you_o out_o of_o this_o land_n to_o the_o land_n which_o he_o swear_v to_o abraham_n to_o isaac_n and_o jacob._n but_o because_o the_o spy_n forsooth_o come_v and_o tell_v they_o oh_o there_o be_v wall_v city_n and_o giant_n and_o anakim_v to_o fight_v with_o and_o it_o be_v impossible_a for_o you_o to_o get_v possession_n of_o the_o land_n therefore_o they_o believe_v the_o spy_n but_o they_o promise_n so_o the_o doctrine_n i_o shall_v commend_v to_o you_o from_o this_o second_o branch_n of_o the_o text_n be_v this_o doct._n one_o main_a reason_n why_o man_n do_v undervalue_v the_o heavenly_a canaan_n and_o so_o come_v short_a of_o it_o be_v their_o unbelief_n look_v as_o it_o be_v with_o the_o child_n of_o israel_n here_o speak_v of_o in_o the_o text_n the_o sin_n that_o make_v they_o despise_v and_o undervalue_v the_o land_n of_o canaan_n and_o so_o be_v debar_v and_o shut_v out_o of_o the_o land_n of_o canaan_n be_v their_o unbelief_n as_o the_o apostle_n show_v express_o heb._n 3._o ult_n so_o we_o see_v they_o can_v not_o enter_v in_o because_o of_o unbelief_n so_o here_o one_o main_a reason_n why_o man_n undervalue_v the_o heavenly_a canaan_n and_o so_o come_v short_a or_o be_v deprive_v of_o the_o heavenly_a canaan_n it_o be_v their_o unbelief_n man_n believe_v lie_n but_o they_o will_v not_o believe_v the_o truth_n they_o believe_v the_o devil_n who_o be_v a_o liar_n and_o tell_v they_o they_o may_v come_v to_o heaven_n with_o a_o wet-finger_n and_o therefore_o they_o may_v live_v as_o they_o listen_v but_o they_o will_v not_o believe_v the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n that_o tell_v they_o straight_o be_v the_o gate_n and_o narrow_a be_v the_o way_n that_o lead_v to_o life_n and_o few_o there_o be_v that_o find_v it_o matth._n 7.14_o they_o believe_v the_o father_n of_o lie_n but_o they_o will_v not_o believe_v he_o that_o be_v the_o god_n of_o truth_n who_o say_v strive_v to_o enter_v in_o at_o the_o strait_a gate_n for_o many_o i_o say_v unto_o you_o shall_v seek_v to_o enter_v in_o but_o shall_v not_o be_v able_a luke_n 13.24_o they_o believe_v the_o report_n of_o satan_n but_o they_o will_v not_o believe_v the_o report_n of_o short_a of_o heaven_n and_o that_o it_o be_v possible_a for_o many_o to_o come_v very_o near_o to_o heaven_n and_o yet_o to_o come_v short_a of_o heaven_n but_o man_n will_v not_o believe_v these_o truth_n now_o their_o unbelief_n be_v the_o cause_n why_o they_o slight_a heaven_n and_o shall_v be_v deprive_v of_o heaven_n for_o the_o better_a explication_n of_o this_o doctrine_n there_o be_v two_o thing_n i_o shall_v open_v to_o you_o first_o what_o this_o unbelief_n be_v that_o make_v man_n so_o undervalue_v the_o heavenly_a canaan_n second_o why_o this_o unbelief_n be_v such_o a_o great_a and_o grievous_a sin_n so_o dangerous_a and_o destructive_a that_o it_o deprive_v man_n of_o that_o heavenly_a canaan_n first_o what_o this_o unbelief_n be_v that_o make_v man_n slight_v the_o heavenly_a canaan_n for_o answer_v to_o this_o you_o must_v know_v there_o be_v a_o twofold_a unbelief_n there_o be_v a_o negative_a and_o there_o be_v a_o positive_a unbelief_n first_o there_o be_v they_o know_v not_o they_o know_v not_o god_n rom._n 10.14_o how_o shall_v they_o believe_v in_o he_o of_o who_o they_o have_v not_o hear_v this_o be_v the_o sin_n of_o pagan_n this_o ignorance_n it_o excuse_v in_o part_n though_o not_o in_o whole_a their_o sin_n be_v not_o so_o great_a by_o far_o as_o the_o sin_n of_o those_o that_o do_v profess_v the_o gospel_n yet_o their_o negative_a unbelief_n be_v under_o unbelief_n for_o a_o while_n true_o it_o be_v possible_a for_o a_o elect_a child_n of_o god_n to_o be_v under_o a_o act_n of_o unbelief_n though_o he_o can_v be_v bring_v into_o a_o state_n of_o unbelief_n for_o you_o must_v distinguish_v between_o these_o two_o between_o a_o state_n of_o unbelief_n and_o a_o act_n of_o unbelief_n a_o child_n of_o god_n may_v be_v under_o a_o act_n of_o unbelief_n so_o you_o know_v be_v godly_a zachariah_n elizabeth_n husband_n he_o be_v under_o a_o act_n of_o unbelief_n and_o behold_v thou_o shall_v be_v dumb_a and_o not_o able_a to_o speak_v until_o the_o day_n that_o these_o thing_n shall_v be_v perform_v because_o thou_o believe_v not_o my_o word_n which_o shall_v be_v fulfil_v in_o their_o season_n luke_n 1.20_o and_o thomas_n and_o final_a unbelief_n that_o be_v the_o first_o thing_n for_o explication_n second_o by_o way_n of_o explication_n it_o may_v be_v demand_v why_o be_v this_o such_o a_o dangerous_a and_o destructive_a sin_n that_o it_o do_v debar_v man_n of_o this_o heavenly_a canaan_n i_o shall_v give_v you_o these_o three_o reason_n of_o it_o first_o because_o you_o must_v know_v it_o be_v a_o sin_n namely_o his_o glory_n which_o he_o have_v say_v he_o will_v not_o give_v to_o another_o isa_n 42.8_o i_o be_o the_o lord_n that_o be_v my_o name_n and_o my_o glory_n will_v i_o not_o give_v to_o another_o neither_o my_o praise_n to_o the_o grave_a image_n the_o glory_n of_o god_n it_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o the_o reputation_n that_o god_n have_v in_o the_o world_n take_v away_o god_n glory_n and_o the_o reputation_n that_o he_o have_v among_o the_o son_n of_o man_n than_o with_o reverence_n be_v it_o speak_v he_o be_v little_a worth_n in_o the_o eye_n of_o man_n now_o unbelief_n be_v that_o that_o rob_v god_n of_o his_o glory_n second_o unbelief_n be_v such_o a_o dangerous_a destructive_a sin_n because_o it_o be_v the_o first_o sin_n that_o ever_o be_v in_o the_o world_n as_o it_o be_v the_o mother_n of_o all_o other_o sin_n so_o it_o be_v the_o first_o sin_n whereby_o the_o devil_n get_v entrance_n into_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n i_o know_v there_o be_v a_o dispute_n among_o divine_n what_o be_v the_o first_o sin_n our_o first_o parent_n be_v guilty_a of_o whether_o pride_n or_o unbelief_n without_o all_o doubt_n it_o be_v unbelief_n for_o god_n tell_v our_o first_o parent_n express_o whenever_o they_o do_v eat_v of_o the_o tree_n of_o life_n they_o shall_v die_v the_o death_n as_o sure_a as_o they_o live_v they_o shall_v die_v but_o the_o devil_n he_o go_v and_o tell_v they_o you_o shall_v not_o die_v now_o mark_v they_o believe_v the_o devil_n more_o than_o they_o believe_v god_n unbelief_n therefore_o be_v the_o first_o sin_n that_o ever_o be_v commit_v in_o the_o world_n and_o as_o it_o be_v the_o first_o sin_n whereby_o the_o devil_n get_v entrance_n into_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n so_o may_v it_o be_v say_v to_o be_v the_o root_n and_o mother_n of_o all_o other_o sin_n therefore_o say_v the_o apostle_n take_v heed_n brethren_n lest_o there_o be_v in_o any_o of_o you_o a_o evil_a heart_n of_o unbelief_n in_o depart_v from_o the_o god_n and_o the_o soul_n be_v still_o make_v wide_a and_o wide_o and_o so_o the_o soul_n depart_v further_a and_o further_o and_o be_v still_o depart_v and_o depart_v from_o one_o sin_n to_o another_o till_o at_o last_o it_o come_v to_o hear_v that_o fatal_a and_o final_a sentence_n matth._n 25_o depart_v thou_o curse_a wretch_n into_o everlasting_a fire_n prepare_v for_o the_o devil_n and_o his_o in_o these_o day_n dare_v he_o be_v a_o idolater_n a_o liar_n a_o swearer_n certain_o he_o dare_v not_o but_o he_o do_v not_o believe_v the_o threaten_n of_o god_n if_o a_o tyrant_n shall_v threaten_v any_o of_o you_o with_o the_o rack_n or_o strappado_n which_o will_v break_v your_o bone_n oh_o what_o terror_n and_o tremble_a will_v take_v hold_n of_o you_o how_o will_v you_o fall_v down_o at_o his_o foot_n and_o seek_v his_o face_n and_o favour_n yet_o that_o tyrant_n can_v take_v away_o nothing_o but_o a_o poor_a miserable_a mortal_a life_n but_o the_o great_a god_n of_o heaven_n he_o threaten_v sinner_n with_o the_o punishment_n of_o loss_n the_o loss_n of_o his_o presence_n of_o his_o favour_n of_o fellowship_n with_o he_o in_o glory_n nay_o he_o threaten_v with_o the_o unbelief_n be_v the_o mother_n of_o all_o disobedience_n that_o be_v the_o second_o reason_n three_o unbelief_n be_v a_o sin_n thus_o dangerous_a and_o destructive_a to_o the_o soul_n because_o god_n have_v provide_v more_o antidote_n and_o remedy_n against_o this_o sin_n of_o unbelief_n than_o against_o any_o other_o sin_n to_o cure_v this_o sin_n of_o unbelief_n first_o god_n have_v give_v we_o his_o word_n which_o be_v a_o most_o faithful_a word_n heaven_n and_o earth_n shall_v pass_v away_o say_v our_o saviour_n but_o my_o word_n shall_v not_o pass_v away_o matth._n 24.35_o second_o god_n we_o experience_n former_a experience_n and_o latter_a experience_n the_o experience_n of_o all_o the_o saint_n that_o have_v go_v before_o we_o psalm_n 22.4_o our_o father_n trust_v in_o thou_o ignorance_n hypocrisy_n pride_n covetousness_n etc._n etc._n but_o our_o saviour_n marvel_v at_o their_o unbelief_n oh_o when_o man_n shall_v sin_v against_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n and_o the_o covenant_n of_o god_n and_o the_o oath_n of_o god_n and_o the_o seal_n of_o god_n heaven_n and_o earth_n may_v stand_v amaze_v at_o their_o incredible_a incredulity_n thus_o you_o see_v the_o point_n open_v for_o the_o use_n and_o application_n of_o the_o point_n first_o by_o way_n of_o examination_n i_o beseech_v you_o to_o bring_v your_o heart_n to_o the_o touchstone_n and_o see_v whether_o you_o be_v

exhortation_n let_v minister_n use_v their_o best_a art_n and_o argument_n to_o woo_v entreat_v invite_v and_o beseech_v you_o to_o accept_v of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n as_o he_o be_v tender_v to_o you_o in_o the_o gospel_n and_o yet_o alas_o we_o poor_a minister_n can_v get_v no_o audience_n i_o speak_v of_o the_o most_o of_o you_o not_o of_o all_o scarce_o one_o of_o ten_o scarce_o one_o 54.13_o and_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n be_v a_o lead_a spirit_n the_o spirit_n will_v lead_v you_o into_o all_o truth_n the_o spirit_n will_v not_o only_o take_v you_o by_o the_o hand_n but_o lead_v you_o in_o the_o way_n that_o you_o shall_v walk_v in_o as_o you_o lead_v your_o child_n when_o you_o teach_v they_o to_o go_v so_o the_o spirit_n will_v lead_v you_o into_o all_o truth_n that_o man_n
