have_v little_a or_o no_o assurance_n touch_v the_o reality_n of_o their_o religion_n which_o some_o observe_v and_o not_o have_v the_o happiness_n to_o light_v upon_o the_o truth_n have_v quite_o abandon_v all_o piety_n whatsoever_o think_v there_o be_v no_o firm_a ground_n whereon_o to_o build_v the_o same_o to_o prevent_v which_o mischief_n in_o time_n to_o come_v by_o bring_v man_n to_o a_o certainty_n i_o mean_v such_o man_n as_o own_o the_o divine_a authority_n of_o the_o scripture_n and_o withal_o to_o satisfy_v the_o just_a &_o pious_a desire_n of_o many_o who_o will_v fain_o understand_v the_o truth_n of_o our_o religion_n to_o the_o end_n they_o may_v not_o only_o be_v built-up_a themselves_o but_o also_o instruct_v their_o child_n and_o family_n in_o the_o same_o i_o have_v here_o according_a to_o the_o understanding_n i_o have_v get_v by_o continual_a meditation_n on_o the_o word_n of_o god_n compile_v a_o scripture-catechism_n wherein_o i_o bring_v the_o reader_n to_o a_o sure_a and_o certain_a knowledge_n of_o the_o chief_a thing_n pertain_v both_o to_o belief_n and_o practice_n whilst_o i_o myself_o assert_v nothing_o as_o other_o have_v do_v before_o i_o but_o only_o introduce_v the_o scripture_n faithful_o utter_v its_o own_o assertion_n which_o all_o christian_n confess_v to_o be_v of_o undoubted_a truth_n take_v heed_n therefore_o whosoever_o thou_o be_v that_o light_a on_o this_o book_n and_o there_o read_v thing_n quite_o contrary_a to_o the_o doctrine_n that_o pass_v currant_n among_o the_o generality_n of_o christian_n for_o i_o confess_v most_o of_o the_o thing_n here_o display_v have_v such_o a_o tendency_n that_o thou_o fall_v not_o foul_a upon_o they_o for_o thou_o can_v not_o do_v so_o without_o fall_v foul_a upon_o the_o holy_a scripture_n itself_o inasmuch_o as_o all_o the_o answer_n throughout_o the_o whole_a catechism_n be_v faithful_o transcribe_v out_o of_o it_o and_o right_o apply_v to_o the_o mystical_a meaning_n of_o the_o scripture_n there_o be_v no_o certain_a rule_n to_o judge_v of_o such_o meaning_n as_o there_o be_v of_o the_o literal_a one_o nor_o be_v there_o any_o error_n how_o absurd_a and_o impious_a soever_o but_o may_v on_o such_o term_n be_v accord_v with_o the_o scripture_n all_o the_o abominable_a idolatry_n of_o the_o papist_n all_o the_o superstitious_a foppery_n of_o the_o turk_n all_o the_o licentious_a opinion_n and_o practice_n of_o the_o ranter_n may_v by_o this_o mean_n be_v not_o only_o palliate_v but_o defend_v by_o the_o word_n of_o god_n certain_o might_n we_o of_o our_o own_o head_n figurative_o interpret_v the_o scripture_n when_o the_o letter_n be_v neither_o repugnant_a to_o our_o sense_n nor_o to_o the_o scope_n of_o the_o respective_a text_n nor_o to_o a_o great_a number_n of_o plain_a text_n to_o the_o contrary_a for_o in_o such_o case_n we_o must_v of_o necessity_n admit_v figure_n in_o the_o sacred_a volume_n as_o well_o as_o we_o do_v in_o profane_a one_o otherwise_o both_o they_o and_o it_o will_v clash_v either_o with_o themselves_o or_o with_o our_o sense_n which_o the_o scripture_n itself_o intimate_v to_o be_v of_o the_o contrary_n deliver_v there_o unless_o seem_o in_o certain_a place_n which_o neither_o for_o number_n nor_o clearness_n be_v comparable_a unto_o those_o of_o the_o other_o side_n why_o now_o shall_v i_o depart_v from_o the_o letter_n of_o the_o scripture_n in_o these_o particular_n and_o bold_o affirm_v with_o the_o generality_n of_o christian_n or_o rather_o with_o the_o generality_n of_o such_o christian_n only_o as_o be_v conversant_a with_o the_o false_a philosophy_n that_o reign_v in_o the_o school_n have_v their_o understanding_n pervert_v with_o wrong_a notion_n that_o god_n
