can_v effectual_o call_v a_o man_n before_o any_o act_n of_o grace_n in_o man_n but_o only_o the_o general_n tender_v of_o the_o gospel_n these_o be_v the_o truth_n that_o be_v simple_o true_a in_o themselves_o before_o any_o thing_n be_v do_v upon_o man_n it_o may_v be_v true_a that_o god_n have_v elect_v i_o but_o it_o be_v not_o a_o scripture_n truth_n before_o something_o be_v do_v in_o i_o the_o scripture_n do_v not_o say_v simple_o in_o itself_o that_o i_o be_o elect_v before_o some_o grace_n be_v put_v forth_o in_o i_o if_o i_o have_v grace_n put_v forth_o already_o in_o i_o than_o i_o may_v say_v that_o god_n do_v special_o intend_v it_o to_o i_o and_o do_v elect_v i_o in_o christ_n before_o all_o world_n but_o now_o these_o truth_n can_v call_v a_o man_n because_o before_o effectual_a call_n nothing_o be_v do_v in_o a_o man_n therefore_o those_o truth_n that_o suppose_v any_o thing_n in_o a_o man_n can_v be_v call_v truth_n the_o first_o truth_n that_o a_o man_n be_v effectual_o call_v unto_o a_o man_n have_v no_o more_o to_o show_v for_o it_o than_o any_o man_n else_o in_o the_o world_n therefore_o it_o must_v be_v mere_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o gospel_n in_o eternal_a life_n in_o his_o son_n this_o i_o will_v not_o speak_v of_o because_o all_o both_o papist_n and_o protestant_n agree_v in_o this_o that_o faith_n be_v a_o assent_n of_o the_o mind_n this_o be_v a_o controversy_n on_o neither_o side_n therefore_o i_o will_v omit_v it_o but_o it_o be_v the_o second_o part_n or_o act_v of_o faith_n which_o be_v the_o believe_v that_o in_o the_o lord_n believe_v the_o power_n of_o god_n and_o yet_o not_o have_v a_o justify_v faith_n all_o that_o have_v miraculous_a faith_n do_v believe_v the_o power_n of_o god_n god_n but_o the_o apostle_n say_v 1_o cor._n 13.2_o if_o i_o have_v all_o faith_n that_o be_v all_o miraculous_a faith_n even_o to_o the_o remove_n of_o mountain_n without_o charity_n it_o be_v nothing_o second_o there_o be_v a_o unroot_v confidence_n of_o the_o will_n will_n which_o may_v be_v in_o a_o natural_a man_n as_o a_o natural_a man_n may_v believe_v that_o christ_n be_v the_o only_a hope_n of_o glory_n the_o only_a way_n do_v believe_v etc._n etc._n a_o natural_a man_n may_v not_o only_o believe_v christ_n but_o believe_v in_o christ_n in_o some_o sense_n true_o he_o can_v but_o in_o a_o unroot_v manner_n there_o be_v a_o presumptuous_a confidence_n in_o god_n and_o christ_n for_o salvation_n which_o the_o worker_n of_o iniquity_n may_v have_v they_o may_v not_o only_o believe_v the_o general_a truth_n of_o the_o gospel_n but_o have_v some_o kind_n of_o confidence_n in_o christ_n though_o not_o so_o good_a as_o the_o former_a for_o that_o reform_v a_o man_n and_o make_v he_o follow_v christ_n till_o persecution_n come_v and_o may_v be_v in_o persecution_n too_o till_o he_o be_v weary_a but_o this_o be_v not_o so_o good_a you_o shall_v have_v a_o drunkard_n a_o profane_a person_n he_o have_v bear_v he_o because_o he_o commit_v not_o himself_o to_o the_o water_n but_o the_o more_o and_o more_o he_o commit_v himself_o to_o the_o water_n the_o more_o he_o find_v the_o water_n bear_v he_o and_o now_o he_o can_v fling_v away_o his_o bladder_n and_o swim_v over_o the_o river_n he_o do_v believe_v before_o that_o the_o water_n will_v bear_v he_o but_o when_o he_o do_v commit_v himself_o to_o the_o water_n he_o have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o fear_n and_o can_v not_o swim_v to_o any_o purpose_n but_o when_o he_o have_v learn_v the_o art_n than_o he_o commit_v himself_o to_o the_o water_n and_o then_o he_o can_v spread_v his_o arm_n and_o leg_n and_o swim_v so_o when_o a_o man_n come_v first_o to_o believe_v in_o christ_n he_o think_v i_o shall_v be_v the_o happy_a man_n in_o the_o world_n i_o shall_v be_v in_o a_o better_a estate_n than_o king_n and_o prince_n if_o i_o can_v believe_v and_o withal_o it_o make_v he_o to_o believe_v in_o christ_n and_o to_o deny_v himself_o and_o cast_v himself_o upon_o christ_n pluck_v up_o both_o his_o foot_n and_o commit_v himself_o to_o the_o water_n and_o fling_v out_o himself_o upon_o christ_n sink_v or_o swim_v yet_o at_o the_o first_o this_o be_v very_o weak_a and_o sometime_o he_o do_v it_o and_o sometime_o he_o do_v it_o not_o and_o sometime_o he_o be_v feell_v for_o this_o sometime_o for_o that_o and_o sometime_o he_o do_v not_o pray_v well_o enough_o and_o be_v not_o humble_a enough_o this_o be_v nothing_o but_o trust_v to_o himself_o may_v be_v a_o pleasure_n come_v he_o can_v deny_v it_o he_o can_v commit_v himself_o to_o christ_n the_o weakness_n of_o this_o be_v the_o reason_n why_o he_o can_v apprehend_v the_o event_n for_o a_o strong_a confidence_n in_o christ_n carry_v all_o along_o with_o it_o it_o will_v reflect_v upon_o itself_o and_o gather_v all_o these_o thing_n and_o be_v assure_v he_o will_v not_o only_o have_v confidence_n in_o christ_n but_o also_o be_v confident_a for_o the_o have_v of_o those_o good_a thing_n he_o believe_v in_o he_o for_o heb._n 11.8_o by_o faith_n abraham_n be_v call_v to_o go_v out_o into_o a_o place_n which_o he_o shall_v afterward_o receive_v for_o a_o
