diligence_n that_o be_v the_o great_a diligence_n to_o make_v our_o call_n and_o election_n sure_a he_o do_v not_o mean_a 1.10_o 2_o peter_n 1.10_o that_o this_o shall_v be_v the_o immediate_a matter_n of_o our_o care_n and_o diligence_n but_o have_v exhort_v they_o in_o the_o first_o verse_n to_o give_v all_o diligence_n to_o add_v one_o grace_n to_o another_o and_o one_o degree_n of_o grace_n to_o another_o that_o they_o may_v not_o be_v barren_a or_o unfruitful_a in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o jesus_n christ_n in_o this_o verse_n he_o enforce_v the_o same_o exhortation_n they_o upon_o election_n as_o conditional_a or_o suspend_v on_o something_o to_o be_v perform_v by_o we_o they_o reckon_v that_o it_o become_v absolute_a and_o so_o sure_a to_o we_o upon_o our_o diligence_n but_o as_o we_o be_v not_o choose_v if_o we_o be_v holy_a 1.4_o eph_n 1.4_o but_o that_o we_o may_v be_v holy_a so_o the_o word_n here_o use_v do_v not_o only_o signify_v make_v a_o thing_n firm_a 4._o heb._n 9.17_o mark_v 16.20_o heb._n 2.3_o 4._o but_o evident_a or_o give_v evidence_n of_o the_o truth_n of_o it_o and_o whereas_o they_o say_v our_o call_n be_v a_o thing_n so_o evident_a there_o need_v no_o such_o diligence_n for_o the_o make_n of_o that_o sure_a i_o answer_v if_o our_o call_v be_v nothing_o but_o make_v we_o christian_n by_o outward_a profession_n it_o may_v be_v easy_o know_v but_o this_o be_v not_o the_o call_v that_o will_v prove_v our_o election_n 20.16_o matth._n 20.16_o for_o there_o be_v but_o few_o choose_v of_o those_o that_o be_v thus_o call_v but_o there_o be_v another_o call_v speak_v of_o in_o scripture_n which_o be_v term_v effectual_a call_v because_o man_n harken_v to_o that_o call_v and_o come_v in_o at_o it_o and_o this_o be_v inseparable_a from_o predestination_n justification_n 8.20_o rom._n 8.20_o and_o glorification_n and_o it_o require_v much_o diligence_n to_o know_v this_o so_o if_o we_o will_v have_v full_a assurance_n of_o hope_n or_o a_o confidence_n of_o future_a glory_n it_o must_v be_v by_o diligence_n and_o follow_v those_o who_o through_o faith_n and_o patience_n have_v inherit_v the_o promise_n 12._o heb._n 6.11_o 12._o for_o those_o word_n in_o the_o close_a of_o the_o verse_n may_v either_o be_v refer_v to_o our_o show_v the_o same_o diligence_n or_o to_o the_o word_n the_o full_a assurance_n of_o hope_n we_o must_v persevere_v in_o our_o diligence_n if_o we_o will_v maintain_v the_o assurance_n of_o our_o hope_n we_o do_v not_o say_v as_o the_o papist_n at_o least_o in_o their_o sense_n that_o faith_n be_v necessary_a to_o the_o begin_n of_o our_o justification_n but_o work_v to_o the_o continuance_n of_o it_o for_o they_o suppose_v that_o they_o that_o be_v once_o justify_v may_v cease_v so_o to_o be_v and_o fall_v again_o under_o condemnation_n but_o we_o may_v just_o say_v that_o though_o the_o beginning_n of_o our_o assurance_n be_v from_o faith_n in_o the_o direct_a act_n of_o it_o yet_o the_o continuance_n of_o it_o must_v be_v from_o work_n for_o we_o
