sanctification_n therefore_o i_o separate_v from_o all_o and_o everye_o one_o of_o they_o in_o strength_n of_o persuasion_n in_o particular_a application_n and_o the_o fruit_n of_o faith_n and_o his_o word_n also_o be_v always_o but_o one_o but_o in_o they_o that_o set_n before_o their_o eye_n on_o the_o one_o side_n their_o own_o weakness_n and_o want_n and_o on_o the_o other_o side_n the_o good_a that_o god_n require_v of_o they_o they_o may_v not_o only_o depend_v whole_o of_o his_o mercy_n and_o no_o way_n swell_v with_o the_o confidence_n of_o any_o gift_n that_o they_o have_v for_o which_o they_o allege_v it_o for_o though_o we_o shall_v grant_v they_o that_o love_n and_o hatred_n shall_v in_o this_o place_n be_v understand_v of_o god_n love_n &_o hatred_n towards_o man_n yet_o this_o i_o think_v we_o may_v say_v of_o it_o namely_o that_o we_o must_v needs_o understand_v it_o either_o of_o man_n that_o be_v ignorant_a of_o god_n word_n and_o unbeliever_n or_o else_o of_o his_o love_n and_o hatred_n towards_o such_o as_o of_o who_o faith_n we_o doubt_v not_o for_o between_o these_o two_o there_o be_v no_o mean_a neither_o be_v there_o any_o other_o sort_n of_o people_n in_o the_o world_n to_o refer_v it_o to_o the_o incredulous_a &_o to_o understand_v it_o of_o they_o there_o be_v no_o reason_n because_o he_o that_o can_v lie_v have_v tell_v we_o he_o that_o believe_v not_o be_v conden_v already_o because_o he_o believe_v not_o in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o only_a son_n of_o god_n &_o since_o he_o have_v give_v the_o judgement_n we_o judge_v not_o according_a to_o ourselves_o but_o according_a to_o his_o truth_n that_o can_v err_v and_o beside_o he_o that_o beleve_v not_o the_o gospel_n as_o he_o know_v not_o god_n himself_o with_o effect_n and_o fruit_n so_o he_o know_v not_o neither_o for_o himself_o nor_o for_o other_o those_o who_o god_n love_v or_o hate_v or_o of_o what_o force_n his_o love_n and_o hatred_n be_v we_o must_v therefore_o understand_v of_o the_o faithful_a &_o believer_n who_o though_o they_o can_v judge_v of_o other_o man_n special_o by_o their_o outward_a estate_n of_o which_o it_o seem_v solomon_n speak_v here_o whether_o god_n love_v any_o man_n or_o hate_v he_o yet_o concern_v himself_o or_o for_o god_n love_n or_o hatred_n towards_o he_o he_o can_v either_o be_v ignorant_a or_o doubtful_a of_o it_o because_o he_o know_v and_o feel_v the_o love_n of_o god_n towards_o he_o as_o a_o adopt_a child_n and_o that_o by_o better_a proof_n and_o pledge_n then_o outward_a mercy_n as_o we_o may_v perceive_v not_o only_o by_o the_o 7._o verse_n of_o this_o chapter_n where_o he_o say_v go_v eat_v thy_o bread_n with_o joy_n etc._n etc._n for_o god_n now_o accept_v thy_o work_n but_o also_o by_o this_o of_o john_n in_o his_o first_o epistle_n four_o chapter_n herein_o be_v the_o love_n of_o god_n make_v manifest_a among_o we_o because_o god_n send_v that_o his_o only_o beget_v son_n into_o this_o world_n that_o we_o may_v live_v through_o he_o and_o sundry_a such_o other_o place_n and_o therefore_o this_o be_v a_o non_fw-la sequitur_fw-la as_o we_o say_v in_o the_o school_n or_o a_o evil_a favour_a argument_n by_o outward_a thing_n man_n can_v determine_v of_o god_n love_n or_o hatred_n and_o therefore_o we_o can_v conclude_v of_o it_o out_o of_o god_n word_n what_o and_o if_o a_o man_n shall_v reason_v thus_o in_o the_o same_o book_n solomon_n say_v we_o can_v by_o outward_a event_n see_v a_o sensible_a difference_n betwixt_o man_n soul_n and_o beast_n life_n because_o the_o end_n of_o either_o be_v alike_o therefore_o we_o can_v by_o no_o other_o mean_n discern_v the_o difference_n it_o be_v false_a and_o indeed_o will_v not_o hold_v or_o follow_v by_o all_o these_o thing_n than_o we_o may_v perceive_v that_o howesoever_o we_o understand_v this_o place_n of_o the_o love_n or_o hatred_n of_o god_n towards_o man_n that_o yet_o it_o will_v make_v nothing_o for_o the_o papist_n to_o establish_v their_o doctrine_n of_o doubt_v touch_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n and_o the_o free_a pardon_n and_o full_a forgiveness_n of_o our_o sin_n that_o we_o may_v take_v no_o advantage_n of_o this_o that_o papist_n affirm_v that_o such_o as_o offend_v against_o their_o conscience_n do_v well_o enough_o know_v that_o they_o be_v under_o god_n hatred_n and_o god_n be_v angry_a with_o they_o do_v by_o this_o doctrine_n across_o their_o own_o sense_n and_o interpretation_n and_o again_o it_o that_o be_v true_a in_o offend_v party_n why_o shall_v they_o enjoin_v such_o as_o be_v turn_v to_o god_n and_o do_v unfeigned_o repent_v they_o of_o their_o sin_n to_o doubt_v of_o the_o grace_n and_o love_n of_o god_n towards_o they_o but_o let_v we_o return_v and_o deliver_v the_o true_a and_o natural_a meaning_n and_o see_v whether_o that_o will_v help_v any_o whit_n at_o all_o i_o know_v that_o both_o jew_n and_o christian_a expositor_n also_o do_v give_v diverse_a sense_n of_o this_o one_o place_n but_o to_o i_o this_o follow_v seem_v most_o right_a in_o this_o chapter_n as_o i_o take_v it_o he_o deal_v with_o such_o a_o sort_n or_o kind_n of_o administration_n or_o order_n of_o thing_n in_o this_o world_n as_o be_v beyond_o man_n reach_n &_o he_o set_v it_o out_o by_o sundry_a particular_n the_o first_o whereof_o be_v contain_v in_o this_o first_o verse_n and_o some_o of_o the_o verse_n follow_v and_o indeed_o respect_v man_n person_n and_o the_o several_a event_n and_o success_n that_o follow_v they_o and_o yet_o in_o this_o first_o verse_n he_o do_v not_o only_o declare_v the_o judgement_n of_o flesh_n &_o blood_n concern_v the_o person_n themselves_o but_o also_o express_v what_o he_o himself_o conceive_v of_o it_o according_a to_o truth_n and_o godliness_n this_o be_v it_o then_o that_o he_o mean_v that_o have_v set_v his_o heart_n not_o only_o to_o search_v into_o these_o thing_n so_o far_o forth_o as_o he_o can_v by_o
bounty_n of_o god_n in_o his_o promise_n which_o god_n will_v have_v we_o as_o we_o may_v perceive_v by_o by_o his_o command_v of_o we_o to_o believe_v to_o give_v free_a and_o full_a consent_n unto_o as_o for_o the_o condition_n they_o speak_v of_o we_o tell_v they_o that_o be_v adjoin_v to_o the_o promise_n not_o as_o to_o make_v the_o promise_n more_o strong_a in_o themselves_o or_o as_o in_o respect_n of_o god_n for_o so_o they_o be_v always_o sure_a and_o certain_a but_o the_o better_a to_o seal_v up_o the_o faithful_a performance_n of_o they_o in_o our_o heart_n while_o we_o be_v enable_v by_o god_n in_o some_o measure_n to_o accomplish_v &_o perform_v the_o same_o we_o assure_v our_o own_o heart_n that_o since_o we_o can_v perfect_o fulfil_v they_o ourselves_o &_o yet_o be_v fulfil_v by_o another_o for_o we_o we_o shall_v in_o his_o absolute_a accomplishment_n thereof_o &_o righteousness_n have_v a_o plentiful_a supply_n for_o all_o our_o defect_n whatsoever_o we_o know_v further_o that_o if_o many_o a_o compassionate_a man_n in_o the_o world_n do_v not_o take_v all_o advantage_n of_o breach_n of_o covenant_n or_o condition_n that_o another_o have_v make_v with_o he_o god_n who_o be_v compassion_n itself_o will_v not_o deal_v so_o with_o his_o servant_n who_o he_o have_v single_v out_o unto_o himself_o and_o separate_v to_o eternal_a life_n notwithstanding_o their_o weakness_n and_o want_n and_o condition_n in_o this_o case_n god_n propound_v none_o unto_o we_o by_o the_o gospel_n but_o to_o repent_v and_o believe_v the_o gospel_n both_o which_o be_v wrought_v in_o we_o in_o some_o measure_n by_o his_o own_o hand_n and_o grace_n and_o therefore_o we_o comfort_v ourselves_o that_o be_v his_o own_o work_n he_o will_v not_o reject_v it_o but_o accept_v it_o rather_o notwithstanding_o our_o weakness_n and_o want_n by_o reason_n of_o the_o remainder_n of_o our_o corruption_n adjoin_v thereto_o as_o for_o the_o explanation_n or_o exposition_n follow_v it_o have_v receive_v a_o full_a answer_n before_o and_o therefore_o we_o let_v it_o pass_v and_o come_v to_o a_o second_o exception_n that_o they_o make_v against_o this_o truth_n thus_o we_o be_v not_o sure_o say_v they_o whether_o we_o perform_v these_o condition_n that_o be_v whether_o we_o sufficient_o repent_v we_o of_o our_o sin_n or_o do_v sufficient_o believe_v the_o promise_n of_o god_n and_o therefore_o that_o we_o be_v not_o assure_v concern_v god_n promise_n but_o this_o we_o answer_v be_v the_o same_o poison_n that_o have_v be_v propound_v in_o some_o of_o their_o argument_n before_o put_v down_o and_o answer_v whether_o we_o may_v remit_v the_o reader_n how_o be_v it_o in_o a_o word_n or_o two_o we_o will_v say_v somewhat_o and_o first_o we_o give_v they_o to_o understand_v that_o their_o consequent_a be_v good_a &_o and_z forcible_a if_o they_o have_v prove_v or_o can_v prove_v that_o the_o truth_n &_o certainty_n of_o god_n holy_a and_o heavenly_a promise_n do_v depend_v upon_o the_o sufficiency_n of_o our_o faith_n &_o repentance_n but_o that_o be_v not_o prove_v be_v of_o no_o importance_n nay_o we_o say_v further_o that_o it_o can_v be_v prove_v because_o god_n in_o his_o word_n have_v not_o prescribe_v a_o limit_a and_o determine_v measure_n of_o faith_n and_o repentance_n which_o whosoever_o have_v not_o attain_v unto_o he_o can_v be_v certify_v or_o assure_v of_o god_n grace_n and_o his_o own_o salvation_n but_o therein_o only_o require_v at_o our_o hand_n faith_n and_o repentance_n both_o which_o grace_n as_o all_o other_o fruit_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v in_o some_o more_o and_o in_o some_o less_o according_a to_o the_o measure_n thereof_o give_v unto_o man_n from_o god_n and_o this_o may_v appear_v because_o christ_n simple_o and_o plain_o say_v he_o that_o believe_v in_o i_o have_v everlasting_a life_n not_o express_v how_o much_o or_o how_o little_a faith_n be_v requisite_a to_o that_o work_n so_o it_o be_v sound_a and_o true_a and_o we_o be_v teach_v in_o the_o scripture_n to_o pray_v for_o augmentation_n and_o increase_n of_o faith_n and_o to_o use_v all_o good_a mean_n whereby_o we_o may_v be_v build_v up_o therein_o and_o so_o proceed_v from_o faith_n to_o faith_n etc._n etc._n so_o may_v we_o yea_o so_o ought_v we_o to_o pray_v for_o increase_v of_o repentance_n &_o other_o fruit_n &_o of_o grace_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o yet_o when_o we_o have_v attain_v through_o god_n goodness_n towards_o we_o a_o good_a measure_n yet_o we_o shall_v have_v our_o lack_n and_o what_o can_v be_v more_o plain_a then_o that_o christ_n say_v to_o the_o woman_n luke_n 7._o thy_n say_v have_v save_v thou_o although_o we_o doubt_v not_o the_o place_n and_o circumstance_n of_o it_o consider_v to_o affirm_v that_o she_o have_v not_o sufficient_a either_o faith_n or_o repentance_n and_o therefore_o we_o may_v safe_o conclude_v that_o though_o we_o believe_v weakelie_o yet_o so_o it_o be_v true_o and_o right_o all_o our_o sin_n be_v forgive_v we_o for_o jesus_n christ_n sake_n &_o we_o make_v partaker_n of_o all_o the_o fruit_n and_o merit_n of_o his_o death_n and_o passion_n beside_o what_o a_o absurdity_n will_v follow_v this_o conceit_n of_o sufficiency_n of_o faith_n and_o repentance_n for_o since_o no_o man_n live_v can_v either_o sufficient_o be_v sorrowful_a for_o his_o sin_n or_o make_v any_o answer_n or_o satisfaction_n unto_o god_n for_o they_o or_o sure_o determine_v concern_v the_o sufficiency_n of_o his_o faith_n and_o repentance_n because_o god_n have_v reveal_v no_o such_o thing_n in_o his_o word_n and_o to_o fetch_v it_o from_o his_o own_o head_n or_o heart_n will_v not_o be_v fit_a for_o that_o be_v deep_a and_o deceitful_a above_o all_o thing_n it_o will_v follow_v that_o no_o man_n shall_v hope_v for_o salvation_n but_o rather_o despair_v of_o it_o which_o beside_o that_o it_o be_v absurd_a be_v both_o ungodly_a and_o uncomfortable_a also_o but_o if_o they_o will_v yet_o further_o object_n and_o say_v that_o no_o man_n know_v whether_o he_o do_v true_o repent_v and_o believe_v or_o else_o whether_o he_o ascribe_v unto_o himself_o the_o thing_n he_o have_v not_o we_o answer_v that_o it_o be_v a_o untrue_a assertion_n to_o say_v that_o no_o man_n can_v tell_v whether_o he_o do_v true_o repent_v believe_v etc._n etc._n for_o though_o the_o scripture_n have_v not_o teach_v we_o to_o know_v whether_o our_o faith_n be_v sufficient_a or_o our_o repentance_n weighty_a enough_o yet_o have_v it_o give_v we_o certain_a infallible_a note_n by_o which_o we_o may_v discern_v and_o judge_v of_o the_o sincerity_n and_o truth_n both_o of_o our_o faith_n and_o repentance_n for_o as_o all_o the_o fruit_n of_o our_o faith_n general_o be_v sure_a seal_n and_o pledge_n of_o the_o truth_n that_o be_v in_o we_o and_o more_o particular_o our_o holy_a prayer_n to_o god_n according_a to_o that_o which_o be_v say_v rom._n 10._o how_o shall_v they_o call_v upon_o he_o in_o who_o they_o believe_v not_o so_o in_o the_o fruit_n and_o effect_n follow_v our_o repentance_n seal_v up_o also_o the_o sincerity_n and_o soundness_n thereof_o in_o our_o several_a soul_n now_o what_o these_o be_v we_o may_v see_v large_o recite_v 2._o cor._n 7._o as_o great_a care_n clear_v of_o ourselves_o indignation_n fear_n desire_v zeal_n revenge_n etc._n etc._n i_o believe_v that_o that_o jesus_n christ_n be_v that_o son_n of_o god_n do_v not_o the_o eunuch_n both_o know_v and_o feel_v faith_n the_o apostle_n tell_v us._n rom._n 10._o that_o with_o the_o heart_n we_o believe_v to_o justification_n and_o with_o the_o mouth_n make_v confession_n to_o salvation_n and_o 2._o cor._n 13._o why_o do_v the_o apostle_n command_v or_o exhort_v to_o try_v ourselves_o whether_o we_o be_v in_o the_o faith_n sure_o he_o will_v not_o have_v enjoin_v or_o provoke_v man_n to_o this_o duty_n unless_o they_o may_v through_o the_o power_n and_o grace_n of_o therefore_o or_o fruit_n of_o my_o faith_n will_v i_o gather_v this_o truth_n against_o thou_o to_o the_o stay_n &_o uphold_v of_o my_o own_o heart_n and_o first_o because_o the_o holy_a spirit_n of_o that_o be_v to_o say_v good_a work_n which_o can_v but_o assure_v i_o of_o my_o salvation_n and_o of_o god_n grace_n and_o confirm_v i_o in_o the_o certain_a hope_n of_o the_o one_o and_o the_o other_o and_o this_o be_v that_o which_o saint_n peter_n provoke_v unto_o when_o he_o say_v brethren_n g_o we_o diligence_n by_o good_a work_n to_o make_v your_o call_n and_o election_n sure_a for_o if_o you_o do_v these_o thing_n you_o shall_v never_o fall_v because_o by_o this_o mean_v a_o entry_n shall_v be_v minister_v unto_o you_o abundant_o into_o the_o everlasting_a kingdom_n of_o our_o any_o grace_n in_o himself_o from_o god_n but_o also_o to_o speak_v of_o they_o as_o time_n and_o occasion_n serve_v he_o find_v by_o experience_n that_o he_o be_v so_o far_o of_o to_o shut_v god_n out_o from_o order_v and_o dispose_n of_o all_o these_o man_n and_o their_o matter_n that_o he_o take_v it_o rather_o for_o fury_n and_o madness_n in_o man_n to_o think_v otherwise_o special_o see_v yea_o and_o that_o the_o fruit_n accompany_v they_o be_v never_o utter_o sunder_v from_o they_o but_o at_o some_o one_o time_n or_o another_o be_v to_o be_v find_v in_o their_o measure_n where_o the_o thing_n themselves_o be_v and_o that_o therefore_o they_o that_o have_v a_o good_a conscience_n have_v boldness_n towards_o god_n and_o be_v well_o certify_v of_o his_o grace_n and_o their_o own_o salvation_n thereby_o and_o that_o this_o in_o his_o meaning_n indeed_o it_o may_v appear_v by_o sundry_a word_n before_o go_v as_o when_o he_o say_v by_o this_o that_o be_v true_a and_o sincere_a love_n to_o our_o brethren_n we_o know_v that_o we_o be_v of_o the_o truth_n that_o be_v belong_v unto_o god_n who_o he_o signify_v also_o in_o the_o word_n follow_v when_o be_v say_v and_o shall_v before_o he_o assure_v our_o heart_n which_o assurance_n bring_v with_o it_o peace_n and_o tranquillity_n can_v but_o shut_v out_o and_o kill_v as_o it_o be_v all_o doubt_v and_o again_o in_o the_o word_n follow_v when_o he_o say_v hereby_o we_o know_v that_o he_o abide_v in_o we_o even_o by_o the_o spirit_n which_o he_o have_v give_v us._n and_o therefore_o we_o may_v see_v that_o this_o account_v simple_o sin_n or_o evil_n but_o there_o be_v some_o thing_n now_o count_v natural_a which_o have_v both_o come_v upon_o &_o prevail_v upon_o the_o purity_n of_o our_o nature_n as_o it_o be_v in_o creation_n as_o for_o example_n ignorance_n in_o steed_n of_o our_o knowledge_n doubt_v or_o distrustfulnes_n in_o stead_n of_o our_o hope_n etc._n etc._n and_o these_o can_v choose_v but_o be_v evil_a for_o even_o as_o our_o creation_n and_o all_o the_o thing_n we_o have_v therein_o come_v from_o god_n make_v we_o to_o be_v denominate_v good_a because_o nothing_o can_v come_v from_o he_o but_o that_o which_o be_v good_a so_o these_o proceed_n from_o a_o contrary_a fountain_n that_o be_v satan_n and_o his_o malice_n can_v choose_v but_o be_v of_o the_o same_o nature_n that_o he_o be_v of_o that_o be_v evil_a &_o sinful_a and_o therefore_o concern_v doubt_v say_v that_o it_o be_v natural_a indeed_o but_o not_o as_o from_o our_o first_o creation_n for_o than_o it_o shall_v doctrine_n of_o god_n grace_n and_o yet_o because_o some_o turn_n it_o into_o wantonness_n as_o in_o the_o apostle_n time_n and_o our_o day_n shall_v it_o not_o therefore_o be_v hear_v sound_n in_o the_o church_n of_o god_n what_o be_v more_o comfortable_a than_o the_o doctrine_n of_o forgiunesse_fw-fr of_o sin_n through_o christ_n obedience_n and_o yet_o because_o some_o then_o and_o now_o adays_o also_o hear_v this_o that_o where_o sin_n have_v abound_v there_o grace_n have_v abound_v much_o more_o do_v and_o do_v shameless_o and_o graceles_o utter_v these_o word_n let_v we_o corruption_n special_o as_o in_o regard_n of_o it_o own_o nature_n so_o this_o be_v certain_a also_o that_o in_o all_o godly_a wisdom_n and_o understanding_n rather_o the_o abuse_n of_o it_o shall_v be_v take_v away_o than_o the_o doctrine_n itself_o with_o hold_v or_o if_o that_o can_v be_v yet_o the_o same_o deliver_v with_o such_o holy_a caution_n as_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o ungodly_a that_o they_o be_v charge_v in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n but_o to_o lay_v unclean_a or_o violent_a hand_n upon_o the_o sacred_a truth_n of_o god_n not_o belong_v unto_o they_o and_o such_o comfort_n to_o the_o godly_a that_o it_o shall_v rather_o speak_v in_o a_o clear_a and_o loud_a voice_n then_o be_v mute_a and_o dumb_a as_o we_o say_v in_o the_o church_n and_o this_o beside_o that_o it_o be_v god_n own_o ordinance_n and_o therefore_o shall_v prevail_v it_o be_v more_o equal_a in_o all_o upright_a judgement_n and_o therefore_o also_o to_o be_v embrace_v to_o the_o minor_a affirm_v that_o the_o doctrine_n teach_v certainty_n of_o salvation_n etc._n etc._n make_v man_n secure_a and_o careless_a we_o answer_v that_o it_o be_v not_o so_o if_o they_o consider_v the_o they_o use_v the_o word_n of_o the_o plural_a number_n and_o such_o as_o do_v indifferent_o comprehend_v all_o the_o faithful_a yea_o by_o the_o manner_n of_o speech_n also_o which_o they_o use_v concern_v the_o matter_n itself_o namely_o speak_v indefinite_o of_o faith_n and_o in_o all_o of_o they_o they_o make_v this_o the_o foundation_n of_o our_o assurance_n and_o certainty_n that_o christ_n be_v our_o mediator_n that_o he_o die_v for_o we_o etc._n etc._n beside_o rom._n 4._o he_o speak_v concern_v abraham_n faith_n and_o show_v that_o it_o be_v write_v before_o for_o our_o sake_n and_o equal_o belong_v unto_o all_o the_o faithful_a so_o that_o we_o may_v see_v they_o speak_v of_o no_o proper_a matter_n concern_v themselves_o nor_o in_o these_o place_n allege_v and_o quote_v if_o any_o special_a revelation_n concern_v their_o own_o salvation_n but_o of_o a_o grace_n common_a to_o all_o the_o elect_a of_o god_n &_o there_o before_o this_o exception_n be_v but_o a_o mere_a cavil_n 2_o second_o this_o their_o doctrine_n of_o doubt_v stand_v up_o against_o the_o word_n and_o commandment_n of_o god_n call_v upon_o we_o yea_o injoin_v we_o for_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n name_n and_o our_o own_o good_a to_o repent_v and_o believe_v the_o gospel_n as_o mark_v 11._o verse_n 15._o repent_v and_o believe_v the_o gospel_n as_o also_o against_o those_o sweet_a exhortation_n that_o be_v give_v we_o in_o the_o same_o word_n to_o provoke_v to_o confidence_n and_o religious_a boldness_n as_o that_o of_o hebrew_n 4.16_o let_v we_o therefore_o go_v bold_o unto_o be_v embrace_v as_o in_o regard_n of_o our_o persuasion_n because_o that_o will_v breed_v neglect_n at_o the_o least_o if_o not_o contempt_n of_o he_o and_o his_o authority_n that_o command_v yea_o indeed_o also_o of_o the_o thing_n itself_o command_v nor_o to_o be_v sluggishlie_o or_o slouthful_o perform_v as_o in_o regard_n of_o our_o practice_n because_o as_o god_n in_o every_o thing_n love_v cheerfulness_n so_o likewise_o in_o the_o obedience_n of_o his_o law_n much_o less_o may_v it_o be_v defer_v and_o put_v of_o both_o because_o time_n be_v not_o our_o own_o &_o we_o have_v no_o charter_n or_o warrant_n of_o our_o life_n no_o not_o for_o one_o minute_n of_o a_o hour_n beside_o who_o know_v not_o that_o these_o thing_n be_v opposite_a one_o of_o they_o to_o another_o namely_o for_o god_n to_o command_v we_o and_o for_o we_o either_o to_o doubt_v of_o himself_o or_o the_o thing_n or_o thing_n that_o he_o prescribe_v for_o if_o he_o be_v god_n he_o must_v be_v believe_v as_o well_o in_o the_o thing_n he_o enjoin_v for_o his_o worship_n and_o our_o obedience_n as_o in_o the_o promise_n he_o propound_v for_o the_o express_v of_o the_o manifold_a riches_n of_o his_o grace_n &_o offer_v strong_a consolation_n to_o our_o distress_a consciecne_n otherwise_o if_o we_o doubt_v he_o or_o distrust_v he_o therein_o we_o rob_v he_o of_o his_o glory_n again_o we_o may_v reason_v for_o the_o better_a confirmation_n of_o this_o point_n from_o the_o true_a meaning_n of_o these_o word_n believe_v the_o gospel_n to_o believe_v the_o gospel_n i_o take_v to_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o to_o be_v right_o persuade_v of_o and_o particular_o to_o apply_v unto_o our_o own_o heart_n those_o promise_n which_o be_v make_v unto_o we_o in_o the_o gospel_n special_o those_o that_o concern_v the_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n here_o in_o this_o life_n and_o our_o everlasting_a salvation_n in_o the_o life_n to_o come_v but_o this_o be_v not_o to_o doubt_v but_o certain_o to_o be_v assure_v and_o persuade_v rather_o that_o the_o whole_a gospel_n be_v true_a and_o particular_o this_o part_n of_o it_o that_o christ_n indeed_o be_v the_o saviour_n of_o all_o they_o that_o believe_v in_o he_o for_o faith_n and_o repentance_n must_v be_v preach_v in_o his_o name_n and_o there_o be_v no_o other_o name_n give_v under_o heaven_n wherein_o man_n must_v be_v save_v but_o his_o and_o therefore_o they_o that_o hold_v or_o teach_v otherwise_o do_v not_o only_o not_o know_v what_o it_o be_v to_o believe_v but_o evacuat_a and_o destroy_v faith_n the_o gospel_n christ_n jesus_n and_o al._n sith_o therefore_o they_o that_o do_v true_o believe_v do_v not_o doubt_v concern_v that_o which_o they_o do_v believe_v i_o mean_v for_o the_o time_n manner_n and_o measure_n of_o their_o faith_n for_o i_o be_o not_o ignorant_a of_o this_o that_o that_o which_o be_v strong_a at_o one_o time_n as_o in_o regard_n of_o god_n grace_n and_o spirit_n support_v we_o may_v be_v infirm_a and_o weak_a at_o another_o as_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o remainder_n of_o our_o sin_n and_o the_o dullness_n and_o slowness_n of_o our_o heart_n to_o believe_v it_o will_v well_o yea_o and_o must_v of_o necessity_n follow_v that_o all_o they_o that_o do_v true_o believe_v the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n ought_v not_o at_o any_o hand_n to_o doubt_n or_o distrust_n concern_v god_n goodness_n the_o infinite_a merit_n of_o christ_n obedience_n the_o forgiveness_n of_o their_o sin_n or_o the_o save_n of_o their_o soul_n the_o reason_n be_v because_o doubt_v here_o &_o that_o faith_n that_o god_n have_v wrought_v in_o they_o can_v stand_v together_o and_o as_o for_o the_o exhortation_n use_v in_o the_o word_n we_o may_v say_v as_o much_o namely_o that_o god_n mean_v thereby_o to_o stir_v we_o calling_n approach_v most_o near_o unto_o god_n but_o no_o such_o thing_n have_v be_v or_o ever_o shall_v be_v find_v in_o the_o holy_a one_o of_o israel_n for_o as_o he_o be_v not_o man_n but_o god_n and_o therefore_o judge_v not_o according_a unto_o man_n or_o have_v respect_n of_o person_n so_o he_o can_v lie_v or_o dissemble_v but_o be_v altogether_o good_a and_o holy_a himself_o and_o deliver_v as_o we_o may_v the_o testimony_n and_o token_n of_o his_o love_n towards_o we_o mean_v as_o he_o speak_v so_o shall_v all_o flesh_n find_v it_o whether_o it_o be_v in_o the_o faithful_a promise_n concern_v peace_n and_o life_n or_o the_o execution_n of_o his_o judgement_n in_o this_o world_n or_o that_o which_o be_v to_o come_v three_o this_o doctrine_n of_o doubt_v fight_v against_o certainty_n &_o assurance_n of_o all_o such_o promise_n as_o god_n have_v gracious_o give_v we_o special_o those_o that_o he_o have_v make_v unto_o we_o for_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o our_o sin_n &_o our_o eternal_a salvation_n through_o christ_n of_o which_o sort_n be_v that_o of_o isay_n 1.17_o though_o your_o sin_n be_v as_o crimson_a they_o shall_v be_v make_v white_a as_o snow_n though_o just_a will_n have_v his_o justice_n satisfy_v either_o by_o they_o themselves_o that_o shall_v do_v it_o and_o happy_o be_v not_o able_a or_o else_o by_o some_o other_o that_o be_v fit_a for_o the_o purpose_n or_o work_v that_o god_n be_v exceed_o just_a no_o man_n will_v deny_v it_o his_o nature_n prove_v it_o unto_o we_o and_o his_o word_n propound_v the_o same_o he_o look_v also_o that_o his_o the_o only_a truth_n indeed_o nor_o contemn_v my_o mediator_n and_o his_o obedience_n which_o i_o know_v to_o be_v even_o as_o himself_o absolute_a and_o perfect_a and_o one_o of_o these_o two_o i_o must_v needs_o do_v if_o i_o shall_v yield_v to_o this_o suggestion_n of_o satan_n but_o it_o satan_n will_v proceed_v and_o say_v for_o such_o a_o wrangle_a and_o cruel_a adversary_n will_v hardly_o child_n to_o cast_v he_o away_o but_o as_o a_o most_o merciful_a god_n and_o love_a father_n he_o do_v it_o either_o to_o try_v we_o that_o so_o by_o that_o mean_v our_o faith_n patience_n constancy_n and_o other_o good_a fruit_n in_o it_o may_v be_v make_v know_v in_o the_o world_n as_o it_o be_v manifest_v in_o the_o history_n of_o job_n and_o other_o holy_a man_n example_n and_o appear_v by_o sundry_a place_n of_o scripture_n and_o namely_o jame_v 1._o where_o the_o spirit_n say_v brethren_n count_v it_o exceed_a joy_n when_o you_o fall_v into_o diverse_a temptation_n know_v that_o the_o try_v of_o your_o faith_n bring_v forth_o patience_n &c_n &c_n or_o else_o correct_v we_o to_o this_o end_n that_o we_o shall_v not_o perish_v with_o the_o wicked_a world_n but_o rather_o that_o by_o this_o mean_v we_o may_v learn_v more_o &_o more_o to_o hate_v sin_n see_v we_o be_v punish_v for_o it_o or_o to_o contemn_v the_o world_n whereunto_o otherwise_o happy_o we_o may_v be_v to_o fast_o glue_v or_o else_o that_o we_o shall_v the_o better_o learn_v to_o know_v ourselves_o we_o grow_v quick_o into_o forgetfulness_n and_o security_n and_o may_v so_o much_o the_o more_o earnest_o call_v scripture_n speak_v in_o diverse_a place_n as_o 1._o corinthian_n 11._o we_o be_v chastened_a of_o the_o lord_n that_o we_o shall_v not_o be_v condemn_v with_o the_o world_n and_o david_n in_o the_o psalm_n 119._o it_o be_v good_a for_o i_o o_o lord_n that_o i_o have_v be_v afflict_v for_o before_o i_o be_v afflict_v i_o go_v astraye_v but_o now_o i_o have_v learned_a to_o keep_v thy_o law_n
