have_v upon_o a_o due_a and_o serious_a survey_n of_o the_o letter_n and_o grammar_n of_o the_o holy_a scripture_n sufficient_o find_v and_o clear_o observe_v that_o the_o scripture_n as_o thus_o strict_o consider_v in_o the_o order_n disposition_n and_o construction_n of_o its_o letter_n will_v never_o be_v serviceable_a to_o she_o in_o any_o one_o of_o these_o three_o respect_n but_o will_v on_o the_o contrary_a express_o oppose_v she_o as_o she_o be_v hereby_o express_o convince_v then_o that_o there_o can_v be_v no_o cause_n why_o she_o shall_v magnify_v the_o express_a word_n of_o it_o and_o much_o less_o any_o cause_n why_o she_o shall_v trust_v in_o it_o or_o appeal_v to_o it_o so_o lest_o that_o other_o shall_v be_v carry_v away_o with_o a_o rational_a opinion_n of_o it_o and_o shall_v for_o this_o cause_n be_v induce_v to_o urge_v and_o press_v several_a thing_n against_o she_o from_o it_o she_o see_v it_o but_o necessary_a that_o she_o shall_v come_v to_o a_o deliberate_a resolution_n with_o herself_o to_o weaken_v the_o credit_n of_o the_o scripture_n whole_o and_o not_o only_o to_o deny_v all_o authority_n and_o even_o all_o divinity_n itself_o to_o be_v in_o the_o word_n letter_n and_o grammar_n of_o the_o scripture_n strict_o consider_v by_o itself_o but_o to_o deny_v also_o that_o any_o sense_n be_v capable_a to_o be_v certain_o have_v from_o it_o or_o any_o truth_n that_o be_v infallible_a which_o how_o hold_v a_o thing_n soever_o it_o may_v seem_v to_o be_v yet_o she_o see_v it_o no_o way_n avoidable_o by_o she_o because_o she_o have_v no_o way_n beside_o this_o to_o secure_v herself_o against_o all_o that_o inconveniency_n that_o she_o know_v the_o scripture_n will_v and_o must_v otherwise_o cast_v upon_o she_o necessary_o by_o virtue_n of_o the_o expressness_n and_o authority_n of_o its_o letter_n have_v then_o take_v up_o this_o resolution_n in_o the_o first_o place_n consider_v nevertheless_o mature_o with_o herself_o that_o if_o she_o shall_v cast_v off_o all_o her_o relation_n to_o the_o scripture_n whole_o and_o entire_o she_o can_v not_o maintain_v the_o very_a authority_n of_o the_o church_n itself_o and_o much_o less_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o defend_v either_o the_o divinity_n or_o the_o infallibility_n of_o those_o thing_n that_o be_v seek_v by_o she_o she_o therefore_o come_v to_o a_o second_o resolution_n which_o she_o judge_v no_o less_o necessary_a and_o expedient_a for_o she_o than_o the_o former_a viz._n to_o maintain_v the_o divinity_n and_o set_v up_o the_o authority_n absolute_o of_o the_o scripture_n though_o not_o in_o the_o express_a letter_n of_o it_o nor_o in_o the_o sense_n proper_a to_o it_o yet_o as_o we_o have_v say_v already_o in_o another_o sense_n that_o she_o set_v up_o instead_o of_o it_o that_o be_v according_a to_o such_o a_o sense_n which_o she_o judge_v convenient_a that_o she_o herself_o shall_v as_o a_o church_n put_v upon_o it_o and_o put_v upon_o it_o in_o such_o manner_n also_o and_o with_o such_o a_o construction_n and_o exposition_n as_o may_v be_v most_o suitable_a to_o her_o own_o end_n and_o most_o answerable_a to_o her_o own_o particular_a interest_n which_o sense_n she_o therefore_o style_v by_o the_o specious_a name_n or_o appellation_n of_o the_o catholic_n sense_n or_o of_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o universal_a church_n in_o distinction_n at_o least_o from_o and_o for_o the_o better_a avoid_v of_o that_o sense_n which_o be_v true_o literal_a and_o be_v proper_o constructive_a and_o grammatical_a and_o as_o it_o be_v this_o sense_n alone_o therefore_o as_o catholic_n that_o she_o confine_v both_o the_o authority_n and_o divinity_n of_o the_o scripture_n to_o and_o that_o also_o entire_o so_o she_o do_v this_o in_o she_o own_o more_o than_o ordinary_a judgement_n and_o prudence_n in_o regard_n she_o be_v sure_a that_o this_o sense_n will_v never_o fail_v she_o but_o will_v always_o be_v ready_a to_o abett_v whatever_o shall_v upon_o any_o occasion_n be_v determine_v by_o she_o because_o this_o sense_n require_v no_o deep_a reason_n nor_o any_o firm_a bottom_n or_o ground_n at_o any_o time_n for_o it_o than_o what_o resolve_v itself_o at_o length_n into_o the_o mere_a arbitrary_a will_n and_o pleasure_n of_o herself_o and_o so_o she_o can_v never_o be_v accountable_a further_o for_o it_o than_o bare_o to_o declare_v it_o or_o affirm_v it_o to_o be_v the_o catholic_n sense_n because_o she_o say_v it_o be_v the_o sense_n of_o the_o universal_a church_n and_o be_v not_o this_o rare_a policy_n and_o therefore_o to_o justify_v this_o medley_n sense_n which_o if_o what_o she_o say_v be_v true_a be_v both_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n and_o be_v not_o and_o which_o must_v necessary_o be_v the_o sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n because_o the_o church_n will_v so_o have_v it_o and_o not_o because_o it_o be_v a_o sense_n real_o proper_o or_o radical_o inherent_a in_o it_o to_o justify_v also_o her_o rightful_a throw_v off_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o grammar_n itself_o and_o to_o justify_v she_o transfer_v the_o whole_a divinity_n of_o the_o scripture_n from_o the_o natural_a order_n and_o construction_n of_o its_o word_n to_o a_o sense_n altogether_o foreign_a to_o its_o letter_n and_o to_o the_o expressness_n of_o it_o i_o say_v to_o justify_v all_z this_o she_o plead_v she_o own_o authority_n not_o only_o as_o divine_a but_o as_o absolute_a and_o infallible_a and_o consequent_o as_o that_o which_o ought_v to_o be_v submit_v unto_o by_o every_o one_o and_o that_o ready_o as_o to_o the_o very_a ordinance_n and_o appointment_n of_o god_n himself_o which_o be_v the_o very_a question_n itself_o that_o be_v in_o dispute_n and_o that_o very_a thing_n therefore_o that_o be_v first_o of_o all_o necessary_a to_o be_v prove_v by_o she_o she_o be_v constrain_v by_o this_o mean_n whether_o she_o will_v or_o no_o to_o run_v round_o in_o a_o circle_n upon_o the_o conscience_n of_o all_o person_n as_o protestant_n by_o or_o from_o the_o scripture_n be_v yet_o the_o more_o considerable_a because_o whatever_o worship_n service_n or_o religion_n we_o as_o protestant_n do_v profess_v to_o give_v unto_o god_n we_o profess_v it_o only_o from_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o scripture_n themselves_o and_o from_o the_o authority_n of_o they_o as_o they_o be_v thus_o own_v and_o profess_v by_o the_o protestant_a church_n to_o be_v our_o supreme_a and_o consequent_o our_o immediate_a tie_n in_o all_o that_o we_o believe_v and_o in_o all_o that_o we_o act_n as_o protestant_n towards_o god_n which_o have_v not_o its_o termination_n in_o or_o its_o dependence_n so_o much_o upon_o man_n or_o upon_o the_o rule_v clergy_n or_o upon_o the_o church_n as_o upon_o the_o scripture_n or_o word_n of_o god_n itself_o we_o judge_v it_o lawful_a enough_o to_o forsake_v the_o church_n when_o we_o once_o judge_v the_o church_n in_o what_o it_o believe_v or_o in_o what_o it_o act_n or_o practise_v towards_o god_n to_o have_v forsake_v his_o word_n and_o our_o profession_n or_o religion_n be_v thus_o found_v i_o mean_v out_o of_o conscience_n pure_o to_o god_n word_n every_o man_n then_o proper_o as_o a_o protestant_n if_o he_o be_v sincere_a do_v as_o much_o believe_v that_o the_o worship_n whatever_o it_o be_v that_o he_o profess_v be_v as_o true_o agreeable_a to_o the_o mind_n and_o will_n of_o god_n as_o be_v the_o very_a scripture_n itself_o and_o consequent_o that_o he_o be_v as_o much_o to_o contend_v for_o the_o say_a worship_n as_o he_o be_v bind_v to_o contend_v for_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o scripture_n itself_o for_o these_o two_o be_v take_v by_o he_o but_o for_o one_o thing_n viz._n the_o truth_n and_o authority_n of_o the_o scripture_n and_o the_o truth_n and_o authority_n of_o what_o he_o profess_v consequent_o the_o same_o tie_n that_o bind_v he_o to_o the_o scripture_n must_v of_o necessity_n bound_v he_o to_o that_o religion_n whatever_o it_o be_v which_o he_o as_o a_o protestant_n profess_v unto_o god_n and_o consequent_o if_o there_o be_v no_o tie_n so_o firm_a or_o so_o strong_a upon_o the_o conscience_n as_o that_o of_o the_o divine_a and_o absolute_a authority_n of_o the_o scripture_n be_v there_o can_v be_v no_o tie_n strong_a than_o what_o protestant_n as_o such_o and_o as_o sincere_a must_v necessary_o have_v for_o the_o religion_n whatever_o it_o be_v that_o they_o do_v respective_o profess_v unto_o god_n the_o three_o effect_n and_o three_o this_o now_o be_v make_v clear_a and_o undoubted_a viz._n that_o the_o tie_n and_o obligation_n that_o every_o man_n have_v to_o the_o worship_n which_o he_o profess_v unto_o god_n proper_o as_o a_o protestant_n lie_v in_o and_o rise_v immediate_o from_o the_o scripture_n and_o it_o be_v likewise_o clear_v that_o the_o high_a tie_n which_o can_v possible_o be_v lay_v upon_o the_o conscience_n of_o any_o man_n be_v that_o proceed_n from_o the_o scripture_n as_o they_o be_v the_o only_a rule_n of_o god_n mind_n and_o will_n to_o we_o it_o must_v necessary_o follow_v that_o if_o the_o authority_n of_o man_n can_v neither_o remove_v the_o use_n of_o the_o scripture_n themselves_o nor_o remove_v the_o obligation_n which_o they_o have_v above_o all_o thing_n upon_o the_o conscience_n of_o man_n even_o from_o their_o very_a education_n as_o they_o be_v the_o only_a rule_n of_o god_n mind_n than_o no_o authority_n of_o man_n can_v ever_o possible_o remove_v the_o obedience_n which_o man_n will_v always_o conceive_v themselves_o oblige_v to_o give_v to_o the_o say_a word_n in_o whatever_o it_o be_v they_o apprehend_v it_o do_v clear_o command_v see_v this_o obedience_n be_v look_v upon_o to_o be_v the_o same_o and_o no_o other_o with_o a_o obedience_n give_v to_o god_n himself_o and_o if_o a_o obedience_n give_v unto_o god_n be_v in_o conscience_n also_o infinite_o preferable_a to_o any_o obedience_n to_o man_n then_o must_v a_o obligation_n to_o the_o immediate_a law_n and_o will_n of_o god_n be_v always_o preferable_a to_o and_o strong_a than_o any_o obligation_n whatever_o to_o the_o law_n or_o command_n of_o man_n which_o be_v a_o three_o unavoidable_a effect_n of_o it_o the_o four_o effect_n and_o four_o if_o the_o law_n of_o the_o church_n or_o of_o the_o rule_v clergy_n can_v in_o the_o the_o law_n of_o his_o scripture_n or_o word_n and_o consequent_o it_o can_v never_o be_v avoid_v by_o any_o protestant_a prince_n but_o his_o authority_n as_o relate_v pure_o to_o thing_n civil_a with_o the_o efficacy_n of_o it_o must_v stand_v upon_o one_o rule_n and_o his_o authority_n as_o relate_v to_o thing_n of_o divine_a worship_n with_o the_o efficacy_n of_o it_o must_v necessary_o and_o unavoidable_o stand_v upon_o another_o rule_n and_o therefore_o that_o his_o authority_n over_o his_o subject_n in_o the_o one_o and_o in_o the_o other_o of_o these_o must_v of_o necessity_n be_v distinguish_v which_o be_v the_o four_o thing_n that_o we_o say_v can_v in_o any_o protestant_a government_n possible_o be_v prevent_v that_o these_o four_o thing_n be_v the_o certain_a effect_n of_o that_o which_o be_v the_o main_a part_n or_o the_o chief_a privilege_n of_o any_o that_o come_v by_o the_o reformation_n itself_o before_o mention_v may_v be_v further_o and_o more_o full_o demonstrate_v thus_o for_o if_o no_o law_n can_v possible_o eradicate_v that_o notion_n that_o there_o be_v a_o god_n then_o no_o endeavour_n of_o man_n whatever_o can_v hinder_v his_o be_v worship_v by_o such_o at_o least_o as_o have_v a_o sense_n of_o his_o be_v and_o do_v very_o believe_v that_o he_o be_v wherefore_o if_o we_o be_v train_v up_o from_o our_o childhood_n and_o train_v up_o not_o only_o as_o man_n but_o as_o protestant_n firm_o to_o believe_v that_o god_n will_v accept_v of_o no_o other_o worship_n at_o all_o from_o we_o as_o christian_n but_o what_o be_v agreeable_a to_o his_o word_n and_o if_o it_o be_v a_o thing_n continual_o inculcate_v to_o we_o even_o from_o our_o very_a infancy_n that_o it_o be_v in_o a_o conformity_n to_o this_o word_n alone_o that_o all_o religion_n whatever_o do_v consist_v then_o it_o be_v not_o reason_n only_o but_o experience_v itself_o which_o atte_v it_o that_o a_o man_n may_v as_o soon_o quit_v his_o notion_n that_o there_o be_v a_o god_n or_o be_v afraid_a to_o own_v it_o and_o may_v assoon_o quit_v the_o notion_n that_o god_n be_v to_o be_v worship_v or_o be_v afraid_a to_o own_v it_o as_o he_o may_v quit_v or_o be_v afraid_a to_o own_o as_o he_o be_v a_o protestant_n this_o notion_n viz._n that_o god_n be_v so_o only_o to_o be_v worship_v and_o no_o otherwise_o than_o he_o have_v set_v down_o in_o his_o word_n and_o if_o this_o notion_n then_o about_o his_o word_n as_o the_o only_a rule_n of_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n be_v as_o firm_o plant_v in_o we_o by_o our_o education_n as_o any_o notion_n can_v be_v plant_v in_o we_o that_o belong_v to_o our_o nature_n as_o man_n it_o must_v needs_o follow_v that_o a_o government_n may_v as_o well_o and_o with_o as_o good_a success_n hope_v or_o propound_v to_o itself_o by_o a_o law_n to_o extinguish_v common_a notion_n as_o hope_v or_o propound_v to_o itself_o by_o a_o law_n to_o extinguish_v among_o any_o protestant_a nation_n the_o notion_n of_o the_o necessity_n of_o worship_v god_n according_a to_o his_o word_n and_o therefore_o if_o it_o be_v right_o consider_v it_o will_v likewise_o appear_v that_o it_o must_v be_v to_o he_o that_o be_v true_o educate_v as_o a_o protestant_n every_o way_n as_o grievous_a to_o be_v command_v by_o a_o law_n to_o forsake_v christianity_n itself_o as_o to_o be_v command_v by_o a_o law_n to_o forsake_v that_o worship_n which_o he_o as_o a_o protestant_n can_v but_o believe_v in_o his_o heart_n be_v alone_o agreeable_a to_o the_o mind_n and_o law_n of_o god_n which_o be_v that_o worship_n that_o be_v give_v to_o god_n direct_o conformable_a to_o his_o scripture_n or_o word_n and_o of_o the_o truth_n of_o this_o the_o martyr_n in_o queen_n mary_n time_n be_v a_o competent_a witness_n and_o consequent_o they_o that_o pretend_v to_o take_v another_o

prove_v her_o proper_a authority_n by_o the_o catholic_n sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n and_o to_o prove_v the_o catholic_n sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n by_o virtue_n of_o her_o proper_a authority_n and_o at_o length_n not_o only_o without_o all_o ground_n but_o without_o all_o shame_n or_o sense_n of_o justice_n to_o beg_v the_o whole_a argument_n itself_o in_o controversy_n between_o we_o than_o which_o we_o say_v there_o can_v be_v nothing_o whatever_o that_o be_v either_o more_o unreasonable_a or_o more_o impudent_a and_o base_a and_o have_v get_v her_o authority_n therefore_o in_o then_o as_o the_o sure_a proof_n that_o we_o can_v possible_o have_v of_o the_o divinity_n of_o all_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o say_a church_n do_v lie_v in_o the_o proof_n the_o divine_a authority_n of_o the_o say_a church_n and_o in_o the_o sureness_n of_o it_o so_o the_o sure_a proof_n of_o this_o do_v lie_v in_o the_o proof_n of_o the_o catholic_n sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n viz._n in_o the_o proof_n that_o this_o catholic_n sense_n be_v both_o divine_a and_o infallible_a and_o free_a from_o all_o manner_n of_o error_n imaginable_a for_o it_o be_v this_o sense_n alone_o that_o give_v be_v to_o the_o say_a authority_n in_o as_o much_o then_o as_o it_o be_v strong_o allege_v that_o the_o catholic_n sense_n can_v possible_o but_o be_v divine_a infallible_a and_o free_a from_o all_o manner_n of_o error_n the_o authority_n of_o the_o say_a church_n therefore_o must_v necessary_o be_v divine_a infallible_a and_o free_a from_o all_o manner_n of_o error_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v impossible_a but_o the_o doctrine_n which_o be_v teach_v by_o the_o say_a church_n must_v be_v such_o also_o that_o be_v they_o must_v be_v divine_a infallible_a and_o free_a from_o all_o error_n so_o then_o these_o three_o be_v and_o must_v be_v all_o of_o they_o divine_a alike_o viz_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n and_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o
