o think_v a_o minister_n be_v bind_v to_o receive_v all_o that_o come_v to_o he_o upon_o this_o account_n for_o he_o be_v to_o receive_v no_o more_o than_o he_o can_v well_o instruct_v and_o direct_v this_o way_n and_o so_o also_o that_o he_o may_v not_o be_v hinder_v in_o the_o public_a office_n of_o his_o ministry_n 5._o that_o every_o one_o be_v rather_o to_o choose_v his_o own_o pastor_n if_o he_o be_v right_o qualify_v than_o another_o and_o if_o he_o shall_v not_o be_v in_o respect_n of_o discretion_n and_o experience_n etc._n etc._n fit_a to_o be_v choose_v for_o a_o director_n yet_o we_o be_v not_o therefore_o to_o leave_v his_o ministry_n i_o know_v people_n will_v be_v ready_a to_o say_v what_o do_v you_o make_v child_n of_o we_o to_o put_v we_o to_o school_v i_o answer_v 1._o why_o do_v you_o by_o put_v odious_a term_n and_o expression_n upon_o it_o make_v it_o hateful_a and_o then_o dislike_v it_o for_o the_o term_n you_o yourself_o have_v put_v upon_o it_o why_o may_v you_o not_o as_o well_o say_v why_o do_v you_o endeavour_v by_o all_o your_o prudence_n and_o industry_n to_o bring_v we_o to_o heaven_n the_o question_n may_v be_v better_o ask_v in_o those_o term_n and_o expression_n than_o in_o you_o you_o call_v good_a evil_a and_o then_o you_o hate_v it_o because_o you_o call_v it_o so_o 2._o i_o do_v not_o intend_v that_o all_o shall_v be_v use_v as_o child_n if_o you_o call_v it_o so_o except_o you_o be_v child_n in_o knowledge_n and_o then_o in_o some_o respect_n it_o be_v necessary_a that_o you_o shall_v be_v use_v as_o child_n if_o a_o man_n will_v go_v to_o learn_v to_o write_v he_o must_v learn_v his_o letter_n as_o a_o child_n do_v as_o in_o music_n and_o all_o other_o art_n the_o method_n be_v much_o alike_o to_o child_n and_o man_n but_o for_o those_o who_o be_v already_o ground_v in_o religion_n and_o be_v know_v christian_n let_v they_o be_v willing_a to_o teach_v other_o 3._o why_o do_v not_o you_o say_v thus_o to_o lawyer_n and_o physician_n when_o they_o examine_v you_o concern_v your_o health_n or_o estate_n and_o say_v why_o do_v you_o catechise_v we_o as_o if_o we_o be_v child_n it_o be_v a_o sad_a thing_n that_o people_n study_v way_n to_o make_v the_o endeavour_n of_o the_o minister_n odious_a to_o they_o 4._o if_o a_o physician_n live_v near_o you_o and_o shall_v offer_v that_o whensoever_o you_o or_o any_o of_o your_o family_n be_v sick_a if_o you_o will_v come_v to_o he_o he_o will_v give_v you_o his_o advice_n free_o will_v you_o say_v to_o he_o what_o need_v you_o trouble_v yourself_o with_o i_o or_o my_o family_n we_o can_v look_v well_o enough_o to_o our_o own_o health_n without_o trouble_v of_o you_o 5._o we_o be_v far_o from_o desire_v or_o judgeing_a it_o fit_v that_o you_o shall_v be_v subject_a to_o we_o as_o child_n be_v to_o their_o parent_n or_o master_n for_o we_o require_v it_o at_o your_o hand_n that_o you_o shall_v search_v the_o scripture_n and_o try_v whether_o the_o thing_n that_o we_o preach_v be_v according_a to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n or_o no_o only_o let_v it_o be_v do_v with_o meekness_n humility_n and_o desire_v that_o you_o may_v know_v the_o truth_n of_o god_n that_o you_o may_v practice_v they_o and_o therefore_o i_o will_v conclude_v all_o with_o set_v down_o some_o plain_n gradual_a proposition_n and_o consider_v what_o be_v say_v and_o the_o lord_n give_v you_o understanding_n in_o all_o thing_n 1._o all_o be_v bind_v to_o accept_v the_o tender_a of_o ministerial_a advice_n and_o instruction_n not_o only_o public_o but_o from_o house_n to_o house_n for_o though_o some_o think_v it_o not_o necessary_a for_o a_o minister_n to_o go_v to_o every_o particular_a person_n in_o the_o parish_n where_o god_n have_v place_v he_o yet_o i_o know_v no_o one_o but_o hold_v it_o a_o sin_n in_o any_o one_o that_o shall_v slight_v the_o private_a instruction_n and_o advice_n of_o minister_n and_o refuse_v to_o have_v conference_n with_o they_o when_o they_o shall_v give_v they_o a_o christian_a visit_n to_o speak_v with_o they_o about_o the_o thing_n of_o god_n 2._o that_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o for_o they_o to_o give_v the_o minister_n the_o hear_n and_o neither_o care_n to_o remember_v nor_o practice_v his_o private_a as_o well_o as_o public_a spiritual_a direction_n that_o be_v ground_v on_o the_o word_n of_o god_n 3._o every_o christian_a be_v bind_v in_o doubtful_a and_o difficult_a case_n to_o seek_v their_o advice_n if_o by_o their_o own_o prayer_n and_o consideration_n they_o can_v be_v satisfy_v 4._o that_o they_o be_v not_o light_o to_o reject_v their_o advice_n but_o to_o observe_v and_o follow_v it_o if_o they_o do_v not_o in_o their_o conscience_n think_v that_o it_o be_v in_o the_o least_o contrary_a to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n nor_o any_o way_n prejudicial_a to_o any_o thing_n but_o their_o laziness_n or_o some_o carnal_a respect_n 5._o i_o question_v not_o but_o god_n have_v make_v a_o difference_n between_o private_a christian_n and_o minister_n in_o this_o case_n i_o mean_v thus_o that_o one_o private_a christian_a have_v not_o the_o same_o obligation_n to_o ask_v or_o follow_v the_o advice_n of_o another_o private_a christian_a as_o of_o the_o minister_n i_o shall_v offer_v only_o these_o place_n of_o scripture_n for_o you_o to_o consider_v of_o which_o i_o doubt_v not_o except_o there_o be_v some_o strong_a by_o as_o of_o prejudice_n upon_o your_o spirit_n will_v easy_o prove_v this_o to_o you_o 1_o cor._n 16.15.16_o i_o beseech_v you_o brethren_n you_o know_v the_o house_n of_o stephanas_n that_o it_o be_v the_o first_o fruit_n of_o achaia_n and_o that_o they_o have_v addict_v themselves_o unto_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o saint_n that_o you_o submit_v yourselves_o unto_o such_o and_o to_o every_o one_o that_o help_v with_o we_o and_o labour_v heb._n 13.17_o obey_v they_o that_o have_v the_o rule_n over_o you_o and_o submit_v yourselves_o for_o they_o watch_v for_o your_o soul_n as_o they_o that_o must_v give_v account_n that_o they_o may_v do_v it_o with_o joy_n and_o physician_n as_o except_o you_o can_v prove_v it_o to_o be_v a_o sin_n the_o sick_a man_n will_v send_v for_o a_o physician_n so_o though_o it_o can_v not_o be_v prove_v a_o absolute_a duty_n if_o apparent_o it_o be_v no_o sin_n a_o humble_a saint_n that_o desire_v to_o use_v all_o profitable_a mean_n for_o soul_n advantage_n will_v joyful_o make_v use_n of_o this_o chap._n fourteen_o the_o
