and_o the_o argument_n be_v strong_a if_o true_a but_o why_o not_o under_o his_o government_n because_o they_o find_v daily_o a_o spirit_n so_o cross_a to_o the_o will_n of_o christ_n and_o hence_o under_o continual_a fear_n of_o condemnation_n oh_o but_o consider_v have_v thou_o no_o love_n to_o the_o will_n of_o christ_n and_o law_n of_o god_n for_o if_o any_o believe_v this_o be_v find_v in_o he_o if_o so_o then_o under_o christ_n government_n rom._n 8._o 2._o the_o law_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o life_n have_v make_v i_o free_a what_o be_v that_o law_n see_v chap._n 7._o 23_o 24._o spirit_n of_o delight_n in_o the_o law_n in_o the_o inner_a man_n and_o mourn_v for_o contrary_a captivity_n know_v therefore_o though_o you_o can_v do_v all_o yet_o love_v the_o whole_a will_n of_o blessedness_n to_o be_v like_o they_o and_o daily_o mourn_v under_o your_o neglect_n that_o in_o every_o thing_n the_o gospel_n be_v not_o adorn_v by_o you_o &_o on_o the_o other_o side_n although_o you_o have_v many_o duty_n sabbath_n and_o good_a act_n yet_o if_o not_o love_n all_o be_v vile_a i_o fear_v it_o be_v not_o man_n joy_n sweetness_n delight_v to_o hear_v the_o least_o good_a word_n that_o fall_v from_o a_o good_a man_n lip_n but_o rather_o the_o truth_n and_o thing_n of_o god_n despise_v if_o so_o then_o look_v for_o
and_o he_o do_v give_v thou_o some_o victory_n belove_a a_o christian_a may_v decay_v in_o the_o power_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o christ_n which_o he_o have_v receive_v from_o the_o word_n and_o voice_n of_o god_n in_o the_o word_n and_o he_o may_v decay_v and_o grow_v to_o a_o very_a low_a estate_n yet_o he_o shall_v find_v this_o the_o word_n of_o the_o lord_n have_v come_v with_o power_n to_o he_o it_o will_v recover_v his_o soul_n again_o and_o so_o the_o efficacy_n of_o the_o word_n be_v eternal_a psalm_n 72._o it_o be_v say_v of_o christ_n that_o his_o people_n shall_v fear_v he_o so_o long_o as_o sun_n and_o moon_n shall_v endure_v that_o be_v continual_o all_o their_o life-time_n it_o may_v be_v say_v there_o be_v many_o that_o find_v decay_n of_o their_o service_n and_o obedience_n and_o lose_v their_o fear_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o their_o dread_n and_o their_o humble_a walk_v before_o he_o he_o shall_v come_v as_o the_o rain_n on_o the_o mow_v grass_n many_o time_n a_o christian_a have_v his_o flourish_a time_n as_o the_o grass_n but_o when_o the_o grass_n be_v mow_v it_o be_v as_o a_o dry_a chip_n so_o the_o soul_n it_o may_v grow_v dry_a as_o dry_a as_o a_o chip_n now_o where_o be_v your_o sap_n and_o savour_n but_o i_o tell_v you_o if_o you_o belong_v to_o the_o lord_n jesus_n the_o rain_n it_o will_v fall_v again_o the_o word_n of_o god_n set_v on_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n it_o shall_v fall_v upon_o you_o as_o the_o rain_n on_o the_o mow_v grass_n and_o you_o know_v that_o it_o recover_v little_a by_o little_a and_o put_v on_o a_o green_a coat_n again_o here_o be_v the_o eternal_a love_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n to_o his_o people_n and_o thus_o the_o eternal_a efficacy_n of_o the_o word_n do_v continue_v 3._o use_n 3_o be_v spirit_n the_o spirit_n of_o god_n when_o he_o come_v he_o convince_v the_o world_n of_o sin_n let_v ministe_n do_v so_o preach_v convince_a truth_n and_o gospel-truth_n fetch_v from_o heaven_n and_o bathe_v in_o tear_n oh_o brethren_n let_v the_o fire_n burn_v clear_a let_v there_o not_o be_v more_o smoke_n than_o fire_n it_o will_v never_o come_v with_o power_n then_o convince_a gospel-truth_n set_v on_o by_o the_o demonstration_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o this_o will_v set_v a_o christian_a at_o liberty_n there_o be_v never_o such_o a_o sermon_n that_o the_o faithful_a one_o of_o god_n preach_v to_o you_o if_o it_o come_v not_o with_o a_o power_n to_o loosen_v you_o and_o call_v you_o home_o it_o come_v with_o a_o power_n to_o blind_v you_o it_o be_v a_o axe_n at_o the_o root_n of_o the_o tree_n but_o i_o leave_v this_o what_o mean_n ought_v the_o people_n to_o use_v that_o the_o word_n of_o god_n may_v come_v with_o efficacy_n they_o that_o be_v in_o their_o unregenerate_a estate_n the_o lord_n only_o know_v how_o to_o work_v on_o their_o heart_n they_o must_v come_v to_o the_o outward_a mean_n i_o speak_v to_o the_o saint_n of_o god_n i_o leave_v other_o to_o the_o infinite_a mercy_n of_o the_o lord_n it_o be_v not_o in_o he_o that_o will_v or_o run_v but_o in_o the_o lord_n that_o show_v mercy_n in_o the_o use_n of_o mean_n 1._o mean_n do_v not_o only_o see_v thy_o infirmity_n and_o weakness_n but_o pray_v to_o god_n to_o give_v thou_o a_o heart_n bleed_v under_o the_o sense_n of_o thy_o many_o infirmity_n many_o time_n man_n slight_v they_o and_o be_v not_o sensible_a of_o they_o i_o do_v not_o say_v wickedness_n and_o wilfulness_n but_o thy_o infirmity_n and_o weakness_n get_v a_o heart_n mourn_v under_o they_o a_o christian_n be_v make_v up_o of_o infirmity_n and_o weakness_n a_o man_n will_v not_o think_v there_o be_v that_o in_o another_o which_o he_o know_v by_o himself_o oh_o brethren_n labour_n for_o a_o break_a heart_n in_o the_o sense_n of_o your_o many_o infirmity_n and_o weakness_n darkness_n and_o enmity_n vanity_n and_o unsavourinesse_n the_o lord_n will_v have_v his_o time_n to_o speak_v to_o such_o a_o soul._n break_v up_o the_o fallow_a ground_n of_o your_o heart_n lest_o my_o wrath_n break_v out_o with_o fire_n the_o lord_n have_v promise_v to_o dwell_v with_o the_o poor_a and_o contrite_a look_v as_o it_o be_v with_o our_o saviour_n christ_n they_o bring_v the_o sick_a and_o the_o lame_a one_o to_o he_o and_o virtue_n go_v out_o from_o christ_n to_o heal_v they_o all_o bring_v thy_o sick_a and_o blind_a heart_n to_o christ_n and_o virtue_n shall_v go_v forth_o from_o christ_n to_o heal_v it_o 2._o draw_v near_o to_o god_n in_o the_o word_n by_o look_v on_o it_o as_o god_n speak_v to_o thou_o we_o be_v far_o from_o god_n and_o therefore_o we_o can_v hear_v he_o draw_v near_o to_o he_o when_o you_o come_v to_o the_o external_a word_n when_o you_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n hear_v it_o as_o the_o voice_n of_o god_n you_o hear_v the_o word_n as_o the_o word_n of_o god_n 3._o which_o you_o feel_v in_o you_o i_o do_v not_o speak_v that_o the_o soul_n shall_v take_v every_o thing_n that_o minister_n speak_v as_o the_o word_n of_o god_n but_o that_o which_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n take_v it_o as_o god_n speak_v i_o be_o not_o able_a to_o express_v the_o infinite_a unknown_a sweetness_n and_o mercy_n and_o presence_n of_o god_n that_o you_o shall_v find_v thus_o come_v i_o know_v it_o be_v a_o common_a truth_n but_o i_o be_o not_o ashamed_a to_o tell_v you_o i_o have_v not_o for_o many_o a_o year_n understand_v this_o truth_n and_o i_o see_v but_o little_a of_o it_o yet_o you_o have_v hear_v of_o it_o but_o you_o do_v not_o understand_v what_o it_o be_v to_o hear_v god_n speak_v when_o god_n have_v a_o intent_n to_o harden_v a_o man_n heart_n and_o to_o damn_v he_o either_o he_o shall_v have_v a_o prejudice_n against_o the_o man_n or_o else_o if_o he_o have_v not_o a_o prejudice_n against_o the_o man_n there_o be_v a_o secret_a loathe_n of_o the_o truth_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o command_n of_o it_o and_o that_o be_v all_o and_o the_o lord_n he_o harden_v and_o blind_v and_o prepare_v for_o eternal_a ruin_n all_o the_o man_n in_o the_o world_n by_o this_o mean_n that_o live_v under_o the_o mean_n when_o the_o lord_n speak_v to_o samuel_n samuel_n hear_v a_o voice_n but_o he_o hear_v it_o not_o as_o speak_v by_o god_n but_o when_o he_o take_v elies_n counsel_n and_o see_v it_o be_v the_o lord_n that_o speak_v now_o he_o listen_v to_o the_o voice_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o now_o the_o lord_n open_v all_o his_o mind_n to_o he_o 3._o do_v not_o trust_v to_o the_o external_a word_n it_o be_v a_o heaven_n on_o earth_n to_o hear_v the_o word_n exalt_v a_o glorious_a thing_n to_o hear_v the_o word_n of_o god_n as_o god_n word_n but_o trust_v to_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n in_o it_o and_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n to_o set_v on_o that_o word_n when_o they_o bring_v the_o lame_a and_o blind_a and_o halt_v to_o christ_n they_o look_v for_o the_o word_n and_o the_o power_n of_o it_o speak_v the_o word_n lord_n and_o thy_o servant_n shall_v be_v whole_a so_o
